Fantastic experience: Was visiting Darwin from Singapore for the weekend and dropped into a Saturday Open Mat with Prof Chris and academy members. The place is immaculate and mat space is sizeable. The people I met were very welcoming. Experience levels on the mat ranged from white through to black belt - both female and male - which meant a broad mix of rolls. Whether looking for a harder roll or a more relaxed round, theres someone to train with, so the academy caters to all. I felt a genuine sense of community from my time in the academy. Well worth dropping in if a BJJ practitioner and in Darwin, and a super facility and place to train for those living in Darwin permanently. Thanks for having me. Russell

From the moment I walked through the door, the team made me feel incredibly welcome. The atmosphere is fantastic, and the crew at De Been are top-notch. The quality of the mats was excellent, providing a safe and comfortable training environment. I can't wait to train with them again on my future visits to Darwin. Highly recommended!

Negative experience: We removed our 2 children from this BJJ business. Issues included significant concerns re:safety. The final straw came when an adult black belt coach & owner of this place subjected 1 of our kids to unconscionable behaviour. Reprehensible. Re: below Response From Owner :- Your response is predictable - no ownership of your behaviour. Your unconscionable behaviour towards our kid most definitely was not conduicive to a positive outcome. You should take a look at the attributes that differentiate a good coach from a bad coach.

Fantastic experience: In Darwin for a week and had to get a session in. Chris and his team at De Been are very welcoming. Everyone was friendly and the training was great. If I was to move back to Darwin I’d be back here in a heartbeat.

Fantastic experience: De Been JJ Darwin - large mat space and air conditioning for Darwin’s notoriously hot weather. DBJJ was accomodating and welcoming - a very relaxed culture and environment on entry quickly turned in to organised, intense and regimented drilling. Chris’s squad are a wide range of experience but all took to the mat with great familiarity with each drill - he has some killers on the mat! Having been out of Jits for 7 months because of Victorian lockdown - I was very privileged to be allowed to train today and was treated with respect, openness and kindness. I highly recommend De Been Darwin to anyone looking to train in the future. Oss

Fantastic experience: I started attending classes in 2016 at the age of 46. It was very daunting just walking into the facility for the first time but the instructors and other participants were very supportive and welcoming. The classes were well structured with a variety of skilled instructors. who broke down moves into clear steps, and gave us ample opportunity to practice with people at all skill levels. The instructors spent time with every participant and gave great feedback on how to make improvements. I wish I was still able to do these classes. If you are interested in giving Jiujitsu a go - or you a looking for somewhere new to train - get on down to De Been at Vanderlin Drive. They are a great crew.

Fantastic experience: I started attending classes a few weeks ago and I can’t say that I have had any issues at all. I came in with some experience in MMA but very little ground game. My first class I attended everyone was super welcoming and inviting. I didn’t feel intimidated and when it came to rolling I wasn’t scared to get right into it. I like how the classes are structured and I feel like I am learning constantly. Different classes are spread through the week so you’ll be sure to catch a variation of classes. They also spontaneously schedule additional classes and let people know through their Facebook page. Obviously as a beginner I can be at a really big disadvantage- but when I roll with any of the higher level belts they are really keen to teach me something new and give me opportunities to practice what I have learned in previous classes. I was so impressed on my first session that I signed up for an advanced membership straight away. I look forward to attending as many classes as I can!
