Our comment from FitFit Australia about North Sydney Olympic Pool:
The North Sydney Olympic Pool, located right under the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge, is a popular destination for both locals and tourists. While the facility has a unique charm, many visitors express concerns about its current state. The pool is known for its breathtaking views and picturesque surroundings, making it a fantastic spot for a refreshing swim.
Some of the highlights include:
- Amazing Views: Enjoy stunning sights of the Harbour Bridge and Luna Park while swimming.
- Great Location: The pool is easily accessible by public transport, making it convenient for visitors.
- Clean Facilities: Many guests appreciate the cleanliness of the pool and surrounding areas, contributing to an enjoyable experience.
- Saltwater Pool: The outdoor pool offers a unique experience with saltwater, which some swimmers find refreshing.
However, there are also some areas for improvement:
- Many users have remarked that the changing rooms and facilities feel outdated and could use a renovation.
- Shower tokens for warm water are an extra charge, which some visitors find disappointing.
- The high salt content of the water has also been a common concern among swimmers.
- Customer service experiences are mixed, with some guests mentioning unfriendly staff members.
Despite these issues, the North Sydney Olympic Pool remains a beloved destination for swim enthusiasts. With hopes of future renovations, many are excited to see how this iconic location evolves while maintaining its vintage appeal.
North Sydney Olympic Pool: Opinions
Negative experience: When is this reopening This timeframe is ridiculous.
Fantastic experience: Another one of my favorite pools in Sydney.
Negative experience: A matter of shameful corruption that this once beautiful public pool was taken apart and has still not been put back together again after years of “redevelopment”. This has been a lucrative rort for the builders and tradies involved and yet another typically corrupt rort of the previous state government. Disgraceful.
Fantastic experience: This is one of my favourite pools in Sydney, mostly because of the prime location right under Sydney Harbour Bridge. The water is VERY salty, so make sure you don't wear any jewellery or it will tarnish (learned that the hard way). The change rooms are basic, but very large, with lockers to store your clothes while you swim. Don't forget to buy a shower token when you enter so you can enjoy a warm shower at the end!
Fantastic experience: Learnt to swim here 70 years ago.A wonderful place for kids in those days. The diving platform isn't there now, however it was great to jump and dive ftom.Great memories. .
Fantastic experience: picturesque
Positive experience: Worth visiting bc it has a great view on the city. Perhaps facilities can be improved
Negative experience: Good, friendly staff, incredible view, but the facility is old, ugly and decrepit and seems to have its own special rules - no paddles allowed for example, and unlike CoS pools and Inner West has a ticketing system during COVID. Charging extra for showers with a token system is archaic. Looking forward to when it's torn down and rebuilt.
Fantastic experience: Nice clean pool, a lot of nearby food shops and dining areas. Amazing view over the harbour and in great location.
Fantastic experience: Nice clean pool, a lot of nearby food shops and dining areas.
Fantastic experience: Awesome pool with fresh saltwater and a very kind reception lady
Fantastic experience: Love this pool. So glad it's open again
Fantastic experience: It doesn’t get much better than the North Sydney Olympic Pool when it comes to outdoor Olympic pools. Looking forward to coming back when it reopens again in 2 years time after the extensive renovations.
Fantastic experience: Wonderful. An must in Sydney. Its a local pool that anyone can enjoy. Swimming Pools Adult $8.50 Child (5yrs+ or attending primary/secondary school) $4.30
Fantastic experience: Amazing location and view You can’t beat a view like this and enjoying an outdoor refreshing swim.
Positive experience:
Fantastic experience: NORTH SYDNEY, A PLACE TO BE
Fantastic experience: Nice experience
Positive experience: Happening place
Negative experience: Not rural enough *shade*.
Positive experience: This place is good in terms of space and the number of lanes
Positive experience: They let you have a lane during Covid. They will be doing renovations sadly so out of action for a good few seasons.
Positive experience: Great location and view. However the entry is relatively expensive, in top of that the showers cost extra. The water is too salty. It seems to be more than sal, seems to have some chemicals in it also. My mother in laws silver jewellery which she wears 24/7 (even in the ocean a few times a week) was all brassy and oxidised when we got out. Go for the experience but dont expect to have a particularly nice swim.
Positive experience: I like to come here often and swim outdoors cos it kinda feels like you're at the beach. The water is not too salty and usually quite clean. The whole pool and change room area is super outdated but they are doing renos soon. But BE WARNED, the hot shower tokens often do NOT work - and they will not give you another one unless you let the staff know ON THE SAME DAY (even if you let them know the next day or next time you visit)!!!
Positive experience: No doubt an iconic location, would love to swim again but after my first experience today won't be using the outdoor pool again. There is something wrong with the water treatment, it's got a strong unpleasant taste of salt. I got out after a short while and swam in the upstairs indoor 25m pool. The water in this pool is good for an indoor pool as an alternative to the 50m outdoor.
Fantastic experience: Scenic AF.
Fantastic experience: The view rain or shine makes it all worth it!
Fantastic experience: Clean pool, with one of the best views in the world. Not too expensive, and worth every dollar! Goggles are a must. Really nice place for a swim!
Fantastic experience: My favourite pool in Sydney. Indoor and outdoor pool with beautiful view. They got spa, sauna, and gym too
Fantastic experience: Very nice place to visit. Pools are clean. It’s great to seim and do sports. Outstanding views to the Harbour Bridge. One of my favorite places to swim in. It’s also great to meet with friends. It’s very convenient location.
Fantastic experience: Perfect location
Fantastic experience: Large pool, with one of the best views in the world. The facilities are clean it's not too expensive given the location. Great place for a few laps!
Fantastic experience: Great pool by the bridge, what more could you ask for?
Fantastic experience: World's best Swimming Pool with the best view. Luna Park ticket gets free entry.
Fantastic experience: Extreamly good extremely rural pool. Good to know this rural Australian icon will be getting redeveloped. All us Aussie rural farmers are delighted. Not nearly as crowded or popular as those inner city pools with views of the harbour and the city. Nope this is truly rural.
Positive experience: Tuyệt, very good
Staff soweit in Ordnung. Geht lieber an den Strand (Manlybeach).
Positive experience: Great location for a swim and coffee after dinner
Fantastic experience: Best pool in Sydney..
Positive experience: Not that busy on a wednesday.
Fantastic experience: Excellent pool!
Positive experience: Great place to hang
Positive experience: Clean, accessible and an outstanding view! Worth checking out
Positive experience: pool is fantastic but some staffs are rude
Positive experience: very nice view place , close to luna park
Positive experience: An iconic site, but it needs the planned refurbishment.
Positive experience: The 50m pool burns all my families eyes we normally have no issue at our local pool so this struck me as odd
Negative experience: I'm a swimmer and this is the worst pool I've ever been to. Awful changing rooms, expensive and the salt/chlorine mix is terrible. It's not a bad view though. Go to Prince Alfred or the ABC.
Positive experience: Wonderful pool(s) and gym with one of the finest viewpoints of Sydney possible, simply world class. Perfect for summertime fun enthusiasts or serious exercisers!
Negative experience: This is truly the worst pool i have ever swam in. The staff are the most rude people i have ever encountered. I even saw cockroaches in the changing room + the water is a distinguishing (chlorine and sea water mix) - I suggest you avoid this place. You have been warned!
Positive experience: Really enjoyed my swim here today. Two minors complaints that I think could be easily sorted - the loungers on the top deck were all a little dirty and could do with cleaning and second is that some parasols or umbrellas would be good on the sun deck for a bit of shade as there isnt much shade even by the pool.
Positive experience: Great pool, if you're a swimmer and visiting Sydney this is a MUST. Super clean and not busy at the time I went. Most people had good pool etiquette. Average change rooms and you have to pay for a warm shower. The blaring music from water aerobics was also a disappointment.
Positive experience: Pool with a great view! Can get crowded in the summer. The saltwater pool stings your eyes though. Has a relaxing feel despite being so close to the city.
Positive experience: First of all, great location! Big and clean pool, separated lanes for beginners and experts. You will find lockers where you can keep your things and changing rooms. As disadvantage i will say that 20$ for entrance are a bit much, especially if you think that shower is not free.
Fantastic experience: So lucky to have an awesome pool like this in north sydney. Its so accessible and the pool is always well cleaned. Great place to enjoy and exercise
Fantastic experience: Excellent swimming pool for all kind of different speeds. Good access via public transport through Milson Point station. Other swimmers are kind and pick lanes according to their speed level. Can get crowded after 5pm though.
Fantastic experience: At 1pm I expected the pool to be crowded but had a (slow) lane mostly to myself. As others have said, the location is iconic, the buildings are heritage (and run down) and the water is salty and warm. Only two out of 9 lanes required continuous swimming. There’s a buzz of activity from the runners going by, the trains overhead, and the eateries which overlook the pool and which cater from snacks to fine dining.
Fantastic experience: It’s a great pool to visit if you haven’t been here before, the 50 m pool is old and efforts have been made to upgrade but it’s an old pool but it’s at an amazing location, views at dusk are incredible. There is also a modern indoor pool if it gets too cold/windy for some people.
Fantastic experience: Location and old school feel. I hope it never changes!
Fantastic experience: Perfect place for a guy like me who's into swimming. Great place, clean pool and cool staff. Everything's great!
Fantastic experience: Such an epic pool to swim in, still has the old late 1930's look, 50 metre pool kept at 25 degrees is salt water mixed with chloride. View of the bridge is absolutely stunning, don't think there is another Olympic size pool anywhere with a view like that. As a tourist a must visit if you like swimming, easy to walk the bridge after and visit the Rocks. -- Find my review helpful? Please click like / much appreciated --
Fantastic experience: Great pool! Accessible for everyone and not too expensive. Has one of my favourite views of the harbour bridge plus the staff were lovely. I highly recommend bringing goggles or buying some at the office there though because of the water. I mistakenly tried swimming without them and boy did I regret that. Beautiful place for a swim though!
Fantastic experience: I love this pool. Great location and facilities
Fantastic experience: I love North Sydney Olympic pool. It is always bright and the open air roofless feature is awesome. It is well managed with excellent lifeguards, clean amenities and excellent views of Sydney Harbour too. Great grand stand to view events from. Top parking available also.
Fantastic experience: Great place to stretch my bones and muscles! So much space to go around. They're consistently cleaning the pool and life guards always on duty. Great service
Fantastic experience: Amazing views, top pool and lovely lifeguards. Pleasure to swim here!
Fantastic experience: Amazing View, Amazing Pool, Amazing place. Half day must spend at least. Very easy to access thru Milson's Point Station. No car park, except on public streets. Cost for 1 hour is $5 and maximum2 hrs. Expensive restaurant inside. Close by beautiful park under Harbour Bridge. Near by Bar, Restaurants and eateries. Prices moderate. Make sure you ask for upstairs lockers NOT near the pool. Extra 0.50c for hot water.
Fantastic experience: I totally loved this pool! Amazing views and the water was fantastic. Other swimmers were considerate making it easy. No better place to do laps in than this
Fantastic experience: Really good value and worth a visit. For about $13 you can swim in two pools heated to 25 degrees, a saltwater pool outside and an indoor chlorinated one, as well as relax in a sauna and a spa (jacuzzi). The view is spectacular. Afterwards you can take a short walk through Luna Park to Wendy's Secret Garden and have an enjoyable afternoon.
Fantastic experience:
What a better place:) It was great to be right in front of the Harbour Bridge, Luna Park, and Ferry . What surprised me about Australia, the swimming pool was the ocean water!
Fantastic experience: I love this pool
Positive experience: Great view. Didn't feel welcomed by the reception girl. The rest staff are respectful.
Positive experience: Salt water, so didn't like the taste. Lockers are very out-dated and charged as an extra. You have to clip a hair pin to your speedos. I suggest taking Prahran Pool's lead on free pin-code lockers.
Positive experience: Easy to reach by train, bus, ferry or private vehicle.Located beside Luna Park, next to Sydney Harbour Bridge and Milsons Point ferry wharf.Spectacular scenery of the harbour bridge.Entrance fees are a little bit expensive.Sufficient facilities and a comfortable pool to swim in.The pool water is quite salty though.Worth visiting if you love swimming.
Positive experience: The view alone is worth the entry fees, equipments are well maintained.
Negative experience: Nice spot. Pity they still wanted to charge me full price when the outside pool was closed! Staff member was rude when I queried this, as if saying so what! Apparently the pool, which was the reason I came, has no value. So I left.
Negative experience: Historic with a second to nothing view of the harbour bridge but falling apart, finicky processes such as paying for individual showers with tokins only available from reception and certainly the rankest, most disgustingly salty water I’ve ever swam in - I could feel all the sores on my body stinging the whole time. Pay about $3 and just sit about and look at the view - swimming not recommended.
Positive experience: What a find - amazing view of the harbour, wonderful public pool, sun lounge area and building architectural details. The bathrooms are original but that just adds to the charm. A soul soothing, happy afternoon in the sun. There's a kiosk there selling pies, chips, ice creams etc
Positive experience: The water is salty, as with other reviews. Showers should be free. Bathrooms are dark and dated and needs a refurbishment. Some parts are dirty and a slip hazard. Entry fee is way too high for what it is. Nice location though.
Negative experience: Location is obviously great, but other than that it's horrible. Staff is rude. The place is a complete rip off, on top of the entrance fee they charge you 2,50 for lockers (+deposit), they even try to charge for showers (!!!). Yes, you are supposed to pay for SHOWERS!! Obviously no one does, so everybody just goes in unshowered dripping in sunscreen, which is disgusting. To make the desaster perfect it's a salt water pool and the water is way too hot for swimming
Negative experience: I’ve been a swimmer for a significant portion of my life so I’ve visited many pools over the years. This is one of the worst pools I’ve ever been to. The iconic location is where the positives end. The outdoor pool has the most disgusting salt water I have ever come across in my life. It felt awful on my skin and tasted terrible. The facilities are very old and outdated. It is unreasonable to charge extra for a shower especially considering the change rooms are so run down. The lifeguards were completely unreasonable to me when I was training so I won’t be coming back. Firstly the lifeguard had an issue with me using hand paddles. I was not impressed given they are an important part of training. It made no sense given there was no one else in the lane and no other pool has ever said this to me before. Secondly I was moved from the fast lane because I wasn’t swimming “continuously.” This was insulting and ridiculous. I stopped because I was doing a set of 100m Freestyles on a 1 minute 40 second time cycle, how on earth does that 15 second rest mean I’m not swimming continuously? Utterly ridiculous considering I was the fastest swimmer in the pool and train to race competitively.
Negative experience: Staff not helpful and not friendly. In sauna, people constantly go in and out, so it doesn't have a chance to heat up properly. And it smells chlorine, not sauna. You have to pay extra for the locker and even for hot water in the shower. The latter is just insane! Come on! In Wollongong, they have hot water in a FREE public pool! And this pool charges even more than most of the other pools! So they don't have hot water, but you know what they DO have? A button operated door. Which you can open from both sides. Using two different buttons. That absolute necsssity they do have. Seriously, I don't understand how the majority of other pools go without such essential thing. But probably all the extra posh patrons that seem to be the majority here are just too good for old-fashioned hand operated doors.
Positive experience: Obviously great view! Good location and clean indoor/outdoor pools
Negative experience: Staff rude. Girl at front couldn’t even crack a smile. Sorry maybe I’m old fashioned but I believe customer service should start with a smile!!!! Cafe seems outdated, we are about to enter the year 2018... please rethink your options for food... not sustainable. Didn’t eat anything because nothing there I would eat. Coffee was not bad. Some of the chairs on the top deck are broken. Maybe you should fix? Purchase some updated chairs? Charging $8 for an adult to visit, yet chairs are broken or don’t work as expected. Little kids were allowed to run around like crazy on the top deck as well? Where is the respect? I see that parents are responsible for their kids, but the staff could have also ask them to stop. Personally, can’t see how I would spend another dollar going into that pool when we live in a city with beaches.. but I am glad I went and experienced it (as I live so close by), but I think one experience is enough for me!
Positive experience: The view is wonderful and the access is very easy with train! It is next to Luna Park so you can visit both places on the same day. The price is good, there are lifeguards in the pool and an area with tables and chairs for meals.
Fantastic experience: really nice to swim in after a day in lunar park
Fantastic experience: Not many public pools have such a cool view. It's easy to do another length of backstroke when you're looking up at Sydney Harbour bridge in the sun. A large half salt / fresh water pool & small heated upstairs freshwater pool with jacuzzi and sauna. Non-members welcome worth a visit if you're a tourist that loves a swim.
Fantastic experience: Swimming pool complex with great views of the Sydney Harbor Bridge
Fantastic experience: The big outdoor pool is a saline pool, which has a different feel than chorine, and won't eat away at your swimsuit/pool gear. The lifesavers are professional and friendly. I was asked not to use paddles while swimming; I guess they've had people hit by them before, so they play it safe. To Americans: The swimming here is clockwise, not counter-clockwise, so stay left!
Fantastic experience: Great views and best pool in this area
Fantastic experience: Iconic pool with a view to the Sydney Harbour bridge and the Opera house.
Fantastic experience: Great pool and even better view of the harbour
Fantastic experience: An Australian classic. Right on Sydney Harbour, great view of the Bridge, big saltwater swimming pool. Love they've kept the original (daggy) feel.
Fantastic experience: Ihan paras vaikka en oo ees käyny
Fantastic experience: Best place for a swim
