Fantastic experience: I’ve been training at Companhia Paulista and from the very first day I felt welcomed — not only by head coach Carlos and the coaches, but also by the other training partners. It’s an environment where respect, support, and technical development truly go hand in hand. Whether you're starting or looking to refine your skills, it’s a place where you can grow with confidence. Highly recommended.
Fantastic experience: What an amazing experience it is to train with these guys ! Honestly what builds a club is the culture and more to the point of the Coach ! Carlos Vieira “ Português” his achievements are contagious throughout his students and he walks the talk … Very Beginner friendly club with absolutely NO EGO ! My son and I love going training here and we suggest your AT LEAST give them a try ! You won’t regret it!

Fantastic experience: Great team with an excellent coach and teammates. Coach Carlos is one of the best BJJ coaches in Australia, and shows a high level of BJJ techniques. I would highly recommend this place if you wanna enjoy your jiu-jitsu journey more.

Fantastic experience: My kids have recently joined CIA and the experience has been nothing short of amazing. The instructors are not only skilled in their craft but also incredibly patient with the kids. The classes strike a perfect balance between fun and learning, fostering discipline and confidence. I'm impressed with the positive impact it's had on my children's physical fitness and self-esteem. Highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: Carlos "Português" Viera leads an outstanding club alongside all his fellow black belts instructors. As a remarkable Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Coach and devoted family man, he instills these values on the mat, making everyone feel like part of his extended family. His encouragement to strive for excellence is constant, and his continuous encouragement is forever motivating. After five years of training here, the club remains impeccably clean, the friendship among students is unwavering, and the bond formed is immediate. And honestly, what better teacher to have than an actual Brazilian instructor, born and raised in Brazil, teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in your own hometown of Melbourne; this is truly invaluable! Obrigada Coach! Ossss!

Negative experience: This club is an awful place. They are all about money and they treat participants as cash cows, at best. They constantly bragged about the "family atmosphere" of the club, but after more than one year of training Carlos, the founder of the club, still couldn't remember my name. The training is subpar. Some of the Brazilian coaches spoke English so poorly that it was impossible to understand the most basic of instructions. Attendees who didn't participate in competitions and didn't bring medals to the club were treated with contempt. I strongly recommend against joining this club.
Hi Marc, as a small business owner it is very hard to read such a review and even more so from a name that is unrecognisable to us.
Without a doubt we are a family business and pride ourselves on creating a family environment, thus the reason for having so many different families as part of our club.
Some of our coaches are Brazilians and English is their second language which does not impact on their instructions and teaching Jiu Jitsu can be taught by example.
We are unsure of what you are referring to as us being cash cows as we charge only monthly fees the same as any other business. Before signing up we give all prospective students our options of memberships and the student chooses what option they prefer. Other than that there is no additional fees.
Most of our students don’t compete and we don’t expect them to at all, we completely understand and support that everyone comes into the club to train for different reasons, the team logo itself makes it very clear of this and we are very welcoming of this.
We love to celebrate all different achievements within the club, whether this is an achievement from a competition or not, this is why we round multiple events throughout the year to support everyone.
When we do ask people to bring in their medals after competitions to take a team photo to commemorate their success we do this to commemorate as a team, thus the reason why our photos clearly shows the whole team within the photos. We do this as one athlete winning a medal is a team effort, not just the individual, if the athlete didn’t have the team support behind them, then how would they be able to train? We also make sure that those who are training for competition are paired up accordingly to make everyone feel comfortable to train at their own pace.
We are a very approachable business and have always listened and made changes accordingly to create a welcoming environment for those who want to learn.
Fantastic experience: Português is a world class of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, beautiful and clean academy, everyone is very welcome, i highly recommended his school .

Fantastic experience: Carlos is a legend. Chris is a great black belt instructor. This is a high level gym, but still open and supportive to beginners. We are family here.
