Fantastic experience: Great location

Negative experience: Gym facilities are great - except now and for the last month and a half due to their renovation which has made half of the gym inaccessible, whilst still charging full membership fees. I have moved from Coffs Harbour to the Central Coast, and rang reception to cancel my membership. Was informed its a $305 membership cancellation fee or I have to ride it out to January 2026 as the membership I'm on is a lock in contract of 12 months. I've been at this gym (see screenshot) since April 2024, and it is now August 2025 - make it make sense. I've been to a lot of gyms over the years due to moving to different cities, and this has been the worst cancellation experience. The coaches are great and would recommend them, but not worth the hassle if you need to cancel. Wouldn't need to cancel if I hadn't moved, so if you're 100% certain you'll be here for a long time its worth it, otherwise don't give yourself the headache.

Fantastic experience: Good atmosphere, kind staff, all round top notch. Ten outta ten would recommend.

Fantastic experience: Awesome gym it has so many different areas inc rooftop functional area, outdoor function area, weights/machine floor, cardio/machine floor, boxing area tucked away, studio room, cycle studio and a sauna. It's never busy, the staff are really friendly and all classes are included in the membership which can be month to month and is great value!

Negative experience: This chain of gyms is generally good, but it’s not the case for this branch. The staff are friendly, and the vibe from people in the gym feels comfortable. However, the gym itself is very run down. It looks as though it hasn’t been cleaned in a long long time. You never ever see gym staff putting equipment away or cleaning anything. Cleaners come in to do the changing rooms and gym floor but it literally doesn’t look as though it makes any difference. There is dust everywhere, bugs everywhere (including the showers, which are very grimey) and the equipment is rusty, or just not built for shorter people (women, children etc.) There are also for some reason only 1 set of 1.25kg and 2.5kg plates for machines and bars in the entire gym, which makes it extremely difficult to find/use them. Most of the classes here are actually paid for, as they’re part of the ‘coaching zone’ training. There are only 2-3 classes which are included in the membership. There is also no A/C here, only fans, which don’t do much to keep it cool at all. I sweat before I’ve even started my workout. There is also very limited parking anywhere near the gym Monday-Friday during business hours as everyone parks there for work, it being one of the only free car parks in central Coffs. I’ve been to gyms in less developed countries that are similar to this gym, the difference is I wasn’t paying $20 per week for them. This price is way too high for the gym quality.

Negative experience: Consistently broken machines Dust everywhere, piss poor hygiene Stupid admin fees and they make it difficult to cancel membership. Plenty of other gyms in coffs, use them instead

Negative experience: I'm still a member here, I generally don't care about the state of a gym. Go in get sweaty and leave. However, this place really needs a deep clean!

Negative experience: I tried to use my fitness passport at this gym recently. I was advised that I would have to pay a fee for an access tag and fill out 2 forms prior to entry? I have used my fitness passport at other gyms/facilities around Coffs Harbour seamlessly without having to pay an extra fee…which is the main reason for having the fitness passport in the first place. It’s disappointing that Genesis do not provide that same level of service. Needless to say I declined to use the facility.

Negative experience: Can't trial the gym without a Coffs Harbour address if you're new to the area. Ironically, the reception staff member that advised me of this literally coughed at me while telling me this. Didn't cover their mouth or anything. Major ick.

Fantastic experience: Such a pleasant experience even just signing up, and a huge thanks to Amanda (I’m sorry if I got the name wrong from the memory) for being so upbeat, professional and super friendly! First I tried to join another gym in the area, I won’t name the gym, but it was laughable experience at best. Staff didn’t know what the prices include, how to sign up and what to do. The answer to my questions was “it is what it is…” Then drove here, walked in, initially wanted to sign up my dad only, but ended up signing up my whole family! Negative experience: Before writing this review I read the last few previous reviews and it says it all. It’s a good gym, not going to lie but the membership is a scam. When you sign up you’re not signing up to the gym, you’re signing up for a scam and ridiculous fees as well. If you sign up for a 1 year membership and cancel within 1 year you pay a huge cancellation fee but after 1 year they keep taking your money even though you don’t renew your membership they still charge you then after the 1 year membership and you decide to cancel you still have to pay a cancellation fee. They don’t want you to join this gym to improve your overall health, they want you to join so they can take your money. Reading the previous reviews it seems like I’m not the only one saying this.

Negative experience: I do not normally leave reviews, but to help out a lot of people, I would. I would give 0 stars if I could. Whoever is thinking of signing up with these people, take your money and your peace and subscribe to a gym that is fair and not a money-grab focussed gym that has ridiculous cancellation fees, it is a financial trap, don’t get manipulated into signing up especially for the coaching zone. They hardly reply to phone calls and emails too and I absolutely would not recommend any 'Genesis gym' in Australia or in the world. I am incredibly disappointed I have never been to a gym with policies and administration that was this bad and selfish. They don't support their customers, they just take your money and never reply to any enquiries, just horrible. If I could go back in time, I would think twice before signing up. I am signed up to a totally different gym now, I am very happy with anytime fitness.

Negative experience: They never reply to your emails or call back. Do not get into a contract with them as they will just keep charging you even though you have cancelled your membership.

Negative experience: I’m located in Sydney south west and have never stepped foot into Coffs Harbour. However just received a marketing text from these people with no answer as to how they got my phone number.

Negative experience: I don't usually write google reviews but I thought it would be worth passing on pros/cons from my experience. I usually feel really bad for saying anything remotely negative, but think it is worth passing on information. Pros: -The team in Coffs are lovely and were super helpful, going out of their way to answer questions when signing up. - There is a great range of fitness classes available to choose from at a good rate. Cons: - Horrid cancellation policy. Please be aware of this before you sign up. It states that there is a $150 cancellation fee + 30 days of notice (ends up being over $200). But even though you have to pay for the 30 days notice, you don't get to continue to access the gym for that time despite paying for it. You can only access until the next billing cycle. This makes no sense to me logically, as if I have paid for the service so I would assume that I could attend. Really disappointed. - Very loud music throughout the building, can make it hard to listen to your own music or feel relaxed at all.

Fantastic experience: This gym is the best gym I've ever been to in Coffs harbour and the membership cost is only a one time payment for a pass to get in after hours.

Fantastic experience: Staff changes affect all businesses in some way shape or form. I was happy with the resolution provided by Mark who is covering off multiple avenues for Genesis. People management is by far the hardest thing to do but achieving a desired result for clients is always a win.

Positive experience: Nice gym, well equipped, open 24hs.

Negative experience: Staff have no idea what’s going on. The flexible weekly membership is not actually flexible, you can’t cancel it when ever you want like I was told upon joining, and I requested cancellation weeks before I needed too and still they didn’t actually begin the cancellation process until I was gone, I told them I needed it sorted because I was moving away and they still did not cancel when I asked and instead did it a week after I left meaning I have to pay another month for the gym. This company is immoral and devious, I’ll be warning all the people I know in coffs, to quit that gym and join another or to not join it in the first place, worst treatment I’ve ever had from a gym

Negative experience: Tyres to cancel my membership 5 weeks ago. They said there is a 30 day cancellation fee which was fine last payment was supposed to be on the 9th another payment came out the following week rang up they said there was no evidence they I cancelled my membership and are making me pay another 4 weeks worth of payments. Absolute joke!!!

Positive experience: Genesis has all the weights and machines and so much space, but somehow always feels crowded (especially in the downstairs weights area) and it's very hard to get space to do simple biceps curls without being in someone's way.

Negative experience: Years ago this gym used to have an amazing reputation. It has a good range of machines and equipment, and the only sauna in the area. However this does not make up for the lack of customer service. They go through employees monthly and not once did I ever see them out to clean down equipment. The uncleanliness is unmatched, and there was no supervision to ensure people use towels. Also many of the machines that persuaded me to join were constantly out of order regardless. I will mention that their group classes are great, but there are never enough mats, weights etc for others to use if you arent participating. The biggest cause of concern is their basic lack of human morals.. This gym has stolen from myself, as well as many other friends, months of pay once cancelling membership. I was pregnant and at high risk when I requested my cancellation before they went into Covid 19 lock down. They wouldn't allow me to cancel over the phone, and so I cancelled in person. Months later the weekly payment was still coming out and when I called and enquired, there was apparently no proof I had cancelled. So another trip in person was needed, putting the health of my child as risk during this pandemic, and even more months of cancellation pay. Considering this gym has higher rates than most in the area, save yourself the hassle and look elsewhere.

Fantastic experience: After attending this awesome gym for over 5 years the time has come for me to cancel unfortunately due to moving away and all I can say is I am really going to miss this gym and the staff. The staff are extremely friendly and really make you feel welcomed! The gym itself is always clean and the machines and equipment are always being kept in good condition or being upgraded! I highly recommend anyone wanting a gym where you can feel yourself and do your best, to join Genesis Coffs Harbour!

Fantastic experience: Well equipped gym, on 3 levels. Especially like the rooftop workout space, but the gym is spacious overall. The staff are all super friendly and you can even choose your own music through their system. Good selection of classes available via their simple but great app.

Negative experience: Worst experience with these people. I informed them not to charge my card in writing still they charged my card plus penalty fee. Not recommended. If you want to join, make sure you don't sign for debitsuccess direct billing. Worst experience.

Negative experience: I was treated TERRIBLY by the staff at genisis Coffs Harbour. When money was taken out of my account that wasn't supposed to be I was treated even worse - one of the staff member kept saying "you signed a contract" -- I cancelled my membership during the cool down period. Also be aware, you're not signing a contract with the GYM you're signing a contract with DEBIT SUCCESS and rather than helping you they(staff at genisis) will rub that fact in your face AFTER you've signed up.

Negative experience: Gym is good until you want to pause or cancel your membership. Customer service is so bad. I will definitely never go back and would advise everyone to look for an alternative instead of falling into their trap. Management should consider doing a course in customer service and training their staff properly!

Positive experience: Pros: There’s two gyms in town, one in Coffs and one in Toormina, which is really handy. Coffs is a well equipped facility with loads of equipment including free weights, pin loaded machines, and cardio and functional equipment. There are three levels including a rooftop which is a really nice spot for a workout in Summer (although it is a little under-utilised - Workout and a BBQ type events would work really well up there) and there’s also a sauna and full locker rooms. There’s also heaps of group classes on offer, and for the most part there’s a nice community kinda feel - the members I’ve spoken to have been amicable and polite. Toormina is a smaller gym with less equipment but still has everything you need to get a workout in. Both gyms have Coaching Zone, which is Genesis’s group personal training offering, and there seems to be plenty of session times on offer. Membership is among the cheapest in town, and I’ve never had any direct debit or membership issues (which I certainly have at other businesses). Both facilities also have 24/7 access. Cons: The Coffs gym is very messy, and no one seems to have much regard for putting equipment away. It can be really frustrating at best, and could be dangerous at worst. On the whole, staff are pretty good, but I’ve had fairly negative experiences with some - they have been pretentious and unprofessional. Staffed hours seem to differentiate a little from what’s written on the window of the gym. All in all, could do with some TLC in terms of tidiness and cleanliness (if some solid effort went into this it could be a really nice facility), but not a bad place to work out, and still gets my pick in the Coffs area.

A fantastic culture has been embedded at this facility and it flows to the clients... everyone knows to be respectful, care for the facilities and each other. Fantastic experience: Genesis Coffs Harbour is my second home. I have been coming here for at least 15 years in total. Since the Genesis takeover the Big Blue Building has become a force to be reckoned with. A gym has to have the right vibe and ambience that brings out the best in you but is also inviting. Genesis has created this with excellent and friendly knowledgeable staff. It brings together a team environment but also allows for you to be on your own as well. You will not find a friendlier place to work out and meet new people. This is also a safe, comfortable and non judgemental place which is the integral key I believe. The equipment and upgrades are constant. A sign that the owner cares about the Brand he owns. Its a pleasure to be part of this awesome place. Thank you

Fantastic experience: I've been a member at Genesis Coffs for nearly 18 months now. There's recently been a big refurbishment and new equipment which is nice. This gym has a great atmosphere, there's no sleazy trainers or the feeling of being ogled when you're working out. The sauna is a bonus too and the reason my hubby and I joined Genesis over other gyms. There's great offers on membership and it's very affordable for us.

Fantastic experience: Coffs Harbour genesis has such a huge variety of equipment. There are also so many different workout areas including outdoor sections. The classes are also great and have very welcoming instructors, if you introduce yourself they will tell you exactly what you need and what to expect before you begin! I really miss going to Coffs Harbour Genesis since I’ve moved locations for all these reasons as well as the friendships I made through attending the gym at least 5 days a week! I wouldn’t choose another gym in Coffs over genesis!

Fantastic experience: I highly recommend this gym to people in the area or who have relocated! The trainers have tremendous knowledge and are very helpful and friendly. There is a number of options with classes for all fitness levels and the members are all friendly and easygoing. I'd encourage you to try one of their Coaching Zone programs or group sessions and meet the trainers and other members.
