Negative experience: I will be cancelling my membership and not because of my own experience. I have been with Genesis for roughly two years without any issues. I even encouraged my partner to switch from Anytime Fitness because of the great experience I had always had. Unfortunately, I now feel embarrassed for ever recommending this gym. Whenever I have made a late payment, I have always been notified clearly and charged a ten dollar late fee which is completely understandable with perfect communication. However, while my partner was also charged occasional late fees, she was never notified about any outstanding debt or the possibility of her membership being cancelled. The only reason she found out was because she tried to enter the gym one day and was denied access. A lovely staff member explained there was a small debt, which confused her because she had been paying late fees. She confirmed her email and phone number were correct in the system and immediately attempted to reach out through other channels to resolve the communication issue and pay the small amount owing. Within just three days, that small debt suddenly turned into a large one, again with no contact from the club, and she then discovered the matter had been handed to debt collectors. For the record, the debt collectors have been more polite, helpful and informative than any staff member at Genesis. They have also CONFIRMED they have email threads with the club. My partner has tried to show evidence proving she was never contacted. She even offered to pay the original small debt and continue her membership, but Genesis staff refused to speak with her. They cut her off mid conversation, repeated that they never deal with debt collection and said the matter was out of their hands. Not once have they shown any understanding, reviewed her evidence of zero communication or even attempted to have a respectful discussion. Instead, they have hung up on her and refused further contact. I find this behaviour absolutely unacceptable and strongly advise people to steer clear of this gym. There are many gyms in Cairns so please choose a different one. RESPONSE: since I can’t respond directly to your reply here is what I have to say. Firstly, she’s already requested the copies of this! No one has provided her with them. Secondly, you may have “contacted” her but if you review the evidence she has collected - there is an issue with YOUR system. Therefore, I believe the response should one of understanding and grace. She has only received disrespect.

Negative experience: I’m quite disappointed with this experience. If i can gave no star i gave no star for Genesis.

Positive experience: Manunda gym is pretty good, got functional area, pool, sauna ,group fitness etc. machines are no high end but little old fashion but does the job

Negative experience: If you are looking for a gym where anything goes this is the gym for you. WH&S barely exists, feel free to train in crocs and no one checks to see if people are using towels and wiping.

Fantastic experience: Genesis sportsworld is the people's gym. The diversity of ages, body shapes, fitness levels and cultures makes for a very safe space. I decided to try the Coaching Zone to learn some more exercises to do on my own but ended up staying because of the beautiful and encouraging community and the awesome program of training sessions.

Negative experience: Awful woman on the front desk. Went to access the free trial but I didn’t have proof of Cairns residency on me. She was rude! The only thing she was interested in was me joining… I told her there is no way I’m signing up for a gym without trying it first. I also told her I would go elsewhere….. and I did. You lost a membership that day in the space of 5 minutes.

Negative experience: Signed up for 6 months on the premium membership to use the reformer Pilates. Positive experience: Lots of equipment, really clean and tidy, gets busy but they've done pretty well utilising the space to give lots of exercise options.

Negative experience: Terrible service. Even if you're on a contract be aware that you will be charged for a full month after you cancel (dodgy). Most cable machines in main workout area will prick you due to wear'n'tear. Group activities and squash courts are top tier.

Negative experience: they don’t offer casual passes unless you're a local. The old blonde woman at the front desk was quite rude about how she communicated that — looked like she didn’t want to be there, definitely not a great first impression. Please teach your employees how to communicate properly or hire someone who can! I’d recommend checking out World Gym down the road instead—they have excellent customer service & do casual passes, No questions asked!

Negative experience: Rude, unprofessional and incapable of providing an email response to a situation that occurred here after granting 14 days for response. If you're looking for place of sanctuary and relaxation, plus a good work out....go somewhere else...we went to genesis in town and realised my friends membership had been cancelled on the premise that he was wearing inappropriate footwear, when the actual reason was because he pointed out a healthy and safety issue and was called a 'smart arse' by the blonde woman, he was still allowed to use the spa after understanding the shoes he had on were inappropriate, so it wasn't the actual reason they cancelled it, it was therefore false . Genesis team members in Cairns city were delightful. Go there instead. No pool, but no wannabe manager egos.

Fantastic experience: I signed up because of the ladies only section , which I really enjoy. My biggest appreciation is that they attempt to be as inclusive as possible. I am autistic with high sensitivity to loud music, and they have been quite accommodating where possible, Thank you so much:)

Negative experience: Only gym i have ever been to that doesnt offer casual rates, in a town full of transient workers backpackers etc seems insane. World gym round the corner will accommodate you

Negative experience: the worst experience! This gym only seeks to keep your money with complex clauses and non-immediate cancellations, even when you request suspension they charge you. I have never felt so robbed in my life.

Positive experience: Positives: • Included classes are great and the instructors are amazing • Swimming pool & saunas are a nice inclusion • Generally not too busy and good space around the gym Negatives: • Expensive sign up fee for no reason. You have to register yourself on a tablet and pay for the pleasure of it • Some equipment and parts of the building are showing their age. There are cheaper gyms in Cairns with much nicer/newer equipment and more variety Staff are lovely except one who has been mentioned numerous times in other reviews but doesn't seem interested in taking it on board.

Positive experience: Most staff are very helpful Personal trainers rarely make eye contact and appear unengaging to gym members - how much business do they miss by not engaging Gym and facilities are great The gym owner may want to think about who is on reception You only need to read feedback to understand the many complaints about a particular person - rude and abrupt and unhelpful The others are fantastic and young gigi is an absolute champion- so friendly and helpful Adds so much value to the gym

Negative experience: Very disappointed with this gym. They advertise a 2-week free pass but refused to honor it because I don’t have a local driver’s license, even though I provided proof of living here and payslips. This policy is absurd and feels like false advertising. If this is how they treat potential members, I won’t bother signing up

Negative experience: So sad I went to sportworld genesis today to have a free trial and to look around the gym as I was thinking of signing up too. Lady in Pink hair in the reception refused me for a free trial. Hopefully other gym will not refused me.

Fantastic experience: Best gym in cairns It feels big and spacious inside with more than enough equipment. two cardio areas and two group session rooms. Awesome outdoor area with a big swimming pool, a spa and large decent size sauna and an infrared sauna plenty of showers, and parking and lovely staff. Not mention squash courts yet I’m yet to use. And I just like the vibe here. Can’t fault at all

Fantastic experience: Genises Health and Fitness has 8 airconditioned squash courts with glass backs. They are kept in good condtion. Gigi, one of the staff members, is a very friendly person and always has a smile on her face.

Negative experience: Went in to ask about memberships and prices and the staff lady with the pink hair was not friendly and had a hostile approach. She also looked like she was rushing me, although reception was empty. It made me not want to sign up with this gym

Negative experience: The staff is real unhelpful and have no clue about their facilities, called them and got the replied will send me an confirm email but I got nothing. Keep an eye on your bank account as you made a membership plan changed with them but they still charge you the same price! And staff did not know anything how to solve the issue. Sauna, pool, facilities are good, but unfortunately staffs and the operation are really shitty.

Fantastic experience: Love the Zumba class with Deb , she is amazing

Negative experience: Possibly the worst gym I have ever been to. Signed up for a free trial as I just moved to Cairns, went in with my family as they all already work out at Genesis. I was greeted by a very rude receptionist who refused my id because it didn’t have my local cairns address, even though I’ve only just moved up and my family has been living here for 20+ years. I told them that my brother, mum and dad all work out at genesis and I wanted to see if it is the right gym for me but she still refused and demanded I pay $15 casual entry. I paid the entry without hassle to only be confronted by the most out of date gym equipment. Unfortunately after this experience, my family and I will be moving to a different gym due to the poor facilities and unfriendly staff at reception. As a social media guide I will not be recommending these facilities to any future customers due to this harsh and confronting experience on all platforms.

Negative experience: Keep an eye on your bank statements if you are a member here, they take extra payments from your account, and they will refuse to refund despite the proof! Also if you cancel your membership they continue taking money after the 4 weeks notice period!

Negative experience: Rude staff and dirty facility

Fantastic experience: I have been a member of multiple gyms across Cairns but none boast the true sense of community like this gym. The facilities offer something for everyone and it has the true feel of a place of wellness. I get tremendous value from my membership and plan to use this particular gym for years to come.

Negative experience: The gym itself is good but the problem is misleading email. They send you an email about bringing a friend for free but you should have a « local ID » which is not written in the T&C conditions. It’s a shame that working and living here is not considered as local… the way they talk to you looks like they don’t care about keeping their members

Positive experience: Well, just to say that the gym is great, nothing to say, which seems unfortunate to me, that I notified them and they gave me an email to cancel the membership since I was leaving the city for personal reasons on 03/13 and I gave a month's notice. and today being 04/23 they still charge me every week. I find it terrible that they don't want to cancel the subscription.

Positive experience: Had a trial of reformer pilates. Was a great session really felt the burn after that session. Great atmosphere in the reformer section. Heaps of beds for a large group session.

Negative experience: I suggest not seeing a Personal Trainer from Genesis as they rip you off, i paid $250 for 5 sessions and was told i could use those sessions whenever as there was no time limit...due to illness i had to cancel my membership..went back a year later as i felt better but was told i could no longer use those sessions i paid for as the limit was a year..woman never said i needed to use them in a year...very disappointed with there service..will not be recommending them to anyone.

Fantastic experience: Gigi the aqua aerobics instructor is my favourite! Everytime I walk past her at reception she always has the biggest smile. What a bubbly and beautiful young lady.

Fantastic experience: Plenty of equipment and space even in the busiest times. Friendly receptionists and instructors who run the fitness classes, which there are many to choose from. Good old school gym overall.

Negative experience: I register for a trial session and once in the room I am denied access because I am a backpacker so I am not allowed to do a trial session, only Australians are there authorized. First of all, it was never stipulated on the form (which would be good to do to avoid wasting people's time!). Then I was offered to pay to try!! I remain surprised by this absurdity because at least the other rooms offer to see the equipment available before joining. Plus, there's no entry fee! So thank you to Generis for stopping sending me emails to push me to register if you are not even able to stipulate the conditions!! I would never go there because there is no organization, no information but a lot of people, yes! The hallway that I could see was full of people

Negative experience: Attention to anyone who wants to join or cancel their membership. If you go the no lock in contract route they will still charge you for a further 30 days. My suggestion is go with a better gym

Positive experience: Great gym with lots of facilities, love the pool, good crowd of regulars and helpful staff. Good assortment of classes. I'd give it five stars if it had some boxing bags.

Fantastic experience: The front desk and aqua couch, Gigi! Was fantastic and great to deal with. She has a kind and caring attitude towards all members. Gigis attitude has made my experience at sportsworld better than any other gym.

Negative experience: Absolute rubbish!! Tried cancelling membership due to illness and can not get on to anyone and when the finally did get back to me after weeks. Telling me I have to pay a cancellation fee.....this illness is something out of my control and now I have to continue paying for something that I'm not and can't use!! Just adding more stress to an already stressful situation.

Negative experience: I rocked up this morning to be ungratefully greeted by a blonde lady that was very rude. she basically yelled WERE CLOSED ! Through the entrance glass door. No good morning welcome. Was extremely unwelcoming . The gym says it’s open 24/7. I said to her it’s supposed to be open 24 seven and then she goes WE OPDN at 8!!!!!! She didn't even say come back soon nothing. she definitely woke up on the wrong side of the bed but no way to treat customers.

Positive experience: Westcourt Sportsworld is a legendary landmark in Cairns and while it has seen better days it is still very practicable and homely. Having said that, the Genesis staff have made this Cairns local a welcoming addition to the fitness world with their warm welcomes and friendly attitude. Thanks Genesis

Positive experience: I'm not too picky on gyms I go to, as long as there's weights, machine & is big enough where it doesn't feel claustrophobic. This particular gym does have some pretty outdated equipment, which isn't really that bad compared to the sheer volume of equipment and other activities they offer. The fountain I drank water from had a pretty disgusting chlorine smell and taste to it and some of the free weights and plates were so filthy that my white t-shirt got covered in dirt. Either than that, gets the job done.

Fantastic experience: Best gym around - by far! Huge selection of equipment, friendly & helpful staff, and so clean & hygenic...which is super important right now. Highly recommend. Also has really affordable memberships. It's my favourite place to go.

Positive experience: Large sporting complex with squash courts and a swimming pool. More of a casual, comfortable, fun, and all ages type of fitness place, rather than the serious gym junkie vibe. You won't feel out of place here if you don't have a six pack. Also, girls at reception are super friendly and welcoming.

Positive experience: I was horrified to see that Google described Sportsworld as a small gym when it is Cairns largest!!. I have been a member here for years now and love its spacious atmosphere.

Fantastic experience: A fantastic gym! The staff are amazing, they are very friendly and welcoming people. They always have a smile on their faces as soon as I walk in, they always greet me and say goodbye whenever I'm there and its such a great feeling every time. This gym has everything you need all for a cheap price, and having access to the pool spa and sauna is a bonus.

The receptionist was very friendly and helpful and the facility is fantastic. It seems like a real allround place for sporting activities. Fantastic experience: I go here nearly everyday. I do a gym circuit and then usually have a swim in the large outdoor pool. I was doing Zumba class, now I do Aquarobics, Body Balance, thinking of doing Body Pump and Body Combat. Great complex, friendly with a great diversity of people. There are also Squash courts if you're keen and other classes. Personal trainers too

Negative experience: Great gym the only few negatives I have is the equipment needs servicing or replacing and the out doors area needs to be open Abit longer or after ours because some people work awkward ours and need to make full use of the facility that's all and it should have a basketball court or hoop NBA style.
