Evolve Fitness and Pole

Fantastic experience: I started at Evolve 8 months ago and became addicted. My teenage daughter also does silks class here and loves it. The dance classes are very enjoyable. It can take time to build the strength to progress with pole and so dancing in the meantime helps with this and building confidence and “flow”. Pole is very challenging, but it is so worth it. It is also quite social and the other students have been really friendly and supportive. Dancing at Evolve has been life changing for me. Big thanks to the teachers, you work so hard and you always impress me. I am thankful to have this safe space to express myself, get fit and have fun.

Fantastic experience: I have been a member at the studio on and off over the past couple of years. The instructors have always been incredibly constructive and kind resulting in speedy progress and in my belief Maria the owner is an absolute master of the craft representing the soul of pole. I can’t find this experience matched anywhere else. Definitely recommend!

Fantastic experience: I started pole fitness in 2020 because it was my birthday and because it was something I had wanted to try for a long time before that. I stayed because I fell in love with the sport and the Evolve studio - I now basically live there and cannot recommend it enough. It is a super welcoming and beginner friendly studio with a variety of classes on offer.

Negative experience: I’d like to preface that this review is not intended to be defamatory or condescending, however it is my honest experience as a former full-time student for over a year and a half. After leaving in December 2023, I felt it was important to share my perspective, hoping it might shed light on some issues faced by students and instructors alike. Joining Evolve in early 2022, I was excited to dance and express myself. The studio was initially welcoming, and I built strong rapport with many students and some instructors, which has continued to present day. However, over time, attending Evolve became increasingly uncomfortable, and this discomfort gradually led to a mass departure of students in December 2023, myself included. Students at Evolve are made to pay to perform at their own performance nights. The studio owner was only present for 1/3 performance nights I attended, and event organisation was left entirely to the instructors. Instructors are not paid for this time, but are mandated to attend. Unfortunately, studio cleanliness was consistently lacking. Scuff marks, hair, and debris littered the floors, while mirrors needed cleaning. Dust bunnies existed behind fans, and the bathroom had a persistent drain odour. I would come away from each class with dirty feet and palms. Despite complaints to instructors, this situation remained unaddressed until January 2024. The Evolve page then posted a video showing the studio being professionally cleaned, finally. To improve the studio offering, I, along with another student, donated dance chairs due to the owner's apparent unwillingness to invest in suitable and safe apparatus for students to utilise. I was further upset with the handling of my Hens/Bachelorette pole party in November 2023. Despite paying $550, I was expected, alongside the instructor teaching the event, to clean the studio, including vacuuming, cleaning mirrors, dusting, and organising equipment, tables etc. The instructor was not paid for this cleaning time. I even felt compelled to purchase my own air freshener for the bathroom due to the smell. The owner remained uninvolved and only addressed the event at the last minute after I initiated contact, stating they required upfront payment. No other communication came from the owner, not even a ‘congratulations’ or message of thanks. Such poor communication was unacceptable for a premium-priced event, and this situation left me feeling completely undervalued as a loyal client. The final straw came at the end of December 2023, the studio owner announced a 36% price increase for memberships without communicating any accompanying improvements or amenities. Though the owner later reversed this decision after a competitor opened nearby, the initial action raised concerns about value and transparency. During my time at Evolve I recruited several friends to join the studio, safe to say we all won’t be returning. While Evolve offered some positive experiences, the recurrent negative aspects ultimately prompted me to seek out other options in North Brisbane that delivered a superior experience. Evolve still continues to use my images for marketing material. They have even deleted my comment on an Instagram reel containing my photo, where I explicitly asked them to remove that image from their page. I reiterate that this review is based solely on my personal experience and is not intended to be defamatory. I wish Evolve all the best, and trust this feedback will be used positively to improve the experience for current students.

Fantastic experience: Very supportive studio! Maria is an amazing choreographer and inspiring instructor! I have been having privates with Maria for competition preparation last year and again this year, her teaching really elevated my level of skill and confidence.

Fantastic experience: Highly recommend Evolve! I’ve now tried a lot of the different classes available to students and all the instructors have been fantastic. They are welcoming, supportive and encouraging as well as knowing when to push you to achieve more. I’ve also loved the beginner pole courses with Marlee, her classes have been awesome. They are well structured with a clear plan on how to build up skills. Importantly she always explains the “why” we do things, to ensure we have a strong understanding of the foundations. Excited for more classes, Thank you!

Positive experience: Joining Evolve was absolutely one of best choices iv made. Iv been here for a while now and iv grown strength, confidence and amazing friendships ! Would 100% recommend to anyone who asks ☺️

Fantastic experience: Evolve has changed my life! I'm gaining confidence, strength, flexibility, fluidity in my moves & is the highlight of my days. I started going once a week and 1.5months in I'm doing 5 days a week I love it that much! The staff and other dancers are super friendly, approachable, very supportive and understanding. I love that judgements are left at the door and the empowering vibe this place has. Every instructor brings something different and unique. I could not recommend Evolve more!! You won't regret joining our tribe!

Fantastic experience: I ticked 5 stars for this studio because it is exactly that. The heart of the studio is rich and driven by Marias passion, creativity, highly developed skills, clever instructing, strength and dedication. This is what inspired me do things I thought I couldnt do. Whatever your level is you will be taken from that and it will be developed- this is what makes the studio special and worthwhile. Here you will be inspired to perform, improve, practise and learn in a safe and professional environment. Maria and all instructors truly care about and know each student personally xoxo lovely x
