Derrimut 24:7 Gym - Geelong

Negative experience: I signed up my two teens for gym memberships, but when they weren’t using them enough, I decided to cancel. Despite multiple attempts and filling out all the required cancellation forms, they’ve continued debiting my account—since August 2024. It’s now December 2024, and this issue remains unresolved. Not only has cancelling been a complete hassle, but they also managed to completely mess up my kids’ details, swapping their memberships with my own fully paid yearly membership. The whole situation has been a disaster. I’ll be contacting the appropriate ombudsman and blocking them through my bank, but I strongly advise anyone to think twice before trusting this gym with your bank details. This experience has been nothing but frustrating, and their customer service is appalling. Avoid at all costs!

Fantastic experience: LOVE the Reformer Pilates classes with Court & Georgia! They are amazing instructors & always so professional/passionate in their classes & their work! It’s a shame that classes will be cut back, given all classes are full/waitlist due to the popularity! Not only just a class at Derrimut, I’ve also created friendships with other members. It’s such a shame! If anything I thought more classes would be added! Keep up the awesome work Court & Georgia

Negative experience: Why does the Pilates class get cancelled all the time? It is happening way often than it should. Limited as it is and instructor continually non attending. Please review as it beyond a joke.

Positive experience: It is a good gym. The only problem is they don't repair the out of order equipment. I mentioned this a few times but machines and equipment have been out of order for a few months now.

Fantastic experience: I would like to give credit to the young man working Tuesday night overnight. He was very helpful setting up membership and he was happy to have a lovely conversation. I’ve also noticed that he works over the weekend during the night and always has the same energy and vibe. Will always greet you as you enter and will always say goodbye once you have finished your workout and he’s always happy to help with anything and any questions regarding the Gym

Fantastic experience: Love spending my free time at Derrimut

Positive experience: Really is a good gym with a lot of equipment, but I do recommend not going between 5pm -8pm it is packed and hard to get a good work out in with so many young teens taking over the equipment ,so you really can't plan your work out without waiting for free machines and equipment. I do recommend that if you have the time available to go after 8 pm by then, you'll be able to plan a good circuit to train and have plenty of machines and things available. overall, good gym . Staff are welcome, always greeting the members as they arrive and leave.

Negative experience: Place is very dirty and dusty, multiple machines broken for months on end in the ladies area. Every 2nd treadmill says no not run on it?? Toilets smell awful and lockers not accessible. What is my membership money getting used for???

Negative experience: Great gym, plenty of equipment, unfortunately lacks discipline in every aspect! Hygiene is none existent! The basic gym rule of, “no towel no train” none existent. Staff do not monitor patrons “whatsoever” weights & attachments are not placed in the correct place or racks. This is a basic Staff responsibility/duty, monitor the floor & inform patrons on doing the right thing, unfortunately Staff are just there to occupy front desk space. Such a shame. Won’t be renewing membership.

Negative experience: Internet should be included but it's not working Lockers are also not working or not accessible. Change room smells always bad like piss. Sauna doesn't get cleaned often either .

Positive experience: I have been a member for nearly 3 years, I've had a pretty good experience so far, some workers are pretty welcoming and friendly and others are not, has a lot of equipment that you need for a full-body work out....when they are functioning, there are currently a few cable machines that are out of order and have been for a few months now and the few that are working are being used by people who are using them for nearly an hour. The hygiene is horrible, there is only two cleaners who are working during the day and are doing the best they can for a very big gym, however they need more people to help or hire a few for the nightshifts as that is usually when it's absolutely filthy and don't even get me started on the toilets in the early hours of the morning before the cleaners begin working, this morning I went in there and two out of the three toilets are in order however one is covered in feaces and the other has blood on the floor. I wish my review was better but considering the memberships cost more than most in my area ( corio) at the time of me writing this review and the fact they have had deals for new memberships pretty frequently this year ( nearly twice a month ) they need to do better.

Negative experience: I am away overseas for 3 months and they wouldn't put my membership on hold because I paid in full. Even though I send them proof of not being in the country. They didn't reply to my 1st email so weeks later asked again. Also not many group classes which is what I wanted.

Negative experience: Got knocked back for only having a $20 note? Owner must be mega rich and doesn't need money anymore. Shame. Too many high brows anyway. Stick to the smaller less try hard gyms

Negative experience: I cannot believe that derrimutts corio have cancelled all group fitness classes for the remainder of the month, with no notice. These classes are the only reason I have a membership. Why would you bring in new equipment to then just cancel them. Not happy one bit!!!

Negative experience: How dissapointing to turn up to class and be told that there are no more this month. Will it be just this month, or a continuing thing. My membership is mostly used for these classes, as someone not overly confident in using gym equipment, there was something at the gym that was enjoyable to do, as well as feeling like something was achieved. Having just got a whole bunch of new gear for classes, one would think we would have more opportunities, more classes, not none of at. Extremely disspaointed that the gym had not given us any heads up, and told us as class started, no communication for gym management what so ever.

Negative experience: Absolutely disgusted with the lack of forethought and care for members and group x trainers. Derrimut have decided to cancel their classes for a month with absolutely no warning or explanation. I will be looking into other local options who value their patronage.

Fantastic experience: Seth is a legend. Plays best songs but does not do cardio.

Negative experience: Dud gym, they have a no workboot policy. I was finishing work and going to workout straight after work. Normally I would take a bag with my change of clothing including runners. But they stopped people walking in with boots and made people change to wearing sneakers. Only to get to the change room to change into get into your workout gear.

Positive experience: This gym has a lot of potential but it misses the mark in some areas. Here's my feedback and suggestions: Firstly, the dumbbell area is a complete mess. There is no order and sequencing with the dumbbells, which makes it difficult locating the weight that you need. Second, there is a shortage of secondary ancillary equipment. This includes things like clips to keep the weights in place on the barbell, waist belts for clipping additional weights when doing pull ups or dips etc, stools for aiding with grabbing the bars for pull ups and chin ups. To name a few. Third is to do with the location of some of the machines. The dip machine should be near dumbbells or other free weights, so that more weight could be easily added. I found myself having to walk across to the other end of the gym to grab a dumbbell to bring it back to the dip machine. And there should be weight belts to go with it. Finally, staff should have better knowledge and understanding of products on sale. For example, I asked the staff member serving protein smoothies about the type of whey protein that was being used ie whey concentrate, whey isolate etc. Neither of them had a clue. She went and checked the packet and just said it was a protein blend. Fair enough, but if she had bothered to read the ingredients it would have stated it clearly. Like I said, the gym has a lot of potential, but it but it needs some fine tuning.

Fantastic experience: Yeah good gym. Has everything you need. The place is clean and well maintained. Even in busy periods there is still plenty of equipment and space. Basketball court, sauna and boxing ring/ equipment is a massive bonus also compared to other gyms I’ve been to.

Negative experience: Installs a vending machine but still can't fix the toilets.... THEY ARE PUTRID!!! One working toilet for thousands of members is absolutely feral. Why remove all the toilets for lockers.... Never ending membership sale has the place packed at all times of the day. Needs an expansion to cope with the members. The place is neglected badly and machines are broken for 6 months + Very embarrassing to be a member and can't wait for it to expire. Obviously the money issues are true.

Fantastic experience: Fourth week with Derrimut Gym Corio, loads of quality equipment, does get busy at peak times but there is always available equipment. Haven't used the bathrooms so can't comment. They just opened the fresh juice area so that's a bonus. WiFi hasn't worked since joining, that needs fixing otherwise heaps of parking, friendly staff and new equipment.

Fantastic experience: Just returned to going to the gym after 7 years of neglect and chose derrimut due to the 24/7 staffed hours. After having a tour of the gym, I'm amazed how diverse the gym is for the price. The atmosphere is very welcoming and friendly. Nothing is intimidating with people of all shapes and sizes having a go at it. Even during their busiest hours, I've never had trouble finding a spare squat rack to workout in. The sauna is great. I've never used one before, and a few tips from other members in it have been great. I like the bike racks outfront under the cameras and having a staff member in earshot. I hope it detours theives from any angle grinder attacks. I'm looking forward to the new coffee station coming soon.

Negative experience: I would suggest having working TV's in the female area part, after being redone you would think the TV's would now work but no! Also you offer Reformer with no weekend classes, hardly any evening classes yet the other two gyms with reformer offer heaps more. Whycan you not get a trainer with availability. We are paying, but we are accommodating the instructor availability. So wrong!!

Shame pilates instructor is currently on annual leave, can still access it though I'm told to use the videos and DIY it! Fair amount of class options. Keen to use the sauna and awaiting the plunge pools Ladies room is fantastic for more privacy and less people haha Although a fair amount of the lockers in the bathroom are broken unfortunately. There doesn't seem to be an exercise ball for one of the exercises I'm supposed to do though which is a shame

Negative experience: I went to the gym in the morning for an early work out on Anzac day but the gym is closed and no one is there and I can't get inside. No instructions where to go or how to get in. I called 2x but nobody answered. I was on the impression this is 24hrs gym, 365 days as advertised but it was a disappoinment.

Fantastic experience: Excellent new equipment, well maintained. Very fair yearly fee includes access to all areas.

Negative experience: UPDATE: classes have been cancelled with no warning or communication. Can't seem to get in contact with anyone. Poor form and very unprofessional. Derrimut's is great if you're looking for value. There's a massive range of equipment to choose from but it is often very busy and can be messy and cluttered. The classes are good fun.

Positive experience: Derrimut Corio is newly refurbished. It looks amazing. Reformer pilates classes are part of the membership which is great.

Negative experience: one of the worst systems ever... you cant change your account, derrimut gym members cant help you for anything, everything has to go to another team and crazy part is if your amount is deducted for bi-weekly membership and your account cancelled after deduction, you wont be getting any refund on the amount deducted and neither you cant access the gym for rest of the week. Crazy rules and crazy system...I will never ever return to this place again.

Negative experience: Derrimut gym corio is abit of a joke lately. How long do renovations take? They have been going since October 2022 and still going. In this time the whole cardio section has been blocked off and we are all crammed into the weights section. Rather than having 20+ treadmills and 20+ cross trainers to work with we now only have about 5 of each which is not enough. I am someone who does my gym session before work so early in the morning and although it’s usually a busy time it doesn’t matter because the gym has more than enough equipment for everyone. Now I don’t even bother going because every time I do all 5 treadmills and cross trainers are being used as well as the 2 exercise bikes we now only have. I went for the first time in over 5 weeks today hoping the cardio section would be open again and it was not. And it looks like there has been next to nothing actually done since I last went 5 weeks ago. Seriously considering cancelling my membership and going elsewhere. I know Newcomb is open and I could go there but I live 1 minute from the corio gym. Why would I drive all the way out to Newcomb and back for a work out just because corio can’t seem to finish some renovations after nearly 12 weeks. Pathetic.

Negative experience: Staff members are friendly and helpful. However, so many equipments aren’t working. The facility is old and not well maintained. Very disappointed. If you’re looking for a gym to sign up, Derrimut is a good franchise but not the Corio one. Hopefully the renovation will fix all these issues up.

Fantastic experience: I have a home gym, but like to do a casual visit to a gym every now and then. This gym is best in region in terms of scope of equipment. If you are in town and need a gym, this is the place. Lots of racks, dumbbells are present. Enough machines to hit any isolations you want as well.

Negative experience: If you thinking of to signup keep in mind they will never put your account on hold or cancel if your circumstances change. If you get injured or sick they will still take money out of your account for two years or more. I got shoulder injury and I provided medical certificate still they don’t wanna to cancel my membership.I have not been to gym for months already and they keep charging me. They manger at Geelong corio branch told me they will only cancel membership If someone is dying. That’s how they treat members. I already lodged complaint at consumer affairs. I’ll never go Derrimut gym again and never recommend.

Negative experience: Been a member for about 4 years. There were loads of classes running when I joined, full timetable all day every day. Fast forward 4 years and classes have been cut and cancelled with no communication to members via the dedicated Derrimut Corio group fitness Facebook page, there has been no communication since 31st May. Members turning up for a class to be told it was cancelled and given no explanation, blamed the manager for not telling them it was cancelled and to post it on Facebook. Rang up today to ask about tonight (Monday) and was told it was cancelled, the only class running this week is on Thursday… one class for the week… absolutely pitiful. Group fitness timetable has been reduced to 6 or less classes each week, suspect more will get cut. There are available instructors and plenty of interest and decent attendance numbers, instructor said it is head office cutting and cancelling classes. Newcomb no longer has group fitness and it looks like Corio is heading in that direction. Considering canceling my membership and go to a different gym if that happens. The other Derrimut gyms have full timetables with more classes, class variety and times. Lift your game and give us back our group fitness with timetables like the Melbourne Derrimut gyms.
