Negative experience: I’ve been a Fitness First member for over 3 years, and this has been one of the most disappointing experiences I’ve ever had with a company. After trying to cancel my long-term membership, I was told I had to pay a cancellation fee and give 30 days’ notice. To resolve a misunderstanding about that, I was told the only way to clear the balance was to move onto a 3-month membership, which I was assured would automatically end with no additional fees or notice required, both over the phone and via email. I paid every week for the full 3 months — yet after it ended, they kept trying to take money from my account and claimed my membership was still active. After multiple calls and three emails, I’ve still had no written response or resolution. Each time I call to follow up I’m told someone will “look into it,” and then nothing happens. I genuinely thought that, with written evidence, this misunderstanding would be a quick fix. I’ve been a member at many other gyms and have never had to beg just to get a membership cancelled or receive basic customer service. It’s extremely disappointing that the only way to get what’s fair is by involving NSW Fair Trading. Looking at other reviews, this clearly isn’t a one-off issue, so beware if you’re thinking of joining. Loyal members shouldn’t have to fight this hard just to get a basic level of customer service.
Fantastic experience: I'll give 4.5 stars because it's my favourite gym and has room but it requires renovation to be honest.. when I first started in this gym 5 years ago it was very pretty.. now alot of lockers are broken ( I've fixed couple of them myself just because I know how ) and some equipment are unstable and yanky but I still like going here. Can't complain too much

Fantastic experience: I joined Fitness First George Street after meeting AJ, and it’s been the best decision for my fitness journey. Training with AJ has been a game changer as I have lost weight, built muscle, strength, and confidence with his expert guidance He’s incredibly knowledgeable, professional, and genuinely cares about his clients’ progress. Every session is tailored to my goals, and he always helps me to achieve more than I thought possible On top of that, the team at FF is amazing Sarah, in particular, is always so helpful, proactive, and friendly, she greets me with a smile every time and is quick to help with any questions I have. Negative experience: It's a meh gym, nowhere near "platinum" as claimed. Very old premises, moldy smell and missing ceiling tiles all over the place. No proper network signal once you're on gym floor and their WiFi signal is on par with their facilities and services

Fantastic experience: Erin is a great instructor, very friendly and always offering help. Feels great to be in her class. I attend her class as those days and time are more suitable for me. I have attended other instructors classes too, they are great too. I think this is the best part of my experience in Reform Pilates.

Negative experience: Scam - They pressure you to join with free trial, and if you leave they AND CANCEL they will just charge you anyway. If you call to try and get it refunded, they will say it takes 3 weeks to be returned and it's coming. It never comes, call the bank and get them to charge it back asap. These Gyms shouldn't even be legal

Negative experience: I've cancelled during the cooling off period via email and phone. Got charged the amount anyway. Called them and they said - no worries, sorry for that, we'll issue a refund. It never came. I had to call multiple times over the last months, got told again the money will be sent, but haven't received anything. Sent an email, no response. It's unbelievable that I got falsely charged and still can't get that money back

Negative experience: Reposting this review so these liars don’t comment that they resolved. Not true, they ignore calls and emails awful customer experience. Disappointing customer service. I went for a trial and joined straight away. I told them I was only a few days away from surgery on 20 August and was told that if I joined that day, I’d get free access until the surgery, no joining fee, and that I wouldn’t be charged until September when I was ready to train again. To my surprise, they not only charged me before the agreed time, but also added a joining fee and an extra week. I called the day before my surgery—already stressed, because the last thing I needed was another problem—and was told I’d get a refund and that charges would only restart once I was able to come back. Before I was even back, I was charged again and NO REFUND. The worst part has been the poor communication— ignored emails, no return calls, no clear answers. At this point I’m not sure what else to do, but I wouldn’t recommend joining. The location is convenient and the gym itself is good, but honestly not worth the headache. First time I wrote this review was 4 weeks ago and even though they made a comment below this is NOT TRUE. The issue has not been resolved and they keep ignoring my emails and don’t resolve when I call. The manager is conveniently in a meeting and never calls back

Fantastic experience: reformer pilates at 10 am with Iker is fantastic, he always explains each movement thoroughly and which muscles to use. he is very knowledgable and professional as if he is a personal trainer. hot flow yoga with jessica on saturday is also very enjoyable. shes a very responsible trainer and does the program along with the class.

Negative experience: Bizarrely few weights machines for such a large gym. Fairly run down, luke warm showers. Also the only gym I've been too on several continents that does not provide benchs in the changing rooms.

Negative experience: Very disappointing for a “Platinum” gym. The wet area has a horrible smell that makes it almost unusable, and the communal sauna and steam room are constantly out of service. Many of the showers are broken or in terrible condition, and even the water fountain and bins are completely rusted. It honestly feels like the facilities are being neglected, which is unacceptable given the high membership fees. As members, we expect at least a minimum standard of quality and proper maintenance. The wet areas, which should be one of the main attractions of a Platinum club, are instead often unavailable or in such poor condition that they cannot be used. This defeats the purpose of paying for a premium membership. The only positive aspect is the staff, who are always friendly, professional, and willing to help. Unfortunately, management urgently needs to invest in fixing these issues, because members deserve far better than what is currently offered.

Negative experience: I don't mind this gym for the classes, but at 160cm tall seems like every single machine for muscle building is for someone taller and therefore I can't use them. I can't reach any handles and ends up pulling me in all kinds of directions. The bathrooms are pretty disgusting too. ---update: on the shortest machine settings, I still cant reach or sit with feet flat in a stable position. Nice try FF!

Negative experience: If I could leave less than 1 star I would! My jacket was taken from Fitness First George St over 2 weeks ago now. Yes, the locker was unlocked, which I told the receptionists when first reporting it, that it was completely my own Liability. It was taken on a day they were handing out free passes to non members so the locker room/gym was really busy! After coming back from a session and it wasn't in my locker (after looking everywhere else but my stuff was moved from on top of the jacket so someone was in there), I went up to reception and reported it. I came back the next morning to a lovely receptionist who usually doesn't work at the club, this was on the 23 July. Filled in an incident report form and she was really sympathetic evening admitting she leaves her locker unlocked (for the record some of the lockers are broken so when I have tried to lock my stuff, they don't even work!!!). I was told that day 'Alex the manager' who I am yet to hear from, would review footage and see if they can see anyone leaving with it, between a very particular time frame. Knowing there's no cameras in the changing areas, obviously I knew it would be if they could see anyone leaving with it. First of all, never heard from the gym since, I work nearby so went in twice, called 3 times and emailed twice. To be told 'Alex is looking into it or it is being investigated.' I doubt anyone even bothered to look at the CCTV. I went to the gym on 30 July and when leaving politely asked for an update. A young blonde english girl on reception basically accused me of not re tracing my steps and said she doubts it was taken then said 'I will get Alex to call you'...without asking my name or number? Super unhelpful and beyond the worst customer service. Rang again on 31 July and asked for Alex. Put on hold and the receptionist obviously spoke to him or he simply wasn't there and told me they can't trace it sorry. Alex never spoke to me, if he even exists. And why tell me you'll follow up and call if you're never going to. I had a little bit of hope my expensive jacket would be returned (granted I know the locker was unlocked, I am well aware of the liability before that's included in a response - which I'd be absolutely shocked if I get). Maybe next time before you have an open day, check all the lockers actually work in the changing rooms. And I will be changing gyms ASAP. Worst worst worst gym and smells horrendous too.

Negative experience: We were misled into signing. Last year, my partner and I joined this gym after being told that my corporate discount could be applied after sign-up if I emailed it through. There was also a promotional offer running at the time, and I specifically asked if the corporate discount would apply in addition to that. I was told yes. Months later, I realised I had been overcharged. I went into the gym and raised the issue. No follow-up. I emailed. No reply. I returned in person and spoke to the same staff member who originally signed us up. Again, nothing. Eventually, I received an email response, which unfortunately made the situation worse. Cameron Martin, the manager, was incredibly dismissive and unhelpful. Despite the clear miscommunication and the fact that I had a witness, he refused to backdate the discount or honour it alongside the promotional offer, as we had originally been promised. They offered a few free weeks, but it felt like a way to avoid accountability. I wasn’t after freebies. I just wanted the agreed-upon rate or a cancellation by this point. I contacted the ACCC, who weren’t able to do anything themselves without written proof, but advised that verbal agreements are binding and suggested legal action, especially since I had a witness and the corporate discount stated that it was off the retail rate, not rack rate. I am not only still being charged the full amount with no discounts, I have also been overcharged many times despite having ample funds. Yes, it is a cheap gym, but integrity should still matter. I feel taken advantage of and disappointed by how this was handled. Obviously still concerned enough about others to write a review! If anyone else has had a similar experience (and it looks like people have) feel free to get in touch.

Negative experience: Easily the worst gym i've ever been to: Facility Maintenance: Equipment is frequently out of order for extended periods without clear timelines for repairs. Broken lockers have never been repaired, and when you ask staff about it, you get vague responses about "waiting for parts" or "it's been reported." For what members are paying, this is unacceptable. Cleanliness Concerns: The hygiene standards are sub par. Changing rooms have mould throughout that isn't properly cleaned, lockers are never cleared out despite this being a priority in the terms and conditions, and the overall cleanliness feels like it's not a priority anymore. Staff Responsiveness: Getting help or answers from staff is like pulling teeth. Simple questions get met with shrugs or "I'll have to check with someone else" responses that never follow through. When you raise legitimate concerns, they're either dismissed or you're told "it's being looked into" with no actual follow-up.

Negative experience: I came to Fitness First George St around a month and a half ago to try a free trial Pilates class. I wasn’t planning on signing up there, but felt pressured into joining on the spot with the whole “no joining fee” pitch. I specifically asked about student discounts and was told I’d get 20% off, so I handed over my student details then and there. Since then, they’ve overcharged me three times $10 over my agreed rate each time. I’ve raised the issue multiple times and only now, weeks later, they finally said they’d fix it… tonight. No compensation, just a half-hearted “sorry.” Honestly, for a gym that brags about their “premium” status and facilities, their customer service is rubbish. If you’re considering joining, be prepared to chase them up constantly if something goes wrong and don’t expect much help when it does.

Negative experience: The showers are dirty. While I was showering, a man with a smaller build was often lingering around the shower area, which felt disturbing — he even watched me through the door gap. Just a reminder for everyone to stay safe. Staff said there are no cameras and they can’t do anything, which makes me feel unsafe.
Negative experience: Cameron and Axel were unfortunately absolutely useless with their customer service. I had to chase and chase to cancel my membership, even submitted an enquiry online to cancel and they wouldn’t honour this request as my notice period. Highly unprofessional and rude.

Negative experience: At the end of December of last year, I visited the gym to hire a personal trainer. After being introduced to a trainer, I was told by the gym owner that I had to pay the gym membership fee in order to receive personal training there. I signed up for a one-year membership. However, about two months later, the trainer left without any prior notice. I never received a single training session from that trainer, nor did I ever use the gym facilities. Since I no longer needed to use the gym, I requested to cancel my membership and stop the payments, but my request was ignored with no response. Even now, the gym continues to withdraw the membership fee from my account every month.

Negative experience: Was surprised about a “platinum” gym having such rude customer service. Came with a guest pass that stated allows one time entry but was refused to be let in since I need to be “looking for a membership” to use the guest pass. I am not actively looking for another gym but always wanted to see what fitness first has to offer. But this policy basically states that you have to more or less already make up your mind that you’re joining, otherwise you cannot try them out— which is imo the complete opposite purpose of a “trial”? If that’s the case, please update the terms on the guest pass, and train your staffs to be more understanding about the lack of information people with the guest pass might have, so that they could respond in a friendlier way! If this experience is just a reflection of the utilitarian nature for the gym, then I genuinely feel that I dodged a bullet here.

Negative experience: The gym has good variety of facilities snd equipments however not clean at most times. there is shortage of weights in the upper inner section and forget about chalk. The Could be busy during peak hours. I have been going to this branch for around 6 months and the sauna is mostly broken for last 3-4 months. The pool water is warm which is good. They have a DJ at times because priorities lol.. Also how come some of the better reviews have professionally taken photos attached to em, sus!

Negative experience: Expensive, rude staff. instructor was a no show for class less than 30m before (this happened 3x in two weeks) Equipment broken, locker doors falling off, generally filthy. For a ‘platinum’ gym this is a joke. Under a previous membership supposedly froze it while continued to charge.

Negative experience: This is an awful organisation. I signed up and they signed me up different than what agreed. I gave them an opportunity to correct and they did not get back to me so I cancelled. Also worth to mention the contract would not come through, I had to follow up and there was some random email address noted on it, not mine, even though we confirmed it loud and clearly via phone. Then they had the audacity to take money out of my account anyway. I kept my account empty deliberately as I did not trust these guys at all. So they have played around with how much they can take out because they took out 5$ which was the maximum possible based on what I left in the account. It does not equal any amount reasonable and I was not supposed to be charged anything yet anyways. They did not offboard me, still getting texts and email, never received a cancellation confirmation (only a call from a guy trying to make me stay). They just want your money and that’s it. No vibe or human energy or soul there at all. Do not recommend. And I don’t think HQ cares either. I complained via their online form also but no one bothered to get back. Found a Pilates studio around the corner instead.

Negative experience: I attended the 12:15pm Body Pump class today and received awful treatment from the female instructor. I was minding my business in class and the instructor kept picking on me. I have been a regular gym member since 2018 and it’s such a disappointment to be treated like a second class citizen. She called me out through the mic by identifying me as the girl with the ponytail, wore a strappy bra crop top, and criticizing me on how I’m carrying my bar (please note I’m a regular body pump member for other Fitness First locations, so why am I being embarrassed in front of other body pump members. It’s unfair and I cannot tolerate this type of mistreatment). She also looked me in the eye to make me feel uncomfortable, when I looked at the stage of her direction she confirmed she was talking to me. I am Asian woman and this is terrible, with the bullying experience. I politely packed the weights and equipment back onto the rack and as I was leaving to reach the door the instructor said through the mic “you cannot leave this room.” This is humiliating and I don’t deserve this type of treatment and where is the respect?

Negative experience: I’ve had a frustrating experience with Fitness First on George Street. I attempted to freeze my gym plan but faced significant difficulties. My plan was cancelled without communication. Despite visiting the gym in person and sending five emails, I received no response. Costumers are just numbers..

Negative experience: Male british staff was so unnecessarily rude. Signed up for a free trial online today and received a call from the staff asking if i am interested in joining or just want a one off. Told him i just wanted to train with a friend so only one off, came in later in the day and another staff brought me through the procedures to sign in. The staff that called me earlier came by and asked me to pay 22 dollars for the entry. This could all be said on the phone that this was the conditions etc before i even gotten to the gym, and being so rude when i questioned him why couldnt this info told to me on the phone was just so appaling coming from fitness first platinum. Think im definitely staying with anytime fitness

Negative experience: Poor customer service -- is terribleI have been a member since 1988. I had an accident and broke both my wrists in 2022. I was unfit for the gym until now. I asked for my membership to be frozen. It was not as promised and I was charged fortnightly. I have emailed and emailed and was advised it would be rectified. Now they are denying receipt or those emails and reusing to refund me. The company is very unsympathetic. In fact they are rude. The response from the company was less than useful. I already cancelled and did send Drs certificates through out my 18 month illness. They show zero goodwill. No response was received when I submitted another Drs certificate. I was promised a refund which never happened. All advice is welcome. I will escalate with ACCC

Negative experience: This is an ok gym but it's more of an equipment graveyard. For months now various pieces of equipment remain unfixed and it's the same story across all the branches. Very simple fixes to. They just don't really care. It looks the part and they are over saturated with personal trainers. For a premium price it should be way better. It makes you wonder how well the pool is looked after. Quick to take your money. Slow to fix the gym equipment. For the price definitely look elsewhere. They don't even have that many locations

Negative experience: Started charging me double the price a few months after signing up without notice. When I complained, they were slow to respond and continued to charge me double price while I was waiting for a refund and charged me an extra fee on top.
Fantastic experience: The facilities of this gym are very clean
Negative experience: Quite disappointed in this location. I’ve been here quite a few times over the last 2 years. No one puts equipment away or racks their weights - it’s just scattered all over the gym floor. The antibacterial wipes are always empty - how is anyone meant to wipe down equipment and the machines after using it? It’s unhygienic and gross. Should I be expected to carry my own wipes? It’s a platinum location apparently… the rig area near the fitness studio. The flooring there has been caved in for over a year now or maybe even longer. Not only is it a severe tripping hazard, it makes the rig area incredibly hard to use - as the floor caves in right in the spot you’d step out to squat or put a bench down to bench press. Other locations are able to fix these issues not sure why you guys can’t. Especially a location where it’s busy and gets a lot of foot traffic.
Negative experience: Staff were very unfriendly and rude upon my arrival earlier this week. I have been a member of Fitness First for a week and the overall facilities were very unhygienic. No wipes on the gym floor with sweat stains on equipment and the change room showers covered in mould with a foul smell, causing me to get a staph infection. For a platinum gym this is very appalling. Not worth the price will be taking my business elsewhere

Negative experience: Don’t waste your efforts and time here. I booked a free trial online 3 days in advance and a staff called me twice for confirmation. When I arrived, no records showing in their system. The front desk too busy at the time, so a he called others come to help. Later a female staff showed up and meant to help me check it, but she ignored me and started to serve others… Never mind, signed with VA just now.
Negative experience: I recently visited this gym, and the overall cleanliness was subpar. The facility felt dirty, with unclean equipment and a general lack of hygiene. The staff exhibited rudeness, making the experience less than welcoming. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this gym to anyone seeking a clean and respectful fitness environment.

Negative experience: Horrible human beings. The attitude of the staff makes me rewatch Dr. Martin Luther King's speech. Wonder what they're so snooty about - I assume for them barely making it past Year 10 is an achievement.
Negative experience: Go there only if you want to don’t want mobile reception or internet for the time you are there. I have complained multiple times over the last three months about the wifi bandwidth(probably the worst in the world). No actions taken. I can understand about mobile reception not being available but the wifi speed is absurd. After all, what would it take to get the wifi fixed in the middle of one of the world’s developed cities?
Negative experience: That gym is not very clean. The bathroom is dirty with non-functioning flushes and the pool and sauna smell like stingy feet. The yoga mats smell bad too. Not worth the membership price. ♀️
Fantastic experience: Love this place! My top 3 favourite Fitness First between Sydney-Melbourne! One of the cleanest, changing rooms, sauna, steam room are always clean! Its one place that if I'm trying to travel light on my way there, I'm ok to leave my havaianas at home because I know it will be safe to walk around barefoot. The staff are also always friendly, my favourite is Grace, always welcoming and very helpful when I have questions. The opening hours listed on Google says 24hours, which is, but if you need to know the staffed hours, for steam room, pool, etc, here it is, I got it last week: Sunday: 10am - 4pm Monday: 6am - 9pm Tuesday: 6am - 9pm Wednesday: 6am - 9pm Thursday: 6am - 9pm Friday: 6am - 8pm Saturday: 9am - 4pm You're welcome! :)
Fantastic experience: The staff and service is exceptional, never felt so comfortable and confident walking into a gym. The coaches are so friendly and really provide all the support needed. Highly recommend!!
Negative experience: Was 2 days into a 3 day trial (would have purchased a year membership on day 3), was told when leaving on day 2 that I could sign-up now or I can't come back... get this, BECAUSE I DONT HAVE AN AUSTRALIAN ID. Discriminate much?! I'm Canadian and have been living in Sydney for >1 year... easily could have provided proof that I live and work here. Young curly haired guy is very unprofessional and extremely rude. I'll take my business around the corner.

Fantastic experience: Best gym I’ve been to in Sydney! Staff here are helpful kind and no sense of “I work at a gym” arrogance, which is refreshing. The facilities are great and the equipment is well placed and there’s plenty of space. But the lifts are a godsend on leg day, bond street needs to take notes!
Negative experience: This gym keeps declining—dirty showers and toilets, broken machines, and a pool and steam sauna that are constantly out of order. They brand themselves as “platinum” and charge premium prices but deliver subpar quality.
Negative experience: Horrible customer service. My partner and I went for a trial day to check out the facilities and the gym. The FF George street manager (guy with curly hair) had attitude for god knows what reason. Spoke rudely and told us that there’s no trial available if we don’t have a photo ID with an NSW address (DISCRIMINATORY MUCH). We’ve been living in Sydney for over a year now and told him that we’re willing to show our visa, passport, and our lease agreements for proof over and above all the ID cards we have with us. He just point blank refused (rudely, must I add). When we questioned him around this ABSURD policy and pointed out this discrimination - he asked us to “get out of the club” and said “we were rude to call this discrimination” (LOL at his oblivion). He constantly smirked with his other staff in the place and used absolutely rude language. I really wish FF spent some time checking on the staff they hired - because across all the comments I see repeated experiences. PS: we went to the FF at bond street and the lady manager there was more than helpful. Not only did she help us with the trial, she went out of her way to give us a tour and fit in an additional reformer class for me to try out before becoming a member. This only makes me feel this isn’t a Fitness First policy but merely the curly hair manager’s (at George Street) made up discriminatory rule. PPS: I went ahead with Virgin because I couldn’t be bothered with discriminatory behaviour. Not in this generation please. Get out of your rock FF.
Fantastic experience: I've been a member of Fitness First for last 8 years now and I'm really happy with it. The gym is never too busy, even during peak hours, so I can always find a machine or weight to use. The gym also has a wet and dry sauna, a swimming pool, and a black label lounge. Pros: Not too busy Lots of equipment Wet and dry sauna Swimming pool Black label lounge Friendly and helpful staff Clean and well-maintained Cons: Some equipment is outdated
Fantastic experience: Customers service here is really amazing. I’m glad I joined fitness first George Platinum, I was lucky that I was assisted by Thalia. She is really amazing and a sweet one. I’m really an annoying one but she handled me smoothly. Negative experience: I wish I never signed a membership at this gym. The customer service has been hell, and the club manager will make your experience a nightmare. David Shwab, the club manager is completely rude and unhelpful when any concerns are brought to his attention. Once you sign a contract here you are screwed.
Positive experience: Lovely club. Staff friendly, awesome machine got everything you need. Pilates class with Nigel was awesome. Only downside the tap water is a bit smelly. Will come back for the reform pilates class here.
Positive experience: The Zumba class was absolutely amazing but the customer service not. The blond lady at the front desk was so rude. I got confused and it looked like a real issue I had has twice before at another FF. This lady chose to be defensive, rude and kinda tell me it was not their issue, trying to cut me from talking etc. At the other gyms where I had the similar issue they were so nice and helpful. I don't know why people in customer service forget that they're there to help and be composed at all times. I have years of experience working on customer service and even when customers make racist comments towards me I keep.my composure. This lady really need some training.
Positive experience: Not the best Fitness First I've been too. There was enough equipment and sufficient facilities. On the flipside, it was quite disordered in terms of where the equipment was laid out, and the culture seemed to be to just leave weights and gear laying everywhere
Fantastic experience: Great staff to greet you sets the tone for your workout, Michelle the new manager and her team do a great job to maintain the standard and make you feel welcome. Gym is not too crowded and always a great place to workout. Pilates classes are excellent with very good instructors. Overall great gym vibe.

Fantastic experience: Surprisingly convenient to get to; lots of Reformer Pilates Classes throughout the day, which I love! Swimming Pool and Steam Room, Hot Yoga, and so many other options. I don't work in town but it's easy to get to on the Light Rail so it's now my favourite gym.
Fantastic experience: Great gym love it. Been going to the reform pilates classes and shout out for Nigel and Rita especially for being great reform pilates instructors. Great service, great gym, great variety of facilities.
Fantastic experience: FF George St is great! I love the addition of reformer pilates! I have been working at home for the past two years, and this has got me coming back to the city. I come from the upper north shore, so it’s a dedicated trip and I tend to do a few classes. Kudos to Alex Lee,Aram Faizi, Nigel Fletcher and Erin Brown for being great instructors! ❤️❤️❤️
Fantastic experience: Spacious and clean gym with great staff. Super helpful and lots on offer. I really like the mind and body studio, plus the new reformer pilates classes! Really takes my FF membership to a new level.
Fantastic experience: Reform Pilates classes have been a great addition to what FF GSP offers, the instructors are very helpful - and the machines really ensure you do the exercises properly - been great rehab for my back !
Fantastic experience: Excellent gym with very new and state-of-the-art equipment. Lovely group fitness trainers with a great variety of classes available. The pool and relaxation area are a nice addition to this gym, that most others don’t have!
