Negative experience: I have been a member of Fernwood Gym and appreciate the facilities and services offered. However, I feel compelled to address an issue with the reception staff's customer service, which has consistently fallen short of expectations. A warm greeting and courteous demeanor are fundamental aspects of customer service, especially in a wellness-oriented environment like Fernwood. Unfortunately, I have noticed that the reception staff often fail to acknowledge customers upon arrival or departure. Basic courtesies such as saying "hello," "thank you," or "goodbye" seem to be neglected. While the gym's amenities and trainers are commendable, the initial interaction at the front desk sets the tone for the overall experience. A lack of professionalism and friendliness from the reception staff detracts from what should be a welcoming and positive atmosphere. I believe this issue can be easily addressed through staff training in customer service etiquette. Encouraging a culture of politeness and approachability would significantly enhance the overall experience for members. I hope Fernwood Gym takes this feedback constructively and works towards ensuring all members feel valued and respected from the moment they step through the doors.

Negative experience: I want to share my disappointing experience with Fernewood Fitness. I’ve been a member since October 2023 but have never attended a single class. Throughout this time, no one from the staff followed up with me or inquired about my absence. In May 2024, I decided to cancel my membership, but a staff member convinced me to place it on hold for three months. I specifically asked if they would check with me before resuming the membership, and they assured me that no payments would be deducted until I confirmed my return. However, in August, I received an email stating that my deferral had ended and they were excited to see me back. I replied to that email, requesting to cancel my membership. Unfortunately, I was unable to call them at the time due to a family emergency, as my father had passed away. Despite this, they still deducted the membership fee from my account. When I returned to Australia, I contacted the gym again to cancel. They scheduled an appointment, but I couldn't attend due to another family emergency. Meanwhile, they continued deducting payments from my account. When I finally went to the gym to explain the situation, the staff member I spoke with was incredibly rude. She made me feel even worse by stating that it wasn’t their responsibility whether or not I used the gym while being a member. She also mentioned that, as a flexible member, I didn't need to pay a cancellation fee, but I was required to make two consecutive payments to cancel, which no one had informed me of when I signed up. Her dismissive attitude and lack of empathy were unacceptable. She even told me, "Next time, don’t sign a contract before reading it." Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this gym to anyone. The staff is unprofessional and uncaring, and it feels like they're more interested in draining your money than offering a good service.

Negative experience: Started coming here 2023 july, things were great the first few weeks but somewhere around november, the leg curling machine stopped working. Now, June 2024 (been 6 months) it still has not been fixed. Also they stopped giving out sanitary items and have now asked for payment? When I was first introduced to the gym they offered free pads, tampons etc in the locker area and now they’ve stopped offering it to cut costs I assume. With the amount you’re paying fortnightly, you’d assume a luxurious experience but half of the machines aren’t even working, and theres barely any machines to work with. It is very much not worth your money.
Hi Tiffany, Thank very much for taking the time to give us feedback. Firstly, we apologise in regards to the leg curl machine. We first noted there was something wrong with the machine on 4th of June this year. We tried getting it fixed asap, however, the repairer was fully booked and unable to attend until the club until 17th of June. Prior to this year, last year the machine was out of action in March 2023 due to parts and again in June 2023. We are very sorry for the inconvenience caused. In the past couple of years, we have endeavored to increase our machine offerings to our members and purchased a new ski erg, stair climbers and the booty builder as examples. In regard to the sanitary items. We have never provided this free of charge, however you may have seen some samples that were available to our members. In this case, a sanitary company had approached us to give these samples out for free. We do offer lots of other amenities which are included in your membership such as shampoo, conditioner and breakfast which I hope that you have been able to enjoy. The Fernwood App is also included in all memberships which has exercise and recipe ideas. Thank you again for taking the time to provide your feedback. Positive experience: I have been a member of Fernwood on and off between 2008 to now. I have noticed the quality of service drop as staff got replaced by computers and apps. I much prefer the human interactions. Nevertheless, I won’t change to another gym simply because of the brilliant instructors here. I have been doing Reformer Pilates and yoga for the past 2 years. I was encouraged to try these exercises so as to help strengthen my shoulders and back from an occupational injury. My favourite instructor is Marta and I feel she is a big asset to this gym. She is very knowledgeable and a good role model of how much one can achieve if there is discipline and persistence . I know how important correct posture and technique are (I damaged my shoulder from incorrect posture at work). Marta has been great at teaching us exercises that makes us strong and at the same time safe and fun to do. Her classes are always fulfilling and I can now do things I never could before and this has helped remedy my ailments. She gives beginner’s, intermediate and advanced options hence her classes are suitable for every level. Thanks Marta for looking after us!! Going to a class with other women makes it more comfortable and less intimidating and quite often there is a lot of laughter during the classes. I feel this is the perfect gym for me and hope that the staff issues get resolved soon.

Negative experience: DISCLAIMER: MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE DOES NOT REFLECT THE QUALITY OF THIS GYM OR EVERY STAFF MEMBER HERE. My colleague recommended this gym so I signed up for a trial pilates reformer jump board class. I’ve been doing reformer pilates for about 3 yrs now and have been to many different yoga/pilates studios. I just want to try it out since it is on my way home from work. The email I received before class told me to arrive 10 mins before the class so the instructor can give me a tour of the studio and the machine. I arrived 15 mins early, the receptionist said the door won’t open until close to the class starting time, so just use the gym equipment outside for now. I was impressed with the gym, as it is female only gym and was seriously considering joining it. After that, closer to the class starting time, I went in to the studio. My instructor (Marta) didn’t introduce herself. I didnt know who my instructor was until a few mins later. She also didn’t give me a tour or asked me any questions being a new client (e.g. Have you done pilates before? Do you have any injuries? etc.). Instead, she was just talking to other clients about her Easter weekend and showing them photos of what she ate over the weekend. It didn’t really bother me until it was 7 mins past the class starting time and we still didn’t get started yet. Imagine if i were paying premium membership like other clients, I would prefer the class to start on time. That was one of the minus points for me. During class, I found her intimidating and unapproachable. Marta was on the reformer machine working out with us during the entire class, on the row opposite to me. I found her speaking fast and softly at times, so it was a bit hard to hear her instructions. Part of the reason why it was hard to hear her is because of the 2 rows of machine are set up facing each other (usually the machines will all face the same direction). So for some movements, we would face our back against Marta, I found myself constantly having to turn my head around to see what she was doing behind the jump boards. Another girl on the same row with me and I got told off for using the wrong spring (the spring from previous exercise) because we literally couldn’t hear her instructions from this side. Marta seemed like a strong and fit woman but I wouldn’t recommend her as a pilates instructor to any of my friends. Overall, I thought the whole thing was quite unprofessional compared to many other studios out there. Please book your class with other instructors and I hope you will have a better experience.

Negative experience: Found the ‘cancellation anppointment’ to be a joke! Came all the way down for a 2 second appointment that could have easily been done over the phone but when I had originally asked for that was told you couldn’t due to ‘private information’ which was merely a survey on what I like about the club & why I’m choosing to leave. When first discussing cancelling my membership back in early Feb a lady over the phone whom had said my membership cancellation would be backdated when me first email was sent (as I’m FIFO) I was just told that’s not a thing and I will be charged 2 more times as my cancellation only comes into effect when paperwork is signed. To say I’m annoyed is an understatement, won’t be recommending Fernwood to anyone.

Negative experience: This gym used to be my favorite as a female muslim as it’s ladies based gym which offers an affordable child care, but unfortunately I had to leave the country urgently and I contacted them in regards to my 18 months membership and they only offer me A$300 cancellation fee or to freeze my membership for A$5 p/w until I come back without any single consideration of my situation as if I knew already that I may leave suddenly travel won’t get the 18 months membership. On the other hand, my partner’s gym assisted him in free membership cancellation. For now I have to pay the gym weekly just to keep my membership! So disappointed.
Fantastic experience: A great gym for any women wanting to join a gym and not have to worry about the stress of having men in the same space. The front desk team are super helpful and always lovely to have a chat to!

Positive experience: I had been a member here maybe 9 years ago, but didn't use the membership. Rejoined end of last year and so glad I did, the gym has had a wonderful transformation with much more to offer, the classes are great and the staff I have encountered are lovely and helpful shout out to Maddy and Renata! Only set backs but also very minor would be the age of the equipment not being able to log my mobile in to track my progress and the staffed hours are short, I love the infrared sauna but it is only available staffed hours.

Positive experience: I only pay for casual sessions, which is $20 each time - cheaper than weekly+sign up fees, and since I go 0-1 a week it works out. Not enough equipment, space or other incentive to sign up for a membership here TBH. It's otherwise very clean, the classes are good and the staff are friendly.

Fantastic experience: Great location, easy parking, clean, fun, vibrant atmosphere with bright cheerful staff. The premises is clean and has gorgeous aesthetics with a generous sized bathroom for showering including a seperate room for storing belongings and changing. If you have children there is an upstairs child care facility too. At the entry I was greeted by friendly staff and the entryway was inviting. As a bonus there is a day spa located inside the gym that I booked into and this was a real winner, so try it out!!!! If you are a gym nut this place is 5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Negative experience: Rude staff as always been a customer for 1.5 years now. Except a few staff members. Maddy and gagilardi are very kind girls. I thought it was a place where us mums would be understood and considered that how hard it is to manage to get our selves to gym. I forgot my towel yesterday and this woman on the counter didn't let me in and asked where my towel is as i don't sweat a lot I don't need one it's an extra baggage for me we wipe down the equipment anyway. I asked if I can use treadmill only which also gets wiped after use but nah carelessly denied not considering how far I drove from. Excuse was covid and hygiene. She said we are trying to remind everyone. NO YOU ARE NOT REMINDING YOU ARE PUNISHING. Basically if you don't have a towel your membership is useless. You forgot your rudeness but didn't forget to show off your extra efficiency if you could have only put your ego aside. you ruined my day I am trying to come to gym after a long time. You wasted all my energy and motivation. Now I don't feel like seeing this gym and staff. I MIGHT get an explanatory reply saying it is our rule or policy blah blah then I would say that please make sure this HARD AND FAST RULE by everyone and everyone is treated equally as I have seen soooo many others without a stupid towel. So thought it was fine .

Negative experience: They only care about the money and how they can trick you to charge more. My wife joined that gym and they charged her $250 just to register m, this is the highest joining fees I have ever seen in my life. When my wife decided to put it on hold, they charge $4 dollars weekly to keep the membership, otherwise you pay $250 again. Then out of a sudden without any notifications, they returned the membership and charged my wife the membership fees. What a horrible communication!!!! In a nutshell, look for another gym.
Hi, Sorry to hear of this misunderstanding. All the deferral fees are in our terms and conditions when you join. Yes correct when you pop your membership on hold it is for a set time and has an end date so once the deferral period has ended the membership resumes as normal. This is done in writing by the member and is up to the member to remember when they choose to defer to. Thank you for your feedback.
Negative experience: I joined this gym last year and selected one year subscription. However after completing one year they did not let me cancel my subscription. They deduct one month money from my account. This gym was expensive and I joined it as I was told they provide training. But when I went there for one week, no one provided me any training. Really frustrated with these people. And after that I never went to gym as I know only how to use treadmill and I got it at my home too. Then what was the purpose to go there. Still I was paying because I selected one year subscription but after one year still they don’t let me cancel it without deducting one month money. Highly not recommend and will not go there ever and suggest my friends too not to go there ever.
Karamjit, I am so sorry to hear of your experience with us. When you join on a 12 month contract this is the minimum term you are locked in for then it is a ongoing contract as health and fitness is a lifestyle. All our memberships require a 30day notice period to cancel and you can find all of this information in the terms and conditions when you sign up. We are very transparent about this. When you join you get an induction to help you learn how to use all the machines which we did try and call you on several occasions to book in with no luck. I hope we get to see you again in the future and this gives you a better understanding of the situation. Thank you

Negative experience: Unfortunately removed the classes we joined for so times/classes no longer suited us. So on top of paying for something we couldn't use we had to pay a $200 cancellation fee. Ripped off!
Oh that is such a shame to hear, I had a good look into this and we did take your original feedback of wanting more classes at the 4:30 time slot on board and added those in, but then your schedule changed I believe and they didn't suit any more. We try our best to accommodate everyone's feedback and requests. Unfortunately with all our contracts there is a cancellation fee that applies unless you choose to go on the Flexible membership. Fantastic experience: I have been a member of Fernwood for a year and highly recommend it. The facilities and staff are fantastic! So many options for group training classes, instructors are passionate and motivating. The creche is great- clean and fun. Staff are friendly and enagaging with kids. The creche is open longer hours than others in the area and fee is the same price or less than other gyms in the area which influenced my decision to join.

Fantastic experience: It's 24 hours ladies only gym. We come in all shapes but with 1 objective, to be fit, healthy and have some me time. The staff here is really amazing, friendly and informative well trained about health and being healthy.

Fantastic experience: Best thing I ever did was join Fernwood Cannington. Every single staff member is so welcoming and kind. All of the trainers are inclusive and motivating. The female only gym environment is nothing like I’ve experienced before. Everyone is there to work out and no one is concerned about what anyone else is doing. I went from exercising twice per week to 6 days per week at Fernwood. I’m fitter now than I have ever been and the improvements I’ve seen in my mental health are remarkable. I’ll shout it from the rooftops: “JOIN FERNWOOD!!!! IT’S AWESOME!”

Fantastic experience: I have been a member of here for 4 years and I have only ever had great experiences with Fernwood Cannington. The Staff are always so friendly, welcoming and some feel like family i am there that often. I feel the change to 24/7 was new and exciting for someone like me who has always loved working out in the afternoons, and with small children the class times work very well !!! My experience with the process to 24/7 was VERY transparent and my options were made very clear to me and all of the lovely friends i have made there agree !!! Also i feel it works great for the gym, it is seamless walking through reception now i love it. I have two young girls and the ladies that work up in the Creche are AMAZING i couldn't trust a more capable and caring bunch, they out do there selves and my girls love them so much !!! 100% would and do recommend this gym to anyone and everyone i know and meet. It is my happy place.

Fantastic experience: Fernwood gym is amazing. Its filled with so many inspiring and motivated women. Its my safe place and I absolutely love the variety of classes. The instructors are amazing and I always leave the gym buzzing. The staff are always so friendly and love a good chat. Fantastic experience: Joining Fernwood fitness wasn’t an easy choice for me, purely because I have had the worst experiences with previous gyms before, so it’s something I avoid, especially as a mum of young twins. Joining fernwood as a commitment to my health was where that all changed! From the minute I walked in for the first time I can honestly say everyone was so warm and welcoming, the atmosphere was just so ‘happy’ and you could tell the staff and members WANTED to be there! You very quickly become family and if your a mum, so do your kids! The crèche is amazing! My twins look forward to going every morning and the break from me & home to let them grow and learn independently is so beneficial for us all! I get my break and they get theirs! They love the crèche staff, especially Kylie and Emily! If you are worried about leaving your children for the first time, they are in great hands and it’s beneficial for everyone’s mental health to have that small break and I wouldn’t have it any other way! If you are thinking about joining fernwood, I highly recommend doing it, my mental and physical health have improved so much since I joined and the friends you make in the staff and other members is something I didn’t expect at all, but I wouldn’t change it for the world!

Positive experience: I joined Fernwood in December 2019, and I have recently cancelled my membership. I had both positive and negative experiences with the gym. I enjoyed the range of classes they had on offer, as well as the facilities available. The gym was always clean and the atmosphere was very energetic and motivating, which I appreciated. Something that upset me during my membership was the lack of transparency with fees. When I initially went to cancel my membership (in December 2020 when I believed my contract had ended) I found out that my contract was actually extended until March, because of the three month closure due to covid. I thought this was reasonable, but I was upset that it wasn’t communicated with me in any way. I feel that a contract is binding, and so to extend it for three months without my knowledge felt unprofessional. Furthermore, I felt the recent change to 24/7 gym was not adequately communicated. I came in once for a session, and was simply asked to sign a document if I wanted to use the gym outside of unstaffed hours. I said sure, and I was ready to sign, however I wasn’t told that it would incur a $59 fee for the toggle, until I read through several pages of text. Again, this is understandable, I just wished it was communicated appropriately, and explained immediately as I know this is something every person would like to know before signing a document. Also, there was a lot of miscommunication with cancelling my membership. I was told during my consultation (you need to book an appointment to cancel, which is also strange) that I wouldn’t be able to cancel until after my membership ended, and that I would need to pay fees for one more month after that. However, I later found this to be untrue. Another staff member, Fiona, was able to process my cancellation prior to my new end date, and assured me I would only have to pay until my contract ended. I feel that all staff should be on the same page, and a sales consultant in particular should be aware of all the rules. If I’d listened to the first consultant, I would have had to pay an extra $160 in fees, which is ridiculous. For banking purposes, I required a date (in writing) for my last direct debit. I called and spoke to Louise on the phone, who was extremely curt and rude. She wouldn’t let me speak, talking over me when I was trying to ask her questions. She simply said no, we can’t give you a last end date because everything was “theoretical”. When I asked if I could speak to someone else, she was very unhelpful saying that no one would be able to provide me with one. I was quite shocked at her lack of effort to assist me, so pushed until she eventually referred me to management, who were much more helpful. I didn’t, I still don’t understand the need to be so rude and unhelpful for no reason at all. TLDR: the gym and the facilities are good, however communication really lacks transparency and a lot of the time it will cost you financially. Staff members are okay, however some are really curt and rude, especially when they find out you are on your way to cancelling your membership. I’ve left with a bitter taste in my mouth.

Yes unfortunately due to covid everyone had some adjusting to do. Everything froze for the closure time and then resumed once we opened again, with this happening it did mean all contracts were extended, since all contracts are 12 or 18m worth of payments not time served, we believed this would have been understood. 24/7 is a huge and exciting change in club for us. We made the best effort possible to contact all members as soon as possible via many different communication channels. We understand we will have some bumps in the process but we can assure you we are trying our best for a smooth transition. I do want to sincerely apologise for the negative interaction with one of our staff members and this issue has been addressed. On a positive note we are so happy to hear you love our range of classes and energetic atmosphere. We hope to see you in the future. Thank you
Negative experience: They are sneaky and don't tell you that everything costs money - like the creche, water (which you conveniently have to buy as they've turned off both water fountains,) extra classes, access to the new 24/7 gym hours, a towel if you forget yours. The gym membership is $40 a fortnight which is double that of local gyms, but it really isn't worth that. No reason for the fee to be so high when there aren't any perks. I tried cancelling my membership, but you need to book an appointment, which conveniently occurs after the next direct debit cycle. Then they say you have an exit fee, or you have to find THEM someone to take over your membership etc. Takes forever to cancel. There are lots of women only gyms around the area - don't sign up here. Try Hiit Society, FiitZone, Good Life, Curtin Gym etc.
Evening Yas, I am so sorry to hear this has been your experience with us. Unfortunately due to Covid restrictions we have had some adjusting to do within the club and have done our best to do it with ease and as little disruptions as possible. However this did effect the unavailability of water fountains and the towel hire. Once these restrictions change we will be sure to have the fountains running as usual and have towels available for hire for members who forget theirs, as it is a policy to always have a towel when training. Now that we are moving towards 24 hour every member who wants to have access to the club outside of our staffed hours will need to purchase their own access tag, if not they are more than welcome to continue to use the club within staffed hours. Sorry to hear the cancellation process ended up being difficult for you, this is not our intention, neither was it to make the appointment after the next direct debit and unfortunately all our 12 and 18 month contracts if broken do incur a break fee as stated in the contract when joining. I do want to thank you for your feedback as we do appreciate it and will be taking this all on board for the future. All the best.

Negative experience: I went to join new membership yesterday.i was told by a staff that it will cost $19.56 fortnightly as FIFO.suprisingly next day another staff told me it is wrong..why would you keep staff that do not have enough knowledge ..just wasted my time..i found unprofessional. I went there as a view to join new membership. As i got full time Uni and work plus kids i could attend only 3 days.But other lady was NO.."you have to pay full price, there are so many members who can come few days only.." She was not ready to listen and rudley said BYEEE .. Not recommending to my friends

Negative experience: I loved some of the trainers here and have been a loyal customer for 2 years but all management at fernwood care about is MONEY, MONEY, MONEY. They lack transparency and provided lots of misinformation to me just so I could purchase MORE. Extremely disappointed in the service because I loved many of the trainers but no justification for discrepancies, current management is poor with horrible communication skills and money hungry - DO NOT RECOMMEND.

Negative experience: Due to an accident resulting in a serious leg infection, medically i was unable to continue at the club. I had pre-purchased sessions, a refund was refused, i could not gift the sessions to someone in the club, only if i found THEM a new member! They could not have cared less, cold as ice, fake trainers .... after being an original foundation member It was difficult to realize just how false they really are .... seriously NOT RECOMMENDED be careful!

Negative experience: I found fernwood fitness to be very secretive about their expenses from the get go. They will bring you in to look at the gym and then try to get you to sign up at an exorbitant expense (my membership was $41.40 with a "15%" discount). They will also charge you sign up fees around $150 which is non-refundable. Further to this, when you sign up they will show you a list of payments and imply this is the end date of your contract. It's not! They will continue to charge you past this end date and when you attempt to cancel they make it extremely difficult. After I had realised I was still being charged I called to cancel and they expect you to come in and sign documents. I said ok, I'll come in today as it was the day before yet another direct debit to the gym. Of course that wasn't possible, not only do you have to go into the gym and can't cancel over the phone you have to make an appointment, which will conveniently be after they've yet again charged you. Once you go in to cancel they will still want an extra months worth of fees! Do not sign up with them and if you do be aware of their tactics to make you pay more.

Negative experience: This gym has rapidly gone downhill, the best staff have gone - the friendly atmosphere is gone - very rude office staff. I was a member and I am extremely glad I am no longer one. Read all the paperwork before signing! $200 exit fees and 2 fortnights worth of payments needed if you cancel ( and trust me that is not a pleasant conversation, I was treated very rudely and unprofessionally) Signing up is $200 PLUS you have to pay for online part even if you don’t want it, thats another $100++ Go elsewhere, I would not recommend.

Positive experience: I've been to 5 other gyms, this gym is the best so far. I feel very comfortable there and the staff are very welcoming. A little pricy, but worth it when I go everyday.
Fantastic experience: This is the 3rd gym i have been a member at and the best one. Heaps of classes, friendly helpful staff. I travel half an hour to get there when i have several gyms 5 minutes from me, thats how good it is.
Negative experience: All this club cares about is money. Withdrew money from my account without my authorisation after I had cancelled a membership and then tried to charge me an additional $200 to cancel from the club. Very rude forceful staff.
