Negative experience: so i was using a chest press machine and the stupid workers came up to me and started harassing me telling me to put my weight back on the weight racks when they were on the weight racks on the machine and they came up to me and my friend and told us to put the weight away like they don’t have legs or arms to walk over and put it back themselfs because they work there

Negative experience: Beware: Shady Billing Practices & Predatory Tactics I feel compelled to warn others about my experience with EMF Fitness Centre Kotara, which I believe reflects seriously unethical and borderline predatory business behavior. I submitted a formal request to cancel my non-contract membership on May 7, as I had left the country and could no longer use the gym. Instead of processing my request, EMF delayed their response, and then — knowing full well I had already asked to cancel — went ahead and attempted to charge me anyway. When the payment failed (unsurprisingly, since I’m overseas), they blocked me from cancelling, demanded I pay for a service I didn’t use, and are now pursuing me for a dishonored fee. This is not a misunderstanding — it’s a system designed to trap members into paying after they’ve tried to leave. Their response was not to acknowledge their error, but to use it as an excuse to hold my membership hostage until I pay up. This practice is unfair, deceptive, and completely unacceptable, especially for a “no contract” membership. If you ever plan to travel, move, or cancel, good luck — you’ll be stuck in a web of intentionally obstructive and exploitative policies. I have raised the matter with consumer protection authorities and encourage others who have faced similar issues to do the same. Until EMF takes accountability and overhauls these shady tactics, I strongly recommend avoiding them.

Fantastic experience: BEST GYM AND STAFF EVER!!!!! I’ve been to many gyms in the Newcastle region and EMF Kotara is literally the best one by far! The staff are so welcoming and friendly! The culture at the gym is superior to all, which is easily a testament to the manager - Tamara!
Fantastic experience: Definitely the best gym in Newcastle I've tried numerous gyms in the area and this is by far the best. Chest and leg day are my favourite as they have awesome machines other gyms dont normally have. The staff are super friendly. I love getting my hulk smoothie after an awesome session.
Fantastic experience: EMF Kotara is one of the best gyms I have trained at. Staff are amazing, in particular Jarrod and Jordon, who go above and beyond to assist in any way. Super clean, always well stocked with drinks and supplements and staff always friendly and helpful
Negative experience: The last guy Ethan? Was making me a shake after my workout & I appreciate convenience being a buisness owner. I’ve had a diff guy lately who seems to never want to make me a shake .? Says it’s not possible.. He’s said no 3 times so I’ve decided not to come back
Negative experience: Horrible gym, very dirty. Lazy and rude staff. Tammy or whatever the managers name is, is awful. I do not recommend this gym at all.
Negative experience: Worst gym I have ever been involved with. Have cancelled my membership about 3 months ago payed all my fees two weeks notice plus cancellation fees. Yet still getting payments taken out of my account I have tried to talk to the very bad staff but they have no idea what’s going on and say that the billing company is another company and there’s nothing they can do but cannot give me the information of the “billing company”. Absolute scam wouldn’t recommend this facility to anyone stay far away
Negative experience: Now, look at it clearly and accurately. In the first place, your employee explained that he was very aware of leaving the exercise to the child, and registered. He said he could not give the customer a very unkind refund without acknowledging or apologizing for their mistake. I understand that the registration fee is non-refundable, but I haven't started working out yet, and it's really weird why 40 dollars for two weeks' worth of fitness isn't refundable. He treated the customer with such an unkind attitude and said he would extend the time he could leave the child at a kids' cafe. What? You just seemed to want a refund? Isn't it too rude to tell a customer that? What is the rule that at least you don't refund two weeks' worth of exercise money other than 59 dollars for the subscription fee? No way. Think about how you treat them. They weren't nice and said, "Are you going to do it if I extend the hours without apologizing?" Who would want to work out there?

Thanks for your review. As you discussed with our club manager, how ask if there was a problem with using the booking system, and had no answer. We told you we would be happy to extend the time limit for them and asked how long they needed. Again, with no answer to this. It was very clear that you did not want a resolution, just looking to cancel. Which we mentioned would be fine with our 7-day cooling off period but joining fees can not be refunded as per the agreement. We do apologise for any confusion and inconvenience.Please let me know if you have any questions at all, we'd be happy to assist further.

Negative experience: My PT was openly perving on other clients/women at the gym during our sessions & outside of our sessions. Customer service is email only, even the staff in the centre can only email head office/higher ups. They were incredibly rude, lack empathy & condescending. I wanted to enjoy EMF but after everything I warn everybody I can about them, really disappointing. Would recommend other gyms in the area. Edit because I can’t respond: I am no longer a member due to the behaviours above but I used to attend EMF at Kotara

Negative experience: Was a regular patron at this gym since it’s opening. Unfortunately like many other gyms, with time, things became neglected. In particular the bathroom cleanliness and upkeep was one of my main concerns. It’s in my belief a gym as busy as Emf really should have a cleaner in to bleach and clean the toilets and showers several times a day. I’ve seen non-commercial gyms pull this off and have it sparkling at all times. Other contributors to my change: -Limited fans in the cardio sections -out of order equipment for long periods of time -some machines not functioning properly (hip abductor out of alignment, one of the cable lat pull down machines lock in pad is being held in place with a resistance band, one of the hip thrust machines pad is out of alignment or bent) -repeated strong man competitions and overall lack of variety on tvs, particularly in the cardio area, (maybe some other sports from time to time would be nice). American gyms have multiple tvs with multiple different sports on at once. Yes I’m there to workout, but it’s the attention to detail at this gym that lost me unfortunately. -cardio section quite small and not an open layout. -Treadmils in peak hours are often always occupied and having only the single entrance to access them isn’t ideal. -Cardio machines are often dirty with dust all over them. The feather duster used by gym staff could be replaced with a good old spray and wipe (I always spray and wipe my machine after use, including the platform sides and front of treadmil, there’s always dirt and grime). -choice of water fountain used is outdated with the bubbler part not actually working well enough to use as a bubbler. Yes I bring a drink bottle, but again it’s the attention to detail. -limited stretching area, especially in peak hour. I was quite sad to see this gym go the way it has I must admit. Staff are always friendly and greet you on arrival, and the protein shake bar is also a nice touch. But still not enough to keep me there for the price. I’ve changed to the new anytime fitness at mayfield west which is better value for money at the moment in my opinion. I write this review as a passionate gym enthusiast with good intentions.

Negative experience: + + + Equipment fantastic - - Cleanliness not up to scratch - - Always too hot, even in winter. - - Overrun with teenagers in the afternoon - - Very loud, obtrusive music. So loud cannot hear my own music. Staff advised they could had to play music loud during peak times. Absolutely ridiculous given 90% of people are trying tolisten to their own music.

Negative experience: Employees here are very unhelpful. I attended the gym at 12:45pm with my partner, after observing the opening times were until 1pm. When we arrived, we were told that the tills shut 30 mins prior, at 12:30pm, and we were unable to gain access using our fitness passports. No where online did it advertise this 30 minute rule. If we had have known, we would not have rushed there. Very annoying and unhelpful.

Negative experience: Saraya a worker who is there on Wednesday afternoons was extremely rude. They were not accommodating to young girls and made them extremely uncomfortable with the unfriendly hostile attitude. She called for a “check up” which was really her asking how it was and not liking what we said when we told her that the workers were extremely rude she exclaimed that we were wrong and that it was a miscommunication on our part. Will not be coming back and letting people know that if you are a teenager to not come unless you want to experience a hostile environment with rude staff, would not even give a star if I could

Fantastic experience: Love it here! The platinum classes are wonderful and so many good times to go. Thank you to Gemma in the creche for keeping the kiddies occupied while parents have some much needed "me time". Yoga instructor was brilliant. Love him!
