While nervous at first, Tom and the team are so supportive and are there to help you achieve your goals and ambitions! Come to a class, you’ll have a great time and meet some fantastic people!

Fantastic experience: I love this gym and the community it is building. I came to an open day and found everyone to be so welcoming that I bought a class pack. I love the variety of exercise compared to a regular gym. I appreciate how much effort the teachers go to to make classes accessible to different levels. Praksis classes are set up to encourage hard work where you’re at, so while there are some incredibly strong and fit people, it doesn’t feel elitist. Although it’s a class format, it feels very personalised, with a good pace of progression. There is also an emphasis on mindset and personal growth, which means the community of people you attend classes with self-select for good vibes and genuinely supporting each other to safely push your own physical limits of possibility. Strongly recommend trying it out.

Fantastic experience: I came into Praksis for a work event , Tom was great at facilitating our group and made it a fun and challenging experience for the whole team. I would definitely recommend Praksis for a work event or if you just want to try a new form of exercise and movement.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely loved the studio; Tom and the team have done an exceptional job at creating an inviting and inspiring space that really feels like you're stepping out of the bustle of the city, and into another world. I really liked the communal chalkboard and celebrating people's wins; encouragement and support feel like core elements to the gyms philosophy. I went in for handstands and movement practice. Tom.S was wonderful! He was extremely welcoming from the get-go, and so attentive ... he provided a challeging and insightful time with the classes and I'll definitely be coming back for more
Fantastic experience: This is my favourite gym in Canberra, if you want a more practical and real style of fitness I definitely recommend to come here. The instructors are top tier and each have unique approaches to their classes (which there is a broad variety of) so you can find who you click with. I have only been coming for a few weeks and already I know I will continue to come for as long as I can. Thanks Praksis, you guys are epic!!

Fantastic experience: Breaking the silence the clock chimes six, the pendulum strangely off kilter - each tick slightly too close to its tok, and each pair just a hair too far apart. Tick...tock I lower myself to the floor, my core activating as I fight off the impending cramps. This time I'll get it. Starting at my feet I stretch, reaching, searching. A familiar feeling. Tick...tock My partner looms above, hands akimbo. Then, like a conductor, the hands raise - poised for the music that does not come. Tick..tock The hands gesture and a heartbeat later I move. They circle left, and my body strains, fighting the ground. My head leads the movement but my feet are anchored. Carefully, I raise one foot balancing on three. Careful not to break the game. I don't want to break the game. Tick.tock Right their hands circle and the target follows, quick as a rabbit. My body adjusts, my right leg returns and my left leaves, this time taking my right forelimb with it. Not against the rules, not quite, to stretch with it. My target is still just out of reach, aloft, bouncing, cloyingly close. I salivate. I can almost taste it. Tick-tock Once it lands, in rhythm with the clock. My eyes follow, my body stretching, tight as a bow string. So close. So close, but not quite there. Why is it so far, what cruel game is this? Ticktock I lunge, batting at my foe. As if to mock me it swings away, wildly. I snap - my form gone, posture broken. Still on the ground I look at my tormenter, then up into my partner's eyes. There's no malice there, just pity.

Fantastic experience: I bloody LOVE going to Praksis. I frequented other gyms for a good while and enjoyed the HIIT workouts and random strength workouts, I even saw some good results and felt better about myself. I then started thinking ‘what else?’ So I started looking at other methods of training and stumbled on gymnastics strength training; a lot of it made sense so I tried to translate that into my standard gym routines but I wasn’t convinced I was getting anywhere with it. Sure, it was fun but it was mostly a solo endeavour which wasn’t as motivating for me. I googled gymnastics Canberra and stumbled on Praksis. They happened to be having an open day so I thought I’d give it a try… it was really fun and different yet challenging; like working out but not really. The open day was fun but I still thought my normal gym was what I needed. High intensity meant results, right!? I kept going to my normal gym but something in me was intrigued, maybe I’m wrong, maybe I’m putting all this effort into things which aren’t important! I went to another open day and then signed up for the causal pass. From that point on I knew this was for me. Not only was I getting stronger but I was having a blast with all the novel ways of moving. I couldn’t get enough of it! I HIGHLY recommend giving Praksis a go, you’ll have fun, make friends and feel stronger and more mobile. It’s unreal!

Fantastic experience: If you are looking for a community, Praksis is your place. If you are looking for playfulness, feeling good in your body, to face your fears, have fun and just feel good about life, Praksis is your place. I had followed the studio for about 1.5 years before going to their open day and I could kick myself for waiting that long. Not only do you get to move your body and connect with a wonderful bunch of people (both teachers and other students are amazing) but you also learn a whole lot about yourself and every now and then, the teachers also drop an extra nugget of wisdom that you can apply to all areas of life. Praksis has been a place of happiness for me ever since I joined. They take amazing care of you no matter what stage you are at or how “fit” you are. There is a place and a welcoming smile for everyone here. I can really REALLY recommend you give it a go.

I attended an open day at Praksis and signed up the same day. I’ve been wholly impressed by the different approach / philosophy, the quality of the instruction and the friendliness and inclusiveness of the group. Fantastic experience: If you are looking for a gym with a lot of weights, machines and loud grunting weight throwing peeps, this is not the place to come. However, if you are looking for moving and strengthening your body to its full potential, moving in a way it’s designed to move, but most importantly to be surrounded by teachers and people who really want to see you improve and get better, this is the place to come. Come for movement, stay for the community.
Fantastic experience: Since signing up to Praksis back in 2020, my entire world has turned around. It does sound dramatic, but it's amazing what a positive and supportive community can do for your health and well-being. Since joining I've had lots of ups and downs and whenever I needed a break the team was always welcoming when I returned! I'm now tracking towards my best health since 2016 and true to their mission statement they have definitely improved my experience of being in a body. I went from waking up in pain, stiff, and unable to move almost every day, to being one of the most active members of my personal community (friends and family both). Always challenging, but never degrading to anyone. This is the sort of establishment where you and your ability is not compared to others, your personal growth is what matters and your wins are celebrated by everyone. I look forward to continuing my practice with them and being a part of the community into 2022 and beyond!
Fantastic experience: The Praksis teachers are all amazing! The classes are enjoyable, worthwhile and different to any sort of fitness stuff I have done in the past. Praksis has a really nice community feel about it and is a positive environment to train in. If you're interested in the movement practice style of training (or have never heard of it but want to do something different) then I highly recommend giving Praksis a go. They even have handstand classes! Super fun and very well structured and doable no matter your age or where you are starting from.

Fantastic experience: Praksis is an unconventional gym. It's a "movement studio" with the aim to "improve your experience of being in a body", which I think is an accurate description. I've trained with Tom (the founder) and Soici on and off for the last few years. I've learned a lot about the capabilities and limits of my body, and improved my strength and mobility under their guidance. Praksis focuses on holistic health, strength, and longevity. Training is a good blend of order, freedom, strength, and mobiliy. Tom and Soici are highly skilled and accomplished practitioners, excellent teachers, and good people. If you want to improve your experience of being in a body, I couldn't suggest a better place to learn and practice.
Fantastic experience: Praksis seems like the sort of place that could either be intimidating for beginners or too niche for the general population, but this couldn't be further from the truth. Members and staff are welcoming and inclusive, the studio culture is one of fun and positivity, and the body weight exercises are rigorously programmed and methodically taught.
Fantastic experience: I have trained at a lot of gyms over the years, Praksis is my favourite. I really wish I started my training as a youngster at a place like this. It would've prevented many of the injuries that I now battle with. Practicing what the very knowledgeable instructors teach here has changed my whole outlook on how my body should be operating and therefore how I train in general. I now have less injuries and am confident that if I keep practicing here, one day I'll be injury free. I highly recommend this place, as I have to many of my friends and family over the last few years.

Fantastic experience: Highly recommended! Praksis restored my movement after a lingering back injury after regular gyms and Physios failed. Soisci runs a fun community focused class promoting movement and flexibility, something we all need at any age.

Fantastic experience: Excellent gym with a great community and teachers. Very welcoming and beginner friendly with many options to cater to any skill level or age. Edit after several years of doing remote practitioner program: Excellent studio offering tailored fitness and health (incl remote/ follow-along video program which I have been doing for several years, which also includes regular personalised feedback). Extremely knowledge and passionate about helping you. Suitable if you are just starting your fitness/health journey and also for more experienced practitioners/students, and in-between. The teaching and program have vastly improved my health and knowledge - I no longer have body, back, hip and shoulder aches and pains. It is not yoga, gymnastics or capoeira etc but a mix of all movement elements tailored to you and your goals - I have learned so much and many aspects of movement culture and health such as: handstands, flexibility, gymnastics rings, body weight, relaxation, meditation, locomotion and movement, breathwork, balance, elasticity, spinal mobility and fluidity. I highly recommend Praksis with their exceptional teachers and community!

Fantastic experience: An amazing and well thought out alternative to regular gyms where you focus completely on you. You work at your own pace, the focus is on movement but in a much more individual way. I would call it mindful movement. The gym has a distinct new age vibe and with a supportive community it is great for ALL age groups. I highly recommend this gym.

Fantastic experience: My wife and I started the Longevity classes online 5 months ago and we love it. It's re introduced us to movements that we had as children. And these things at our age (61) we feel amazing and look forward to every class. We also drove 6 hours from home to come to Praksis studio to do the classes live. Tom & Soisci are amazing teachers, they make the classes fun and they are very professional and knowledgeable.

Fantastic experience: Praksis has been an incredibly welcoming and friendly space - especially in my context of coming back to exercise post pregnancy. I love the handstand classes, and have also got a lot out of the upper body and movement classes. I only wish I could fit more classes in around my toddler!

Fantastic experience: Sweet little movement studio tucked away in Phillip industrial area, where a small but growing group of regular folks and dedicated movement nerds practice monkeying around under the excellent instruction of Mr Thomas Emerson and his team of coaches! It's all very nice, and top-notch intelligent training, suitable for anyone from an elite athlete to a tired and sore 50 year old public servant.
