Negative experience: I was very interested in joining this gym but there is no membership cost information on their website . There was a PT I was recommended who works at Strand Fitness, I contacted them and initial contact was good. Once I started asking about how the membership works as there is no information online , I was ghosted . When calling the gym they say to come in to get information. Why is it such a secret that it cannot be found on the website ? The lack of transparency around pricing gives the impression that membership costs may vary between individuals and that prices are intentionally not published to avoid comparisons. This makes it difficult to trust the process and the gym which is a shame because I really wanted to work with the trainer .

The cold and hot baths, sauna, steam room, and magnesium pool are added advantages. I’m really sorry to hear you feel this way about the owner; however, I’d like to clarify that it was actually me - Bree, the Club Manager who spoke with you regarding your membership request. I completely understand your situation, but the specific terms you were hoping for simply aren’t something we can create, as they don’t exist within our membership structure. I did provide the closest available options to suit your needs, but I understand you chose not to proceed with them.
While I respect that you’re disappointed, I don’t feel this fairly reflects the service, support, and overall experience you’ve had with us over the years. Positive experience: I booked a yoga reset class and was placed on the waitlist. According to the policy, if I cancel less than 2 hours before class, I am charged a $5 fee. However, I was only notified that I was added to the class 1.5 hours before it started. When I cancelled, I was still charged the $5 fee. This feels unfair and misleading — members should not be penalized when the gym itself confirms a spot too late for us to comply with the cancellation policy. It seems like the system is set up in a way that makes it easy to charge people unnecessarily. Very disappointing experience. A staff member called me after my review and pointed out that I was satisfied with other parts of my membership experience. And that’s true — I do like the facilities, the classes, the instructors, and also the staff who work there — overall the environment is great. However, according to my Membership Agreement (Clause 28), cancellations can occur up to 1 hour before a class with no penalty. In my case, I was added from the waitlist only 1.5 hours before class, then charged $5 when I cancelled. That is not consistent with the contract I signed. I would have appreciated if the staff call had not only reminded me of the positive aspects of my membership, but also addressed how to resolve this issue. Instead, there was no apology or solution offered. While I enjoy the classes, I believe this policy needs to be corrected to align with the membership agreement.

Negative experience: Be extremely cautious when signing with this gym. Not suitable for anyone in a role where relocation is potentially on the cards ie Military. No option to part pay out contract, which is quite mind blowing when you only have to pay out two weeks to get out of a housing leas when you relocate! You will be told to organise a transfer yourself to somebody else , to pay in full or to continue paying until the contract ends. There are no other options so ensure when you sign the contract that whatever the entire amount is you’re prepared to pay that and if you have any real life situations occur, there is no other recourse. There are plenty of good gyms in Townsville so I highly recommend that you look for a gym with a more user-friendly and realistic contractual setup. Dear manager, thanks so much for your reply Outlining the facts as they pertain to your response Our family is ADF otherwise why would we have got the discount?? My partner is a Sargent. My son is 16 , yet business is still charging him on a weekly basis for relocating to Sydney for schooling. I have spoken to your reception six times in relation to this issue You are correct. I did not read the contract from top to bottom, which is why I am writing this so that other families do not get caught in this trap. I understand that I will have to pay out two contracts, but I hope that my correspondence would deter people from being caught in the same position so no I will not take back my one star rating

We're unsure where you received the information that Strand Fitness doesn't offer cancellation options, as this has never been the case. If you could let us know where you saw or heard this, we'd be happy to clarify and correct any misunderstandings.
We can see that you chose to join us on a 12-month membership. All Strand Fitness sign-ups are completed through a face-to-face consultation, where we take the time to explain all policies, procedures, and the full commitment involved in the membership you choose.
To ensure full transparency, we immediately sent you the full membership agreement, which you acknowledged and opened the same day. We also provided a 48-hour cooling-off period, which gives all members an opportunity to change their mind, ask any follow-up questions about the agreement or reconsider their commitment.
Regarding your inquiry about cancelling or pausing your membership, we first discussed this with you almost two months ago, at which time we fully explained all the available options. Since then, we have not received any further action on your account, until two days ago.
We appreciate the opportunity to speak with you in person a few days ago. During that conversation, our manager reminded you again that we offer cancellation options such as transfers and a cancellation fee option. Out of courtesy, we followed up with an email outlining all the options we discussed in person, including the cancellation fee option with the amount attached.
We’ve had many successful membership transfers and finalisations from our both military members and standard membership holders, with absolutely no issues - on the contrary, we consistently receive positive feedback. In fact, the majority of our Strand Fitness members are ADF personnel, and they’ve praised both the membership process, the exclusive rates we offer and the cancellation options.
Upon reviewing your account, we can confirm that you were offered, and accepted - the lowest membership rate available at Strand Fitness. This rate was generously matched to your son’s under-18 membership as a goodwill gesture. Given this, we’re unsure why military membership or ADF relocation is being referenced, as neither your membership nor your son’s qualifies under our ADF memberships. Additionally, we’d like to note that your transfer form listed ‘non-use’ as the reason for cancellation, with no mention of your own relocation from Townsville.
You’ve already completed your side of the transfer form, and we strongly encourage you to start promoting your membership. Many members have found success quickly by simply giving it a go.
It seems there may have been some misunderstanding regarding the terms and cancellation process, despite this being clearly outlined in your agreement, as well as explained in person, over the phone last month, and again this week. Please be assured we’ve made every effort to provide clear communication and support.
We want to reiterate that there are several options available to cancel your membership, and we’ve worked with you in good faith every step of the way. While we understand you may be dissatisfied with the available options, we have remained consistent with our policies and gone above and beyond to assist.
Given the context, we kindly ask you to reconsider your 1-star review. We believe we’ve been transparent and accommodating throughout this process, and hope that upon reviewing your membership agreement, this will be clearer.

As someone constantly on the road for work, I really appreciated the extended staff hours till 8pm-made it easy to fit in a proper session without the stress. Fantastic experience: Wow what a fab training centre. This dreamy place is the “Cartier” of gyms. Perfect for the serious trainer & casual trendy. Such a big space filled with the most outstanding collection of fully functioning, clean, smooth “Hammer Strength” equipment. It covers several floors. We were like kids in a lollie shop . Townsville has an outstanding facility in the city centre. It is worth visiting the city just to access the beautiful gym. The toilets are first class & lots of additional facilities like spas, ice baths & saunas if you’re into that sort of thing. It does of course attract your usual junkies sitting on machines staring at their phones convincing themselves they are working hard.. Fortunately there’ are enough machines to work around them & find good options. Highly highly recommend !!!

Power racks and if you’re desperate cardio machines if only you could get rid of ppl that sit on machines between their sets and play with their phones but they’re the same in all gyms
