KOPD Boxing: Opinions
Fantastic experience: A great experience, both in one-to-one setting and as part of a class. Highly recommended.
Hi Ron, thank you so much for the kind review!
Fantastic experience: Hi I have attended the session at Gladesville on Saturday. I took my wife who has Parkinson’s for last three years. She has enjoyed the session which has lots of statistics in relation to disease. It was eye opener for both of us. We learn few important lessons to implement in her day to day life. We thank you to the organisers. We recommend to everyone who has Parkinson.
Fantastic experience: Great group of trainers empathic to the needs of fellow compatriot who have Parkinsons. By sharing experiences is comforting for meeting the needs of our group of participants. Great work Tom Kaelin. And the management. Recommend to anybody that has Kay that has Parkinson’s Michael
Hi Michael, thank you so much for your kind words!
Fantastic experience: Experienced exercise physiologist, Nate Lum, has taken a program designed in 2014 by Adrian Unger (OAM), called Punchin’ Parko’s, and incorporated the high-intensity, complex, challenging and engaging disciplines of Boxing, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, MMA and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu into the current dynamic KOPD group therapy sessions with the targeted aim of improving the strength, conditioning, co-ordination, balance, gait and agility of people with Parkinson's disease. Boxing, with its emphasis on footwork, punches, and defensive maneuvers, is particularly effective in improving coordination, balance, and agility. Muay Thai and MMA bring in unique exercises to build core strength and promote whole-body movement. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu’s groundwork techniques and grappling are helpful for enhancing flexibility, joint mobility, and spatial awareness. KOPD’s focus on coordination—whether through punch combinations, defensive maneuvers, or timed movements are specifically designed to combat the symptoms of PD by focusing on areas most impacted by the disease which I have found particularly beneficial for improving my motor skills that have been affected by PD, both my fine and gross motor coordination, as well as my hand-eye coordination, and reaction time, my posture, walking gait, alignment and movement patterns. The agility and balance work incorporated into each class has helped to reduce my risk of falling, a common concern for those with PD, and the conditioning aspect of the training has improved my muscular strength, contributing to reduced fatigue, enhanced stability, endurance, confidence and daily functionality. It also aids in counteracting some of the cognitive and non motor challenges that come with Parkinson's. This aspect of cognitive-physical integration has been crucial in delaying my disease progression and improving my overall mental health and quality of life. Nate and his supportive KOPD instructors, Kaelyn, Tom and Monique are well-trained and focussed on managing the specific and unique needs of PD patients. They offer modifications and adapt exercises to the capabilities of each participant, ensuring safety and maximizing therapeutic benefit. Classes are structured to gradually increase in intensity, allowing participants to build confidence in their abilities while avoiding injury. The group dynamic in the class environment fosters a sense of welcome, community, social support, motivation, understanding, shared experiences and knowledge, reducing the isolation often times felt by those living with a chronic condition. Overall, KOPD exercise physiology therapy classes have offered an innovative and highly beneficial approach to managing my Parkinson’s disease and delaying its inevitable progression. Creatively integrating mixed martial arts techniques, the program targets key areas of strength, conditioning, coordination, balance, and agility in a fun and supportive environment. For anyone looking for an engaging and comprehensive way to improve their physical well-being while managing the effects of Parkinson’s disease, KOPD offers a promising and empowering solution.

Fantastic experience: KOPD is an excellent gym.Exercise programs are tailored for PD . Nate , Kay and Tom are great trainers/ coaches and are very empathetic to all who attend.I have loved my 3 months there
Thanks, Dave! We've loved having you with us too!
Fantastic experience: The KOPD program is such a magnificent program for people like me who suffer from Parkinson’s Disease as it provides one of the essential ingredients for combating PD which is high impact interval training in a fun filled yet challenging environment supported by a highly skilled group of professionals - Nate, Kayling, and Tom! The comradery and friendships I have developed are an added bonus!!
Thanks, Eamon! It has been amazing having you in our community.
Fantastic experience: Excellent and professional service by the team who care about their customers
Thanks, James! We do our best!
Fantastic experience: Can’t speak highly enough about this program. Nate, Kaelyn and Tom are incredible and it’s an amazing community. As a carer I see the coaches go above and beyond to give the best training, personal attention and support. There is an WhatsApp group, we have coffee every Monday after training and we always have a laugh as Nate loves to joke around what I find great as it’s not a walk in the park having Parkinson’s. The lady I care for is doing things she wouldn’t be able to do if it wasn’t for this program.
Thanks for the amazing review, Cecilia! We love seeing how much you care for your client every week. You both add so much to our community.
Fantastic experience: Kaelyn and Nate have been great assistance for the past few years for Henry! I highly recommend this wonderful program for anyone suffering from Parkinson’s !
Thanks, Nikky! We love working with Henry (and you!)
Fantastic experience: The team at KOPD are assisting those with Parkinson’s achieve amazing things that I did not think they would be able to achieve. The team leader (Nate) has created a thriving supportive community, that enables people with Parkinson’s to maximise their potential and empower them as much as possible, with a condition where many feel disempowered.
Thanks for the amazing review, Dean!
Fantastic experience: It's easy to use the term "transformational" glibly. But Nate and the team really earn that term for helping people with Parkinson's to transform themselves physically and mentally. The exercise classes are engaging and push you to develop new skills (and muscles that you didn't think you had). A wonderful environment and fun to be part of.
Thanks for the great review, David! I especially love the use of the word glibly.
Fantastic experience: As a Parkinson’s Disease sufferer I have found KOPD to be a major benefit in my rehabilitation program. Due to the work of Nate, Kaelyn and the team I’m much more positive and actually improving fitness and many of the PD measures. Working with others who also have PD has also improved my confidence and general morale. Highly recommended. John
Thanks for the review, John! We love seeing how hard you push every week.
Fantastic experience: I'm Soooo happy that we found KOPD! My mum has Parkinson and joined the team this March. Within 2 months, I've noticed my mum has more energy, less tired, and become bubbly (like before). Compared the initial assessment with the latest one, there is obvious improvement in almost all aspects!!! Even that she can't speak English, Coach Nate and all other great coaches within the big team, are all very patient with her, explaining the exercise/movements in different ways so that she can keep up with others. One day when she finished, she told me, with a big smile on her face, that she hasn't had sweat this much for years! And last but not least, all the members here are fighters, great friends of each other's - supporting each other always! Can't recommend more!
Thanks so much for the amazing review, Dana! You and your mum are such a boost for our community and we love seeing you each week!
Fantastic experience: KOPD is a great program with amazing coaches who have a depth of knowledge of Parkinson’s disease and dedication to providing tailored exercises for Parkinson’s patients ensuring that each person feels supported and motivated throughout the program
Fantastic experience: Great program helping people with Parkinsons that is unlike anything else in the country, I have seen the benefits and trained with some of the students and Instructors and they all have a infectious positive attitude towards this disease and how to approach it.
Fantastic experience: Nate runs a tight ship! If you or someone you know with Parkinson's wants to get moving and learn some Boxing, Muai Thai or BJJ skills while improving on your strength, fitness and movement goals, KOPD is the place to go!

Fantastic experience: I started at KOPD Chatswood in November 2020. Within weeks I could feel the benefits with my balance, fitness and strength. Nat and Davon are great, they push me hard but in a good way. After the session, I go home so exhausted but very happy knowing I gave it no my all. My wife has also noticed the difference. I sleep a lot better now, walk a lot further and faster as well as having so much more energy.
Thanks, Wayne! You have contributed so much to our community and we will always love you. Look forward to seeing you soon!
