Negative experience: I signed a one month contract and they are still taking my money

Negative experience: Dishonest company. Be careful if signing up for a short term membership. They send you an email saying approving your 30 day cancellation period but a hidden clause says it is 30 days plus the remainder of your debit. In my case I paid nearly $14 for 1 day's membership. It is not that much money but they are happy to rip you off for it. Even the guy on the phone seemed ashamed that he worked for a company which is willing to dishonestly take such a small amount through a hidden clause.

Negative experience: Zap is a great gym down in Tassie - but it is yet to reach the same standard here in Melbourne. Moving over I was delighted to see one very close to my house… but now I am looking for other options. Staff seem to not care at all - regularly they sit at the front of the gym on their phone… meanwhile there will be no tp in the bathrooms or a clogged toilet (seems to be a recurring issue at Richmond Zap). Zap Richmond has the potential for sure - amazing location - great price - but has some way to go. Great for new gym goers. Definitely miss Moonah Zap tho.

Negative experience: Be careful when signing the membership with them, as they trap you into debt collection. Very disappointed with them. Not recommend to anyone, please stop using them.

Positive experience: I enjoy zap as a gym, however I have some feedback on a recent change. The privacy/frosted sticker covering the front windows has been removed. On such a busy street during the day it’s a bit uncomfortable but my main concern is early in the morning when it’s still dark outside and the lights inside make it stand out a lot and people outside have a very clear, free view inside. As a woman, it makes me a bit anxious feeling so on show to the whole of the street at that time especially (and I’m sure for those who go late at night too). I’m sure it’s a decision to advertise the gym to passers-by but not my favourite thing now, I loved how private it felt before

Positive experience: Good prices but old gym with outdated equipment. The staff member was lovely and provided great customer service but was also 10 minutes late to our appointment.

Fantastic experience: Great gym in Richmond, opened 24/7 and all the equipment needed - notably free weights, squat/deadlift/bench press racks, etc. I can't recommend Zap enough!

Positive experience: A few days ago, I had an issue trying to get my tag as a new member and left a bad review just to get some attention to the matter. Luckily, the team (kind words to Jerome, soecifically) replied honestly and fast and they managed to help me. I have been coming since then and found the installations very clean and i haven't had an issue since then. Thank you

Negative experience: It is impossible to cancel your membership!! I didn't mind the gym, it's basic but does the job. However when I wanted to cancel my membership you can't do it online and they don't answer the phone. The only option is to send an email and then they don't reply. What a business model!!

Positive experience: Too many loud dropping of weights and poor variety in equipment. It's just conveniently close to home at this point.

Hi Ace I have just looked into your membership and there has been no communication from you at all regarding charges or cancellation of your membership? An email was received yesterday from you, one of the team will call you today to discuss your concerns.
Negative experience: Was a member for a few years only because it's close to home and cheap, but have had enough. Plenty of better gyms around. First off, quality of facilities was generally pretty mediocre, with bathrooms and showers not cleaned regularly enough for the amount of use they saw. Think the water cooler was broken for about a year before being repaired. Goes to show how much the owners care about general upkeep. Through COVID the communication was really poor. Had no idea why my account was being debited again without my consent. Would have opted out as even though VIC restrictions eased in June, wasn't comfortable using the gym at that stage and they had not communicated to their customers their intention to restart the debits. Had no reply to my email query so ended up calling and putting membership on hold. Now after changing gyms and seeking to cancel membership, I sent notice via email 10 days ago but find that they have again recently begun debiting my account without my consent after recent easing of restrictions. Have tried calling during their business hours only to encounter a pre-recorded message (that mentions their business hours, helpful) and no way of actually leaving a voicemail. From reading others' comments here it sounds like they treat their business / staffed hours as a suggestion only. Save your time and money, go elsewhere
Hi Julian I have looked into your membership and to confirm you contacted us on the 28th of June to update your email address (which we did) You also called in on the 6th of July to extend your hold on your membership (which we extended at your request).You emailed in on the 26th of November to cancel your membership. Your membership has been cancelled as requested with your 14 day notice period. If you need more clarification please do not hesitate to contact us to discuss further.

Negative experience: Requested to cancel my membership 2 weeks ago but have been ignored several times. I have sent many follow up emails. They really make it hard to cancel your membership. Please be professional and respond to my email.

Negative experience: Possibly the worst customer experience I've ever received. Zap made direct debits against my consent and ignored my request to cancel my membership. It took several requests to cancel my membership, after a number were ignored. Even though this is correct procedure as stated in their Terms and Conditions. Still waiting on a refund for two direct debits which were against my consent and not communicated with me.

Negative experience: Gym only staffed on weekends 11am-2pm on Saturday but when I turned up at 1:30pm to join up there was no one around. I buzzed several times but there was no answer. I called the phone number but it was for head office and went to an answering machine. Really pathetic way to encourage people to join.

Negative experience: Very uninspiring gym - extremely boring decor, strange layout, terrible music playing. Lots of machines never get used, so layout could easily be re-jigged & more useful machines & weights areas added. [Review Edit] So it's been 4 months since I left the review and the gym replied to my review - but literally nothing in the gym has changed. If anything, the music has actually gotten worse. It is so bad it's actually offensive - as a listener of music created by actual bands (ie rock) and not some kid on a computer, I feel completely discriminated against. I've actually had to buy noise-cancelling headphones so I can't hear the rubbish music.

Positive experience: Not too busy and all the equipment you'd expect for a cost-effective gym membership. Place is kept tidy. The only thing I have on the wish list is for staff to keep an eye on members that a) don't wear appropriate footwear, b) don't wipe down equipment or c) put their weights away!
Negative experience: Not off to a good start. Went in to collect my key at 10:30 on a Thursday to have no response to buzzing the door twice. Rang the number on the door to then be told someone was meant to be there at 10. Someone then answered the door and said that the person who runs the desk won’t be in until lunch time... So... at this point why would a bother continuing with my membership? Maybe I don’t have time to come back at lunch? Maybe the world doesn’t revolve around gym times and people not being at work without notice. Other staff members should answer doors maybe and maybe should know how to use the computers? Talk about saving time and joining online when it’s taking me twice the amount of time to pick up a key than it would be to sign up at any other gym. Cheers.
Fantastic experience: This gym has great airflow as it's fitted with fans throughout and a high roof and great natural light makes this a very comfortable place to workout. A wide variety of cardio machines, gym equipment, good number of benches and a space for stretching makes this location a great place to exercise.

Fantastic experience: Decent sized Zap Fitness, with pretty much every machine you would need. Does get quite busy in the morning, before dinner and after dinner. Parking can also be difficult to find as there is not a lot of parking to the rear of the gym. Would recommend coming at odd hours so you don't have to queue for the treadmill/weight racks.
Positive experience: Not bad for the price
