Fantastic experience: I love this gym. Great range of equipment that’s always in good condition, and the membership rates are very fair compared to other places in Newstead . Crowd is pretty friendly, and the manager (Hi, Em!) is so warm and welcoming. It’s the kind of place where you actually look forward to training. Highly recommend.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been going to First Light Active for quite a while now, and it’s been an amazing experience! Emily, the owner, is always welcoming and genuinely cares about the community. The membership is very affordable (especially for Newstead), and the place is always spotless. I’ve also had a few sessions with exercise physiologist Tiarna, who is very knowledgeable and confident in what she offers. A huge bonus is that, with the Wellness Membership, you get unlimited reformer classes! Highly recommend this place!!

Fantastic experience: Love this place!! If you are looking for a beautiful community and lovely staff, this is the place to go. Emily the manager makes it her mission to know all of the members and give every single person who walks through the door the time of day and provides any support they might need. It truly is such a positive atmosphere. You can tell when members come in to hang out at the gym and cafe because of the staff are so amazing!! Ps the cafe is also top notch, healthy food and so clean and fresh. HIGHLY RECOMMEND ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Negative experience: I’d been a member of this gym for over two years, not because it was incredible, but because I tolerated the constant issues with broken equipment and an air-conditioning system that seemed to be on an extended holiday. Eventually, I received an email from management letting me know that my membership had been terminated. I took that as a silver lining and wrote back to confirm my card wouldn’t be charged again. I even joined a new gym, one where the air actually moves. But apparently, First Light Active wasn’t quite ready to say goodbye. Despite terminating my membership, they still charged my credit card and helpfully informed me that in order to cancel the membership (you know, the one they already cancelled), I’d need to give 30 days’ notice. So just to recap: they cancelled my membership, but now I need to cancel it again. Makes perfect sense. I’d strongly recommend avoiding this place, unless, of course, you enjoy being charged for services you’re no longer using and playing a bureaucratic hamster wheel.

Fantastic experience: I've been a member of FLA for nearly a year, and regretted that I wasn't a member before that as I live in the neighborhood. First Light is such a great gym, full with great machines, tools, great pilates and yoga classes. They always have new things machines and tools now and always got the cleaners clean them every few nights. I always come around after 5/ afterhours and I get to do all of my exercises and I don't have to worry about other people using things. The sauna is amazing & one of my favorite thing from the gym. I love the classes, thank you Larissa for re-introducing me to reformer pilates, and they have perks for the members with their cafes. Shout out to Emily for running the community!

Fantastic experience: LOVE FLA!!!!! Started coming here around a month ago, and never regret a trip. Such a well-kitted out gym, with plenty of space, and excellent classes. Very reasonably priced for such great facilities and amenities (sauna is the bomb). The staff are always super friendly and make we feel welcome, and were really helpful when initially getting sorted with the app. LOVED that there were no silly sign-on fees or key fees. Choc nut protein smoothie at the attached café is also so yummy! Can't recommend FLA enough!!

Fantastic experience: This is a good gym, it's got all the different cardio machines and all the weight machines and all the other non-machine gym accoutrements. I'm a big fan of the casual day pass as I don't use the gym often enough to get a subscription. For $10 you get a casual day entry and can use the app to get into the gym 24hrs. No lock in contact or whatever. Gym staff are very friendly over the phone

Fantastic experience: Joined this gym at the start of this year and love it. Emily and her team are always super friendly and available if you have a question. FLA feels very welcoming, inclusive and the pricing is excellent IMO. I come most days and it is always very clean and organised. Ticks all the boxes for me.

Negative experience: Where do I start? One of the worst gyms I’ve ever been to. My partner and I wanted to go to a gym for one day, and these guys were advertising $10 day passes so we decided to go. The casual pass sign up process took so long, as we had to download an app and create an account, before purchasing the passes manually typing in card details. When we finally purchased our passes, the barcodes we were provided to scan in to the gym didn’t work after multiple times of trying. We had to flag down a gym member and explain our situation. The gym itself is full of a lot of old, out of date equipment that makes working out very difficult. Overall a terrible experience and would never recommend this gym.

Fantastic experience: Fantastic gym/facilities, fantastic equipment and really friendly people and staff. Very modern and at a good price. Love that the sauna is open 24/7 as well. Can see there are quite a lot of negative reviews all from years ago - ignore them. I’ve trained at heaps of gyms over the years and this is up there with the best of them. Come try it for yourself!

Fantastic experience: This gym is extremely underrated. I’ve been heading here through the class pass app since 2024 and I’m absolutely loving it. The staff are so friendly and professional and make you feel so welcome. All of the classes so far (Reformer, Mat Pilates and Sweat) have exceeded my expectations. I’d love it if they added “Open Gym” sessions on the Class Pass every now and again. The gym overall is very clean, inviting and would definitely recommend.

Fantastic experience: Underrated gym. Has everything I need, equipment is clean and well maintained, and it has a nice, laidback vibe. I do wish the music was a bit quieter. Everyone in there seemed to be listening to there own thing and I don't want to damage my ears just to hear my own music.

Since the change in ownership, there has been a few changes, most important cleanliness of the premises has been amazing, Emily & the crew are so friendly & helpful. Prices are affordable. Fantastic experience: One of my favourite “Everyday” gyms I’ve been to, it’s never too busy, the aircon is freezing most of the time which is great, the machines are new and in good condition, also the management is always so positive and the new cleaning team keep the place in perfect condition, much better than the last ones! Also, the sauna is sensational!

Fantastic experience: Highly recommend! I've been a member of First Light Active for 2 years now (joining when it was Fit X). The gym has always been fine/good enough, but over the last few months, under new management, the gym is drastically improving. Cleaner, better maintenance, new equipment etc. Emily, the new manager, is awesome! Super friendly, approachable and pro active, and always up for a laugh. She is turning the gym into a much better environment. The gym has changed from the "grunty grunty hear me groan, look at my manly muscles" gym to a much more suitable for all types of people, style of training and levels gym. If you wanna come and do a casual workout and not feel judged or pressured, the gym is perfect for that. If you wanna work up, make gains and achieve higher goals, the gym has awesome trainers that will help you achieve that. If you love a class environment where you don't need to think about your workout, the gym has that. If you want to get pushed harder (minus the ego), well the gym also has that. I personally do mobility training and calaesthetics, which is not your "standard" type of training, but the gym also caters for me. Along with all your other standard gym equipment that you would expect at most gyms (I can't comment too much on that as a barely use it for my style of training, but for what I need, it's more than good enough). All the members and the trainers at the gym are super friendly, and helpful....and at the same time, no one is "telling" you what you "should" be doing as they "know best". You won't be a stranger for long at First Light Active, it has a great family feel. But, if you want to get your head down, and just get on with your workout and then get out, you can also do that too. A pressure free gym, that prides itself on helping people develop, not just with strength and stamina, but also with health and wellbeing. Keep up the epic work Emily and Co.

Negative experience: Poorly maintained equipment. Cable machines including the lat pull down all have old, dysfunctional carabiners. The squat rack wobbles and there’s dog hair everywhere. One of the personal trainers engages his clients in dangerous (and quite frankly completely made up) exercises, often involving hyperextension and was seen forcibly pulling the arms of an elderly gentleman behind his back, which poses a risk of spinal injury. If you don’t want to become a statistic, avoid this gym.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been a member for almost 2 years and I can tell that the new management really makes the difference. The gym is cleaner and tidier and the personal very friendly. The overall vibe is great and I would recommend this gym to everyone.

Negative experience: Caught them taking fees from my card for 1 full year after I’d cancelled. Yep I should have noticed yet they had my cancel of membership letter. They repaid immediately but really it’s pretty poor when I’d made sure they had cancellation in writing

Fantastic experience: Grace at reception is such a lovely friendly face to walk into in the morning. She’s always so helpful with anything needed. The gym itself is always spotless clean and really good quality machines. I love coming here, been a year now and I still love it!

Negative experience: Was great but new owners have pretty much zero interest in gym. Not even staffed half the time Aircon either broken or not going. No water now for over a week. Machines equipment broken for months with no way to report faulty equipment.

Negative experience: Customer service is nonexistent. A lot of the equipment is not working or in serious need of replacement. The flooring in the utility room is falling apart and very dangerous.

Negative experience: Not sure how This place is still running !?. The attempts at apologies to people’s dissatisfaction is embarrassing, almost guarantee anything positive left on this page is by the written by the rude staff. Please don’t bother to reply to this either with a fake apology. Just trying to save some folks some money.

Fantastic experience: Unbelievable gym. Great amount of equipment and benches and bars and squat racks. Was a perfect gym for my ACL rehab. All the staff are very friendly and it’s open 24 hours. Never busy to the point I couldn’t do exactly what I wanted. Only thing missing is proper spin bikes. Cheers guys.

Fantastic experience: Great gym. Lots of squat racks and benches so I never have to wait. All equipment is in good working condition. You do need to give 3 months notice to cancel, and key card costs $50. Regardless, it's still the best value gym in Newstead.

Negative experience: Scam gym. Everything is either broken or not as promised. Doesn't even have skipping ropes (all broken and removed) and the treadmills all have "do not remote sticker - this item is broken" stickers on them like when they write-off gear in insurance claims. The whole things feels dodgy and as a 20-something girl I don't feel safe here. Looks like all the 5-star reviews are paid for sadly.

Fantastic experience: So impressed with the quality and service at this gym! The trainers, especially Rob and Tyrell will take the initiative to come up and correct your form/posture during your workouts and it’s so refreshing to enter a gym that genuinely cares about your progress. If you’re in the area, DEFINITELY join up!

Fantastic experience: Everything you need in a gym! I have been to many gyms over the years and this one is by far the best! Laid back and everything you need in a gym. There is lots of space and you are never waiting for equipment - the space never feels cramped like many other gyms. Very clean, tidy and organised! Staff all seem lovely and welcoming. Would definitely recommend this gym if you are moving to the area - it is the best around!

Negative experience: Poor customer service and communication skills by manager Rob. Ridiculous cancellation fees which were not clearly explained upon sign up - especially in the context of COVID-19. When asking for further consideration and discussion, manager was very unprofessional. Do not recommend this gym to anyone.

Negative experience: The gym and staff are good. Nice and clean spot with good equipment. However the business is a bit of a scam, on sign up they do not tell you about the 3 month notice period you have to give if you are looking to leave and just for a key card to enter is $50. I get every gym has a notice period for leaving which you just have to accept but 3 months is just insane. Also reading back through the email they sent me for cancelation, you have to be at the gym for 2 months before being able to give the 3 months notice. So if you start you are committed for at least 5 months which if the company needs to do this to make money and keep people kinda says a lot.

Fantastic experience: Just finished a session there at 11pm on a friday, no one but me, the best! I love the 24 hour access and how close it is to my place. Awesome gym, can not recommend it enough!

Fantastic experience: Amazing and budget-friendly, all the machines are clean and orderly and the facilities are modern and well-maintained. Not super crowded and had no issue getting my workout done without waiting for a machine, even at 5pm!

Fantastic experience: Great, affordable gym right in the heart of Newstead! The staff are always so lovely and Rob is always happy to help whenever I am looking for guidance in the gym. Everything you need from general weights through to cross training machines means I can do anything from power lifting to crossfit style workouts.

Negative experience: Not happy email gym asked about special they had going as I'm very busy only to be told twice to come in and talk about it I don't want to come in and talk about it just wanted a quick email about it

Negative experience: Absolutely abysmal service! Avoid! I have bought a Groupon to try the hot yoga classes with the intention of becoming a member. Had the hardest time to try and figure out when the hot yoga is on using their website (they mention few types of yoga but no mention if it’s heated). Contacted them via Facebook saying “I’m confused, can you please help” they said the time table is on the website (not helpful). Called the number, spoke to Rob to confirm that I can come to the yin yoga at 6:30 with the Groupon and if it is heated - he confirmed both. Turned up only to have a staff member tell me that Groupon customers are only welcome during staffed hours (YES! A staff member telling me it’s not staffed hours!!!)- he called Rob when I said that I’ve confirmed I can come and said Rob has apparently told me that I can only come during staffed hours. If that was the case, why would I waste my time coming over??? Worst customer service ever!! Avoid at all costs!!

Negative experience: Coach and equipment are ok. However not happy with hidden price and cancellation. I was part of the classes and after sign up, the coach told me i had to pay more to be part of his classes. Which has not been mention when i sign up !. Some of the member of the classes got deal but not all of us. Then they find excuses to dont do the deal to other. They change their timetable for classes so i cant make any of it now . i had to cancel my membership which is 3 months of cancellation. im paying now for something that i cant make it because they decide to change their timetable.

Negative experience: UPDATE: 6 hours after I posted this review they made a fake account with my name and gave themselves a 5 star review. That is some pathetic behaviour. Clearly these guys have some misleading sales promises sneaky contract terms. Plenty of decent gyms in the area that are not run by sociopaths.

Fantastic experience: Awesome gym, it's like a hidden gem in a busy trendy area! Never too crowded, great equipment, good atmosphere, convenient location, not filled with roided up angry people, and great pricings for memberships. They also have the ONLY BCAA dispenser machine in Australia! Well done Rob and they boys :-)

Fantastic experience: I've been going to fitx now for about 2 months. There is heaps of equipment and free weights so I very rarely have to wait for anything which is great, the gym is always so clean and the staff are friendly. The trainers are great, I am seeing Chris and his has really got me track and taught me some new lifts which is great. Overall I can't recommend this gym more, thanks for being awesome!! :D

Fantastic experience: Great gym and location. Lots of space with dynastic equipment which is great for beginners and advanced athletes. The classes are a great atmosphere and the trainers assist with all the exercises and moments to ensure correct technique so no injuries occur. 10/10!

Fantastic experience: I have been with FitX Newstead since the start of 2018 - I can easily say that it is the best gym that I’ve ever been a member of. The equipment on sight is all you need and there is never a wait time. Even during the busy periods. The crew past and present have always been great. 100% recommend this gym to anyone in the local area.

Fantastic experience: Luke does a great job in running the daily functional classes. Luke is always patient and very accommodating especially when the participants are new or have injuries and need to find alternatives for a different exercise. Fantastic experience: I joined the week they opened. Great Gym I've never had an issue. I politely asked for extra equipment and bars and they ordered it no questions asked. Good facilities water, bathrooms and showers. And great aircon given the massive size of the gym. Always nice to walk into on a summers day. Friendly staff who are happy to help or offer advice. Can't fault the staff or the gym itself.

Fantastic experience: Awesome gym! Been coming here since it opened and wouldn't go anywhere else in Newstead. High quality equipment and very capable PT's with a wealth of knowledge and training under their belts. Oh and the price is pretty sweet too!

Fantastic experience: Joined a month ago and have zero regrets. Equipment is clean and new. Plenty of different pieces so hardly have to wait. Staff are really friendly and the gym has an awesome douchebag-free vibe. Nice and close to gasworks parking, shops and food too!

Fantastic experience: Awesome gym, always updating the facilities. There is definitely a water bubbler (those other reviews are old) and even a water bottle filler with the option of cold or tap water. They have all your standard machines, plenty of squat racks as well as a deadlifting platform. Apparently a second deadlifting platform is coming soon too.
