Positive experience: Great gym with everything you need to train and really good staff and people around Only thing is this is the only gym I’ve been too that does not have a water fountain and the urinal in the mens room sprays water back at you after flushing it Otherwise it would genuinely be a 5 star gym

Fantastic experience: I first became a member in 2008 and have loved the training experience. Graeme, the owner, is a wealth of knowledge. The staff are welcoming, members are friendly, and the gym is always organised in relation to weights being put away.

Fantastic experience: Such an amazing gym, would go as far as saying my favourite in Melbourne. Will not find equipment like this anywhere else, made by people who knew how to train!!! Been here twice and wish I was local to the area just popped in for a casual visit today, would recommend to anybody! Owners/employees really do give a shit, make a great effort to keep the place clean Thanks legends for a great workout, absolute ripping gym!

Fantastic experience: Best old school gym ever Staff amazing.

Positive experience: This is going to be as fair of a review as I can give and my points should be taken as constructive. In no way is this an attack on the gym and my time here overall has been quite pleasant. First impressions of the gym: at first I was taken back by the awesome and very well kept old-school equipment. With a large machine area that’s well equiped with almost everything you could need and clearly very meticulously up kept it’s quite hard to fault. My only issue with it being a personal one. I am 6’3 and I find myself having a hard time getting a great stretch and full ROM on a few of the machines such as the lat pull down and a good stretch in the lowered position on most of the chest equipment. I find myself just being slightly too tall for them which is frustrating but no points lost here. Definitely a consideration for taller folk that take their training seriously though. The gym also only has one multi-adjustable cable machine. It’s certainly ageing and again lacks adjustment for taller folk. I think a newer cable machine would be a fantastic addition to this gym. The leg machines here are unmatched, good luck finding such a range of quality leg machines anywhere else. They are all awesome. Moving on to the free weight area. This is probably my biggest gripe with the gym. With a bunch of free weights ranging from light too heavy but with one frustrating issue. The weights increase incrementally until you reach 25kg. Then it skips the 27.5kg dumbbells and goes to 30kg BUT there are 3 pairs of 30kg dumbbells WHY??? This is silly and I have spoken too and noticed other gym goers confused and irritated by this. As someone who takes progressive overload seriously I can’t help but be frustrated by this. the jump from a pair of 25kgs to 30kgs is massive on some lifts. A new set of 27.5kg dumbbells would be another huge addition to this gym. The gym features a very well equipped cardio area, again it is showing its age but it all seems to be of a high quality and well kept, it does what’s intended without issue. The ammenities: something to note, the gym has no bubbler / water fountain so you are forced to either fill your bottle in the toilets (eww) or stick your hand over the counter and use the sink in the reception area which is quite uncomfortable. The toilets are kept clean at all times with some funny notes for members to adhere too. “Big boys flush the urinal” yeah well that would be nice if the urinal didn’t spray toilet water all over the place and most certainly on the person who flushes it. This is really bad and should be fixed/replaced as soon as possible. Lastly, I’ve had issues with trying to process my membership cancellation. I’ve both emailed and texted (which I can see have both been received and read by the number holder) regarding a confirmation of my cancellation but have flat out been ignored multiple times. This is really disappointing and I would appreciate some kind of communications regarding this as I am still being charged and would like confirmation of when I should expect that to stop. The staff here for the most part are quite pleasant and I would have thought it wouldn’t have been too much of a bother to send a confirmation email or text even. Overall it’s a really cool gym which has some things that really should be addressed. If you’re taller maybe consider elsewhere.their communications seriously need improving. 3.5/5

Fantastic experience: The best gym i've ever had a membership with. Unfortunately I had to cancel because I moved away but highly recommend anyone in the Preston or Thornbury area to give this place a try!

Positive experience: It's a good gym I would call it the Average joe gym were you don't get the heroes we're you find them at almost every other gym

Fantastic experience: I have been a member for a week, so I do not know a ton about this gym but from my experience I believe it has a wide variety of equipment to match how you want to train which I find very helpful. I also find it is at a good price and definitely is great value to get a membership here if you train here often. Staff are friendly and the people working out here are also very friendly and supportive. I would highly recommend going here if you want to improve your fitness and health overall.

Fantastic experience: Massive gym, heaps of equipment and well priced. Best part? it’s not full of meat heads like other gyms in the area.

Negative experience: I’ve been a member for over a year now, and never have I been more disappointed in a staff member who came up to me mid set to tell me that my gym membership was expired and that I was working out for free and demanded that I pay a causal fee or renew my membership. This person has only been working there not long and everytime I’ve walked in he has been extremely rude. Multiple people walk into this gym without paying as I’ve noticed numerous times and the members who do the right thing pay the price for it. This person needs a review as many other people I’ve spoken to in the gym also find him quite rude and unfriendly to loyal customers. Not sure what has happened to this gym but I’ll never be going back again.

Fantastic experience: I was a member for a year. By far the best and the cheapest gym in the area. All the staff were quite friendly. There are loads of equipments, even in peak hours there are plenty of machines available.

Fantastic experience: Loads of equipment - both free weights and machine for basically every exercise. Nice parking, but space can be tight on a weeknight. Most importantly, they hands down play the best music even if there's ads.

Fantastic experience: Althletique is the ultimate vibe! So great <3 I decided to give it a try after a gross experience at a gym down the road… The equipment at Athletique is groovy, they’ve all the machines PLUS more, the club members are respectful, the cleanliness is immaculate and it feels like you’re in the retro Arnold Shearzenegger gym of your dreams. I felt welcomed with a personalised tour & have always felt like an actual human. It all confirmed that local is the way to go. Thankyou Graeme, Pina & the team. Absolute legends.

Fantastic experience: Great gym. I have been a member for 10 years and now moving house. Plenty of equipment all times of the day, multiples of all machines and well spaced out. Clean facilities, plus it has a great Osteo on site. Plenty of street and undercover parking. The best part was the gym culture, friendly staff, respectable and always tidy. Highly recommend if you live in the area.

Fantastic experience: Athletique is a long established gym in the area. Owned & operated family business and not only that the Owner's Pina & Graeme one of the best known bodybuilding legends of all time and associated with NABBA. They are such wonderful people. The gym has a great environment everyone super friendly and the floor space is huge... So no matter how busy it doesn't feel cramped or packed. Great membership prices. Just awesome. I love it thanks Pina &Graeme.☺

Fantastic experience: Huge gym that has an amazing array of old school bodybuilding equipment that are well maintained and serviced. Cardio equipment isn’t the latest however functionally works all well. Staff have been consistently warm and friendly. The clientele have been all courtesy, putting away their equipment which is great. Great value for money and ample undercover car parking. Highly recommended.

Fantastic experience: Best Gym to train at, with the best training equipment found only at this gym in Melbourne.

Negative experience: Colder inside then it is outside on a freezing June's day.. No central heating or aircon for years now, with no sign of having it repaired anytime soon. Good range of equipment.

Positive experience: This is one of those real oldschool gyms that have character. The equipment looks like it's been worked on, the layout is sensible, and the attendants are very no-nonsense. My first problem is that the gym is on the top floor of a building, and accessible by a very narrow and windy staircase. Suppose someone's on crutches and wants to do rehab exercises in your gym, how are they going to do this? Another issue is that the changing room has a smooth floor. Not only do these get filthy when people stand on them all day but they can get slippery when wet and soapy, which is an additional problem because people use soap to shower themselves. Think of peoples' safety, please.

Positive experience: Ok convenient for kids who go to thornbury since it's down the road.

Negative experience: Ascend past several a floor, here it lie a dwelling both lack and luster. Before i divulge what it entails herein. I begin to relinquish myself, for i am a man of and in pursuit of grand magnitude and girth. What is it I discover? A place of depravity above loathing. What i experience engulfs the loins from mein breadth. For what? Mein kopf, it pains to no end. What do i see? Men of the night, obsene men who flex to no end. For whom? I am without question, that here hath evoke no love nor exacrly what I am willing to provide. Exact my thoughts, and take my girth. I am a strong man, i do not doubt. So strong. Experience the girth. Take what i give. Many man hath come and many men will. Okay. So overally, not bad.

Fantastic experience: Are you looking for a gym where you can have a great workout, without having to wait in line to use a machine, for a cheap price and without fancy surcharges? You found it. Essential and spartan gym, as any gym should be (if you want to train and not simply show off or brag)..

Positive experience: Nice gym. Not the best staff.

Positive experience: Nice equipment, clean gym. Misses out on 5 stars due to not being allowed to deadlift a certain way because it "distrupts people downstairs and others working out". Was told I was "banging" the weight on the floor despite having video proof of putting the weight down in a controlled manner. Maybe install some deadlift platforms so this isn't an issue in the future. The sound of clanking plates and a barbell isn't going to disturb anyone's workout, it's a gym not a library.
