Westgate Health Club

Negative experience: My daughter signed up on a classic membership. ( $17.95 per week ) approx 9 months ago. Fortunately she checks her bank statements as over the past month, Westgate Health Club has been direct debiting over $50 per fortnight with no change to membership and no explanation. She has requested this excess direct debiting to be stopped. No response from Westgate Health Club.. She has requested a refund of the excess direct debiting with email confirmation when completed . No response from Westgate Health Club.. She has requested advise as to when this issue will be sorted. No response from Westgate Health club.. She decided to cancel membership at the Westgate Health club. At least she got a response to that one...........................pay another month of membership. no doubt at the new $50plus per fortnight rate.............................................................................. Hi, In response to Westgate Health Club comments.. My daughters Bank statement filtering automatic withdrawal from Westgate Health Club attached showing overcharges made by Westgate yet claimed not to exist. 2 x further concerns arise from Westgate Health Club response to the initial review. Firstly, Westgate were adamant that overcharges had not occurred. The attached Bank statement says different. Do they not know how much the members are being direct debited for membership at their own gym? This is a concern. Secondly, after having seen the overcharge on her bank statement on Nov 10, and having raised the issue with Westgate via emails, no reply was received until a review was published on Google 4 days later. Had a response been provided within a couple of days, i would not have written the negative review. There appears to be a difference in the speed of response times depending on whether a member has concerns relating to overcharging on direct debit or there is a negative review or membership cancellation. These later topics appear to attract an immediate response along of course with the direct debit of the 4 weeks required pay out to cancel membership. ( see also attached bank statement on the speed between last direct debit and cancellation payout. ) As requested in the emails, pls refund excess monies withdrawn via direct debit and confirm/ ensure no further monies withdrawn from the account via direct debit.

Positive experience: Great gym! Ive been training here for a long time. Positives are new equipment, great people and membership price is cheap. Downsides closes at 3pm on the weekends, good fly machine is now in female section and the great gym manager corey is leaving.

Fantastic experience: Great location with so many activities at one place. Indoor soccer, indoor sand volley ball, rock climbing, gym, martial arts, kick boxing and they are adding a lap pool. Westgate reception centre, child care and much more.

Fantastic experience: Took Tish's class on a Wednesday night and absolutely LOVED it!!! There was an awesome variety of exercises/equipment, a great space to train in and just an overall great, comfortable vibe. I got to learn a few exercises I hadn't done before and Tish was an incredible instructor - made me feel really comfortable as it was my first time there and thoroughly explained the movements. Highly recommend and DEFINITELY going again.

Fantastic experience: Clean, well maintained local gym in a Recreation Centre housing many related businesses. Some pin machines are older but all are in good working order.

Fantastic experience: Fave gym to come to by far! You aren't bothered and it's not over crowded. Can have a quiet work out sesh to yourself with great quality equipment, it's reasonably priced and everything is here in the one place. I used to come here back in the day to Rock-climb frequently. Will definately be making that and gym a regular thing now!

Fantastic experience: Recently revamped WHC has friendly staff, lots of space and some hidden gem equipment. It's not globo gym and its all for a $10 a week.

Fantastic experience: Great classes, really good variety suiting all fitness levels. Nice quite and private spot for women to work out. Gym and cardio machines up to date and in good order. Nice and spacious and open- no suffocating perspiration smell! Love going here a few times a week, missed it when we were in lockdown- love my workout family!

Fantastic experience: New management new equipment new look exciting times everyone has freedom of speech but with everything us Victorian’s have been through I can not fault the management for anything I’ve trained at a lot of gyms and never been treated better or felt so comfortable .. Fantastic experience: I have visited this gym a couple of times for a Zumba fitnesa class. I love the layout of the fitness stage and Nina was so amazing!!! She had so much energy and the class enjoyed the party vibe. So, thankful that this gym has had a revamp and I am looking forward to seeing what else has been improved with the NEW management ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Fantastic experience: I can't speak highly enough about the Westgate Health Club since the new management (March 2020) renovated last year. There are plenty of free weights and machines, cardio options, boxing area, conditioning equipment, a great range of group classes (power bar, cycle and Strong are my current favorites) and times, friendly staff, and encouraging trainers! Nice play area for kids too in the group fitness room so the young ones can stay safe during a class.

Fantastic experience: Very happy with this Gym. I've seen bad reviews due to previous management but the "new" guys are a lot better! Love my regulars who I train with in the mornings. They also have been awesome with suspension of m/ships over the Vic closures. Keep up the good work guys - DEBfit Master Trainer.

Fantastic experience: I have been a member of Westgate for over 20years and although I have enjoyed the local facility, the new ownership and management are amazing. The transformation of the Gym, circuit classes and overall adjoining facilities are first class. No money has been spared on the facility with the latest equipment and the culture is fun and motivating I highly recommend Westgate Gym 10/10 Regards, Peter

Fantastic experience: Done a few casuals here and you can tell the new management are a breath of fresh air. Nicely re-done and a huge space to train. All the free weights and squat racks you need downstairs and top of the range cardio upstairs. There's a great space for functional training and boxing upstairs along with a ladies only gym and a large studio for some group fitness classes. Some of the weights are pretty old school....but you know what, they're some of the best! I'm now a member as memberships start at less than $10 a week for no contract!!!! An absolute no brainer!!!! Great gym and great staff!!!!

Fantastic experience: What a great gym! The staff are friendly and there is so much room!! For me I have plenty of room to do my boxing training and any floor training, there is a large selection of floor weights, bars, sleds, kettlebells, weighted balls etc. If you like your space and hate having to squash in around others in a tiny room this is the place to be. The cardio equipment seems pretty new, the resistance equipment is not new but lets be honest weights don't need to look fancy. The weekly fee is more than reasonable and there is no lock in contract. Highly recommend

Fantastic experience: New owners as of a few months ago, have really turned the place around from the previous bloke, he was a shark. Heaps of new equipment, newly renovated and feels great to train in. Very friendly and great customer service. Would recommend anyone give it a go, become one of the best gyms around! Can't wait till these restrictions are lifted so I can get back into training properly.

Negative experience: They where so nice to me until they got their hands on my money. After that they wouldn't even say HELLO. Rude, rude, rude..

Negative experience: Worst Gym in the world for taking money AFTER you have cancelled your membership! My membership was cancelled in 2019 and in May 2020 they are still taking money from my account! When I cancelled my account I completed a form, asked the guy if there was anything else I need to do or pay He simply replied " No you're all done!" They have continued to take money from my account stating I had to pay a 4 week cancellation fee. While STILL charging me a monthly fee! This place is a joke - DO NOT SIGN UP WITH THEM

Negative experience: Woke up at 6:30 on sat to train get here at 7 gym is closed.

Negative experience: The equipment is worn some of the cardio machines don't work and they're limited as it is and like a lot of the other comments they do not cancel your membership at the cut off date. The staff are pleasant until you ask for the unsubscribe form then they don't want you know you.

Negative experience: ***Warning*** Like the others said, they do NOT stop your direct debit after you cancel it, and the worse is, they do NOT want to refund you. Stay away from them unless you want to sign up for a life-time membership. My partner and I canceled our membership, paid our 4-weeks notice period and were then charged for an additional 3 weeks. Week 1 - We called them and they said they will refund us the overcharge by Thursday. Week 2 - No refund received, but, coincidently, we found out they only canceled one membership after the call last week. They reassured us we should receive the refund by Thursday. Week 3 - Still no refund as promised, They claimed that the refund was done on Monday and we should receive it by Thursday AGAIN. Week 4 - Nothing has been received after 3 weeks. We requested them to forward us the proof of the request being sent, and we found out that they had ONLY sent the request when we asked them to forward the email - this shows that they were dishonest the whole time. There are also other reviews suggesting that this did not just happened to us. I wish I've seen them before I went to that gym. Btw, about this gym, it's just old and small and not good at all. I hope this can help other people.

Negative experience: I went to Westgate Gym casually just to see if I liked it. I went four times all up and the guys at the desk made their sales pitch every single time, despite me saying I wanted to test it before committing. They kept pushing me to go to that P45 program or whatever it’s called and to pay a lump sum up front. I get that it’s a business but when there’s so much choice out there, it just reeked of desperation and ultimately drove me away. On the gym itself, I only ever went to the women’s gym, if you can call it that. The equipment is pretty sad. One treadmill doesn’t incline, there’s no water, random dumbbells with different weights missing, it’s just sparse basically. I’ve been a member at 5 different gyms over the years and this gym would have to be the saddest of all of them. I ended up joining RecWest in Footscray and I absolutely love it. The equipment is top quality, there’s tons of support and you’re spoiled for choice. The best part is nobody is forcing a membership down your throat!

Fantastic experience: At $10 at the door and $12per week membership this Great starting gym for those who want to get fit and not have to worrie about all the big complex machinery, the equipment is a little old but works great and does the job, the staff are super friendly and welcoming. Id recommend this place to anyone who is wanting to get fit.

Positive experience: Cost is now $10, not 5. Have enough equipment to suffice. Some of the gear is a little old, though perfectly functional.

Negative experience: The gym is old and there is lots dust everywhere. Also if you are going to go to this gym DO NOT sign up for direct debit. The owner will be keep direct debiting your bank account when you have CLEARLY told him in emails that you are overseas. I've been to many of gyms in the western suburbs and West Gate is by far the worse gym.

Negative experience: Dire. Equipment is like home gym gear from 1935, few Olympic free weight plates, equipment old tatty and I doubt it's safety. My entry was free and I still feel overcharged. This gym is awful, it needs to be closed, gutted, and proper equipment and benches bought. One star only for the leg machines but that's it. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE TONY DOHERTY open up a Dohertys 24/7 in the area Westgate is trying to be "hardcore" but is just a dump

Negative experience: Mostly everything in the females is 100 years old and broken. 4 out of 5 of the treadmills don't work, 1 out of 6 bikes work, the stair master is making a dangerous bang when used, the cross trainer is wobbly. What kind of joke is this gym?!?

Fantastic experience: Best gym for any one

Positive experience: This gym has heaps of free weights, boxing gear, cardio machines and classes. The best part of this gym is the attitudes of the people training. It's not a social event, like that BIG gym, this gym is for fitness. There isn't that usual gaggle of young kids leaning on the equipment on Facebook, kids aren't taking pose photos of each other. You go here to train. Train hard. The classes are good too.
