Negative experience: Got rashes on my skin after swimming here, both the indoor and outdoor pools. Maybe too much chlorine in the water

Hi Angela Sorry to hear. Hoping this reaction has settled down now. We have not received any other feedback relating to rashes caused by the pool, but I have passed on to our operations co Ordinator to monitor. Take Care Management

Fantastic experience: Edit - I contacted the management and appreciate that this issue has been addressed and resolved. As we all know, nothing in life is perfect, but what matters is taking responsibility and doing one's best. For that, I'm giving 5 stars. ------------------------------- Before this below incident happened, a few week backs we had 3 make-up classes button which suddenly got disabled all at once. So we called your reception, she booked in for one make up and told to call back for the rest 2 makeups as the system is buggy. So the below incident happened for the next absence and when we booked a make up for that and when we called this time around, he said that other receptionist had wrongly booked in for the make up, and only 6 are allowed. Its very confusing. Regarding the early finish, we already called and told, but it was still happening, until my son was promoted to next level and when we had a new teacher, it stopped. --------------------------- My son is enrolled here. Their system is full of errors. The make up classes says it has been exhausted in the system all of a sudden. There were a few left a few weeks back. Same error happened then and when we called they said he has 3 make up classes. Now today they says only 6 make up classes allowed and all have been exhausted. Not fair. Also their teacher in the last term always finished 5 minutes early. Can't trust them anymore. Will be moving my son elsewhere.

The Y Ku-ring-gai Fitness and Aquatic Centre

Hi Katt Thanks for your feedback here. You spoke with one of my representatives via the phone a few days ago and he had explained the terms and conditions of the parent portal. Upon speaking with my representative ( he can't remember your child's name) he does recall looking into your enquiry and did mention you had marked absent approx. 9 times - and had used your 6 make up lessons already - which the system will allow you to mark absent as many times - this is for attendance reasons - but the make ups still remain 6 per child per calendar year. If your child is medically unwell - a medical provided , we can also credit the membership with that missed class fee. These T & C's are also in the contract that was processed upon you enrolling in the program. All students receive 6 make up lessons per calendar year - a good will gesture that was set up in October 2021 for our swim school, which has been running effectively and smoothly with parents. As I can not find you in our system via your name I am not physically able to look into your profile further- or contact you directly. If your able to contact the office between 9-5pm Mon-Fri we are happy to go through this with you again. In regards to the feedback about teacher finishing up 5 minutes earlier - once we know class and details we can also pass this feedback to Swim School management to address personally with the teacher and other parents in the class. We are yet to receive any complaints about this claim on our register, so we can look into this for you also. Looking forward to speaking with you directly in regards to your concerns and hoping to come to a resolution. Kind Regards Management

Negative experience: Parking - is nightmare! ‍♀️ You really need to expand your parking space!! 14 min to find the spot!! UPD Do not book the lessonat 6pm! Spent 20 min to find the parking spot and left. My kid has missed the lesson today because of parking.

The Y Ku-ring-gai Fitness and Aquatic Centre
The Y Ku-ring-gai Fitness and Aquatic Centre

Hi Kate Thank you for your feedback. Parking spots can be limited, especially in the warmer periods. We do advise parents to come a little earlier before a lesson to find suitable parking. Also we have a walk way from the back of Loftberg Road which leads to the Centre from the back way near café area if that helps. Kind Regards Management

Negative experience: Have been to many local Sydney aquatic centres and this might be the most un-hygienic one yet! There is grime on all the walls where the water of the pool levels out, the place seems quite poorly maintained, there was also what seemed to be vomit on the wall near the toddler splash pad whilst we were there - with the water level touching it… you’d think for the location the centre would be top notch quality… Wanted to enjoy our swim here, but will stick to the aquatic centres we know and love - definitely need better cleaning at this one

Negative experience: I find it outrageous that you charge a $ 3.40 spectator fee, given that there is no spectator seating, nor undercover standing room during the school Swim Carnival. I have attended school swimming events at various centres in Sydney who don't charge this ridiculous fee. no spectato

The Y Ku-ring-gai Fitness and Aquatic Centre
The Y Ku-ring-gai Fitness and Aquatic Centre

Hi Claudia Thanks for your feedback. Spectator fee has been in place since opening the centre. Our grassed hill area has ample room for a blanket or your own seating if necessary. The schools administration normally provides this information to parents before the carnival event. Kind Regards Management

Negative experience: We were unaware when the swimming classes were starting up again this year. We were happy to accept forfeiting the fee for the first two weeks but the team would not even accept an absent request at 1.32/1.33pm for a class at 4.30pm today because the request had to be made strictly 3 hours before the class? Would have thought a little leniency could have been offered under the circumstances. Very disappointing to say the least.

The Y Ku-ring-gai Fitness and Aquatic Centre
The Y Ku-ring-gai Fitness and Aquatic Centre

Hi Jinous, Thank you for your feedback. Sorry to hear that you are not happy with our makeup policies and procedures. All lesson breaks were advertised from November both at reception and on our social media. We we sorry to hear that you are disappointed. Kind Regards Management

Christie W 1 year ago

Positive experience: Pool facilities are reasonable, indoor section needs refurb. Swimming lessons quite average - the teachers are nice enough but the program is poorly organised from our experience over 2 years of attending. Admin and reception staff were consistently very rude (it seems they are doing you a huge favour allowing you to pay them for lessons!) and we had lots of last minute cancellations, changes of teacher etc. Agree with the previous post about temperature - the indoor pool was often very cold with no explanation.

Negative experience: Be careful when u join the swimming school. I've emailed them a few months ago and am still waiting on reply. They don't tell you that you need to do everything yourself on your portal and just say o, sorry u can't get a makeup lesson. Then they tell you, you can't move a make up lesson. At least other places are upfront and tell you, we don't do make up lessons. How much have I lost to them?

The Y Ku-ring-gai Fitness and Aquatic Centre

Hi Maggie Thank you for your feedback here. Sorry to hear you have had a bad experience. We would like to contact you personally in regards to your swimming lesson policy and procedures, but we are unable to find you on our system under this name. If possible please contact the centre. Kind Regards Management.

Mel Xue 1 year ago

Negative experience: Very difficult to book makeup lesson. The booking portal is not mobile friendly and you can only book your make up lessons for the next 48 hours, which make it extremely challenging to book a Make up lesson.

Hi Mel Thank you for your feedback. Sorry to hear that you are not happy with our makeup policies and procedures. Kate Hiron 1 year ago

Negative experience: Took my 3 kids there today. It’s mid holidays and we paid full fee for entry to the pool area without warning of closures. All outdoor areas were non operational for maintenance and staffing difficulties. Our only option was a 1/3rd of the shallow, children’s learn to swim area and a toddler paddling pool. I sat, in the water, on the side of the learn to swim pool watching my children carefully (who are all capable swimmers). Over the next hour I was yelled at across the pool by one lifeguard and then spoken to very rudely by another that I wasn’t close enough to my kids being a couple of meters away. My sister in law was also spoken to abruptly as she ran around after her little girl endlessly, never letting her get more than 1 m away. If that isn’t “arms reach,” what is? I’ve had a hideous time and the kids derived very little enjoyment from our visit. Further more the signs in the bathroom asking people to cover up? In the change room? What is a sex specific change room for? Sincerely odd experience. Wouldn’t recommend.

Philip Dowling 2 years ago

Negative experience: Basic maintenance is left for months. Eg. Missing tiles in pools. Dirty shower stalls. The temperatures of the pools are erratic from day to day. However, they have been slowly declining with no notice and no explanation. Other Sydney pools advertise their temperatures. So did this establishment but it is now kept secret.

The Y Ku-ring-gai Fitness and Aquatic Centre
The Y Ku-ring-gai Fitness and Aquatic Centre

Hi Phillip Thank you for your feedback. The missing tiles are a part of a future major project for this pool. In the meantime we acknowledge it does not look great but is not of any safety concern. Feedback about the shower stalls have been passed on to our cleaners. The temperature of the pools are quite stable, and are advertised at reception. Occasionally the Pools will need an automatic top up of fresh cold water (Like all Pools across Sydney), so perhaps you may have felt these minor drops in temperature. When the boiler is heating the water, the pool can spike as well with the temperature getting to 28.7 degrees. Please feel free to discuss any concerns with us in person. 25m Pool - 28.5 Degrees Indoor Program and Toddlers Pool – 30.5 Degrees 50m Pool – 26 Degrees Outside Recreation Pool – 27 Degrees Kinds Regards Management

Positive experience: Beautiful in and outside swimming pools. I love being able to lay on the grass in the sun after a swim. I don’t mind the strict policy in terms of pool safety. The only thing i noticed, and could not understand, is how they organised the combination of a toilet, changing room and shower. All of it in one room?? On top of that, visitors are allowed to wear shoes inside? Walk from the toilet, to the pool, cafetaria etc..

Negative experience: Seems like have more “invisible rules “ about what my kids should swim in slow, medium and fast line. I was sitting there all the time watching my kids swim. A lifeguard was asked my younger son to move line and saw my older son to move line too! Also told if you are under 10 all needs to swim at slow line! When I was sitting there all the time watching them, there are over 10 adults and kids “ diving in” to the pool which says in the sign “no diving” . The lifeguard didn’t talk to any of the people who dive in but seems have more attention on two young Asia boys with their mother watching them. My son don’t feel comfortable when they can’t beat adult’s speed during swim in the middle line or fast line and ask them to move to slow line. Just because they are children. There are some adults even kids swim slow in the fast line and it seems fine with lifeguard! We don’t feel pleased to swim there anymore and we also cancel the swim lessons at the same day! We would accept if lifeguard treats every swimmer fairly not because they are still young or any other reason!

The Y Ku-ring-gai Fitness and Aquatic Centre
The Y Ku-ring-gai Fitness and Aquatic Centre

Hi Jenny Thanks for your feedback. I have passed this on to our Operations Coordinator to make contact with the lifeguard working this day to get more clarity on this situation. Kind Regards

Joanne M 2 years ago

Negative experience: Nice large pool outside , travel 45 mins there to practice my son's diving. Every swimming carnival/race there is diving into the pool. They told us we can't practice basic driving there. Every other pool in Sydney I can. Its one of the main elements of swimming, what a joke. Wanted my money back.

The Y Ku-ring-gai Fitness and Aquatic Centre
The Y Ku-ring-gai Fitness and Aquatic Centre

Hi Joanne Thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately we don't allow diving, and most local pools do not have this service either. We do hold programs that allow kids to improve diving techniques in our squad programs . For further information, please contact the centre. Also happy to provide a family swim pass for another visit. Kind Regards

Steve McEwan 2 years ago

Negative experience: Nice pool, disappointed that people need to use the seating benches for their bags, so no place to sit as bags need a bench to sit on, rather selfish of the patrons

Jackie McMillan 2 years ago

Positive experience: The original West Pymble pool opened back in 1971, but this fully-blown aquatic centre revamp is less than 10 years old. And the Y Ku-ring-gai Fitness and Aquatic Centre has all the things! Two heated indoor pools, a 50 metre outdoor pool and shaded outdoor kid’s pool, water play features, gym, crèche, indoor and outdoor showers, cafe and more, in a well-designed modern complex set amongst the beautiful bushland of the Bicentennial Park. It’s very fancy, as you’d expect in the well-heeled enclave of privilege that is Pymble, with loads of free parking, brush turkeys wandering around poolside and the most North Shore language ever used in their signage… skip to the last photo to see what we mean.

Taylor Law 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: Excellent lifeguards! I love coming here with my little children as the lifeguards are really attentive unlike Ryde Aquatic centre where you can barely spot a lifeguard and when you do they are either gas bagging or on their phone! I feel safe with my little kids here … these lifeguards deserve so much praise on how they keep everyone safe. For all the complaints here about them you need to be supervising your children better … drowning in silent!

Negative experience: First and last time coming here. Small and dated inside pool. An overzealous lifeguard thinks it ok to approach parents and reprimand them for not keeping an eye on their child the entire time. Phone calls, bathrooms breaks, emails can happen. Unpleasant experience.

The Y Ku-ring-gai Fitness and Aquatic Centre

Hi Stephanie Thank you for your feedback. We have passed this on to our Operations Manager. Our Lifeguards are required to follow our KEEP WATCH policy which does mean that all children need supervision until they are 13 years old. Kind Regards

Fantastic experience: This is definitely the best public swimming pool (indoor 25m and outdoor 50m) in all of Sydney overall in terms of lane availability, less crowded than other popular pools, good parking availability. You will feel relaxed when you swim here, a feeling u won't usually get from Des Renford, Ryde, Olympic Park, Ian Thorpe etc Staff are very friendly. The main downside is that their changeroom/toilet on ground floor is tiny VS the changeroom at Cook and Phillip at Hyde Park in cbd. However, to get around this, I do not bother to change and drive home to shower. Public transport here is probably not advisable but there is lots of free parking. If it is full, you can park at many other places eg netball courts and walk a minute or two. They also have good selection of ice cream if that is your thing.... There are some wraps and healthy looking food but for hot food Cook and Phillip Park swimming pool's little Cafe is way better. If the outdoor 50m pool is closed, u also definitely do not want to come here after school as there are kids lessons so only one lane for swimming in 25 m pool! The best thing is the outdoor 50m pool is actually heated so you can swim all year, even in pouring rain! It is surrounded by beautiful scenery so very relaxing experience!

Fantastic experience: I have beem going to West Pymble Pools since i was a kid. I have lived between Sydney and WA and attended many public pools in my time and I can easily say West Pymble Pool is in the top two best pools. The pool is always clean, the lifeguards are always on watch and its one of my favourite go-to places for a relaxed day reading by the pool.

Fantastic experience: We loved this place and enjoyed the beautiful heated pool and gym when we stayed a few hundred yards away in West Pymble for a couple of months during our tour of Oz. Almost 2 years later, Robert's circuit training sessions in the gym are clearly etched in my memory and are the best I've experienced. Negative experience: Unfriendly, unhelpful. Had issues with the lifeguard. Asked for manager to contact me. I never heard anything. They are so expensive and don't deliver a quality service

Roy Haigh 5 years ago

Positive experience: Improvements to the ground floor mens change room area would include the installation of a centre module with hooks for clothing and the provision of duck boards to help clients keep their feet dry when putting shoes and socks on. (The floor area is often flooded with water.) The car parking area is too small and sometimes it is impossible to find a parking space.

Negative experience: the facility is great but kids swim class is not recommended until the management sorted out a solution. we have different trainers for every single session we attended for the past 1.5 months. my kid has no progression as trainer is barely know the kid they teach. every time we went for a class, we need to check who our teacher is today. Honestly felt wasting of my time and money on this.

M ZH 5 years ago

Negative experience: Really disappointed with their swim program. Both my children went backwards from the previous swim place. Takes a kid forever to progress with their long winded process to NO PROCESS at all. A waste of our 6m there. Left their program n never returning or recommending. Returning to previous swim place.

Negative experience: Beautiful pool, great facilities, great pricing but the management and some staff lacks basic customer service. I spent time writing a complain to a manager and gave them suggestions for improvement, but received an email from a manager defending the staff and not taking ANY of my suggestions into account! When I deal with an unhappy customer, I pick up the phone, call and apologise, and have a chat! I listen, I acknowledge their emotions and then I try to resolve the problem. This is so much better instead of sending an email to a customer and saying - I am right, you are wrong, I am not listening to you, and I not changing anything. When YMCA provides such facilities, they really need to make an effort to train their staff in customer service. Very disappointed.

Mark Eccles 5 years ago

Positive experience: Very good gym facilities. Free lockers. The outdoor pool is great. Just avoid coming when there are too many kids. Had very limited interactions with the staff so cannot say if the service really is so bad.

Michael Hill 5 years ago

Negative experience: The kids pool closed 30 mins after we arrived with no explanation. Front desk didn't mention when we arrived, otherwise wouldn't have gone in just for the kids to be disappointed.

Negative experience: A man called Joe is a temp manager at this pool. He is rude, arrogant and has zero people skills or respect for customers. Somehow this place ended up being run (and probably owned) by YMCA, and I wonder if the YMCA management at HQ are aware of who they hired to run this family-oriented facility. The premises are lovely, in a natural setting.

Fantastic experience: Great place for a swim or simple gym

Fantastic experience: I’ve been training here (pool and gym) regularly since the pool opened after the renovation (about 5-6 years ago). The facilities and staff are outstanding. I have never encountered rudeness from staff, and am really surprised by the number of negative reviews. I have generally found the facilities to be extremely well managed. I love the fact that the outdoor 50m pool can be utilised all year round - it’s kept at about 25 degrees right through winter. It’s very difficult to find pools like this in Sydney. The gym is well equipped, and much of the equipment has just been renewed. I have gained so much from this place, and feel fortunate to be able to access it.

Fantastic experience: Swimming with bush view and nice garden-like grass areas. Hot water shower and clean bathrooms.

Dhiraj Kumar Masodgi 5 years ago

Fantastic experience: This is the best place for pools. It got indoor and outdoor pools. Outdoor lanes are 50M and indoor once are 25M. In indoor their is additional pool and lanes for kids. Indoor lot of water area belongs to kids for playing in water. Also the lanes are more. Many lanes are occupied for various classes and training but still enough for walk-in people's. Onsite cafe and gym facility is also available. Only tough part is commuting if you don't have car as on weekends the buses don't run frequently.

Negative experience: We are very disappoint by the way that one of your life guard treated our family!!! My wife and our 3 children when to the pool on Thursday 5th December around lunch time. My wife was looking after our youngest child and our other two children aged 5 and 8 are competent swimmers for their age (they swim daily at home). When they were in the indoor children's pool. Your life guard SCREAMED AT and KICKED our family out, because all our children are not within arms reach. I understand you have a duty of care for your patrons, however, the way your life guard treated my family is beyond appalling. A mother looking after 3 children is hard enough, having to tolerate the abuse from your life guard in front of our children is disgraceful. You can contact me further to discuss this situation.

Taiba Khan 5 years ago

Negative experience: I liked going there though it got very crowded. The swimming is family oriented so lots and lots of children and parents at certain times. Their fees are relatively affordable and I really hope they keep it that way so that people can easily access fitness activities. They have really poor customer service, which I discovered later on, hence the low stars.

Bella Gmr 5 years ago

Negative experience: My family are using this centre for years and always enjoyed our moments however I found the stuff sometimes act a bit snobbish and hesitate to act more friendly. I think for the family oriented centre such as this centre it's important to management to work harder on their stuff attitude.

Negative experience: Nice pool just poorly managed. How can you close 3 lanes for squads (Tues+Fri) with 2 people in 2 of the lanes and public with more than 15+ people is squashed in 2 swimming lanes at the busiest time? Good way to loose regular customers! Well the response given below does neglect that one public lane is a wading lane and the disproportion of the number of people. Even a squad of 4 people at different level does not need 2 lanes ...sorry!

The Y Ku-ring-gai Fitness and Aquatic Centre
The Y Ku-ring-gai Fitness and Aquatic Centre

Thank you for your feedback. We currently have 3 lanes available to the public for laps and 3 lanes set aside for squads. Our squads currently need 3 lanes to cater to different swimming levels. If this need changes in the future more lanes will be made available to the public. If you wish to discuss the matter further please call us on 9499 2005.

Negative experience: A life guard asked me to stay with my 4 year old baby in 20 cm depth pool even though i was watching him just outside of 20cm water area. He asked me to keep him in my arm reach IN 20 CM DEPTH water play area? Really 4year old cannot play alone in my eye sight?

Thank you for providing your feedback about your recent visit to our centre. While we cannot speak directly about the circumstances you are referring to, we can advise that we ask all Lifeguards to enforce the Royal Life Saving's Keep Watch @ Public Pools Program. A recommendation of this program is that parents must stay within arms' reach of 0-5 year olds and non-swimmers. More Information on this Policy can be found here - https://www.royallifesaving.com.au/aquatic-centres/managers/programs/keep-watch-at-public-pools If you would like to discuss this issue further please contact us on 9499 2005.

Negative experience: I registered my 5 years old son for swimming 1 year ago, it took him almost 10 months to progress to the next level (while I could only see slight improvement in his techniques) and then for 2 months since we changed the coach he's only swam 1 time and no one cared to build a relationship with him or help him to cope with the change. I asked for changing the coach but they put me on the waiting list and didn't care to contact me back! 1 coach vs 4-5 children 30 minutes training that's almost spending 6-7 minutes with each one how would they learn! I eventually opt-out of the training there because I've been wasting my money.

Negative experience: The facility constantly has a pool closed. Either indoor or outdoor. Great facility, shame it cannot be used quite as often as it should be. This time it was the indoor pool. Closed due to contamination. When inquiring of what the contamination was, the response was that "it's contaminated". But that it will cleaned in a few hours, but will not be open for the rest of the day. Asked a few times, received the same robotic response. They were just not willing to say how it was contaminated and was glad to rid of a customer asking a legitimate question. It's important for customers to know what the potential contamination was. Could it be: - Pool chemical mix was not right? - Due to an accident from a pool user? - Blood spilled by a pool user? - Ph imbalance in the pool water? - Radioactive prototype that accidentally found it's way into the pool and is now leaking harmful radiation? - Or there being a shortage of staff that cannot guard both the indoor and outdoor pool? We'll not really know. And you won't either should you choose to use the Pymble pool. A notice on the centre website would be useful. Or at least an update on their facebook page.

Hi Matt, thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately pool closures are relatively unavoidable and while we do our best to keep the pools open for our members and guests, we also need to abide by the NSW Health Contamination Response Plans which does involve closing the pools at times to ensure customer health and safety. If you would like further information about a particular incident or would like to discuss the matter further feel free to give us a call on 9499 2005. Our Operations Manager would be more than happy to discuss this issue with you. Kind Regards, KFAC Team

Positive experience: I have had several issues at this pool. Over the top life guards. I understand the importance of their role but the attitude is over the top to the point i am far from comfortable going there. Fantastic facility but this is extremely frustrating. I was drilled for taking a close up photo of my daughter. Not standing back, not a wide shot. Clearly I was taking a photo of my little girl and boom. Got spoken too and stared at for the next hour. Safety if the upmost importance at any pool but the delivery of the safety misses the mark...

Negative experience: Lifeguards are constantly in your face, like someone else mentioned in their review, yet don't know their own rules, and take things way too far. Not to mention rude. It is too stressful for me to bring my two children for classes and a play. Pity really as it could be a great facility. I have cancelled and will be looking elsewhere.

A Park 7 years ago

Negative experience: Entry fees equal to or more than other places, yet complex is smaller. Lifeguards are buzzkill, they were getting into people's faces with the rules - I know its for safety reasons - but saw these guys tell kids off for few hops around the pool which is hardly running and tell a parent off for filming their own kid learning to swim with their granddad when the pool had hardly any other people to be in the background geez. They need to relax and exercise better judgement, and let people enjoy a little.
