Fantastic experience: Genesis lake street Cairns is a fantastic place to train. I highly recommend Coaching Zone, Reformer Pilates and Body Attack Body Balance Sessions. They combine for a complete weekly workout : cardio, strength, stretching. A big Thank you to the trainers : Bailey, Stephanie, Aysah, Diana, Jayne, Megan, Geoffrey!

Negative experience: Is such a shame that being the only gym in the CBD the managers doesn’t care about the old machines they have. The service is incredible tho, but you don’t go to a gym for that.

Negative experience: Worst branch in Cairns really run down equipment with heaps of machines no one needs and not enough of what you actually need. All machines are incredibly old, holes in seats, destroyed padding. Go to the other Genesis or just another gym if you wanna stay in town.

Negative experience: Dear GENESIS HEALTH AND FITNESS I'm stay in Cairns for over 3 years and im not a backpacker, i just wanted to find some where to do gym with good service. I asked them about contract for 3 months but they said $19.95 for 3 months contract, $17.95 for 6 months and $14.95 tor a year. I signed a contract for a year because i thought its the same for everyone. BUT THEY ARE SCAMMER. My friends are backpacker, one from Italy one from another country of Europe, some people from Australia, they paid 3 months for $14.95 and didnt need to do 1 YEAR contract to get the price $14.95 like me. I'm just confused why they tried to FORCE me to sign the 1 year contract for a good price while all people can do the contract 3 months still have good price at $14.95. When I know that i felt like they are racist because i'm an Asian. After that i'm stopped doing gym there also my contract still until MARCH OF THE NEXT YEAR 2026. I'm still paying but i just don't wanna do gym at one place NOT FAIR and RACIST. "I'm still happy to pay $19.95 for 3 months contract if everyone is the SAME"

Fantastic experience: Amazing gym with very helpful staff! Our signup process was made so easy and the instructors who run the classes are fantastic!

Negative experience: The customer service here was absolutely appalling when attempting to start a new membership today. It’s very apparent in other reviews there is issues with their new member’s policies. But the staff member manning the desk around 2:15pm was scoffing, rolling eyes, their first issue was with their door as I attempted to push the door open that stated “push” on the exterior, I got a scolding that I would break it as they need to unlock it on their end after lightly attempting the handles until they unlocked it, couldn’t discuss memberships initially other than their free trial policy needing a local ID. Mentioned I spoke to someone on the phone earlier that called me only needing a work contract, their response was well I wasn’t working earlier, who was it?? And that they don’t accept casual work contracts as I may leave in 3 days. Made it sound as if I was trying to scam them out of a free gym session. Ridiculous. From start to finish the interaction was so defensive and rude, not at all helpful. Mentioned I’m happy to pay for a session to try the gym and was only shown a laminated piece of paper for membership options with the same smug responses. No other alternative was offered such as paying for a single session or a one week paid trial pass. Wouldn’t bother coming back, will join elsewhere.

Positive experience: Estava de passagem na cidade e usei a academia. É 24hs, mas não é todo horário que tem gente pra receber, então precisa ir no horário que tenha alguém da primeira vez. Os equipamentos não são novos, mas são bem conservados. Todos os dias estava bem tranquilo em quantidade de pessoas. São 15 dólares por dia ou 50 dólares a semana.

Negative experience: Old equipment and had terrible customer service experience, would not recommend !

Negative experience: Walked in and within 20 seconds was told to leave. I signed up for a 5 day free trial and when I got there was told to leave since I didn’t work in cairns. Then she felt it was a good idea to pitch me membership options. How am I supposed to commit to a membership if you won’t let me try the gym? Whoever runs this place needs a new business model. I can imagine you guys have many unhappy members

Negative experience: "Free Trial" offer is a bit of a scam. There is no mention of a requirement to be a Cairns resident until you've taken the bait.

They advertise a 2-week free pass but refused to honor it because I don’t have a local driver’s license, even though I provided proof of living here and payslips. This policy is absurd and feels like false advertising. If this is how they treat potential members, I won’t bother signing up

Negative experience: The worst gym I have ever been to and I have been to a lot. Staff members are so rude their customer service is shocking , they laugh in your face. Machines are so dirty even after you wipe them down ruined 2 good pairs of shorts i owned when addressed to management he got so sarcastic with me and walked away. Half the machines don’t work and contracts are shocking to leave this gym. Don’t waste your time

Negative experience: Promote a 5-day free trial but upon arrival it turns out you need to be a resident of Cairns and even then you are forced into getting a membership after the free trial so it’s not really a trial, more just 5 days free before you start paying. When I raised this to the member of staff she just shrugged her shoulders. General attitude of staff was poor, didn’t seem to care about customer service, seemed annoyed when I asked them for help. Towel (which you have to pay for) is laughable. About 30cm square so barely covers a bench let alone your body for the shower. Made of a paper-like material so that it is disposable but just means it is useless as a towel. Please, can the gym just pay the money and provide proper towels, how hard is it? Equipment is good hence not a one star review but even then it’s a bit all over the shop. Dumbbells are all out of order, barbells are left on the floor, barbell locks are scattered around, attachments also scattered, very messy. Go elsewhere!

Negative experience: This is a slow, sleepy, old gym. Old machines and fit out has lots of wear and tear. A big 50+ crowd, perfect for retirees and over 50s. Almost all classes are generally run by individuals in this same age demographic. The atmosphere, music and overall feeling isn't vibrant if you're use to or seeking a modern, prosocial, energetic gym. There's a B Atheletic, NOFOMO gym (new) and Studio Pilates (also new) very close by. Big difference in customer service, likability of the space and inspiration for your workout.

Negative experience: They don’t do free trial and the gym doesn’t even look good, so you can’t even try properly until you pay 15$. No special offers or anything, inscription fees and the lady in the office told me that genesis is a big brand you can find all around Australia (wich is a lie compared to the other company) They should definitely learn how to market the place I’ll give my money elsewhere, so should you

Negative experience: El gimnasio es medio pelo, muy malo, máquinas muy viejas,siempre lleno,terrible olor, no tenes señal nunca adentro y encima no tienen wifi, no te dejan utilizar todos los elementos que hay dentro , no te dejan hacer cortas estadías, 3 meses como mínimo, la verdad sigo viniendo porque no me queda de otra. Fantastic experience: Felt compelled to give a positive review after seeing some negative ones prior to coming. $15 dollar guest pass, great gym with excellent equipment for those that take weight training seriously. Well worth the visit!

Negative experience: Cancelled my membership in May because I knew I was leaving the country at the end of June. Genesis continued charging me (I didn’t realise because I was no longer using my Australian bank account) up until the 24th of July. I raised this issue on the 18th of July and they still continued to charge me for another week (on top of the 5 weeks I had wrongly been charged for). I sent screenshot evidence of the phone call where I cancelled my membership and was accused of lying because the timezone had changed back to UK time despite letting them know I had in fact moved back to England. I was then told the manager would look into my case on Wednesday, I have had to reach out to them again on Thursday because no one has tried to resolve this. I have lost $89 to this company and they have been completely unhelpful, I have been waiting 2 weeks and still no resolution.

Negative experience: I was asked for proof that I was staying in Cairns for a long time to do the free trial. I wouldn't mind but I think they asked me cause they thought I was not a local which i find offensive. They sound like they will make you have huge problems when you try to unsubscribe.

Negative experience: The gym is in good conditions, but the payment system is atrocious and the conditions in their contract are totally unfair. If you don’t have money in your account to pay the weekly fee you get charged an additional week. It’s a ripoff. The gym is good but not so good that it justifies this kind of stuff. Avoid it if you can.

Negative experience: I visited this gym on the recommendation of a friend who suggested me ask for a free trial. Upon arrival, a staff member told me that I couldn't use a free trial because it was only available for people residing in Cairns. He asked for payslips and documents to confirm I wasn't lying. I explained to him that I had just arrived in Cairns from Brisbane two weeks ago and didn't have the documents he was asking for, but he simply refused. In the end, I had to text to my friend to tell him that the gym staff didn't let me in. The facilities are not spectacular; I'll take my money elsewhere.

Negative experience: They keep charging after I canceled. If you have another option, recommend there.

Negative experience: 2 stars for friendly service, I would prefer to leave 1 star because this gym doesn’t take cash for casual customers, correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t the primary focus of a business is to MAKE money? So you’re literally saying “No” to receiving money… Whomever is your marketing manager is the brightest spark in existence…

Negative experience: I’ve been trying to contact them to cancel my membership through the manager email twice and also follow up through Genesis Cairns FB page more than twice, someone has read it but no any response and since I have left the country I wouldn’t be able to contact them. So I asked my friend to call them for me to confirm the cancelation ,it would be more professional if they responded and give me the clarification.

Negative experience: I had a membership out of necessity & it was the worst gym I’ve ever joined. CONS: • rude staff— I’ve never been to a gym with staff that unwelcoming, rude, and unfriendly. the staff don’t seem to care about anything except that you scan your key. • overpriced— the prices are far from reasonable for what you get. the machines & facilities aren’t up to date to be able to charge $118+ a month. • it’s always a search to find equipment. • only have like 4 mats to use and they aren’t even yoga mats. PROS: • close to the espande • locker room has everything; lockers, showers & hair dryers I would only recommend this gym If you’re in need of desperate need of a gym in a central location.

Fantastic experience: Great place for a workout. Many of the machines at the location in the citu feature support for apple and Samsung health applications which is nice. Can't really think of anything that needs improving.

Positive experience: It's very well located but are missing many basic training elements.Sometimes I have to spend 10 minutes looking for the ONLY anklet there is. That among other things. The staff could be more friendly. 

Negative experience: What a disgrace. Encourage five day free trials and then turn their nose up when you arrive to take them up on their offer. I was a genuine customer who will likely become a permanent resident in under a week yet they couldn’t see their way clear to offer me five days to see if I like the facilities? Thanks! Positive experience: A very mediocre gym, nothing special about it. I had to use it as a one time pass just because I was in the area that day. I wouldn’t go back there, it didn’t feel like a modern gym. It’s outdated, missing lots of accessories and it’s just doesn’t feel comfortable in there. Oh also, bring your own towel policy is ridiculous. I’ve seen this rule only in Cairns, Australia; and nowhere else in the world I’ve been.

Fantastic experience: This place is one of the best gyms have ever attended. It is a place where people feel safe and supported! The facilities are amazing: Coaching Sone, Evolt Scan, Reformer Pilates, Les Mills classes, fantastic array of cardio equipment, stretching zone and weights area! Keith and all the ladies at the desk are warm, welcoming and know their customers, Asa, Jodie, Meagan and Tay Tay on the CZ floor are staunch and push people to the max! Best fitness space!

Positive experience: Oft weiß man in diesem Fitnessstudio nicht, wie viel Gewicht man jetzt wirklich bewegt. Es stehen dort nur die Zahlen von 1-10. Cardio Maschinen sind super auch mit eingebauter Lüftung. Ebenso die Spinde und der Umkleideraum allgemein. Der Freihantelbereich ist nichts für mich, da man sich immer absuchen muss nach dem richtigen Gewicht und die Hanteln nicht richtig auf den Knien bleiben und abrutschen können. Maschinen wie T-Bar Row oder Hacksquats sind jedoch sehr positiv und man hat schon alles da für ein ordentliches Training!

Negative experience: So bad , They kick me out of the gym just because I’m wearing a slipper. I’m baring my towel for public use so the is make sense but a slipper I don’t understand at all I stand on my feet all time and no one is will touch my feet anyway, so I don’t what is the problem at all and also they point a finger at my face and tell me to leave, I mean it a mean thing to do to strangers. And I has been to another gym or another genesis gym. I do not recommend this gym at all, is has so many gym more that better than this and cheaper than this. This is the worst gym ever!!!

Fantastic experience: We bought a day pass $15 (for a once off pass) and we were really impressed. Lots of equipment, not too busy, very clean and staff were really friendly!

Negative experience: Signed up with a no lock in contract asked a staff member if i can just cancel when I need to and if there is any notice required. I was told that no notice required with the no lock in contract cancelled today and found out that I was given false information by one of their staff members and have to pay for a month still. Gym is pretty pricy with an average setup and a lot of the time you’re forever waiting for equipment. I would recommend going to another gym with better prices and more knowledgeable staff, Many people I’ve spoke with have had the same experience as well.

Positive experience: Really good gym, we did a 2 week pass which was good value for money for a 24 hour gym access, a great size gym, equipment available. Surprised this gym isn't busier for its location. Only star dropped was because of the quality of some of the equipment - a lot was quite worn. And some of the people using the gym aren't the best at retuning plates etc. Which could be better managed.

Negative experience: I'm currently a student staying short term in Cairns and this place is the local gym. They wouldn't do a trial or short-term membership while I am here and wanted $15 a day to train. Staff were polite but students are coming and going in this city and this company needs to find a better means for memberships on a short term basis instead of money gauging students. Be aware if staying short term!

Positive experience: Huge gym, not the newest equipment but plenty of if.

Positive experience: The cardio machines need major upgrade. Buttons are hard to push and don't always incline. Had to change treadmill many times till I could use with ease but still took a long time to get the button to go up in speed.

Positive experience: Gym has everything you need, though the equipment is for the most part average. There are often missing carabiners from the pin weight machines. I think other members are responsible for the misplaced items, though the gym should really be on top of this. A really good thing that genesis did for me though was cancel my membership early, due to the rona and related financial constraints. My partner and I dealt with Kieth via email to get this done. While Kieth did end up getting our cancellations sorted, his demeanour was someone righteous, blunt and condescending. Furthermore, he never got back to us to inform us that he’d successfully cancelled our memberships. It took me to ring head office to find out that he’d done what he said he would. That being said, my experience with the staff has been pretty good. Wouldn’t take Kieth out for dinner, but the others are really quite pleasant. I think they could do a bit more to ensure the tidiness of the gym. Often it seems there are weights strewn about the gym and staff could be tidying it up or educating the members that are responsible, but alas, the appeal of the seats at the front counter seems to have a much stronger allure. Locally, and more affordable, in my honest opinion, if you can get to PCYC, your money gets you a lot more and for less.

Negative experience: I injured my back at the gym, I have since tried to cancel my membership at Genesis Health and Fitness Lake Street Cairns but Keith the Gym Manager doesn’t return phone message or emails. I emailed Keith Physio receipts, kept Keith informed of my ongoing injury. When I tried to cancel my membership Keith ignored me. Genesis Health and Fitness Lake Street Cairns are happy to take your money but not in a hurry to cancel my membership or have the courtesy to return messages. My wife rang the Genesis Health and Fitness Head Office in Bayswater, Victoria, they didn’t want to know about it. Referred the issue back to the local Manager Keith who doesn’t return phone message or emails. My initial injury was approx. 14 weeks ago. There are plenty of other Gym’s in Cairns I would consider before going back to Genesis Health and Fitness Lake Street Cairns. Disappointing and unprofessional.

Negative experience: Was told that coaching area equipment can be used As long as it doesn’t impede sessions , which is fair. However , a trainer waited until a group session was Halfway through before telling me he needed the cross trainer I was using for his group. He Could have told me that at the beginning , before his class started and not kicked me off the machine during the session with everyone watching me. I understand that there are designated areas but that was poor communication and it wasn’t a good experience.

Positive experience: Good gym, nice gear but not really friendly staff. We came 3 time during our journey and each time no "hi" but just "you don't have a key, it's 15$"... So weird. But the gym is nice

Negative experience: Regret signing up with this gym. Told my partner and I we were coming in for a tour and we were immediately sat down to sign a contract with no tour and no time to actually think about if we WANTED to sign the contract. Now I'm trying to cancel as I can't get to the gym and I'm being deliberately ignored and they're taking their sweet time getting back to me. Very unprofessional. If they won't let me cancel the current agreement I would never sign up for more time with them

Fantastic experience: I was in Cairns for a week and was looking for a gym. My gym in NSW is a genesis gym so I gave the Cairns Lake Street gym a go. I bought a week pass and visited three times. I took the body balance, pump and core classes and was very happy with the standard of instruction. I also did my own workout and found enough space/equipment for the weights and stretches I do. This gym worked really well for me - great and easy communication, good equipment and excellent instructors. Very friendly place too.

Fantastic experience: I tried a few different gyms when I moved to a Cairns and I didn't really like any of them. I walked into Genesis not having the highest of hopes and I was pleasantly surprised. From the moment I walked in the staff were lovely and really took the time to understand my goals. The coaching zone classes are great. There is a lot of encouragement from the trainer's as well as the other members. I do look forward to going in. Thank you!

Fantastic experience: As someone who has always felt self - conscious working out in a gym, I've finally found a place where those feelings don't exist. All the staff I've had dealings with are professional, knowledgeable and supportive. The group fitness classes are amazing, and I love that the staff both observe and correct form, all the time remaining encouraging. I would recommend Genesis, Lake Street to anyone who is trying to decide on a gym in Cairns to attend.
