Personalised training, but in a great group of really nice people. I trained with people of all backgrounds ages and abilities and it was seamless. Cannot recommend highly enough!
Fantastic experience: I hate gyms (too loud, too smelly, too many people glancing at their reflections in the ever-present mirrors) but this one is not your "normal" gym... Lisa's gym is a completely different universe! Lisa is highly qualified, pays attention to each one of us, keeps us on our toes and somehow manages to make our sessions fun (if someone would have told me a year ago that one day I would classify gym sessions as "fun", I would have never believed that person!). I love the classes and I especially love the community. Lisa is very passionate, really cares and creates an environment that is warm, welcoming and supportive. I definitely feel better in my body since I joined; I am more agile and I have more energy. I cannot recommend Lisa and her classes highly enough <3.
Fantastic experience: My whole life I have been a member of a large gym franchise. Nearly 12 months ago I had surgery on my leg/knee followed by months of physio, and I was recommended to try Lisa Brown @ Innervate. This was life changing for me. Lisa's knowledge and understanding of our bodies and how to train is extensive. The most significant thing for me is that Lisa constantly checks our technique in order to avoid injury and to push myself in a safe environment. Fantastic experience: I decided to join Lisa at innervate because i felt I needed to add weights to my exercise program. I love my training program because I get such individual help and encouragement and I train with wonderful like minded people of different ages. She is qualified in the McGill method and incredibly knowledgeable about training methodology and anatomy and physiology. She cares deeply about her clients and gives individual attention and adjustments in her group classes. I felt completely safe when training with her knowing I wouldn’t get injured. Her weekly emails and online videos are so helpful in gaining an understanding of her programming. I cannot recommend her highly enough.
Fantastic experience: I couldn’t recommend Lisa and her classes more! She truly cares about each individual she trains and creates a motivating and safe environment to learn and challenge oneself. Lisa knows each individual’s unique background and goals and she adjusts all exercises accordingly. I have been training with Lisa for 9 weeks now and feel stronger, more confident in strength training, and my chronic pain has decreased.
Fantastic experience: Lisa is incredible and I highly recommend Coogee gym. I started my journey with Lisa as a demotivated irregular gym goer. I was forcing myself to exercise and rarely going. Lisa’s program not only brought the enjoyment back to exercise, but it has also forced me to be reliable and consistent for the first time in years. Fantastic experience: I sought out Lisa as I knew she had specific training for back pain and I knew I needed to do weight bearing exercise but didn't want to hurt myself as I had a history of injury at gyms. The initial consultation was extensive, Lisa was very professional and knowledgable in her diagnosis and plan to move forward engaging the McGill method. It took about 4- 5 weeks before I was able to move my body the way I needed to to get out of pain and a lot of retraining of my brain as well as body. But I diligently did the exercises as prescribed by Lisa to engage core muscles and slowly over time I am able to keep up with the other gym participants. Lisa is a no nonsense trainer, she is passionate about her work and helping those who choose to join her gym. I can't imagine getting the results I have if I'd just joined any other gym. Highly recommend, particularly if you have back pain but also if you don't know where to start as she teaches you very strong foundations to avoid injury.

Fantastic experience: Easiest 5 star review I've given. Now been attending Coogee Gym Innervate for over a year so it seems a good time to leave a bit of feedback. Turned up with a slouched posture, hip and lower back pain and imbalances of strength throughout my body. All those issues have almost been obliterated. I've still got work to do but that's just down to my consistency on attending and working through Lisa's awesome programs. Apart from being a top Northerner (UK), she really knows her stuff, i'm much stronger and effective with work (cameraman) and feeling fitter in general. Lisa and her team of legends are setting the standards for strength/fitness training throughout the Coogee area, I've already referred multiple people. Many thanks for all your help.

Fantastic experience: Having played rugby for years, had multiple surgeries, and having a number of health issues I needed a trainer who was sensible, experienced and knowledgeable. Luckily for me I found that in Lisa at Coogee Innervate. She challenges me and pushes me out of my comfort zone, but always in a way that is safe and puts my needs first, not her ego. Lisa has the capability and competence to modify, adjust or completely change each session based on the needs of my body on that particular day. I cannot thank her enough for helping me to be able to function and move as the best possible me. In case you haven't worked it out yet, she is good.
Fantastic experience: I felt compelled to write this review as Lisa’s program has had such a positive impact on my strength, endurance and mobility. I love this gym as Lisa takes the time each class to review my technique ensuring I’m maximising every workout & I don’t get injured. Lisa’s enthusiasm for life is contagious and this is evident in the program she has designed - her workouts are thoughtful and challenging but they are also welcoming and fun (even the hill sprints!). Fantastic experience: I have started at Lisa’s gym about 3 months. I had never done strength training before. The start was challenging as my body was not used to that intensity, and Lisa really took the time to teach me how to pace myself so I get the maximum benefit without going overboard. She has been very attentive in making sure I learn the right techniques for specific exercises such as deadlift, squat, etc so I felt very safe in her hands. She also gave me homework for my specific issue (tight shoulders). My group is super friendly and welcoming and we encourage each other a lot. Lisa is such a powerhouse of contagious enthusiasm that pushes you to give your best every time. It can feel challenging to go to the gym after a tough day at work but I never regretted it once. It is a wonderful stress reliever that washes out the frustrations of the day. My chronic neck pains are gone and my back feels much stronger. My arm muscles are more toned. And it’s just the beginning!!!
Fantastic experience: Simply put, Lisa has changed my life. I joined Coogee Gym through a friend’s recommendation and it’s one of the best decisions I made. I have a lifelong medical condition that affects my left leg and back, and also have a severe limp. Because of Lisa’s knowledge, passion for helping people and her careful guidance in every session, she’s given me hope and confidence that I never thought was possible. Negative experience: Lisa Brown is an reputational liability to Coogee Gym and Professor Stuart MgGill. A very aggressive and rude person who misrepresent the role of physiotherapists in treating people with serious back injuries. I approached Lisa to have the McGill Assessment and explained my health situation to her via email. I am a very fit person and had an painful acute and debilitating sciatica episode 3 weeks ago, weakening my left leg and was in hospital followed by an epidural which made me stand up and walk again. She firstly seemed offended because I could not find the time slots to talk to her on the phone when she wanted. She wanted to discuss it 'quickly' but I did not think it would be productive to address it in 1 minute. I had my first physio appointment and work commitments at the same time. I was waiting for her call next day. Lisa instead texted me and seemed insulted because I was seeing a physiotherapist and told me to 'go with it' instead and that 'she was too busy to see me', and that 'her services were the same as a physio' and told me 'good luck with your leg'. Lisa is a PT not a physiotherapist. I told her from the start I wanted to do the assessment and go back to the gym safely with a PT's guidance hence I looked for her and also needed to comply with doctors directions to see a physio at least once a month. Very sad to see how rude and unhelpful she was. I was never rude to her. I was very surprised by her aggressive, bossy and dismissive text response. She never called me back to discuss my issue and the assessment, instead replied with that disappointing dismissive text. I called her out on that tone and she replied 'I'm insulted'. I also work in the services industry. If I was to treat my clients that way, there would be no business. Lisa needs to regulate her aggression and ego. I wished her well in her endeavours. xx
Flavia, I’m sorry you didn’t get the experience you expected. I pride myself on delivering excellence and expertise from the first contact through to meeting and working with clients. We obviously didn’t meet in person and didn’t have a phone conversation as our schedules didn’t align that week. I fully appreciate and am sensitive to the fact that when a person is in pain there’s a sense of urgency to fix it as quickly as possible however there’s a clear method I follow with all clients. Regarding the McGill method: an essential part of the assessment process is a thorough in-person interview which forms the first part of the McGill method assessment. This is where I ask clients specific and detailed questions. These questions are never conducted over the telephone. If we had been able to schedule the brief phone call I suggested to you I would have explained this to you in person. The brief call is to ascertain that the service I offer can be of service and is never a long chat. Unfortunately there is no tone in email or text and so I feel the nuance of the above was lost. I also explained to you via text that I had very limited availability before the xmas break. I also suggested you come back to me after January 8th if you were still interested in potentially working with me then. I wished you good luck with the plan that your physio had given you and said that I hoped you got a positive result and didn’t need to come and see me in 2024. But that I was available if you did and could talk to you then if you do. I felt it was important to reply to your review to clear up any misunderstandings. Fantastic experience: Joining Innervate is one of the best decisions I have made in recent times. Lisa and the team are so caring and motivating, and the community is full of real people working towards their own goals at their own pace. Lisa is very supportive and so knowledgeable, and perhaps most importantly, makes me laugh every session! I'm so excited to continue my journey with her. Innervate doesn't feel like a gym, it feels like a safe space for me to grow and challenge myself.

Lisa is fantastic and takes your goals into consideration when giving you exercises to do. If you feel you can’t do a certain exercise, there will be plenty of other options tailored to suit you. There’s no judgement at this gym, everyone is really friendly and supportive!
Fantastic experience: Lisa is a really great trainer, and has the knowledge to understand and adjust to any injuries you carry, the experience to tell you when your technique is incorrect and she has the banter/personality to push you through those early morning sessions. I’ve only been training with the 7am crew for a couple of Months but really enjoying the training blocks and trusting the process put in place. Put in the work in the group training and take time to focus on the bonus training content offered by Lisa and you’l be smashing your goals in no time!!

The amazing bit is how she is able to pay personal attention to each person in our little community while running a very fast paced and intense session. Fantastic experience: I regularly walked past Innervate Gym at Coogee and thought, this gym ticks all my boxes - strength, intervals and yoga - I must join. Finally instead of walking past I walked in and it was one of the best decisions I have made. Lisa really knows her stuff, and even though I have multiple previous injuries / limitations, Lisa just takes this in her stride and modifies the exercises to meet me and my body - it is not a one size fits all approach, it is a what works for you and your body. A great, friendly gym with personalised service. I cannot recommend this gym highly enough. Don't be like me and walk past, walk in - you won't regret it.

Fantastic experience: Lisa is an absolute oracle on all things fitness and an all-round incredible human. She focuses on helping you feel strong and healthy which has such a positive effect on all other parts of life. I have trained with Lisa for about 6 months now and it has been the best thing that I’ve done for myself and the most consistent I have been with fitness in my whole life! I was so intimidated by working out, but I have learned so much and feel so much more confident in the gym. Fantastic experience: After moving to hybrid working - part from home and part from the office - I was looking for a gym and personal trainer closer to home. I am so lucky to have found Lisa and her gym! Her small group classes feel like personal training. Fantastic experience: A brilliant mix of pure strength, cardio and big HIIT out sessions... and yoga too. Lisa plans really well structured 4-5 week programs based on building strength, stability and stamina. I've been training with Lisa for a few months now and noticed a huge difference in my posture and strength as well as improved fitness level when I swim... which was my goal. BOOM!
Fantastic experience: From the get-go, Lisa is warm, empathetic and wants to ensure you are comfortable and your technique is safe. Lisa goes to great effort to understand your concerns and areas for development and ensures you practice with safety and correct technique always. The programs are structured and work really well. If you are consistent, you will start to see improvements within a few weeks. The class sizes are also small which ensures you get the attention you need and that you are doing the exercises correctly. Lisa is engaging and genuinely cares about her training groups.

Fantastic experience: Lisa is amazing! She's so passionate, caring and incredibly knowledgeable about building strength and resilience. When I started at Innervate, I had a lot of hip flexor pain, lower back pain and and issues with my glutes just not working the way they should - ecaserbated by childbirth and carrying a toddler often. Lisa's approach has been wonderful, she pushes me (in a really good way) but also is careful of my needs and provides alternatives to exercises where required. Her energy is awesome and the classes are not too packed so you don't feel like a fish out of water, and Lisa is always there to make sure you're doing okay. I would highly recommend Lisa and Innervate as it's probably the first time in my life that I've actually stuck to a fitness regime, felt motivated and gained strength. My hips and lower back are so much better just after a few months and from a mental health perspective, I walk out of the classes feeling great.

Lisa continues to cater for my previous quad tear and pulled glute - which is a difficult task in itself, but Lisa navigates this with ease. Very impressed and thankful for Lisa’s steadfast encouragement and pushing me to exactly where I need to be in order to build strength at the right pace (but without overdoing it)! Fantastic experience: I have been training with Lisa for four months and I am amazed by the results already. I feel much stronger and I have a better posture. I used to do regular classes in a gym for years and I found out that all theses years I didn’t have to right technique. With Lisa I know that I am in good hands. Fantastic experience: I wanted to find a friendly, unpretentious community orientated gym and Coogee Gym has 100% nailed that brief. I’m delighted I found it. Lisa really knows her stuff and is passionate in everything she does. She motivates and encourages and always has her eye on the ball. Fantastic experience: I've been training with Lisa for about 12 weeks and I'm blown away with her knowledge, her capacity to understand each person's quirks and provide alternatives as needed. She is really tuned in to each individual and what they need, it is so different from the other gyms I've been to. I have crush fractures in 2 of my verterbrae and because of that I was looking for a trainer or a gym where I would feel safe and heard, I trust Lisa implicitly. I have already seen gains in my strength and I have more mobility in one of my hips which has been limited since I was hit by a car when I was 12! Lisa makes every session enjoyable with her enthusiasm and vocabulory :-0 I have no hesitation in recommending Lisa at Innervate.

Fantastic experience: Lisa’s a great trainer. She has a strong focus on technique and an eye for body position detail. I’ve been training with her for about 9 months and thanks to her patient support and generous sharing of knowledge, I’ve gradually become more confident and competent at strength training. I feel much stronger in my body and am still making gains! Lisa’s motivating, mixes things up so it doesn’t get boring and manages to cater to each person in our group training sessions -- despite our different body types and various quirks. Having yoga class and cardio sessions in the mix each week is a bonus!

Fantastic experience: For years I’ve seriously really struggled with sticking to any form of fitness until I found Lisa and Coogee gym! She offers an experience that is very rare, where you get all the perks of being part of a great community but also personal training style tailoring and attention. She’s made me absolutely love training so much that I’m bummed when I have to miss a session. I’m getting great consistent results and it’s been a god sent especially in lockdown for my mental health. On top off having an all round great vibe she has a lot of knowledge behind her programs and I’ve learnt alot training with her. Couldn’t recommend Coogee Gym Innervate enough!
Fantastic experience: Have been going to the gym for 3 months and it’s made such a difference - even though we’ve been in lockdown most of that time and it’s been on zoom! The programs Lisa puts together have basically fixed with niggling back pain that I had. Lisa is extremely knowledgeable and tailors the program to everyone.

Fantastic experience: Lisa has changed my entire approach to fitness! I used to struggle to get to 1 gym classes a week, my motivation was low and I felt disconnected from the people I was exercising with. I’ve now been working out with Lisa at innervate gym for about 6 months and exercise is so ingrained in my routine - I now workout minimum three times a week without fail and on top of that I’m running and doing yoga. The community feel at the gym is so comforting and you really feel part of something. Lisa is an INCREDIBLE trainer, extremely knowledgeable and tailors all of the exercises to suit individual needs/goals. I’ve never seen a trainer so committed to helping people move better, become stronger and feel great. If I could give more than five stars I would!!!
Fantastic experience: I loved training with Lisa leading up to the birth of my second baby. She was so warm and welcoming and always had options that were both safe but still challenging enough for me in her group sessions. She encourages an environment of fun with some friendly competition, but always in a way that allows people to work within their limits (e.g. injuries, health concerns, goals). Training with Lisa meant my body was in great shape and I didn't suffer a lot of the usual pregnancy (or my normal body) complaints, like a sore back. In fact, I felt better than usual when training with Lisa, even when heavily pregnant! I would recommend Lisa to anybody looking for some external motivation and support to train in a challenging but safe environment with a great group of people.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been attending Innervate for only 11 weeks now but I love it so much. When I started I had horrendous hip and back pain, which I’ve been dealing with on and off for about 5+ years now, it was at its peek when I started and now it’s all but gone. I feel so much stronger and when I’m training I feel safe because Lisa is there making sure I have correct form. She also explains everything so you have a great understanding of what muscles you should be feeling and how they should feel when you do it. I can not recommend Lisa and Innervate enough, it’s seriously been life changing and I can’t believe I’ve been living with this damn hip pain when I didn’t have to.

Fantastic experience: Highly recommend the friendly Coogee Gym and the amazing owner and PT, Lisa! Lisa’s programming is strength and conditioning based, with a big focus on good form and technique to guarantee you get results. Small group training which ensure you get dedicated training advice and motivation – almost like personal training but without the price tag and in a more fun environment (Lisa’s energy is contagious and she makes everyone feel at ease in the gym despite abilities or levels of fitness)! Lisa has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to the way our bodies work. After seeing you move, she will be able to detect any little niggles or anomalies and will adapt the programme to better suited exercises for you so you can work towards getting stronger and pain-free.

Fantastic experience: I contacted Lisa after a recommendation of someone I trust ( partner) with this intention of doing a 8 week. I'ts now been 9 months.... and Im stronger, mentally and physically and could not be happier. Pre training with Lisa, I considered myself reasonably healthy but had started seeing signs of weakness in parts of my mid 50's body....poor posture, weaker shoulders, weak knees from foot injuries. Lisa's identified these quickly in the orientation process and catered for my shortcomings in each session...she really cares, is encouraging, looks for feedback, is professional and, importantly gets results. In the small group sessions, she manages to give everyone a super personalised experience (including making expert adjustments for injuries) while also creating a really friendly and highly motivating team atmosphere. Fantastic experience: Lisa is an excellent trainer, her passion and energy have kept me motivated more than I've ever honestly been. I wasn't into group fitness before joining this gym but am now a convert - her sessions are focused on strength and conditioning, and even with the group sessions her incredible eagle eyes make you feel like it's 1:1, with personalised attention and care always shared across the group. Also, it's just a really welcoming bunch of people to train with, which really helps when its tough to get out of bed to work out some mornings. Two (strong!) thumbs up from me!

She knows her stuff so your strength, fitness and mobility are built step by step for the long haul - no gimmicks or BS - consistent well programmed weights and movement. Every class she takes care of each of us and our diverse bodies diligently. It’s not what you expect, I felt like a fish out of water for first month but trusted her advice and did the work and at 4 week mark - boom, I could see and feel my body clicking into gear and doing things I didn’t think it was capable of. After 6 months of training I fell pregnant and once again Lisa had my back and I managed to train safely into 3rd trimester, keep my high blood pressure risks to me and bubs at bay and then get my body rebuilding post pregnancy. Full circle and feeling the benefits to my health are game changing.

Lisa is committed to ensuring everyone's different injuries are adjusted for and she is the only person I trust to train me given my back problems.
