Our comment from FitFit Australia about Richmond Recreation Centre:
Richmond Recreation Centre is a fantastic facility located in Richmond, Australia, catering to users of all ages. It features a grand 50-meter lap pool, well-maintained and complemented by a clean gym and a variety of classes, including popular sessions like Bodypump and Body Combat. The center is known for its friendly and helpful staff, making each visit enjoyable.
Key highlights include:
- Clean and accessible pool with designated lanes for various swimming abilities.
- Excellent spa, sauna, and steam room facilities.
- Reasonable pricing and plentiful parking options.
- Regular classes and fitness programs appealing to all fitness levels.
However, some guests have experienced issues related to cleanliness and temperature control in showers and saunas. A few concerns were raised regarding the management of facility access and lost property communication. Despite these setbacks, visitors appreciate the welcoming environment and the overall value of membership, especially with the variety of activities and facilities available for families and individuals alike.
Overall, the Richmond Recreation Centre stands out as a prime spot for recreational activities, ensuring a wholesome experience for all who visit.
Richmond Recreation Centre: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Great for all ages. Very friendly.
Fantastic experience: Nice clean pool in Richmond. The staff are friendly and the pool is well kept. The lane availability is available online and there's plenty of parking around. The price is reasonable too.
Thanks for your review Emmanuelle. So happy to hear you've enjoyed visiting us at Richmond Recreation Centre.
Negative experience: Terrible experience with Richmond Rec Centre. I was a member for 1 year before I had all my belongings stolen from their venue from a non-member who reception had let in off the street. Long story short, I was told from their management team that as they are a council facility they are obligated to let anyone in off the street if they request to use the bathroom, which I was shocked to hear. So, bad luck for me essentially. They handled the situation terribly and offered me little to no empathy. I have since cancelled my membership, but thought this should be shared to avoid this happening to anyone else.
Fantastic experience: Great gym with lots of facilities and classes! Manny @Bodypump class is the best!!!✅
Thanks so much for your review Maria!
Fantastic experience: L iyes
Negative experience: Can't use fitness passport, works at other council pools.
Positive experience: Nice pool! For 8 AUD you get in and can swim as much as you want. There are lanes for slow swimmer, medium and fast. The changing room are clean. All equipment works fine. It would be nice if they could provide towels and swim caps in case guests forget. They are also replying mail if you ask for information. Easy to reach with public transportation. Will go back when in Melbourne.
Hi Richard, thanks so much for your review! We're glad you enjoyed your visit.
Fantastic experience: Excellent and clean facilities that include a 50m lap pool, dry sauna, steam room, full gym and a dedicate circuit training room. There are two kids wading/ shallow play pools also. The staff are friendly and helpful.
Negative experience: Went here on Saturday for a swim in the afternoon. The pool was a little chilly but I did my laps looking forward to a hot shower after to warm up. Tried 2 different showers and they were both freezing cold, so I just got dressed and went home for a shower. When I spoke to reception and the manager about this, they both basically said, there are often problems with the temperature of the showers and its just bad luck. "We will try to get them fixed". Why would I go back???
Hi Ross, we're so sorry to hear about your negative experience with our showers. Please consider sending us an email to [email protected] to share your experience with our team.
Fantastic experience: Never been to Australia but i can tell this place is Goated
Positive experience: Standard government issue aquatic centre. 50m swimming pool, steam room, sauna and gym
Fantastic experience: I’ve been coming here casually for a few weeks and decided I’d sign up for a membership to the pool. The sign up process was completely clear and reasonable and easy to do. I really enjoy the pool and the sauna, and the change rooms are always nice and clean. I really enjoy coming here for my morning swims.
Thanks for your review Rory. Great to hear!
Positive experience: Really good facilities, friendly staff and well managed, mostly very clean and competitively priced. I mainly go for therapy in the sauna, steam & spa facilities. For experienced users, these are not quite hot enough, but they do the job. However, other sauna/steam users that constantly come in, stay for 2 minutes, complain it's not hot and then leave, is really annoying, as they are actively dropping the heat with this behavior. (Note to these people: it takes a minimum of 10-15 minutes of exposure to get any health benefits. Just be patient!) Maybe management could put up some signage explaining sauna courtesy. The change room showers are also not ideal, being too cramped, sometimes dirty and often no hot water. I avoid them and save my thorough shower for home. Despite these complaints, it's a great place and I always leave feeling better.
Positive experience: Liked it
Fantastic experience: Awesome facilities and helpful staff.
Thank you for your review!
Positive experience: Good facilities, wish the pool was a couple of degrees warmer though. Prices keep increasing.
Thank you for leaving a review!
Negative experience: The management and staffs are kind but not organized The people from swimming pool kept coming to dry change room But when I reported to a female staff at the counter Just laughed and said there is nothing she can do Very unorganized
Hi there, we are sorry to hear about your experience. Would you mind sending us an email to [email protected] with more details?
Positive experience: Richmond Recreational Center. Located in Richmond. Memberships Available. First Last Name. Mobile Phone Number. Identification; Proof of Age Card. License. Passport. Information is sighted and returned. In the Foyer; they sell items; Swimming Bathers. Goggles. Towels. Water. Pool is 50 meters. Long. Several Swimming Lans, Slow, Medium and fast Swimming Speeds. Also a lane for no Lans swimming, used for Aqua sports, relaxing, using floating devices. Or Walking in water. On Left side a Children's Pool. The Left Side has Sauna, Steam Room, Treatment Room. The back has a studio room with exercises equipment. On the Left and right side of center are stands to seat and watch people swimming. On the Right Side of Building are the Male and Female Change Rooms. Lockers are within view of Swimming Pool. To lock the locker door you require a tag provided by the Richmond Swimming Pool Staff. There are life savers / swimming Safety instructors patrolling the Swimming Pool. Inside the Men's Room there is a devices where you can place in you bathers and it will wring out the water out of bathers. Instruction are available above machine. Clocks are available at both ends of the swimming pool.
Positive experience: 1 terrible staff member in the gymnasium very nice manager who listen to my complaint and took me seriously the pool tiles all around the pool a filthy dirty as is the floor around the pool my locker rooms out ok the water temperature is way too high 4 lap swimming also if it was dropped 2degrees it was so tens of thousands of dollars a year in gas I give the staff four out of five stars can I give the premises
Fantastic experience: Richmond Recreation Centre claims to be Melbourne’s oldest indoor 50m pool, with the pool itself dating from the late 19th Century and the vast domed building from the 1930s. It has aged gracefully and is one of my favourite pools in Melbourne. The pool area is beautiful and anyone who appreciates art deco architecture will find themselves in awe. The pool is clean, clear, and just the right temperature, the facilities are all top notch (it is the only Yarra Leisure centre to have decently-sized change rooms), and the staff are fantastic. An easy five stars.
Thanks William. We are pleased to hear you appreciate our heritage. See you on pool deck soon!
Positive experience: Usually a fairly decent spot with adequate facilities, but today was an exception. Sat in the lukewarm sauna for over twenty minutes before advising a staff member it wasn’t working, after following up on this I was told the “sauna had completely stopped working” and was sitting at “35 degrees, it should be at 70 degrees” but it had been fixed and the temperature should “get back to 70 degrees…. By the the time we close” I asked to get a free pass for the next time I came back half jokingly and was advised to use the steam room or spa, both of which I hate to step inside. So paid $15 to sit in a sauna that wasn’t even working and had to leave by the time it was up and running again. Which it wasn’t, it was still freezing by the time time we had to get out.
Negative experience: 2 stars because the availability of resources is actually quite good. No more than that because the front desk staff are poorly managed, lack basic prioritisation skills, have no understanding of how to maintain service levels during busy times, and generally have little focus on the basics of customer service. Also, the swim lessons for kids are a calamity of monotony. Kids are moved up and down levels with little understanding themselves of why it happens. Generally seems like the assessors are different everytime, but lack synergy as a team to deliver any feedback which is to the detriment of the kids. You could ask the same question on what is the focus required on 3 seperate weeks and get 3 seperate responses. The care factor in delivering on a paid service is lacking. Most lessons seem to be the act of going through the motions (wash, rinse, repeat) with no focus on improvement where needed. You'd be better in the long run to hire private teachers for your kids. The extra money per lesson minimal over time as they would be more likely to actually improve.
Hi Jamie, thanks for your feedback. Could you please send us an email to [email protected] with your experiences at reception and in our Swim School? Thanks.
Positive experience: Really good spa, sauna & steam room areas. The main pool, which is 50 metres long is really cold to the point I couldn't even get in the pool at all due to how cold it was. This has happened multiple times I've been here. Other than that, it's really good here & I do recommend trying out the spa, sauna & steam room. This place is also wheelchair accessible as well.
Positive experience: This is a review for parents. Went for a mid winter swim with my four year old. The water in the kids pool was too cold for us to stay in for more than 15 minutes, the pool is very small and shallow. The showers on the other hand, we’re grrreat!! Hot, strong, we’ll appointed (bathers dryer, hair dryer) and lovely and clean. I’m sure in summer it’s great all round.
Fantastic experience: Great facilities, very clean and friendly staff!
Thanks so much for your review James!
Fantastic experience: Good facilities, wish the pool was a couple of degrees warmer though.
Fantastic experience: I love the jacuzzi. It has the most powerful water Jets I have seen so far. just like the Fitzroy pool, there is both a steam and a dry sauna. The pool is a good size as well. Overall a great experience!
Fantastic experience: Best. Pool. Ever. Please don't close again, missed you during lockdown.
Thanks for your review Jhon, we appreciate it!
Positive experience: Decent pool, average facilities. Changing room somewhat old fashioned and small.
Fantastic experience: I swum here for at least 10 years. Extremely good culture with great staff. The indoor pool is great to swim in as the humidity isn't high. Great for colder weather. One of the best indoor pools in Melbourne.
Fantastic experience: It's great to be back and the new machines are amazing combined with super friendly staff
Thanks Greg it's great to have you back and we're glad you're loving our new equipment!
Fantastic experience: That is a great facility and will continue to work on my fitness in the pool. It is great to swim in and the water is great too. Not too cold and not too hot either and good customer service
Thanks for your review Rohan, we really appreciate it!
Fantastic experience: Best indoor pool
Fantastic experience: Think the roof was an old aircraft hanger. Friendly staff in the heart of Richmond.
Thanks for your review Jarad!
Fantastic experience: Great 50 meter pool and great steam/spa. Very clean
Thanks for your review Vika!
Fantastic experience: They have lovely staffs and great place, swimming for around 7$ is a great deal.
Thanks for leaving us a review Teddy!
Fantastic experience: My favourite pool. Not only is it indoors (goodbye, sun damage!) but I've also found it doesn't get super busy during peak times like other nearby pools like Stonnington Aquatic or Harold Holt. I also really appreciate that they always have a slow lane open. It takes a lot of the pressure off new swimmers like me! Staff can be a little inconsistent (a girl at the desk tried to charge me for a locker the other day, when the rest of the time I haven't been charged) but other than that, it's a fantastic pool and I'll keep going. As long as those lockers stay free!
Fantastic experience: The Body Combat class with the Roy got me out of my slump and back into exercising. It is a fun and challenging class with an amazing energetic instructor! After going for awhile I joined as a member and have been using other facilities too.
So great to hear that Adele, thanks for your review!
Fantastic experience: A fantastic place for everyone to have fun and learn. Thank you to the staff for being so welcoming!
Fantastic experience: A huge thank you to Tina and Xavier! Great gym great support.
Fantastic experience: Best. Pool. Ever. Please don't close again, missed you during lockdown.
Negative experience: It would have been great if woman's have separate steam room and sauna
Positive experience: A bit manky and in need of a refresh. Decent sized pool and great sauna though.
Negative experience: I find the whole place is run down and too old..can do with a big renovation..the bottom of the pool is quite dirty n rusty..need to b more spacious...everything feels tooo squashed and too close...water temperature can be more warmer..need a big digital clock with seconds running for people who wants timed laps..bigger pool and play equipments for the kids..apart from these..i love the shower n free shampoo dispenser n the wet clothes drying machine..
Positive experience: I go there from preference even though it takes me 45 minutes. Full sized pool, lots of space as not too many people there, cheaper than competitors. Main gripe is that it is so hard to ring them about lost property or anything else. You have to go through hopeless privatised Yarra Leisure who just puts you on hold and you never get through. Just give us the number, sack the middle men.
Negative experience: I honestly feel that women should be given a discounted rate because we can't utilise the facilities and the equipment to the same benefit that the men can. The gym equipment is mostly for men, the sauna and steam room is always full of men, which can be incredibly daunting as a small female when you walk in there and six older males are all staring at you with their legs spread open taking up half the bench. Best to avoid. For this reason I give it 2 stars.
Positive experience: You get decent value for your Yarra membership and the staff are friendly. But the floor space for stretching and core exercises is small so there is a premium on space. Which makes it feel like a slap in the face when it gets taken over for personal training sessions or classes when there is a far larger room dedicated for classes that is closed. I mean, they don't kick everyone off the exercise bikes to make way for a mini spin class because they have a dedicated room for that? And they need a sign in the steam room saying not to fill the jerrycan up with chlorinated pool water. Possibly even on the jerrycan itself because people don't seem to know the difference.
Fantastic experience: A hidden gem in Richmond! Has a swimming pool, spa, hot tub, gym (with and without aircon), spin classes, dance classes, massages and so much more. Getting more than enough for $45 a fortnight.
Fantastic experience: Awesome gym. The customer service staff and Personal Trainers are always friends and approachable. The gym is always very clean even when it is busy.
Fantastic experience: Love this place - go as much as I could.
Fantastic experience: Living Longer Living Stronger programme is fantastic. Great knowledgeable staff. I live the fact that the RRC caters to everyone. It is not a body beautiful type of place. ❤
Fantastic experience: Nice gym, u have swimming pool, spa and many classes daily.
Fantastic experience: Great facility and coaches. I loved swimming there!
Positive experience: Las instalaciones son muy amplias y hay una gran oferta de actividades para niños, adultos y mayores. Se echa en falta un mejor mantenimiento de los secadores en el vestuario de mujeres.
Fantastic experience: Nice recreation centre
Fantastic experience: Awesome and big swimming pool
Fantastic experience: One of the best recreation centre
Fantastic experience: Love this place - go as much as I could.
Positive experience: Plenty of lanes and not too busy
Positive experience: There is no indoor basketball court here.
Positive experience: Great centre. Gym isn't that big though.
Positive experience: Essential go to place for Richmond residents. Nice for all physical activities.
Positive experience: Changing rooms are run down. Damaged tiles in male changing room not been fixed for 3 years.
Positive experience: Lovely pool, very cold though. Great changing facilities
Positive experience: Have been coming here twice a week for kids swimming lessons for about 6 years. There are some really great instructors!!
Positive experience: After finishing work I go straight to this place. All in one, say steam and dry sauna, small spa. And 25m aquatic pool you can do laps and exercise. There's also a gym and very nice locker's. If you forget your swimming gear they have a shop where you can get one.
Negative experience: Very friendly and professional lifeguards and staff, but the place was not clean, especially the spa walls, I was there everyday but the dirt on wall. floor are still there, people did not follow the guidelines for example not shower before entering the spa, please let your lifeguard to enforce this procedure, or make a sign SHOWER BEFORE ENTERING THIS AREA on both entrances. Water leaks were never fixed at corner change room near Gym. Please fix to save our water, thanks.
Positive experience: We came here to swim with our 9mo old baby. The toddler pool was perfect for it - temperature abd depth, and easy to get in and out. The one drawback is there is only one family changing room which makes it a bit tricky to get everything organised pre and post swim, especially as most people take 10-15 mins to use the change room with children. Also the change table could do with fixing - its a little scary placing your little one on a very tilted change table!
Positive experience: Was a long term member. Great pool facilities, having recently been upgraded. Gym is tidy, with good equipment. Unfortunately the gym has reached capacity during peak times, so access to equipment is a issue. Unless you’re planning on going at non peak times, I’d suggest looking elsewhere. Plenty of other gyms continue to pop up in the local Richmond area which would likely have better accessibility.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic ten lane lap pool. Two very warm toddlers pools. Very clean throughout and visible lifeguards across everything. Very different to when I swam there in the 1980s! And they do a lovely bit of decoration!
Fantastic experience: Great pool, clean facilities
Fantastic experience: Amazing pool and gym facilities. thoroughly enjoy my time here.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic facilities and reasonably priced membership options
Fantastic experience: Friendly Staffs, Good activities, Large Swimming Pool and Nice Place to chill out :)
Fantastic experience: Good facilities and classes. No pretentious gym junkies. I never have to wait to use any of the cardio or weight equipment
Fantastic experience: Awesome and big swimming pool
Fantastic experience: I really enjoy the pool, sauna and jacuzzi. Those are my favorites!!!
Fantastic experience: Fantastic.
Positive experience: المسبح اولمبي .. يقدم جميع الخدمات للكبار والصغار .. يوجد دورات سباحة للأطفال .. الاسعار معقوله ..
Fantastic experience: Ofrecen múltiples servicios. Muy completo y trato amable y cordial.
Fantastic experience: Great old style pool
Positive experience: Great tp swim
Fantastic experience: Good fascilities
Fantastic experience: Very clean
Fantastic experience: Good service
Positive experience: Good facilities and open long hours
Positive experience: Easy public transport acceds
Positive experience: Best swimming pool in Richmond
Fantastic experience: My grandkids love it!
Fantastic experience: Well maintained and good staff.
Fantastic experience: Great gym with clean facilities!
Positive experience: Very good change rooms, warm enough to handle Melbs winter
Positive experience: Nice pool but three dollars for use of a locker is far too much.
Positive experience: Local aquatic venue good for exercising whether swimming, arobics, or use of gym, also have saunas and steam room.
Negative experience: I have never felt intimidated by a member in a gym until today! And no support from staff. I have to run away from this gym! Terrible behaviour trying to intimidate other members.
Positive experience: The 50 meter lap pool is great, well maintained and not overly busy
Positive experience: Staff are efficient without being effective. Management don't realise they are running a community facility, they run it as a profit making business.
Positive experience: Great amenities. Shame so pricey but probably worth it goven access to 3 gyms? Pools and golf course!
Negative experience: NO SOAP provide in men changing room for more than 1 week, not at all ( on Gym side) Shower ( sauna side) has NO HOT WATER for more than 1 week... still has not decide whether to fix or disconnect it...we still are paying full price...
Positive experience: The pool is perfect as well as the sauna and spa. The gym is lacking in space and equipment. The classes are good too. The boxing on a Tuesday morning is a must.
