Fantastic experience: Great gym to train at. Clean and tidy, layout done really well. Lots of equipment and heavy dumbbells. Great amenities and vending machines. Owners very welcoming and friendly. Positive atmosphere and great people

Negative experience: Avoid like the plague. Took money for swim lessons and constantly lied to avoid refunds when they couldn’t provide the service. Went to Fair Trading to get a full refund I encourage others to do the same Jamie is just a politician without any actual business sense. Business will easily close in a year.

Negative experience: New owners are running this place into the ground unfortunately. Hiring people off the gym floor to be customer service with zero people skills. To emailing parents of swim lessons promising things without even consulting with the swim teachers? Untrained staff in the pools too, not even supposed to be there? Sad to see it go down like this!

Fantastic experience: I’ve been at Phoenix Strength & Recovery (Previously Fitness Focus) for about nine years now, and I’ve seen the gym go through a lot of change. Since the new owners took over, the place has completely lifted its game. The culture feels so much more positive and welcoming whether you’re brand new or someone who’s been training for years. If you’ve ever been nervous about joining a gym or unsure where to begin, this really is the perfect place to start. The gym itself is a great size with plenty of space and equipment, and the people (both staff and members) are honestly some of the nicest you’ll meet. Phoenix Strength & Recovery has become a community where everyone can feel comfortable and supported. Couldn’t recommend it more.

Fantastic experience: LOVE LOVE LOVE this gym. Ash and Jamie have created a very welcoming and comfortable place for all fitness levels to train. There is always a friendly face at reception, and everyone is keen for a chat. My kids love the crèche, I know they’re being well looked after, and now that the crèche is open Mon-Fri, I don’t need to train anywhere else. So excited for all the new changes still to come!

Fantastic experience: This place is not just a gym, it truly is a community, a place to become stronger - not only physically but mentally and emotionally as well. This place has become a sanctuary for my mental health. I have spent years hating myself and my body, punishing it and depriving it of the things it needs to be healthy. I’ve yoyoed with my weight and have never stuck at anything since I started gaining weight years ago through unhealthy habits as a way to cope with trauma and stress. I honestly never thought - and in fact proclaimed for anyone to hear that I would “Never be a gym girl.” It’s not just the amazing results physically and on paper that I have achieved, both in my body and my actual internal and physical health since starting here not long after Ash and Jamie took over, it’s the massive change in my mental health. When I walk in through those doors, i immediately feel safe and comfortable, i feel like i belong and i’m welcome. The people who work here and the people who train here are such a great group of humans. There is never any judgement or side looks, no one taps their foot while waiting for a machine, in fact, I have yet to come across a person who isn’t happy to help out or work around you and probably the biggest for me, I have yet to come across someone staring at me or laughing or making me feel uncomfortable. This place is a safe place, Jamie and Ash have done and are continuing to do something I have personally not experienced before in a gym in Dubbo (and I’ve been to a few) they have created a community, a safe space, a place of fun and encouragement, a refuge to all the stress and worry outside those doors, and they have encouraged a culture of celebrating everyone’s wins, of encouraging everyone, no matter what stage they’re at and a culture of striving for more, pushing yourself, conquering fears, smashing challenges and PBs and ultimately learning to love yourself a little more everyday you show up for yourself. This is the place that changed my life, this is the place I show up for myself and this is the place where you have Ash and Jamie (The owners) show up for you even harder on your tough days. This is the place I became a gym girl! I have never met gym owners more committed to their clientele, who not only want the wins for them, but cheer louder and harder than anyone else for those wins. Phoenix Strength and Recovery is not just a gym, it’s a safe place, it’s a community and if you want to start your journey to becoming a happier healthier you, where you’re not only supported and encouraged but motivated and celebrated, it’s where you belong.

Fantastic experience: LOVE THIS GYM! The community and staff are all so friendly, the gym is always very clean and maintained well, they’re also in the process of a recovery section! I gym here everyday, and my daughter has had 3 terms of swimming lessons here! The crèche is open 4pm-7pm week days, which is Very convenient for us parents with kids!

Fantastic experience: I love this gym! The training I did here has helped me with so many of my proudest achievements and sketchiest adventures. The facilities, staff and vibe are great, it really feels like a home away from home. I strongly recommend choosing this place over any of the franchises Bonus points: I've done a bunch of super weird mountaineering conditioning here and nobody has ever batted an eye

Fantastic experience: The Staff at Phoenix is truly one of the best, from friendly and smiling to helpful in the right ways. They have helped me improve myself not just for myself but for my son as well. I love the fact I can workout and know that my sons being looked after by the best in their creche room. The heated pool is perfect for them relaxing moments after a workout or even just for a swim. My son has learnt to swim because of the team and I am forever great full for it.

Fantastic experience: The gym is always clean. And it might seem like a little thing, but, the ladies change room/toilets are stocked with complimentary feminine essentials: hair bands, deodorant, band aids, female products. The hair bands have saved my workout on more than one occasion!

Fantastic experience: The team at pheonix is one of the best around supportive in every way mentally and pysically 100% there gym is always clean and the staff are welcoming my son uses there creche and the staff are extreamly profesional and great with kids there swim school is great the pool is heated and the teachers are very patient. Plus the pool is very relaxing after a workout

Connor, who works in the mornings, is fantastic company—he always checks in and takes the time for a friendly chat, which makes training even more enjoyable. 5 out of 5 stars, highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: Great gym, the facilities to suit all levels of fitness from beginner to advanced are second to none. Came to Dubbo for a few days and chose this gym. Jamie was so welcoming so thank you guys. Great fitness facility.

Negative experience: Dress policy is stuck in the 1950s. Have posters of women in crop tops all around but won't allow you to wear one. If they were really worried about kids being exposed to crop tops why would they have those posters? Why would they have a pole dancing class upstairs? Sounds backwards to me.

Negative experience: Edit: After spending a few sessions in the gym I feel 1 star is unfair toward the staff who clearly work hard to work within their budget. I'm changing it to 2 stars and hopefully we can get a better pool timetable which I would then up it again. Personal training is affordable and actually high quality. Original review still stands: Although lovely staff. I've found this gym to be the worst in Dubbo. Weights areas are okay, but cardio machines (treadmills, bikes, stairs) are all out dated and thrashed, Despite being slightly more expensive then the other local 24/7 options. If you only want a gym for weights their are much more conveniently located facilities Misleading advertisements on the website led me to believe I would be able to use hydrotherapy pool during staffed hours but paying members are actually limited to the most inconvenient time slots (8am to 9.30am and 12pm to 1pm)which is literally unworkable for anyone who has a kid or is employed (or actually wants to use it for recovery) , this WAS a huge selling point for me choosing this gym and I am left completely disappointed. Staff have been found to be helpful and kind but unfortunately that's not why someone goes to a gym. The whole facility looks like someone built it with a dream of being the best gym which makes it even more disappointing that ANY other gym in town is a better option for the majority of people. AVOID if your focus is cardio or hydrotherapy. AND for free/assisted weights, there is better, closer to home.

Fantastic experience: Visited Dubbo and stopped in for a casual visit and session. Excellent facilities and very reasonable casual price. Excellent powerlifting and bodybuilding facilities

Negative experience: Really poor gym. Classes are very inconsistent, no fresh water station and the management was quite rude. Telling young girls to cover up thier body so that other people feel better about themselves is really inappropriate. I won’t be going back. They used to be a lot better but they’ve let themselves go. Less than 1 star from me
