Positive experience: The fitness equipment has not been updated for a long time, but it is still a good gym
Negative experience: I am a fitness first member, I used to be FF castelhill. I came to FF carlingford today and feel teribble. Changing room locker need a extra lock ( buy a lock at reception for $90), someone ocuppy locker ( don't need extra lock, but just use membership card to lock) and just left stuff in locker and then lockup and go away without excesise in the gym. Report to reception but not help. The reception just wanted me to buy a lock. Desprate about the service / facility about Fitness First Carlingford.

Negative experience: showers have been broken for months with a lack of hot water. shower cubicles have also been out of order for a prolonged amount of time. no communication given to gym users as to when this would be fixed. outdated equipment with no real intention of adding variety to the gym apart from the one GHD they purchased.

Negative experience: Fitness First is horrible now... It has been years since they have upgraded any machines, purchased any new attachments (come on this stuff is SO cheap, I have to bring my own). Constantly broken machines and no pegs for the cable machines, are you serious?!?! No wonder everyone is leaving for other gyms. You don't reinvest into the gym how do you expect your customers to stay. Unacceptable. Fix your business

Positive experience: Quite happy with the gym membership. I visit the carlingford court fitness first usually although my membership allows me to use other FF gyms. The free weight and resistance equipment areas are quite busy. The cardio equipment area is quite free. I use the cardio equipment usually so I don't have any complaint. I do find it annoying when people throw the free weight on the floor and make a loud thud, shaking the whole floor, not to mention it must annoy the people working below the gym. I understand throwing the weight down is "acceptable" to some people, but it is annoying to some people too. I just hope the staff can do something about this. Another issue is the many of the lockers are broken and cannot be locked.

Negative experience: The gym leaves a lot to be desired. Like most Fitness First clubs, it’s a big box gym with a solid range of facilities. However, there are some glaring deficiencies that mean it never lives up to its potential. The gym has a good range of equipment, with a good combination of weights, cardio, studio classes, and functional training. However, many of the pieces of equipment have seen better days and not only look worse for wear but in some cases are functionally quite poor too (video attached for reference). Some pieces are also out of order, I found broken parts of machines on the floor but not sure which machine they came from, and parts of the gym were littered with weight plates and equipment being left laying around. Furthermore, the gym’s choice of equipment seems…odd. For example they have 3 version of hamstring curl machines, yet only 1 leg extension. How they chose what equipment to prioritise getting in seems to be a bit of a mystery, and there are some machines they definitely could do with more of, and others that seem bewildering why they’d get them in ahead of other choices. As for the atmosphere, it’s a gym that seems mostly populated by adults who are after a more casual fitness journey, high school students, both of which are completely fine and to be encouraged, but there are also lots of people more interested in posturing and looking tough, which doesn’t create a very welcoming atmosphere. The staff are lovely, albeit their professionalism could do with some work. In summary, the whole gym feels like it’s coasting by on the name and reputation of Fitness First, with little to no effort put into maintaining or improving the club, and staff just being there for the pay cheque at the end of the day. It’s not to say the club or the staff are bad, but there is just SO MUCH room for improvement! I really hope that the club gets the injection of life (and perhaps funds) needed to bring it up to scratch and give its members a better fitness experience. Until then, I don’t see myself coming back anytime soon.

Negative experience: The manager must be Spartan. Last 9 months , include winter , I have shower in cold water most of time . Kind enough there is hair dryer to warm body after shower .

Negative experience: I don't really mind the gym itself, but I had a bad experience with a personal trainer who was not helpful at all. After discussing with friends and other trainers, I realized I wasted my money on a scam. If you're serious about your health journey, I suggest looking elsewhere because the manager in charge of the trainers seems incompetent, and I doubt the credibility of the trainers here. Judging by other reviews, many people also have issues with the gym equipment and facilities. I recommend going to Plus Fitness instead, where there are experienced trainers and the equipment is up-to-date and hygienic.

Negative experience: Stay away from this club - terrible management and customer service. Charged me duplicate charges when I first signed up and did not process the refund despite months of follow up with their many levels of management. Staff brushes you off and doesn't take responsibility to follow up. Further belittling you for chasing up money they incorrectly took "Oh, but it was only $XX"... They only care about signing you up and getting your money - say goodbye to your money if they accidentally overcharge you. Suggest you go to another gym

Negative experience: This place is totally horrible specially regarding the membership. They are like jail once you enter you will be caged. they have all your card details then they will try everyway to keep your membership by applying as many as tricks they can. We have been trying to cancel my partners membership from last 7weeks when their policy is 4weeks notice. Now they are pretending to be not noticing his cancellation request, not replying to his emails and keep charging him fees when he has not even visited their awful gym once. Just think hundred times before you join this gym and they are the only gym I suppose that advertises free pass etc. Not recommended at all.

Positive experience: Nice convenient location at Carlingford Court shopping centre. Facilities in the change room can improve. Broken lockers and broken toilet locks are just a few. Swimming pool is annoying how that 4 of the 6 lanes have been permanently converted to half lengths and pool only be accessed at times when swimming lesson is not on. Joining membership is easy. Just call up and they will sign you up in minutes. However when trying to cancel membership after a year this process is complex. Complex to the point where the call centre told me I had to go to the gym in person to cancel. And when I did they wanted to charge me 4 weeks as “notice period” even though my 12 month lock in contract was finished. I am going to be out on site for work for a short period hence the reason for cancelling and was planning on rejoining in a few months. But now with this complex process I will rethink about returning.

Negative experience: I’m a member for more than 2years now and I can see that the condition of the gym is getting from bad to worst each day. The condition of the locker room is so bad that trying to find a usable locker is like winning a lucky draw prize. As for the shower, I’ve experienced the lack of hot water at least one out of three times I’m there. Management really need to look into these issues if you want to retain your loyal members.

Fitness first carlingford From the moment I walked in, it was evident that this facility is not maintained to any acceptable standard. Firstly, the equipment is in a deplorable state. Many machines are broken or malfunctioning, making it nearly impossible to get a proper workout. The weight benches, in particular, are very old and unstable, posing a significant risk of injury, especially to your back. The wear and tear on these benches are so pronounced that they seem as if they could collapse at any moment. Additionally, the overall hygiene of the gym leaves much to be desired. The cleanliness is subpar, with dirt and grime visible on both the floors and equipment. This lack of proper sanitation is not only off-putting but also a potential health hazard. To make matters worse, the equipment is not only broken but also outdated. The machines appear to be relics from decades past, lacking the modern features and safety standards found in contemporary gyms. This archaic equipment not only limits the effectiveness of your workout but also adds to the overall discomfort of using the facility. In summary, this gym fails on multiple fronts: broken and unstable equipment, poor hygiene, and outdated machines. It is not a place where you can have a safe, effective, or enjoyable workout. I strongly recommend looking elsewhere for a gym that meets basic standards of safety, cleanliness, and modernity. Avoid this place at all costs.

Negative experience: Do not recommend - I lived near Carlingford for a year and trained here 5 days a week. This gym is quite spacious but would not recommend to anyone as the equipments are never looked after well or maintaned. Hip abduction and extension machines were broken for 4-6 months. Upon asking the staff if I could personally lodge a maintenance request, they said it was done by a third party or another term which really did not make sense. Some the equipment seats are scruffed off bad and never maintained. The only time they did is to chalk write on machines the weight plate number during January when they had sale on and have to get new clients. The gym is busy almost all the time, 530-830am; 2-430pm; 530 pm onwards and then good crowd in 930pm. You have to wait for equipment but you get what you pay for. Been a member for 5 years, I paid less but I would never go back to FF again as i would pay $10 more each week to be at a good gym where hygene is maintained.

Negative experience: The worst gym I’ve been in life. The equipments are from 90s, questionable hygiene all over the place, but the worst part is the staff rudeness. Plenty untrained front desk staff that probably dislike their job and clueless about why they are there in the first place. If management can address these basic issues, you will have one of the best place for training due to size, parking convenience and great personal trainers. 24 hours access isn’t always available.

Negative experience: I have been trying to talk to the manager regarding a membership and keep being told they aren't there. I have called at 10am, 1230 1pm and 3pm on multiple different days and visited twice in person to still be told there is no manager. I have given 30 days notice to cancel a membership and been told the manager will follow me up. Then didn't hear anything for 34 days I then again went up in person to cancel which now they want another 30 days. Terrible business that won't even speak to you!!

Negative experience: This is my first-ever one-star Google review, and I'm feeling incredibly disappointed with this gym. I was approached by staff at Carlingford Court and persuaded to sign up for a membership due to no joining fee. Despite clearly informing the salesperson multiple times that I had injured my finger and wouldn't be able to start using the gym for four weeks, they assured me that my membership would only be activated after this period. However, upon signing the contract and providing my bank details, I was surprised to find that they started charging me immediately after I left. When I questioned why they were charging me immediately instead of after the agreed-upon four weeks, their response was that I needed to provide a medical certificate proving that my finger was unsuitable for gym activities. This lack of transparency left me feeling upset, and told them I want to cancel my membership immediately, then a team leader intervened, promising that I would receive two weeks free after the initial four weeks of charging. However, this promise was not upheld, and I found myself being charged continuously without the promised free weeks. Each time I raised this issue with the administration, they assured me that the free weeks would be applied after four weeks, but this never materialised. This cycle repeated three times until I finally decided to cancel my membership. The management team still use same trick, said they will offer me two weeks free, with the condition that I have to cancel my membership after this two weeks. Knowing their pattern of continuous charges, I declined the offer, preferring to forgo the promised two free weeks altogether. Overall, my experience with this gym has been disappointing and lacking in transparency. I would caution others to be wary of similar tactics and promises that may not be honored.
Fantastic experience: Great equipment and great atmosphere
Negative experience: The gym itself is fine, but I had a negative experience with their payment method. When my direct debit payment was declined, I wasn't notified by the gym, and instead had to discover it through my bank. Then, to make matters worse, when I tried to pay online immediately after noticing the decline, they charged an extra $10. This lack of communication and the penalty fee for a recent decline is frustrating. Additionally, I found their membership policy concerning. If you opt for a year-long membership and decide to cancel early, you're required to pay the remaining balance upfront. Overall, due to these issues, I wouldn't recommend this gym to others.
Negative experience: Do NOT in your wildest dreams EVER EVER EVER even consider taking out membership with Fitness First. Even when an injury prevents you from going to the gym, these people still want FOUR more weeks of payments regardless. These criminal scumbags do NOT deserve your business, go elsewhere. On 3 occasions the gym has overcharged me and never refunded the money back. They keep charging my wife even during the period her membership was on hold. Negative experience: I have been to most ff across nsw including dee why,st leonards,pennant hills,top ryde.Carlingford ff is by far the worst and worst managed.Their standard is getting lower by the day. The good:Good variety of equipment,large open space,pool and steam room available.I also like the PTs The bad:The establishment is filthy and not well maintained. The ugly:Most people at the reception do not care about anything or they are not empowered to do anything,or both.The management is simply non existent.I demand to talk to them to escalate issues and they do not even bother to even call back.I think it is safe to assume that this is a top down issue.The sauna gets broke evey second month and it takes another three months to get it fixed.
Negative experience: The gym used to be good, but it has taken a steep decline over the past two years. Almost every locker in the men's room is damaged and there are no locks on them. The men's toilets are stained and the hand wash area is disgusting. The floor wipes are often out of stock, and it takes a long time for broken machines to be fixed. I have seen kids smoking and vaping in the locker room frequently. The studio ceilings are falling apart and seem like they could collapse at any moment. During hot days, the air conditioning is pathetic and the gym feels like a hot sauna. The size weights are scattered all over the gym, and it takes a long time for people to find the right size dumbbells. Overall, the gym management needs to improve their maintenance and attend to the gym more frequently rather than leaving it in a sorry state.

Fantastic experience: My gym instructor Nick impressed me with his caring attitude towards the senior members of our community. I have never felt better although I have been with the gym barely six months. My doctor certifies to my change of appearance and level of fitness. Would earnestly ask every senior to join the gym to gain a new lease on life.
Positive experience: I only do classes and sometimes cardio machines. Can't comment on the weights machines, pool or showers since I don't use those. Pool gets too packed and I would rather shower at home. I like the variety of classes and most instructors. Still waiting for reformer pilates though which I was told 12 months ago was coming.
Positive experience: Compared to anytime fitness nearby, FF is way better and better maintained. Staff are quite friendly. I've seem machines out of order a few times but they get them fixed. I workout 4.30am and gym is pretty empty, however rush starts at around 6.30am. There are wet towels in close priximities. Toilets could be maintained better. They've got number of personal trainers one of which trains my mother and is quite knowledgeable with elderly and mobility training. Hope this helps.
Negative experience: I was offered a 'free trial', but upon coming in at the agreed time I was immediately taken to a private room to discuss membership deals. I didn't even get to look at the actual gym until I asked to! If you're interested in the pool, it's actually 2 x 25m lanes of 1.4m consistent depth, and is actually part of the next-door Carlile Swimming facility, so it's not really worth going here for aquatic activities as it only fits a maximum of 6 people and has very limited access hours. When I cancelled my membership, apparently nobody followed up and in that time period I was charged $140. By the time it was eventually cancelled ten days later, I had to remind them that as per the contract I would receive a refund, and was told that it would be processed by... the 8th of February, which really isn't the fastest timeframe. Not to mention that the staff were calling and texting my emergency contact on a twice-daily basis trying to get them to sign up! The staff member I was with had explicitly told me that the number would be only for record purposes and not for marketing, and she could only laugh nervously when I reminded her of the fact she had, in fact, gone against her word. I really did like her, but I don't feel like I can trust the staff here due to their questionable tactics. I can't speak to the quality of other equipment or classes, as I didn't use them in my short period here, but do be warned that attempting to cancel a membership is a very lengthy process that somehow stretched a 3-day matter into a 3-month one. Make sure you inspect the gym facilities properly before signing up, and read the contract so you know if you're entitled to a refund- especially if you cancel within the first 7 days. Oh, and probably best not to take any 'free trial' cards... don't make my mistake

Negative experience: My wife has been trying to cancel membership for two months. They have taken out 6 extra payments they shouldn’t have. Multiple emails and phone calls and no action. I have had to block them from my bank but I will have to waste more time chasing a refund. I would not recommend fitness first based on this bad business behaviour and will be lodging a complaint.
Fantastic experience: don’t usually leave reviews but i signed up to fitness first carlingford with Ryan and he was great, he answered all my questions and made my transition from my old gym to FF seamless. would give more stars but it’s unfortunately capped at 5

Fantastic experience: I recently joined Carlingford Fitness First. The friendly and welcoming staff greeted me on the day of inquiry, which immediately made me sign up. They offer FREE two training sessions, allowing me to work with an absolute gem, Thi. I ended up booking more sessions with her to learn more about 'Fitness'. Thi's knowledge and expertise have been instrumental in my fitness journey, and I am grateful to have her as my trainer. I recommend consulting if you want to get in the right direction for your fitness. This gym provides ample space and an abundance of equipment. The sauna is excellent as well. The swimming pool is a bit crowded and small, but no complaints about this. Swimming is scheduled once a week for me, I go somewhere else.
Positive experience: A lovely gym and plenty of equipment. Staff are friendly and the facilities are excellent. Just be aware when trying to cancel your membership. This can not be done on site. They make you call Fitness First customer service to cancel. They purposely make it difficult and charge you an extra month.
Negative experience: Hey owner!! Could you cleaning for shower room ? Does your shower room have this many molds? I've been taking a shower here for over a year It's a mold heaven If I come to exercise and get sick, can I legally claim it?

Positive experience: Better than DeeWhy Platinum FF by a mile. Joined up by referral but no bonus items. 4x price of Crunch, but less equipment, no weight labels cause the equipment is broken, free weights all over, people slamming their weights and allowed to, people have their bags with them cluttering the space, no hand towels. Disappointing, I thought for paying 4x the price per week I’d get more, but I got worse. To top it off, I have to hold a card for FF, but Crunch has a barcode system so you can just use your phone to scan in. FF could use their money to invest in their sites. Even their bathroom mirrors are falling apart. Mid.

Negative experience: Very bad experience in this gym… if you sign up for this gym, the trainer will ask you to move away from your equipment anytime, just because they want to do classes with their customers. And they will not tell you this when you sign up. Very rude staff with bad attitude, and treat to call security if I just want to finish my training and not willing to move space for their classes. I understand they wanna do their classes to earn money, but I also paid for the gym. Not a pleasant experience here at all! And when I asked for my right to do my normal workout, one of the staff claim that “Give you 25 dollar, You go to other gym”. Wow what an attitude to talk to customers… Will report that to fair trading and their head office for sure.
Negative experience: I am writing to express some concerns regarding the current state of the gym facilities and services. As paying members, we expect and deserve an excellent gym experience, but unfortunately, there are several issues that need to be addressed: Equipment Condition: The equipment in the gym is very old, to the point where the weight marks on the machines are barely visible. Additionally, given the high traffic of the gym, there is a shortage of bars and pull-down tools for the cable station. For instance, there are around 10 bar stations, but only one for each type of tool, leading to considerable wait times. Unfriendly Staff: Regrettably, the sales staff, has not been friendly at all. I recently had a negative customer experience with the staff. I would appreciate it if you could reach out to me for further details regarding what transpired. Bath Area Amenities: The bath area lacks essential amenities such as shelves or hooks to hold bags or clothes. Furthermore, there is no privacy as one must undress before accessing the showers. Environmental Conditions: Despite being a 24/7 gym, the environment becomes sweaty and smelly, especially in the afternoon and evening. This detracts from the overall workout experience and motivation.
Negative experience: ABSOLUTE JOKE, staff gives no attention about you, equipment is somewhat good, but the payment is absolutely ridiculous as they randomly charge you $10 out of nowhere when you’ve already paid for the week that day so total for me was $32 a week when it’s meant to be $22 a week
Fantastic experience: Great Gym, extremely clean and well kept. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Manager is very polite and gets things done quickly. Enjoy training here a lot.

Positive experience: !!PAYMENTS!! - just ask for clarity Just make sure you are extremely aware of payment situations and that it is made very clear. You will most likely have to make payments over a certain amount of time and there is a heavy cancellation fee to withdraw before that. So if you lose interest in FF after signing up, you will either have to pay an absurd amount, or just a smaller absurd amount. I was not told about this so I'm telling you. Granted, although communication on payment seemed pretty unclear, I should have asked for clarity. It might have just been a one-off for my sign up, maybe communication is normally better, but it is hidden somewhere in the mountain of paperwork in the terms and conditions you don't have time to read through, so just ask about it so you know what's going on. Actual gym is pretty good with decent equipment and most staff are good to chat with, just gets pretty crowded at times like most gyms

Negative experience: I don’t know why people giving high rates for facility. I highly recommend classes and instructors however, the facility is HORRIBLE!! Water leaking during the class from the ceiling. There are average 20-30 people each class and no wonder the shower room never gets crowed. The steam room never worked since I joined, and the shower rooms are disgusting. Full of moulds … no soap, water taps are not functioning and most importantly … DISGUSTING! I wouldn’t recommend to friends even with all those special promotions. I would give five stars for classes but nothing else.
Positive experience: Massive gym and very clean and convenient but it's got everything you need however there's not many leg machines and the 2 Squat racks are always taken.
Negative experience: I was joining the member because of the classes n steam room. But the steam room has been out of the service for a months. That’s so disappointed for the facility management.

Negative experience: It’s the worst gym that i’ve been to. If you want to step on a piece of glass then use swimming pool, but they won't do anything for you as you signed the form! You need to hire a lawyer to get paid.
Negative experience: I have been a member with FF since 2016 and most clubs were very helpful and supportive until i came across Carlingford club. My membership started with wrong payment setup, then they had no card to issue me for a month, i had to chat to someone everytime i would enter, worst came when I requested for cancellation due to a medical issue. They asked for a medical certificate from a GP. While I explained i got my treatment overseas and i do have supporting documents for it, to get such a document i will have to run to a specialist and no doctor here will write me a certificate unless i have taken treatment in Australia. Guess what they gave me an even better answer, we checked and we need a “DETAILED” certificate which explains the whole thing. If someone is already distressed due to their health this is how a fitness club like fitness first Carlingford treats them. Way to go guys! Keep it up! You can do worse!!

Positive experience: Staff is very good but the overall facility is little old It’s very big gym but gym equipments are very old They need replacement also not enough for this big size facility you can’t complete all the prescribed set/reps in one go you have to wait and have to find weight/bars and stuff like that Cardio equipment are fine with good stock but weight equipment are very less Always buys now they have changed the timing which is going to get more hard with the equipment They are 24/7 open gym I have got it confirmed! I have tried Macquarie Park gosh that’s such a big shock they don’t even have enough cardio machines if you want to got gym before work at there you gonna late to work or have to skip your training .. Since I have joined I don’t even remember I have complete my plan a single day I alway do substitute or skip exercise that is me I have tried evening and morning hours both I found busy
Fantastic experience: This review is for Zac (Gym manager) Although FF HQ let themselves down and embarrassed the brand, Zac took on an issue that wasn't his and fixed it within 24 hours. This issue was with FF HQ for 8 months! Zac....took 24 hours... Zac, thank you. Professional, to the point, you didn't waste my time and you did it politely. Cant ask for anything more. Thank you

Fantastic experience: Been training frequently now for the past year at Carlingford FF. Great facilities, always clean. What stood out for me was the level of service and willingness to help excel my training from Matt Woosthuizen who’s one of the trainers, he’s evidently highly passionate about what he does and provides raw advice that’s best suited and I have only seen evident improvements in myself after following the program he created for me. If you’re looking to get into personal training and unsure who to pick; I’d highly recommend Matt as I’ve noticed a high level of progression in my performance and training and I’m sure you will too.
