Negative experience: I was charged a joining fee without any prior explanation during my conversation with the staff. This is completely unacceptable and feels dishonest. The way this was handled, combined with the extremely poor customer service, left me very frustrated and disappointed. Based on this experience, I would rate this gym 1 out of 10. I will never recommend this place to anyone, including my friends and family.

Fantastic experience: I really like the Fitness First Flinders Street gym. The team members are friendly and helpful, and it is easy to find someone to help you when needed. Negative experience: I’ve been coming here for at least 8 years. It seems the place loves its TV’s and play inappropriate music videos showing satanic, demonic and sexual imagery constantly and feels like it’s gotten worse over time. You can’t escape, there are literally up to 6 TV’s in immediate site in some locations. Headphones in, no problem but the crap in TV especially early mornings is just weird. Held off for long enough.

Negative experience: I was invited by a Fitness First staff member to join on a 6-week free trial. The terms were explained to me very clearly at the time: • I only needed to provide my name and phone number, no bank or credit card details. • After the 6 weeks, if I did not confirm my membership, the trial would automatically cancel. • I was reassured more than once that there would be no fees or obligations unless I actively chose to register. Based on this, I accepted the invitation and visited a few branches during the trial. In the end, I decided not to continue as a member. I never signed a membership contract, nor gave any payment details, and therefore reasonably believed the matter was closed. However, once the trial ended, I began receiving messages claiming I had “unpaid membership fees.” This was very concerning, because the promises I was given by the staff were the opposite. From an objective point of view, this situation raises serious concerns: • Misleading invitations: Being invited by staff under the promise of “free, no obligations” and later chased for fees contradicts what was told to me. • Consumer rights risks: Under Australian Consumer Law, businesses must not mislead customers or demand payment for services they did not agree to. • Trust and fairness: If this happened to me, it could easily happen to other people who accept such trial invitations in good faith. This is not only an inconvenience to me, but also a warning for others. A free trial should build trust and allow people to experience the service safely, not expose them to hidden fees or collection messages. I strongly encourage Fitness First to review its trial offers, ensure that staff communication is consistent and accurate, and protect consumers from misleading practices. Until then, I would advise anyone considering a trial—especially when being invited by staff—to request all terms and conditions in writing before agreeing. I have attempted to contact Fitness First through the official website. However, the system requires me to provide my personal contact details again. Given what has already happened, I can no longer trust how my information will be handled. This makes me feel very uneasy and concerned about how Fitness First may use or store my personal data. Could you please advise if there are any alternative solutions for resolving this matter without me having to provide my personal details again?

Negative experience: A few years ago, due to work, I arrived about 10 minutes late to a cycling class. I quietly joined by sitting on an empty bike in the back row, but the instructor came all the way over and, using the microphone, told me to leave in front of everyone. It was humiliating and unnecessary, and I’ve never returned to Fitness First since. And even if I joined year plan, after contract end they still charge weekly fee unless I call them to cancel, this was not communicated while I was signing contract. All in all the most Terrible place ever!

Negative experience: Terrible Gym. Staff Charged me even though it should have been free through the hotel, which after they charged me told me it was, but could not process a refund. Most lockers are broken, equipment is tired and needs some love, Equipment is layed out poorly and not enought space between them so people can't workout on the same equipment at the same time. Don't waste your $25 here and go some where else. 2/10 rating as a gym.

Negative experience: I migrated from AF and oh boy i think i just made a big mistake. First, the consultant that signed me up was very unresponsive after i signed the contract. Was promised with some deals of free few weeks and zero payment upon sign up. Guess what? I had to chase them and asked why i got charged in the first week? Excuse was there was some miscommunication with the direct debit company and unfortunately they cant do anything about it. I had to go to the club just to get this information as that specific staff was not responding to my emails. There has been no transparency in the process, i had to summarise our deal in an email and sent to them (which again there was no response to at least acknowledge the receipt of the email). Secondly, Mobile phone receptions are the worst! I am using Telstra and had no chance to get reception on the second floor. They gave wifi but guess what - it was really bad that i rather not have any connectivity. I go to QV these days as i dont feel like someone thought i was gone from the face of the earth whenever i go to the flinders st club. Machines are OLD! Cmon, even AF go and do renovate their gym and upgrade equipments every few years! Also the machines were not organised, they were everywhere. Machines for lats could be clustered in one corner then another lats machine is in the middle of nowhere. Not to mention this isnt 24 hours. Why is this club a platinum? Overall - bad impression and would definitely leave the club after my 1 year contract to go back to AF. Lucky i signed up for one year ONLY.

Negative experience: I recently had a very disappointing experience with a staff member named Sam at Fitness First Gym. As a current member, I brought a friend who wanted to try a one-day trial—something we clearly mentioned several times. Instead of offering a simple trial, Sam pressured my friend into signing a 12-month membership, promising a one-week “free” period with the option to cancel. Feeling uneasy but wanting to give it a chance, my friend reluctantly agreed and signed the contract. After the trial session, however, my friend decided not to continue and asked Sam to cancel immediately—again, within the promised trial window. Rather than handling the request professionally, Sam’s attitude became hostile. He appeared visibly annoyed, raised his voice, and even threatened to ban us from the gym if we signed up elsewhere. He complained that we should not have signed up for a one-day trial “to avoid a contract” when we had made it clear from the beginning. His aggressive tone and outright threats made us feel unwelcome and disrespected. I expected a bit more courtesy and flexibility, especially since the trial terms were part of his own sales pitch. Instead, Sam’s dismissive and intimidating behavior has left me questioning whether I want to continue my own membership here. It’s unfortunate that someone in a customer-facing role would treat potential or existing members with such disregard. I hope Fitness First addresses this attitude problem, because no one should feel bullied when simply trying out their facility.

Negative experience: Thank you for your response. I understand the importance of maintaining security and ensuring everyone scans in properly. However, my concern is with how the situation was handled. My friend and I had a negative experience with one of your staff members. She wasn't on duty at the time—she was in gym clothes, not work attire—which made the interaction feel personal rather than professional. It came across as targeted, especially since she questioned whether my friend had tapped in, in a way that felt unnecessarily accusatory and even racially charged. If she were on shift, I could better understand her involvement. But in this case, it felt like she was overstepping, acting more like a security guard than a fellow gym-goer. It left us both uncomfortable and unwelcome. We come to the gym to focus on our health, and this experience made that difficult. I hope this can be addressed with your team, as no member should feel singled out or judged based on appearance or background.

Negative experience: Came into this just just to inquire about a membership as I was new to Melbourne, the manager pestered me for a week to join so she said I can get a 2 weeks free trial she even told me that I can put in the wrong bank number so I don’t need to pay it so I done this and now I am still getting charged after 2 weeks, Fitness first are now asking me for $120 for a gym I used twice and no longer stay in Melbourne.. I think this is incredibly unprofessional by someone who is supposed to be in charge.

Fantastic experience: Went to Fitness First Flinders St branch for a free trial, it’s a two-story gym, which the layout is kinda similar to City Fitness Queen St branch in Auckland NZ but with a better lighting, and you can enjoy the street view while doing cardio to distract yourself. The staff Tammy was very chill, really kind and patient of her to introduce every area of the gym to me as well as the detail for membership plans, especially the heads-up for the extra charge if bank account balance was not enough on the weekly bill due date. The ventilation and temperature inside the gym is perfect for me for a high-volume workout, and there are free wipes to clean the machines. The machines in this gym may not be the best but there are more than 8 racks for squatting, and there’s a specific machine for calf raises, would be a perfect gym for leg days, but unfortunately I had a chest workout on this trial. Decent gym for bench press tho, I found the cable cross is really nice coz you can adjust the width of it to do any flies focusing on different part of your pec. The criticism would be having limited machines for chest workout, I couldn’t find a machine for lower chest press nor a pec machine for chest fly, and the rope for triceps pulldown there is not my thing. 4.3/5 for the machine, 4.5/5 for the atmosphere and 5/5 for the customer service.

Negative experience: I came in for a day free trial and was upfront with them telling them I was looking at other gyms to also trial so I can make a decision, If I knew I was going to get attitude and pushy people I would of just paid for a casual visit to have a look at it and avoid any contact, especially the text message the next day telling me I shouldn't of rushed off after my workout. Great location pity the attitude of the employees let them down.

Negative experience: I am extremely disappointed with the way my membership cancellation has been handled and demand immediate resolution of this matter. I made it explicitly clear when I signed up that I would only need the membership until October 16 Your staff assured me that there would be no issues, but the series of events that followed is completely unacceptable: 1. October 15: I emailed to confirm the cancellation but received no response. I personally visited your branch, where staff promised to follow up, but no one did. 2. October 16: I sent another email, which was also ignored. Despite my efforts, you charged my account on October 17, violating the agreed terms. 3. After that charge, no further deductions were made, leading me to believe the membership was finally canceled. 4. Shockingly, on November 7 and November 14, November 20 additional unauthorized charges were made, resulting in my account overdrafting and causing me to incur penalties. 5. On November 15 I sent yet another email to address this issue. Unsurprisingly, I have received no response to date. This level of negligence and lack of communication is unacceptable. I am not only frustrated but also financially inconvenienced by your repeated mistakes. I am demanding the following: 1. Immediate cancellation of my membership to stop further unauthorized charges. 2. Refunds for the charges made on November 7 and November 14, November 20 as well as compensation for any overdraft fees caused by these actions.

Negative experience: Wipe dispenser machines are hardly ever stocked up or either broken for nearly a year; Therefore people leave equipment and machines sweaty and gross to even use. I wish this gym prioritised having members on the floor make sure the gym floor is tidy and hygienic instead of just 'hanging out' at the front desk. Even after asking to have the dispenser stocked up nobody came to make sure they are stocked for 15min.

Negative experience: The space is nice, less crowded than the other two CBD locations. But there is a definite attitude problem with the crowd. They will interrupt you mid set and angrily complain you stole their machine or bench and they left their phone somewhere nearby and went off to do some other exercise for 10 minutes. This has happened to me several times at this location.

Negative experience: Beware LGBTQIA+ people. Today, while training, I was appalled to overhear a young, mousy brown male trainer making homophobic comments openly to his client. He openly stated that while he tolerates gay people and will take their money as clients, he avoids gyms with many gay members because it makes him uncomfortable. His exact words were that gay people are "too much doing their gay things" and compared it to being at a club. It's disheartening to know that he will take money from LGBTQI+ clients but still slander us behind our backs and make us feel unwelcome. LGBTQI+ community members, beware of the homophobic trainers at this gym. Shame on them for spreading hate to their clients.

Negative experience: Hii so I was month to month member cause I was moving house when I join this membership here while they upselling me instead to have 1 yr contract . Eventually I moved house didn’t show up from from Feb And I did let one of the staff know I’m moving house you can remove me for membership but they didn’. and they q withdrawing my money from my account Every week also overdue and I closed my account which was obvious needs to be paid any pending balance and make it zero . But still they keep sending me invoice and send 424$ invoice nowfrom debt collection accusing i was using gym unti 16 th April on the date day while they finally cancel my gym membership :( ( .if I was staying or even did an hour gym plz have a footage of me or Vedio of me ) for this past 3/4 months . I used go to 12 -5:30 between time check on that time and give me evidence if I actually was there . But they were hesitant to do that either x . I did spoke prior to month to staff member that I have to cancel month to month membership cause it’s too far to use this gym .but they didnt do that for me . Hello fitness staff it’s not my fault . I even said the i can pay one month advance gym fee if that was a problem but the manager she refused that too . Even if I’m not stepping there . And make common sense if your transaction is from my closed account is means I already paid from my recently to closed account it has to be zero amount with no minuse and pending transactions. Now Just because you don’t owe and withdraw my money from my new account you can’t accuse me for using your gym free . I said get me phootage of me plzz happy to pay Still sending me invoice ?? Before you having a fair management system you went for debt collection which I have already paid i still have a bank statements . If you take me to court I’m happy to go thank you .

Fantastic experience: I enjoyed this gym compared to the FF near my place. It has a good amount of equipment. Justin at the front desk was very kind and helpful. The gym does need a hip abduction/adduction machine and hip thrust machine. Good space and good staffed hours. It’s good that there are lots of wipe stations around. Definitely wipe down the equipment. Hey patrons, wash your hands after using the toilet! The amount of times I see this behaviour is incredible. Don’t be a grubby tool, your genitals are not sterile!

Negative experience: This place is a mess. They rarely respond to customer's enquiry or emails even after several business days. Their club manager is an absolutely incompetent individual which wouldn't be able to have any job if they don't give him this role at Fitness First. Their PT manager Ria is just an arrogant big fake smile face who does nothing about some of their dodgy PTs at this club despite legitimate complaints by members. Their sanitising wipes are always empty. Their gym floor is always a complete mess in the mornings. Plates are everywhere. I don't think they actually care about the service quality to customers. Just read how they treat people for cancellations in the reviews!!

Positive experience: Service is very hit or miss. Some people are very attentive, and others just don’t want to help. The gym itself is fine, equipment is nothing special, the main selling point would be the location.
Positive experience: Nice venue but warning re: contract terms. Its a really nice gym, nothing to complain about in terms of the venue and services provided. It's quality, clean, up to date, with equipment often available. Staff are friendly, available when you need them, and helpful. I got a good, discounted price. The classes are good, too. I enjoyed going to this gym, and I would recommend it to someone considering their options. I would just give a heads up that contract terms like "30 days notice period for cancelling" at the end of a term (e.g. 12 month) contract, are blatantly invalid for unfairness (attempting to make a 12m period an obligation to pay in the 13th month), provided that notice is given *any time* prior to the termination of that contract. Consumer affairs Victoria clearly spell this out in relation to gym memberships specifically. They fixed the problem immediately on request, so credit where credit is due. Hopefully they update policies and it never happens again. I would readily return.

Positive experience: Very nice gym, a bit overpriced. Overall is clean and have a lot of space, free weights and good classes. You supposed to have "two free" PT sessions but PT aren't interested in doing it, you have to beg them for coordinating the session, and they're super pushy about hiring more sessions (even before you get the first one). Overall good gym, not so good men PT's

Negative experience: Disgraceful managment who cannot properly handle customer service, they're all smiles and promise you the world and cannot deliver on their words. They also take way too long to get back to you outside of 1 week of business hours. Reception staff are friendly and from what I've seen, some PTs are fairly incompetent too. Wouldn't recommend joining at all
Negative experience: You’re a big scam. You tell people that once payment is done on the counter everything is good and couple of days later u send a request on Debit Success for a double payment while promising them to solve the issue. If u guys want more money ask for it but don’t scam people.
Negative experience: It is just sooo hard to solve anything you need. You can't freeze your membership on the app. You can't solve things by phone. You can't solve in a different club if not the one you signed up. It can stress you out more than relaxing . But they can take your payment by phone..
Negative experience: WORST club in Melbourne. From sales to management, they are all money takers. They don’t respect what’s actually in the contract, from overcharging, to charging during “free/complementary periods “ to creating more loopholes for refunds… honestly the worst experience I’ve had. Also they are never available really hard to deal with this gym. The very worst part is that this doesn’t happen just to me, but I have asked friends and they all share the same thoughts. This club deserves a minus 5 stars rating.
Fantastic experience: From Brissy but in Melbourne for a girls trip and just needed a day pass to train. I called ahead and spoke to Adam…? Sorry, I can’t remember the name but the guy on the phone was super helpful. Staffed hours start at 5am which is great for someone like me that needed to see the admin team to get in. Johs (spelling sorry!) at the desk was super friendly and accommodating. Made the sign up process super efficient and easy. Excellent service, really would recommend the team here.
Fantastic experience: Good, spacious, clean and ample of classes to attend the group training/workout. multiple classes run simultaneously, one can attend based on their choice and timetable.
Fantastic experience: Been training with Anthony Chui for a bit over 6 months. We work together on my weight loss goal and diet plan and so far have been seeing result. Good training variety and open to feedback. The Gym itself is alright, some days it can get crowded, but with some flexibility you shouldn't wait long inbetween exercises.

Fantastic experience: I have met Hossein since 2020 and trained with him for two years. I met him through a referral as my condition involving my legs fit his area of expertise. After my first year of training with him, I realized that my condition is nothing but an excuse to limit myself and I have shown great progress towards my posture and strength. Recently, we have started targeting different regions of the legs with a variety of exercises which will aid me not only in my fitness journey, but also in my daily life as well. Hossein is not only a fitness mentor, he also serves as my life mentor, teaching me to see different situations in a different point of view and overall giving me a more positive outlook for the journey that is to come. He also solved my problems with Vodafone, saving me countless hours on calling tech support Overall, Hossein is the well-rounded PT who makes sure everyone gets the right support and the right treatment to their challenges and problems.
Fantastic experience: Yesterday I tried exercising here, and I was very satisfied, firstly, the service from the staff was very humble and communicative, then the equipment was complete, the facilities were okay in terms of lockers and so on, the place was very spacious.....
Negative experience: I am so tired of companies always trying to over charge me lately that i have decided to call each one out via this platform. I rejoined fitness first in July this year and haven't used it much at all. The payment gets debited each week on time but i have just noticed that instead of debiting $21.70, they have been charging me $31.70 every single week from week 2! I'm blocking you guys asap now let's see what you will do. CHEATERS!
Fantastic experience: Modern and well equipped Fitness First in the city. A little hard to find as you need to access from a shared walkway - escalator which isn’t well signed. Staff super friendly and a highlight is the awesome Friday pm group fitness classes with Levi!
Fantastic experience: Don’t let the price put you off! Initially a bit hesitant about the pricing of the PT services they provide here, I can safely say the significant results I have seen after training here for 2 weeks clearly warrants the price. Shoutout to Anthony Chui who has helped me correct my form for all the major lifts, and is always helping me give 110% during our sessions. I would recommend Anthony to anyone who is looking to transform their body, or just get started at the gym. Way to go!
Negative experience: Was lured in with the promise I could do a 2 weeks trial and cancel my membership within that period should I choose to. Called up to do this, man on the phone straight up lied and told me he’d cancel my membership when I asked. Got charged and called to get a refund, was lied to AGAIN when informed any further payments would be blocked from leaving my account. Had to call a third time to increase the refund I’m due… only time will tell if I was lied to a third time.
Negative experience: One of the best Fitness First locations in Melbourne. Equipment is modern and the location is spacious and spread out. Let down by the lack of equipment cleaning (first thing in the morning equipment is still covered in lifting chalk), broken equipment can sit there broken for lengthy periods and the Personal Trainers will barely acknowledge you. Also the increasing occurrences of staff not showing up when they are due to open sees them marked down (people left waiting for more than 30 mins after their listed opening time before someone actually opens the door … very poor)
Fantastic experience: I've always been a bit uncertain about signing up for a PT, but I'm glad I finally decided to. My chad of a trainer, Anthony, has been helping me get the most out of my gym sessions with some intense exercises and heaps of insightful knowledge on some of the interesting tradeoffs between different kinds of exercises. If you're looking for a trainer with a plan, Anthony's your man!

I have been fortunate to train with Mohammad Babakfar for almost a year now. Mohammad is highly professional with strong work ethics, who treats people with respect and has deep understanding and wealth of knowledge on the subject matter. He designed a fantastic program tailor made for my needs. Much appreciated Mohammad! I can't begin to comment on how positively it has affected the quality of my everyday life. Negative experience: Wanted to give this place a try. Costly experience unfortunately. Gave my PTV card in exchange for a locker. No problem but they lost my card. Girl at desk told me sorry the guy had dyslexia who managed this. Surely can there be a better system and the bad unprofessional service? They gave me the wrong PTV twice.
Fantastic experience: I've been coming here since it opened and love it. Good equipment, nice and spacious, nice layout, airy (natural light) and great classes (esp spin/sprint classes). What stands out for me are the FF employees, trainers etc. Nice people which helps to create a comfortable, safe and rewarding place to be. In simple terms I always enjoy going there and never feel out of place or uncomfortable. The members that go there are all shapes sizes, ages and backgrounds. Once there everyone is the same and there's a nice degree of genuine respect for one another. For me this is a great gym, with great people.

Special mention to Soni personal trainer who worked on my back pain which has seen drastic improvements in last 2 months. thanks for being flexible with your schedule and ensuring I get most to of the time I have with you. Negative experience: Diabolically bad service from the girl at reception with long brunette hair. I accepted the 5-Day trial and after speaking with a membership consultant at the gym I was invited to attend the gym. Upon arrival the brunette girl at reception made me feel like she was going above and beyond to allow me entry as the consultant I spoke with was on a lunch break and then asked what my motivation for trialing the gym was … when I explained I was a previous member for 10+ years and left FF a year ago as I was unhappy with the facilities in Sydney but excited to see what Melbourne was like and potentially rejoin she advised I was no longer welcome as the trial was for new members only and specifically they were trying to attract Anytime Fitness members to come across. Who tells a potential member that as a business they are only interested in attracting members from gyms not affiliated with FF, who let her be customer facing? She also said that I would need up yo 6 months at the gym to know if I want to rejoin and if I enjoyed the gym … wtaf??? Thankfully she reminded me why I left FF in the first place a year ago and will absolutely never return. My bad for accepting the targeted ad for a free trial but thank you awful girl at reception for saving me spending my money with FF again. Ps … I just joined Anytime Fitness, thanks for the recommendation girl at the front desk with long brunette hair.
Negative experience: Not a “Platinum” standard gym from what I have experienced. Standards have slipped over the last few years. It is disappointing that when the gym equipment and other facilities break down it seems to take ages for repairs to be undertaken, the standard of general housekeeping is also a constant negative experience (eg dumbells, kettlebells etc are always difficult to find as they are rarely retuned to their location), equipment is left all over the place and is generally untidy. The other annoyance is that there are not enough boxes and steps, particularly considering the number of people using the gym. And the hand sanitiser and wipes are often empty. I attend the gym as that is where my personal trainer is based and he is a brilliant trainer. Gym is often late opening when the reception cover doesn’t show up for the 5:30am opening time during the week.
Fantastic experience: I didn’t know I would enjoy my gym time, but I've had great training sessions with Sett. He has always been patient and encouraging, and I’m so glad to have him as my trainer. The team are so professional yet so friendly. Keep up the good work guys.

Negative experience: Are you looking for a gym where staff would rather stare at you than greet you as you enter the door? A poorly maintained boxing area where the speed balls are either missing or deflated, and a boxing bag that remains unattached indefinitely? Management that never responds to your feedback, or safety concerns? Then Fitness First Flinders Street is the gym for you.
Positive experience: Great gym with a lot of machines and workout areas. My only complaint is they don’t enforce COVID rules like mask wearing, but you can’t workout unless you’re fully vaccinated which is good.

Negative experience: Fitness First Flinders St have been charging myself and my partner up to double our membership every fortnight via direct debit for nearly a year now. After endless visits, phone calls and emails and being passed from team member to team member to rectify this they have the audacity to try and charge us a cancelation fee. Do not sign up to Finance First. Update: went to consumer affairs, escalated with management and all sorted. Still a waste of time that could have been easily prevented if proper steps were in place for staff and sales. An outdated business model.
Positive experience: Good Gym good equiptment, However none of the TechnoGym machines are connected to the internet so its no possible to login to the WellnessApp and track your performance increase... Why have the kit if its not setup properly? Steam room is more like a hot damp room.
Fantastic experience: Very clean and very comprehensive gym. Came here for the hot yoga class led by Jeffry which was really good. Class was pretty much completely packed out. The routine involve the usual work as well as some highly advanced techniques including headstands.
Negative experience: *** warning*** After being a fitness first member for over 10 year I decided to cancel my rolling account during the pandemic. However they said they would suspend my account and i could decide after the pandemic. I was advised my account would remain suspended until i went to a club to un-suspend it. 3 weeks ago it came to my attention they had been debiting my account for at-least the last 4 months. (after speaking with my bank they made me aware they were debiting my account randomly all throughout the pandemic) After numerous calls to the club with many people not getting back to me. (many of the staff admitting they had been dealing with a lot of upset customers with the same story) 2 weeks later i finally got an email from the club saying there was nothing they would refund and that they unsuspended my account after the last lockdown. also communicated head office would have sent an email and maybe it went to your junk mail. I then called head office and they said they couldn’t override the clubs managers decision. so i asked for them to cancel my account again. The rep said she would cancel the account right away as i had no contract for fitness first to keep me with them. now for what ever reason again they have not cancelled my account and they have tried to charge my account a new fortnightly charge and bank blocked it per my instructions and now they are sending debt collectors for $38. This payment would have only been attempted in the last few days. This company is dirty and wont let you cancel. This is the third time i’ve tried to cancel. I would stay as far away from them as possible. There are far better gyms out there. never again. and ill be seeking legal advice. what a terrible organisation
