Negative experience: STOLEN LV BAG from the changing room - 04.02.25. I have been using this gym for almost 2 years. This routine is a part of my daily life, the place was an amazing escape for me. The incident that happened to me and lack of action taken has really put me at a crossroad. It is a trauma that I am having to deal with daily because I love this place and I don't want to NOT use it. However, till today, there are no warning signs for other members' awareness (despite request), are they waiting for an even bigger incident? Whilst I continue to use this facility, I want people to be aware that no matter how comfortable/safe you may feel - look after your belongings - use a lock! The thief that stole my purse continues to use this space with us today, she could be working out right next to you!

Fantastic experience: I have been a member of Function Well for 5 or so months and by far the best gym i have ever been to. Awesome facilities through out the gym, super encouraging & friendly staff throughout the whole gym, their community approach & their teams dedication to this approach is what sets them worlds apart from other gyms.

Positive experience: Update: sauna wasn’t working again. Why is it so hard to send a notification in the app that something is not available, So people can plan their visit? Function Well is a decent gym with some good facilities, but for the price, it’s the small things that add up and spoil the experience. If you’re starting out, I wouldn’t recommend the Reform Pilates classes here. The instructors don’t focus much on technique, rarely correcting form unless something is obviously wrong. They don’t give much individual guidance, so if you’re new, you’re left guessing by watching more experienced participants. The reformer machines are also placed too close together, which means you often have to sync your movements with neighbors to avoid kicking each other. The cold plunge is hit-or-miss, sometimes out of order or not at the right temperature. There’s no notice when it’s down, so I’ve been caught off guard multiple times when I could’ve planned my visit differently. Other small but significant details add up too. For example, one of the hairdryers has been broken for over a month, and they’re waiting on a warranty replacement rather than simply buying a new one, leading to long waits during peak hours. There’s minimal effort put into the amenities: they only offer a basic shower gel (no shampoo, conditioner, or towels included), which doesn’t match the quality advertised in their promotional photos (no Aesop products). Lastly, during busy times, the changing room gets too cramped, with not enough space for everyone to store their belongings comfortably. For what they charge, you’d expect these issues to be managed better. It’s a good gym, but the lack of attention to these details keeps it from being a great one.

Positive experience: The best gym I’ve ever been to! Honestly, the community here is phenomenal—I’ve met and made so many great friends and memories. The best membership to get is the Yin pass, which gives you unlimited yoga classes with the best teachers in Brisbane, plus access to the restoration room with amazing recovery practices like ice and magnesium baths, infrared saunas, and massage chairs. The gym itself is super clean with updated equipment, and the trainers and receptionists always greet you with a smile and a hello. The only downside is the parking situation, which could be better given the cost, but at least the coded gate ensures that only members have access.

Fantastic experience: I have been with Function Well for a couple of months. Life changing decision. The facilities and the equipment are the best I have ever used by far. I have been doing Strength classes with Jack. He is an exceptional trainer. So knowledgeable and goes above and beyond ensuring everyone understands good technique and completing movements safely, while maximising your potential. Great bloke too. Also Jessie who runs the MetCon classes. Same again, couldn’t speak more highly of his personable approach to run these classes. Great lad and love his training style to get the best out of you. This place is more than a Gym - ITS A LIFESTYLE!! Best in the business, you won’t be disappointed : )

Fantastic experience: I joined the gym 2 months ago and from my first visit to my ongoing membership, the friendly and supportive staff and coaches at Function Well truly set this gym apart from its competitors. It's not just a place to work out; it's about community building, and the members really live up to that ideal. The facilities are top-notch, offering a wide range of equipment and spaces that cater to all fitness levels. The only downside is not being able to enter the gym via fire door for a shortcut Loving my experience and highly recommend the gym for those who want to invest in their health.

Fantastic experience: I have only been a member of this gym for two weeks now but WOW what a place! I love the wellness approach with the recovery area and all of the classes that really set this place apart from all the other gyms I’ve been a member of. In all the classes I’ve attended I felt like I’ve pushed myself thanks to the awesome trainers! This is an absolute top notch place!

Negative experience: Over priced. Over rated. Change room isn't big enough at all and also the suana/ pools are all open mixed rather then having them separate for women's only area and other for men.. so it's constantly over crowded like a sardine in a can. They need women's separate pools and sauna in change room. For the luxury prices there does need to be more option's rather it's being a community pool vibe at you'r local council. For the top cash they want here atleast have separate spa and sauna for each genders change room.

Fantastic experience: I joined Function Well in January and am absolutely loving it. It is an investment in my health and wellbeing and worth every cent. I am in my 50s and suffer joint pain and inflammation due to autoimmune issues. I started with StretchFit and then progressed to yoga and reformer pilates. Usually by now I would have an injury and cancel my membership. The instructors are impressive and the inspiring surrounds and views of the sea glitter on the Brisbane River even more so. Getting up in the dark has never been so easy as I know the 'me time' is worth it. The absolute best part is the restoration zone (infrared sauna, magnesium pool, ice bath etc) that I am sure is the reason I am injury free and feeling a million percent better. Feeling stronger and lighter than I have in years.

Negative experience: This review is strictly directed at the infrared saunas. Those things stink... Like really bad. Truely revolting. The rest of the plunges and stream rooms are quite nice, but the infrared chambers truely don't hold no secret about what has happened in there. Each one individually held a different henious flavour profile but they group together like the power rangers to form potentially one of the most dreadful smells I have smelt in my life time. After some time spent still in there the smell fades away until you mistakingly move you head, to which the smell invades your nose similar to the trojans at the gates of Greece. Try it yourself

The CrossFit coaching team is exceptional, and it's a place where you can challenge yourself, grow, and be part of a supportive community. I've met like-minded individuals who share a passion for fitness, making it an inspiring and motivating environment. I highly recommend it to anyone seeking an outstanding fitness experience.

Negative experience: Please, stop harassing with ads. It's been a year and a half since I walked in and out the facility. Although I unsubscribed and locked the harassing staff calling me and texting me 2-3 times at week to know wether or not I wanted to join the membership, I still receive your emails with ads. Yes, I unsubscribed and already done long time ago.

Fantastic experience: Just completed an amazing Reformer Pilates class with Dana… especially love the way she includes stretching and mindful intention setting to close the session. Leaving feeling grateful

Negative experience: Overpriced for what it is.. very minimal/ old machines. I had a run in with one of the “trainers” there who was slamming weights onto the machine I was using while I was mid set and eventually I gave him an annoyed look as a sign to cut it out. He then tried to pull a power move on me and told me to re-re rack my weights on the lower bar - might I mention there are no signs of this anywhere in the gym and not a single person does that. After leaving the review I had a staff member call who was very accommodating with canceling and tried to address the issue with this staff member which is very appreciated. Hopefully that staff member can get some feedback on how to improve their behavior in the gym.

Negative experience: I signed up to this gym after hearing such great things and how close to home it was. However 1.5weeks in my 24/7 access wasn’t working and none of my calls were answered, I was told it would be fixed on numerous occasions and 2 weeks on still nothing. 4 week in I was being chased by debt collection company with no comment from Function Well regarding any attempt to resolve this matter.

Fantastic experience: This gem of a place is so fabulous I don't want to tell people so it becomes really popular but cannot help talking about how good it is as I am noticeably happier (and browner) since joining. I got the add on spray tan price per week. 25 dollars is a steal for unlimited tans 24/7 access. It has the best colours you can get in two hour tans and with unlimited tans you can get an extra cheeky coat on your legs etc. You can go late at night when an event pops up or if you just need a bit of a pep up and not have to walk around in shame brown after lol. The gym facilities are exceptional. It feels amazing driving into such a nice building. It is also super safe as I am a female who goes quite late. They have literally thought of everything. I got the yin and yang and you are crazy if you don't get the restore facilities - luxury worth every penny. Superior to any bathhouse, cleaner, and well set up with a private feel. It also has way more - the massage chairs are so good! I didn't even know such good quality ones existed! Even after a few days the difference in my well-being has been noticed by everyone. It is the only gym which has me actually motivated to attend and alone! I go because I want all the relaxation services but end up actually working out. I cannot wait to explore more. All the other people seem nice and the staff are so lovely. Best life choice in 2023 and that is a big call!

Fantastic experience: One if not the best gyms I've been to. The facilities are amazing and the classes are incredible. Highly recommend their body conditioning class. If I lived closer I would have stayed. Also, best of all they don't have dodgy sales people and tactics like other gyms.

Fantastic experience: With the first few months, I was spending about $530 a fortnight for a pt and membership that included everything besides crossfit, It was totally worth it! Spending an average of 3 to 4 hours, 4 to 5 days a week. Doing two to three classes in a row, followed by the ice bath and sauna. Felt like another home, and everyone was really friendly and made you feel welcome. Would have definitely stood out in the gym as being less in shape than most but never once felt like that was an issue. Only tripe would be the steam room... developed a fungal infection, and it increased the size of a cyst but I was using it quite often, so just be cautious. If you're after a one-stop shop for all your fitness and health needs, this is the place :) Shout out to Lenell. she was beyond fantastic with her yoga classes!!!

The new gym that has opened is an incredible space and is testament to the hard work and vision the whole Function Well team has for years. I wanted to congratulate everyone on the smooth transition to the new space.

Fantastic experience: Did a strength conditioning with Boston and he was so nice, so knowledgeable with the exercises and explained it well. He made us feel comfortable and we had a lot of fun!! Pushed us to challenge ourselves to go beyond our limits. 100% would recommend! Such a beautiful boutique gym as well.

Fantastic experience: I have tried several gyms over the years and this is by far the best gym experience I’ve ever had. The facility is world class, it’s everything you need and more. The community presence is certainly fostered and present within the gym, which I really like. And as such, the members are polite and encouraging to each other - there are no big egos here, and no judgement. All the staff are so friendly and welcoming - I even had someone offer to unrack my weights for me after my last set as they were walking by! My next move is to engage a PT to further my goals - I’m excited!

Negative experience: These sub humans that attempt to run an overpriced gym seem to think it’s their GOD given right to just ignore cancelation requests then keep attempting debits into infinity and then send you to a collections agency like they are trying to recoup a product they’ve sold you that you’ve stiffed them on. How about no guys. Stare down threatening emails for a month to month gym membership. Do you actually think threatening peoples credit records over a few hundred bucks of GYM MEMBERSHIPS is how to do business pooooor effort and I’ll fight tooth an nail and win if you try. Pathetic place to join Update. Since their reply they referred a $900 debt to a collections agency. Absolute snakes!! Haven’t set foot in here since November 2021

Fantastic experience: My 5 star review is purely a reflection of the variety of class options available for members at FW. The Reformer Pilates instructors and class options are excellent, please keep it up! My only criticism is the yoga classes. Don't get me wrong the yoga class options are excellent and the instructors are even better, but it's not ideal that the yoga room is right above the Cross Fit area and the cross fit/yoga classes seem to regularly be going on at the exact same time if not always especially on weekdays. The cross fitters are pretty loud from the weights continuously being slammed and the music (like a nightclub!!) playing which feels distracting from the yoga practice. I still go to the yoga classes despite this and try to tune it out as much as possible, but unfortunately it's not as good or zen of an experience as it could be having the cross fit classes/area below. Definitely an opportunity for improvement though. Maybe could consider optimising the class times a bit with an aim to not have yoga and cross fit classes going simultaneously which may eliminate the noise and distractions for those attending the yoga classes.

Fantastic experience: I've been a member of many gyms over the years. I became a function well member after they purchased my old gym... they are awesome. SUPER friendly. No egos. The staff all love a good laugh. Everyone is focused on results driven training in a friendly environment. There's heaps of classes. The equipment is all first class. The space is beautiful. The owner is hands-on and runs a tight ship. You will not find a better gym.

Fantastic experience: I've joined many gyms over the years, and this is one of the best. The facilities are extensive, frequently updated and well maintained and include comprehensive recovery areas. Classes are varied and include everything from Crossfit (in the Athletic Zone downstairs) to yoga and pilates. The staff and trainers are also amazing. What really makes this gym stand out, however, is the incredible dedication that Darren and his crew have towards their community and its wellbeing. Function Well conducts a range of special events over the course of the year to support its clients and the broader community. During the COVID-19 lockdowns in 2020, the gym froze membership fees for clients but the crew still ran online classes and workshops to encourage people to stay active. Going the extra mile is what makes Function Well stand out in a crowded market. If all you are after is a fitness centre with a well maintained gym, extensive classes and good facilities then you can't go wrong, and if you're looking for a friendly, like minded community to train with then Function Well is definitely worth a look!

Negative experience: The sales team signed my partner up to a membership he did not want, when he tried to cancel that part of the membership they did not credit his account, they continued to charge him the wrong amount. They did not communicate what was going on, nor did they try to find a solution. They were pushy and had no empathy given it was their mistake. Seriously disappointing when everything he had communicated was in writing.

Negative experience: It took me 6 months to realise that function well were debiting my account at $120 per month which is not what I signed up for at all (I’d elected the gym floor package only). They have a shady relationship with a 3rd Party that is responsible for the debits, which in my view has been deliberately created to create confusion and enable them to carry on with this sort of thing. My advice would be to find a more honestly operated gym, and there are plenty in the area. To clarify, I had another gym membership when I signed up here and have been a regular gym user for 7-8 years. So I knew exactly what I was signing up for. Incidentally, when I came in to sign up, I actually had a friend with me who can verify what I have stated here. Some of the staff are very nice, but I don’t think the owner or whomever is running the place is very honest and so I would not recommend it.

Positive experience: The restoration zone at this wellness centre is a separate area from the gym. It's definitely worth a visit. The 10 degree stand up pool revitalised anything in my body that wasn't working before. A great place to interchange from steam sauna, dry sauna and the infer red sauna with 4 showers to clean between sessions. It's a small area to pass by everyone and unisex complete share zones. Its a little pricey at $55 a casual day pass however the $99 for the week is better value if you are local for a short stay. The friendly young staff members were bubbly and helpful. Thank you

There is always so much going on! - Seminars and workshops, a big community week, monthly challenges and they run Wim Hoff workshops throughout the year for their members. They also promote a very holistic approach to fitness and have a Restoration Zone with an infrared sauna, ice bath, massage chairs, BrainTap, red light therapy and more. I joined as a newbie to Brisbane not knowing anyone and have made so many friends thanks to Function Well's emphasise on fostering the Function Well community. Negative experience: Was here in December 2019. I literally have no words for the attitude and treatment I got from the guy at the front desk. Basically looked me up and down and laughed at me. Was dismissive of my queries. Waiting for 10 minutes to ask for membership details and ended up walking out. Just stay away. There are lots of gyms in the area go ANYWHERE else!!!

Fantastic experience: I have trained at Function Well/Athletic Zone for over 4 years, and now also use the Restoration Zone as well. It is a great place to train and be part of an inspirational community. All the coaches are very professional and welcoming, and push you hard within your limits; it comes highly recommended

Fantastic experience: I can honestly say that this is head and shoulders above any other gym that I’ve ever stepped foot into. I’ve been a CrossFit coach and trained at multiple facilities. But function well is incredible. An amazing community, well managed and such a great atmosphere. It has everything you could possibly want, it has things you need that you didn’t even know you need. Free hypervolts for use by members, a full restoration zone complete with a sauna, ice bath, steam room, meditation room, guided meditation headsets, yoga, Pilates and stretch classes. Epic group workout room with HIIT, metcon and Boxing classes that are run professionally and always have an epic atmosphere. A great CrossFit box with knowledgeable coaches and a full suite of really well trained personal trainers. Upstairs has a full 24hr gym with all the proverbial bells and whistles. Love this place!

Fantastic experience: I've been a member now for about 6 months and I only do the classes (HIIT and MetCon). After a lifetime of flopping about in different fitness activities, the FW group classes are by far the best habit I've ever made. All of your trainers do a terrific job with no two classes exactly the same to date. JP and Isaac host most of my classes and they are both absolutely brilliant. I actually look forward the the beatings they dish up. As a result I'm no doubt the fittest I've ever been (now at 45yo) and loving it. Kudos for creating such a great environment to train in.

Fantastic experience: I've recently signed up for this gym, it has been an incredible experience, especially with the restoration zone that has great YOGA classes and Pilates. Function well is a well-equipped gym with a different concept than average gyms around the area.

Positive experience: Pretty good gym. Lots of variety of equipment and with multiples of popular equipment. Well equipped change rooms. Nice and helpful staff. The downsides, a good portion of the weight plates are old and falling apart and there is plenty of quackery pushed with talk of detox's and supplements as far as the eye can see.

Fantastic experience: Highly recommend this gym! Very knowledgeable and dedicated coaches, supportive, friendly and fun atmosphere and a huge variety of classes and training options. I joined in January and have never been fitter or stronger thanks to the team at Function Well who truly believe in holistic health to enable you function well for life!

Fantastic experience: This has to be the best gym in Brisbane. I've been a member of Function Well for 3 years now and before then I wasn't really a gym person; I found them a bit impersonal and sometimes intimidating. Not this gym; all the staff including the trainers are super friendly and helpful and I always feel part of a big family when I'm here.

Fantastic experience: I was visiting from out of town for a couple of weeks when I discovered Function Well. The staff went above and beyond to make me feel welcome and the community of members are amazingly supportive of each other during the workouts. John the cross fit coach was so helpful at making sure I was using the right techniques and scaling options to ensure I could feel pushed but enjoy the workouts. Will definitely be coming back when I’m next in Brisbane!

Fantastic experience: I am no gym guru so when I stumbled across Function Well a short three months ago I was ready for motivation, positivity and a wealth of knowledge to come my way! Not only has FW helped me build strength and nutritional knowledge, the team have really helped me maintain a healthy balance within myself! From the moment you walk in the door, you're greeted with a smile and positive attitude and that continues through the whole gym and resonates with every member, trainer and associate to the gym. Fantastic experience: Four years ago, after becoming bored and unmotivated at a local commercial gym, I received the “gift of health”. It was excellent value for money and I haven’t looked back. I feel right at home when I am inside Function Well with the friendly environment. I share the same philosophy which makes training fun. I am now stronger, fitter and much more flexible then I have been previous. I now live in the burbs with serval 24/7 gyms in walking distance but can’t imagine training anywhere else. I can’t recommend Function Well highly enough! It is more than a gym. The ice bath is the best!

Fantastic experience: Beautiful gym, in great location. Love everything about this place EXCEPT they aren't catering for my particular bent of fitness (powerlifting). And I don't have a problem with that, given they don't have to be a gym for everyone. Their business, after all. Even so, I would train here full time if my own gym wasn't closer. Fantastic place EDIT: Because I can't respond to the owner comments below, it would seem I may have misjudged them. I will have to try their athletic zone (A place I did not see) to give a more comprehensive review of their catering for strongman/powerlifting
