Negative experience: I have just ended my compulsary sign-up 4 month period with the Goodlife Gym in Glen Iris. They were terrible. They over charged me for the paid 3 month introductory period ( 1st month was free) . They charged me too much at the start of the first billing week, then billed me the full week at the end of the three month period . So the billing went beyond the contracted terms as I understand them. I ended up paying 3.15 for the compylsary 3 months, which is an extra $20, which is not material except that is very annoying given the dreadful experience, poor equipment and general unacceptable treatment that i encountered. I used the facility for total of 5 times, because the equipment was so bad, not fit for purpose with several key gym pieces broken during my whole time there and the facility being so tired, especially treadmills and lat machines and the spaced was restricted. All of these negatives made the gym both expensive for what it was and unsuitable for my training. My opinion is that it's the worst gym I have ever used. My advice is don't sign up to this facility or deal with this chain. They are bad, bad, bad

Negative experience: I have been a Goodlife member for over 20 years. Glen iris is great space. Previously spin classes were exceptional….. great instructors, bikes that were fit for purpose and a great spin community. Then the company bought new bikes without power meters. A power meter is essential for training. Staff and members have requested bikes that are fit for purpose……. The company says “Goodlife does not use power for training”. This directly contradicts The Cycling Bible that states power is essential for training. Come on Goodlife Glen Iris - support your member to train effectively…… replace the bikes…

Fantastic experience: I have been training with Goodlife health clubs and rare strengths consistently for 3 months and have had a great experience. Negative experience: The worst gym I have signed upto. I'm waiting for this disastrous 3 month contract to end. It's very expensive for what it is , with crud equipment. When i was there, it had an unacceptable number of gym pieces broken or out of use. The running machines are old and unacceptable given the membership price. There are no redeeming features of this tired, expensive and poorly equiped gym. The contract fees were not properly explained and the billing is wrong. It is scam central.

Negative experience: The facilities and equipment are great, however the cleanliness and of this gym is questionable, especially at this time during COVID. There are piles of used towels and other personal items laying around the gym floor, some have been there for a few weeks. We escalate this to the reception and it was explained as they are personal items the cleaners don’t touch them.

Negative experience: Not exactly rare for a gym to try scam people but just slimy behaviour from some people in the reception, deliberate lack of clarification on certain details (there was no 18 month contract mentioned when I signed up + misleading me around options to suspend/cancel memberships), and a bit of a general lack of compassion and understanding when handling certain matters. If a gym has no policies that allow for people to cancel memberships, that is fine, though I would recommend GoodLife try to consider revising policies to allow for that especially with current cost of living issues; but much worse than that is NOT CLARIFYING certain details. In my experience I froze a membership but was not told that freezing the membership would prolong the end date of the contract (told the opposite in fact) and as a result I’ve had to pay extra money out of pocket, when I called them about cancelling a membership due to wishing to save costs anyway. Luckily (both for me and their consciences, if they have one) I’m not under real cost of living pressures, moreso just wanting to save more; but I would caution them to revise how they deal with people who ring them about cancelling or suspending memberships with the rise in cost of living issues, even though the gym is located in an affluent area. Will admit fault for signing the contract in the first place + will certainly be more mindful moving forward, but do think there’s been some sliminess on their end. Gym equipment itself isn’t too bad though + most of the people at the gym are pretty friendly Pretty wild going through reviews from pre-COVID times to see people have had the same issues (verbal statements and agreements made that are backtracked over email) so you can take the stock standard “we will do our best to fix this moving forward” stuff and flush that down the toilet

Negative experience: Poor cleanliness. As often experienced with the goodlife gyms I go to. No hand soap in any of the dispensers in the men’s change room at 2:20pm today. Seriously, is it beyond your staff to replenish these or check them on a regular basis?

Fantastic experience: I have been a member at Good Life Glen Iris for 10 years. The premises have every piece of equipment any trainee could possibly need and the trainers are all very experienced, knowledgeable and amiable. The temperature of the building is always perfect for training and access is available 24 hours. I have had memberships at several other gyms in Australia and the USA and nothing I have experienced compares with Good Life Glen Iris, which I recommend most highly, without any reservation.

Fantastic experience: I have had the best five months of getting fit and improving my strength and it’s all down to my wonderful personal trainer Ekua. Negative experience: Poor customer service. I have asked my family to help me and I have tried a number of times to get my membership on hold after I had to urgently go overseas. Instead of providing assistance I’ve been sent in circles. Very disappointed!

Fantastic experience: I did a complementary body pump class a few weeks ago. I loved it so much, I joined the gym that very same day. The staff are very friendly. I have a good friend who also wants to get fit,so she may end up joining too. Since joining I have been extremely busy, but I popped in last Friday and did 30 min on a treadmill.I really enjoyed it. The gym is clean and the staff are friendly and eager to help. If I attend the gym 2 or more times a week,then joining up is better value than paying casually. I'm very happy to have joined Goodlife,as I intend to get fit this year. I'm very lucky that there is a Goodlife in my suburb. There are a lot GoodLife of gyms in Australia so there's bound to be one near you. A very good investment,my health will be better, and at 51 I need to look after myself. I'm very satisfied with joining the GoodLife gym.

Positive experience: I have been a member of this gym for a while and I must say that I love here. Different classes are held at different times and the equipments of the gym are very good. The only problem is the cleanliness of the women's shower and toilet. I come to the gym almost every day and I see an example of these sights every day‍♀️ I know that members should care about cleaning after showering, but when they leave the toilet or shower like this, the club staff should check here regularly to know if it needs cleaning. To be fair the main salons of the gym are always clean. If the cleanliness issue is resolved I will definitely give a five star rating.

Positive experience: As someone who uses a gym mainly because I live in an apartment and there are issues with using treadmills, etc in that environment, my biggest issue is just that the cardio equipment (treadmills, bikes, ellipticals) is really starting to show its age. I understand that, after the tough COVID years, investing in capital equipment is hard, but it is really necessary. Treadmills are relatively narrow, there is no on-screen feedback, use resistive instead of capacitive touchscreens, etc. But the building is pleasant, the staff more or less leave you alone (my preference). However, if the cardio equipment isn't replaced by the end of the current FY, I won't be coming back.

Negative experience: Excellent trainers and a well-equipped facility are let down by unprofessional and unmotivated floor staff and management who react defensively when given constructive feedback or even just asked to replenish cleaning supplies, such that I now bring my own. Too frequently, the gym floor is untidy and the change rooms are unsanitary. If hygiene and cleanliness are important to you then give this place a miss.

Negative experience: General cleanliness and lack of social distancing in all areas is a concern especially as the virus is still prevalent and will continue to be for many months. Overcrowding in some Studio One classes is unacceptable and a potential Petrie dish for a virus outbreak and I doubt any members attending this gym will be willing to isolate after the nightmare of 272 days of lockdown. These issues do not reflect on the great instructors nor the benefits of being a member of a national gym.

Negative experience: Facilities are ok and there are lots of classes (some you have to pay quite a bit extra). Unfortunately management staff are extremely unprofessional, lacking in customer service skills. Cleanliness is a major concern esp with hairballs in corners and under equipments. Could be a COVID super spreader venue. There are a lot of other gyms that will provide better and cleaner services than this one.

Positive experience: Group fitness class instructors Sabrina and Tatiana are top notch and the best! Welcoming, energetic and great teachers. Staff is friendly but clueless. If there are issues with your membership, you'll need to figure out the solution by asking around members and different Goodlife outlets then tell them the required course of action. Gym is well equipped with floor space, a variety of classes and good sound system.

Positive experience: Decent gym with all required equipment. Can be busy at times. My usual club is in Ringwood and I visit this one intermittently. It's a bit of a mess here and equipment often laying around. Members and staff don't respect the club as much as I'm used to at Ringwood. Simple things like weight plates sorted by numbers makes it more convenient which is what I'm used to at Ringwood but perhaps it up to the staff to set the precedent for tidiness.

Fantastic experience: I love attending Group Fitness Classes at Goodlife and enjoy the variety of classes on offer. Goodlife has become part of my almost daily routine and the instructors are personable and love what they do.I would highly recommend it to anyone who is thinking of joining a gym.

Positive experience: Great gym but no customer service. I can never get through on the phone (rings out) and after leaving enquiries at reception on 3 occasions (as the person on the desk couldn't help me), I never heard back. I often walk in and the people behind the desk don't even acknowledge you or check that you're scanning in.

Negative experience: Restrictive contracts with unfair terms. This is a classic 90's gym, where the focus is on complex direct debit arrangements rather than just providing a good service so people want to stay. You ever want to leave? Hahah good luck, it'll cost you big $$$

Positive experience: Been coming to this gym for about 4 years now. Decided to cancel my membership in February as I was moving out of the area. However when I called them they failed to mention that they will take 4 more payments out of my account. Didn’t notice until end of March and when I called them up they just told me that my account was on a suspension and not cancelled as I needed to provide 30 days notice (which is the 4 extra payments) they then told me they can cancel it now and I will need to provide another 30 days. They just try to suck money out of you!!!

Negative experience: I went there to get more information about the joining process and fees. They don't let you think about anything. They just want to enroll you at the moment. I got several different quotes for membership. And they suggest me to negotiate about the price. I didn't feel good about there.

Positive experience: Great equipment at this 24/7 Goodlife, along with good parking both on and off street available. Biggest downfall is members who think gym towels are optional - particularly those using the weight equipment. Management and reception should be enforcing a no towel, no train policy. It's unhygienic , unhealthy, and ruin equipment from body oils and sweat. Management also needs to police the tailgaters entering the club after staffed hours. Members bring 2 or 3 mates in with them and other uninducted 24/7 members who say they've left their 24/7 card at home! Like most other Goodlife's, the PT's prefer to chat amongst themselves rather than build potential clients by interacting better with members.

Negative experience: Nice big gym with almost anything you'd need but the club doesn't enforce cleanliness enough and because of that it's one of the worst gyms I've trained at. Every morning without a doubt there will be mats, rollers, weights and more scattered throughout the gym.

Negative experience: Don’t sign up for this gym, rude service and they say they offer reformer Pilates but if you are not queing up half an hour before the class to fight over a token you won’t ever get into a class, I arrived hour hour before and still for the fourth time have not got a token! Front desk are rude and ignore you in favour of personal conversation with other staff. Classes cancelled and they don’t let people know until 15 minutes after the class was meant to start. Sick of this place treating me so poorly and wasting my time.

Positive experience: I have been a member from back when it was Recreation and not Goodlife. After years of being a member I went overseas for two years, came back and signed up again. I was given a great deal and the staff were super helpful and friendly (mind you this was years ago). Based on the negative reviews, I’ve never dealt with the sales lady mentioned but more so the manager and other reception staff. I believe the manager is Carlos.. I could be wrong but he has been nothing short of helpful and understanding with my membership. I had to suspend for hardship and he happily assisted me with this on more than one occasion with no hesitation. I also suspended due to surgery and once again no issues. It’s been so helpful and a relief to have the options available, I also sometimes bring along a friend and they’ve always been welcoming for them to join me for my workout with no pushy sales for them to sign up. The gym is definitely better since it’s been done up. My only issue was recreation used to have 5.45am spin classes and other times that worked better around work so would be nice to see Goodlife accommodate more around this feedback. Overall, love the classes and enjoy the atmosphere when working out. However, this role is customer focused so listen to feedback and provide training to staff so information is consistent. The 5 day free trial is a free trial, educate your staff to honour this and not push sales which pushes potential Goodlife gym goers away.

Negative experience: Wow, I am still shocked by the phone call I've just had with this gym in response to my online booking of my 5-day "free" trial, AS PROMISED and advertised everywhere on the website. I have never joined a gym before so was excited to do the trial and try as many classes as I could and also to see how it fitted in and around my work routine. A friend of mine, who lives in Glen Iris, and I (am 15m away from this gym) were going to do the trial together at this gym with the view to get the all-access membership once the trial was complete. However, we were both told by sales person Ella (Alla?) that we would need to sign up for membership and a trial period would be "incorporated into our membership." Sorry, what? That doesn't sound like a free trial to me. I was told I could try ONLY ONE class and then they'd HAVE to sign me up before I could "trial" more, and my friend was told she couldn't do any for free without signing up as she had been previously to the Armadale gym (only to look around!! she never actually did a trial here). Seriously confused and annoyed by all of this, I called Goodlife in Waverly Park (as it's close to my work) to inquire about the 5-day free trial there, where I was welcomed to try it. Very disappointed by the service from Glen Iris, and will certainly not be going there for a trial (or lack there of).

Negative experience: I was and am still looking for a gym in my neighbourhood. After a visit to Goodlife, I am sure that I will never return there. The facilities in the gym are fine, though the marketing- and sales strategy is incredibly pushy and rude. After receiving a 5 day pass to 'try out' the gym, I arrived with the expectation I could really try out the gym for 5 days and then decide if I wanted to become a member yes or no. When I arrived I got to know that I should first have had a consultation before even having the availability to work out. This is not stated in the email I received. I don't mind to have a chat, but there has to be clarity around that. Eventually, I was able to first do my work out, but to do so, I had to leave my jacket behind at the reception so they knew I would come back and have a 'chat'. After training I walked back and had a conversation with this sales girl. She was very pushy and told me that she could not give me the free 5 day pass if I was not sure if I wanted to train there for sure. What I could do though, was to provide her from all my information and have the first week training free. WHAT.!? She kept pushing and asking questions so I would directly sign a membership. I left and I will never come back.

Negative experience: Gym itself is ok. However, absolutely gutted when needed to cancel the membership due to house move after training there for 15 months. I rang the club a month in advance when decided to move as I was aware of the 30 days notice on the agreement, but the girl on the phone advised me the membership and direct debit can be terminated in the following week, and convinced me that I should cancel when closer to the day. I shouldn't have trusted the verbal confirmation as of course when I rang again recently to request to cancel, I was told there needs to be a 30 days notice. It's either their staff are poorly trained don't even know their own policy, or it was just a scam to get extra money from exiting members. Should have never trusted them . Disgusting business and hope you sleep tight with your scam money.

Negative experience: I had a terrible experience with the woman at the reception Ala, who also doubles up as their sales person. Had purchased a 30day trial membership from Local Fitness but she was almost forceful that I sign up straight away, or at agree to an appointment to listen to her sales pitch. Unbelievably rude when I mentioned to her I preferred she didn't keep calling me during work hours. The outer veneer of bring nice fell off and the cold vengeful side came out and threatened me with "I have the power to deny you access" if I didn't listen to her sales harangue. Very bad experience didn't go back after 3 times.
