Speedo Fitness Club

Negative experience: We received short notice that Speedos Bondi was closing after already paying in advance for swim classes. Instead of providing a refund, management are only providing ‘make up tokens’ despite the club closing and these tokens being worthless. It was the decision of management to close the club, it is extremely poor that they are not refunding customers for classes they are no longer providing

Positive experience: Love the aquaspin classes.

Fantastic experience: My local Bondi Beach gym - I swim in the pool, shower in the individual change rooms and do Pilates once or twice a week - all for just over $20 a week (and this year I'm going to learn how to use the weight machines as well as - apparently my old bones need it...).

Fantastic experience: Great gym, unlike other gyms in Sydney, they are very accommodating when pausing & cancelling your membership. The gym can get busy during peak hours and is a bit small but has all the equipment and in good condition. The staff are great, I would recommend!

Negative experience: The worst gym in Syndey, very few machines, plus I wanted to unsubscribe, I went twice to reception and they didn't do it, then they told me to send them an email and they would unsubscribe me, I did it and they charged me 3 times more, I spoke to them and they did nothing and gave me no solution, don't sign up here!

Negative experience: Tried this swim school for my son. Wasn’t impressed at all. Have gladly switched started at a nearby Bondi Beach swim school. Glad I did.

Negative experience: The swim school never returned calls about canceling swimming lessons or messages then continued to take payment. When I rang up to discuss a new payment being taken out, even though we haven’t been there for over a month. Their receptionist was extremely rude and said there was no person I could speak with. Also said she had had enough I’m discussing the issue with me because she had been on the phone for 40 minutes to me, except my phone showed it had been 15 minutes and I wanted a solution to the problem which she couldn’t help with. Trying to cancel lessons was so difficult as no one ever answered the phone. My reason for cancelling was due to the pool being set too cold of babies to swim in. They are unprofessional and rude. Find a nicer place for you and your child to swim. We have found a much more suitable and professional place which makes swimming lessons fun for both baby and mother

Negative experience: THE WORST GYM of all BONDI. My subscription ended and before it ends I told them that I was not going to continue with them, they charged me the same as the following week, I am still waiting for them to return the money they took from me. I sent thousands of emails I am answered by a person who calls himself “Alex” saying that they are going to return it to me I send him my bank details 4 times and that still does not happen. THE WORST OF ALL

Fantastic experience: Great gym, front desk staff are super welcoming and helpful (I met Alex and he was a legend!). Equipment is top quality and really well maintained.

Negative experience: Swim School: If you want your kids to learn how to swim, do yourself a favour and don't take them to this place.

Negative experience: I was working there after leaving domestic violence. I'd a bit of extra weight on. I had my boss, an ex Olympian arrive at work one day and exclaim rudely " what are you doing here?" It was terrible. I was covering someone else's shift. Then I had a work rash vest almost physically taken off me because another staff member just wanted to wear it. I had my old clothes underneath and - that day in particular was very uncomfortable without it. Then, when I'd advised my supervisor of my stress levels over an incredibly difficult financial week, I reacted to something said to me by the man who owned the building. I just said something that didn't sound right, but it was a known stress response and I'd described it to my supervisor. Instead of being supportive he made fun of it and asked if I needed medication. Which I didn't. Personal trainers were rude to me trying to act like quasi drs and I was very upset. The incident when I'd informed my employer - should have been easily resolved. Instead I was banned from his building. Oddly though, he may not remember the intensely stressful time at the beginning of the company I worked for being there when he and my boss were exceedingly silently angry with each other and how distressing it was to be present for that. Not OK.

Negative experience: I took my 10 month old to her very first lesson and time in the water. As mentioned their email only i could accompany her in the class, which makes it very hard with a baby but I thought I could somehow manage with the pram as I can put her in there whilst getting ready before and after from the water. When I got there I was told to leave the pram outside (that wasn't mentioned) It was impossible mainly getting her out and ready by myself with nowhere to put her down (floors were wet and no safe for a baby) and her quite frightened as she won't really be held by strangers. I had to call a family member to drive over come and help as I had seen everyone else were able to bring there partners for help. I emailed them straight away expressing how upset I was that this happened, it's been 2 weeks and never even got a response. I've now wasted money in the rest of the month for her lessons. Avoid avoid avoid.

Fantastic experience: Clean, local and good prices. Excellent customer service! Dealt with an issue swiftly and professionally.

Negative experience: Just signed up today, they gave me a 'fob' to get in at 'anytime 24/7'. Surprise came when after 2 hours of signing up with them, went to the gym and the fob didn't work... That was disappointing and even more after paying more than $100 and paying the day of today...

Positive experience: Swimming lessons for kids (<2y old) were fun at the beginning but after a while you realise that the lessons are always the same and your kid is not progressing anymore. The teacher is lovely. If you do miss a class, they give you a makeup token that you can only use under very strict conditions. Also, pool is heated which is great during the winter. And the facilities are clean but not adapted for <5year old kids at all! Good for a start! Thanks!

Negative experience: Después de 5 meses de haber cancelado el pase al gimnasio, acaba de ingresar un cobro a mi cuenta de banco. SON UNOS VERDADEROS ESTAFADORES! NO LO RECOMIENDO. Con mi amigo tuvimos otros inconvenientes en donde supuestamente ya estaban solucionados y ahora me encuentro otra vez con esto. 0% recomendable

Positive experience: Just signed up to use the gym over the holiday season. I was told the gym is unstaffed over the holiday season and given a ‘fob’ to enter from there 24/7 entrance. Guess what? The ‘fob’ doesn’t work, what a waste of money.

Negative experience: I have been to this gym 4 times this week and asked for an invoice. They are not capable to send me this invoice, despite telling me 4 times that they would do it right away. The person at the reception is just not capable.

Negative experience: I'll make another comment because after I paid the cancellation of the gym which is already a scam, 3 months later they charge me a fee of 78 dollars. I take advantage of this situation to inform people who want to go to this gym not to do so, since the cancellation is extremely tedious and on top of that they come to charge you things when you already thought they were cancelled.

Negative experience: Swim school is good for bubs, but don’t expect any consistency once they move up from this level. Teachers were transient so turnover is extremely high which isn’t ideal for young children learning to swim. Facilities are clean and good, but very cold drafts as the ice cold aircon from the gym rushes through when anyone enters or leaves via the gym automatic doors.

Fantastic experience: It's a great gym. I love going there

Negative experience: Used to have the best baby swim school ever, sadly they’ve lost their greatest asset (the gent who ran the bubs classes) and no longer is up to scratch.

Negative experience: Been there for about a year and been robbed out of my ass for a gym that is not worth the price. I’m a university student that is struggling enough to pay my bills and I get charged for being unable to go to the gym because of university and then to top the cherry off get charged an extra $10 because their billing system is unable to take my money even though i showed proof of money on my account. Then get a month bulkbilled to me or $230 so now I’m late on my rent and had to ask my parents for a loan. Besides the money the gym is very small, at some hours there are about 40 people and the place is the side of 2 school classrooms. Saw with group lessons where the fitness and cables are so just unable to use them at times. Getting towels are good also would be good if soap would be in the showers at least over half the times. The price has also gone up to 70 or something so yeah over priced and just cause it’s bondi doesn’t mean it’s worth it by any means

Negative experience: Unfortunately Speedos Fitness did not live up to expectations at all. The only reason I can provide 2 stars is becuase of how friendly the staff is. That aside, during my experience, I had multiple issues. - The gym was always overcrowded, there is not enough space provided for the amount of members - In peak times, you often found yourself off to the side waiting for equipment to become available - Classes were often full and unavailable - There was a week the bathrooms were inaccessible during unstaffed hours with no warning - When emailing the gym to ask to be let out of our contract early, becuase we were having an awful experience, our request was turned down. We were given two weeks free, however, that did not make up for the 3 months we paid for a membership we did not use because we felt so uncomfortable. I did email the club and to combat these issues, and we were told the following... - train later or earlier to combat busy times, however as I work 6am-4pm, peak times are really the only time available to me - While the gym is quite busy, we are expanding our gym floor and opening a new studio. However, upon the end of our membership, the studio still had not opened - More classes were being added, but you can always come at the time of the class and see if there’s room. However, even the added classes were full, and it’s unreasonable to travel to the gym in hopes that someone won’t show up and you may get a spot. As I said, the staff is amazing. However, if you’re somebody who wants space to train and easy access to classes, this gym probably will not suit your needs.

Fantastic experience: I swim at Speedo Fitness Club Bondi on a regular basis. The staff are always good for a chat when you walk through the door and ready with a "... need a big towel" and a smile. Love this place, especially the bathrooms.

Negative experience: I went for a trial; not much introduction or assistance. Small & crowded at 6am, not my vibe unfortunately.

Positive experience: My son went to the swimming classes here and personally it's not for us. Big classes, and they basically swim 3m one way and paddle back. We addressed some feedback and they explained that this is how they work. EDIT* After posting this review Speedo's reached out to me to handle this, which is really good.

Positive experience: Overall it's not a bad gym, but here is a few things why I can't give 5*. - gym is really small, no space for some stretching on exercising on a mat - too much aircondition - room for group lessons is also too small, also I had often problem that floor was really slippery that limited me during exercising - personally I didn't enjoy morning running lesson with Kirsten at all, cause just come to the beach few times running there and back without any enjoyable workout I can by myself too - on the other hand I like zumba lesson and aqua spinning with Carlos, such a fun! - free towels is a good benefit - friendly stuff on the reception * I was a member few months ago, so maybe after reconstruction all will be better :-)

Negative experience: Had my son there for a trial and had to pay upfront $112 for a month. The place is very small, crowded and noisy and poor staff attendance. My son (5 years) did not enjoy the place (super noisy with low ceilings) although I tried twice. Asked for a refund as he was not in the water for once. Did not get a refund which is disappointing. A big NO for me. Never again. This review reflects only the pool. Not the gym.

Fantastic experience: A terrific gym with a great people - Staff and guests alike. The facilities are also fantastic; towels are provided, pool spin classes are now free and through summer they're starting up outdoor sessions. Highly recommended!

Fantastic experience: SFC has surpassed my expectations as a club, the staff is super friendly and the equipment is kept clean. It’s an elegant boutiquey gym with all the essentials necessary to get a solid workout with great vibes all-around, highly recommend it!

Fantastic experience: Great little gym in the heart of Bondi. Trainers were awesome, especially Levi who went out of his way to help. If you want a slightly more personal gym without that ‘industrial feel’ then this would be a good gym for you.

Negative experience: Been there to ask stop membership and it has been told to me that everything will be done once 1year of membership will be achieved, basically 2/3 weeks later. I asked if any form needed to be filled out or giving the key back but apparently no need. Then after 5 weeks I still had payement going through, I came a second time to re-ask stop memebership and for a refund of the last fortnight but I apparently needed to wait for manager to sort that out and once again it has be said member ship will be defenitly stoped. But recently I had again a month of payement going throug. I sent a email and explained situation but no refund possible. Because it has be told to me that no form or anything was needed now $140 been "stolen" from me. I think this is not professional at all. Manager was really good to explain all rules, I wish I've seen him first time I came. Anyway really not happy after all tho.

Fantastic experience: This is an absolutely incredible gym! The staff all display exemplary service by providing all members with the utmost care and respect during their time at the Club. The trainers are experienced in all areas of fitness which provides members with a fitness experience catered to their individual needs. The equipment is all exceptional and there is something for everyone, whether you want to smash out a few laps in the pool or take advantage of the free classes offered with your membership I truly feel like I get the best out of the club! If you're looking to train in Bondi, don't look any further than this exclusive yet community-based gym right in the heart of Bondi!

Positive experience: I have changed my fitness habits since I have been going to Gold's Gym. Its a neat and modern installations make you feel comfortable and satisfaced, its space can fit the right amount of people yet is quite small you can still move around and gave a good training. The pt are very friendly and the staff in general very kind.

Fantastic experience: The gym has a wide variety of machines and loose weights. One can pretty much train every muscle with all the machines they have. It is basicly a full iron gym! The people are friendly and the changing room is large. staff and trainers always happy to help and always smiling!

Negative experience: When the gym opened I was told I was not under contract until I was able to see the gym. I never heard from them until they sent me an email telling me "they missed seeing me at the gym" I called and said I am not a member although at this point they said unfortunately there was NO WAY I WAS EVER GETTING OUT OF THIS CONTRACT. This all came from the manager Matt, who I have been told doesn't pay staff properly and from an earlier post does not pay the gym bills. As i had to go to the gym, I had a fitness consult and fit plan which after 2 weeks completely aggravated the shoulder injury I had told them about. After 3 months off to recover I then tried to make another fitness consult which they asked me to pay $90 for, once I explained my AWFUL experience it was even to me for free.. The trainer at this point gave me 4 pretty basic exercises I can do for my programme which don't really warrant going to the gym for. Given what I know now I definitely would not have joined. I have been under whelmed through every part of my experience here

Negative experience: I signed up to a Gold's gym, now after returning from overseas for a few months (I left before the gym opened) I have been told I'm a member is Speedo's gym. Not exactly the training mecca I signed up for. Absolutely disgusting behaviour by the licensee, to firstly not even notify me of the intended change, and then by refusing to cancel my contract, for a product I didn't sign up for. Extremely unprofessional and unethical treatment of a member that's paid every month even though I wasn't in the country. Disgusting behaviour and obviously evident of their great business ethos - money comes first not its members. Look elsewhere to train!
