The Fit Stop, in St Kilda East, is an independently owned & operated personal training & group training facility. We have been here at 240 Inkeman St around 10 years now, with hundreds (or thousands) of local residents having come through our doors. We offer 1-1 personal training and small group training, only from high level, experienced, educated coaches who are in the top tier of the industry. Fantastic experience: I have been training with Ben for over 2 years. Ben is a very knowledgeable personal trainer who offers an holistic approach to training and wellbeing. We discuss diet, physio, mind + meditation work. He is much more than your regular PT! Ben is patient, encouraging and motivating and has helped me regain my strength and confidence since having cancer treatment.

Fantastic experience: I first saw Ben for knee pain and general unfitness, and now I'm moving house and going to music festivals without my back or my knees aching and holding me back for days afterwards. Ben is fantastic at identifying where your bottlenecks are and helping you strengthen them until you're able to do things you never thought you'd be able to do. Then you find the next bottleneck and the process starts again, but now I can do 100 lunges in a row instead of wobbling and falling over after doing three. Ben is also excellent at customising plans to your specific needs, both in terms of fitness but more importantly will adjust the pace to keep you feeling comfortable and able to keep up. If you're worried about being thrown into the deep end, Ben has all the metaphorical floaties you need until you're ready to lift on your own.

Fantastic experience: I've been training with Ben for about 7 years. I started training with him after I had my daughter in the hope he could help sort out my back pain and help me regain some fitness. Ben takes a holistic approach and focuses on technique and functional mobility. He pushes you but also makes it easy to train even if you're having an off day. He keeps sessions fun and interesting and I always look forward to my training days. I no longer suffer from back pain and I feel stronger then ever. Training with Ben has been life changing for me physically and mentally. I would without question recommend Ben to anyone. He is by far the best trainer I've ever had and his knowledge and passion for fitness and overall health is next to none. I think the number of years each of his clients have been with him is a great indicator and testament of his amazing abilities.

Fantastic experience: I've worked with a couple of personal trainers over the last 7-8 years, so I sort of knew what I wanted and what I didn't want (to feel sick after exercising), and after first meeting with Ben back in March, I realise there was a lot I didn't know. Especially about mobility and functional training. My goal was weight loss and a healthier lifestyle, to be challenged and feel better in an aging body (39 but felt creaky and rusty). Ben has a holistic approach and is a wealth of knowledge in how the body moves; that this is connected to that, and how a little tweaking or loosening here and there (albeit a little painful), improves my technique or form in whatever exercise he has me doing, and eventually strengthens my body and reduces those pain points. In all the focus there is also a lot of laughter, Ben is easy going and a joy to work with, even after he makes me do more bear crawls or makes me swing around a kettle bell. Couldn't ask for a better PT!

Fantastic experience: I can honestly say Ben has changed my attitude towards fitness! A blissfully chill dude, he has such a relaxed, holistic approach that encourages a healthy mindset in all avenues of life - mind, body and spirit. He is extremely generous with his knowledge, kindness and praise towards my Turkish get up skills. I have never been a fan of trainers that bark orders so to find somebody who will work *with* you in order to get the best out of your body's strength and functionality is truly amazing. And a good conversationalist to boot! One criticism is that I know far too many Bens so I have to always refer to him as "Trainer Ben" to my partner which feels silly to say.

Fantastic experience: I have been training with Ben & Matt for over three years and it has been without a doubt the best training I have ever done (and I have been a long term fitness/gym participant!) Focus is around creating long term, sustainable health routines and I love how strong it has made me. Fantastic experience: Ben Longley is hands-down the best trainer I've ever used, in Australia or America. At The Fit Stop you get the old-school simplicity of a humble (but fully equipped) gym combined with a comprehensive and holistic approach to training that goes far beyond building muscle or getting in shape. The approach is as much physiological as it is physical, with an eye toward the body as a system, not a vanity project. Expect to learn about nutrition, sleep, emotional regulation and other facets of being human in the workaday world, but all in a manner that is entirely free of dogma and militant-style discipline. I cannot recommend this gym and Ben, and by extension his staff, highly enough.

Fantastic experience: Appreciate with Ben’s help. He’s not just a trainer who help you build your body. He’s also an excellent mentor who focus on your emotion and life attitude. Another thing I think he does well is that he would put your general health status at first, but not just pay attention to the outcome. By the way, I already lost 16kg. Thanks for his help. Fantastic experience: I love training at the fit stop and have done so for over 4 years. The trainers are extremely knowledgable, I love the group sessions there as they are always a good balance of strength, cardio, flexibility. They are also fun and there is a really great community at the fit stop. I also find the gym management (Ben and Co.) to be very supportive and family friendly. Highly recommend if you're living around the area :-)

Fantastic experience: Ben and Matt have really built a community at The Fit Stop that loves fitness and training without taking ourselves too seriously. When we couldn't meet at the gym they were quick to mobilise to online training and we didn't miss a day. While it's not the same as the feeling of actually being there the online classes mean you're still part of the action and I can't wait to get back into the gym. All the trainers at The Fit Stop really care about each member's specific needs. Would recommend to anyone.

They have been incredible during the COVID pandemic offering 3 group sessions a day via zoom. Morning, lunch and evening!! Fantastic experience: I have been a member of The Fit Stop for over 2 years now. The staff there are very professional, knowledgeable & experienced. The group classes are small with the trainers focusing on good technique for each participant. It is a very friendly & welcoming environment with a lot of the clients being long term. Staff are also willing to share their knowledge when it comes to nutritional guidance & have a holistic approach to being fit & healthy. I definitely recommend giving The Fit Stop a go.

Fantastic experience: As a former trainer at the Fit Stop [BEXSc (Hons), PhD] I would highly recommend this training facility. The facility is spacious, welcoming and the knowledge of the trainers is exceptional. The group classes are small in size (6-8 persons) with a focus on good technique and gradual safe progression! The trainers keep you accountable and ensure to provide exercise variations where appropriate to account for differing training levels, and with an element of education instilled into each session, clients are well prepared to train smart and safely on their own if required. Overall, the Fit Stop is the bee’s knee’s and client retention speaks for itself, with a large portion of clients approaching 5-10 years of training! You’ll be in good hands!

Fantastic experience: All of the trainers are so professional and well credentialed. Whether you are looking to do a group class or a one on one I highly recommend the Fit Stop. I like the fact that one of the trainers will go through an introduction with you to see where you are at and then place you in a training environment that will benefit you the most. Fantastic experience: I have been going to these guys twice a week for nearly three years. As a man in his sixties with arthritic knees Matt devised a training program that has enhanced the muscles around my knees which has dramatically lessened the pain while toning the rest of me up. I have since moved interstate so unfortunately can not now attend but would recommend Ben, Matt and Fit Stop St Kilda for not only their professionalism but for the friendship that grew!

Fantastic experience: I have been a member at The Fit Stop for over a year now and it is by far the best gym that I have attended. Originally I started attending twice a week but quickly increased my attendance to 3 times per week. I feel so much stronger and fitter but in addition to that I feel like I've gained so much knowledge and confidence. Ben and Matt are exceptional trainers and they tailor group sessions to individual needs based on mobility, injury and ability. They encourage me to push myself further under an expert and watchful eye. This is a gym where everyone is welcome and made to feel at ease. It is not intimidating and there is a real sense of community throughout the gym. I never thought I would get to the stage where I look forward to going to the gym but at The Fit Stop I do!

Fantastic experience: I've been training at The Fit Stop for 9 years. The expertise and skill of Ben and his team is exceptional, as is the personalised support. But equally unique is the sense of community - it's such a supportive, friendly and welcoming place to train. No big egos or skimpy gear here! Fantastic experience: I have been training at The Fit Stop for almost three years now. Originally encouraged by Ben, after being quite sick and niggling back issues. From my initial hesitation because it had been so long since I had been at the gym I have grown in confidence and strength. Fantastic experience: Have been with the usual run of the mill gyms and always wondered if my techniques were right. I decided to join The Fit Stop and get some personal training and it's the best thing I've done. Not only are these guys skilled at their trade they're very knowledgeable on all aspects of physical health and how to fix/improve any issues you may have. I've been with Fit Stop for 7 months now and can say my mobility has improved to a point I never thought I'd get back. I can now squat a little deeper but I still need to work on it to improve to get to where I feel happy within myself. I never would have achieved this if it wasn't for Matt and the Fit Stop Team. I also now have the knowledge to be able to use new tools which I previously didn't know existed since I've have been stuck in yesterday’s tried and tested techniques. As time progresses so does the science of training. I’ve learned to use more free weights, elastic bands, trx and your own body weight. You don’t need machines to train you. I’m looking forward to learning more from Matt and the wider team and improve my fitness levels even more. If you're looking for a new gym then please try the Fit Stop Team. These guys are so friendly and so welcoming. You won’t be disappointed!

Fantastic experience: Ben and Matt at The Fit Stop are both very knowledgeable and passionate about your fitness and general well being. I do the small group training but they take the time to adjust this to accomodate your personal needs. They are also motivating and supportive. You’ll find loads of great guys at this gym who have trained with Ben and Matt for a long time which I think is testament to how great The Fit Stop is. If you’re looking for a place to train and find the fitter you, you won’t find anywhere better in St Kilda East.

Fantastic experience: I’ve worked out with Ben and Matt at The FitStop for more than four years now. They’re not only knowledgeable trainers—they also genuinely care. Ben and Matt have helped me modify my sessions to deal with my chronic knee issues, and my pain has decreased through building strength. Fantastic experience: I have been training at The Fit Stop twice a week for a year now and I can’t recommend it highly enough! I had never been to personal training before and was a bit scared but that soon disappeared as The Fit Stop is such a welcoming, supportive and friendly environment! My goal was to simply tone up my body and I can definitely see significant changes and definition in my arms, legs and glutes. Ben is a wonderful trainer and I have learnt so much about the body, exercise and correct technique from him. Fantastic experience: I’ve been training with Ben Longley at The Fit Stop for just over five months. I didn’t know what to expect when I went for my initial assessment – immediately, Ben made me feel comfortable and showed genuine interest in what I wanted to achieve. I was very impressed that at no stage did I feel pressured into organising anything with which I was not comfortable. I started training a few times a week, as part of the small group sessions, I really enjoyed the variety & challenges put into the sessions. As an absolute beginner, I was happy that the sessions were set up to allow me to work at my own pace. To further develop my goals I took on one-on-one sessions as well which I have found to be a great benefit in furthering my progress. Ben is a focused trainer, with a wealth of knowledge – from nutrition to anatomy, health science and conditioning. Each small group session or one-on-one session is a challenge, pushing me out of my comfort zone. Ben always ensures my technique is correct to avoid any possibility of injuries. My fitness and strength has increased dramatically and I’ve seen massive improvements in my ability to lift progressively heavier weights & push myself harder throughout each session. I never thought I’d be the kind of person who actually looks forward to training, but I am now! I believe Ben to be one of the most experienced & committed trainers around. Not only does he have a strong knowledge of anatomy, fitness and bodybuilding but Ben’s expertise in nutrition and eating well is second to none.
