Negative experience: I’ve been a member of Genesis Health and Fitness for about 2.5 years. I initially joined because of the gym’s size and facilities—despite it being significantly more expensive than other options, I was happy to pay for the quality. However, their payment and refund systems are beyond frustrating and honestly quite pathetic. Recently, I called to pause my membership after already missing a month and knowing I wouldn’t be able to attend for at least two more weeks. I was told it would take THREE FULL DAYS to process the suspension, during which they can’t stop the auto-debit, and the deduction would cover an ENTIRE WEEK. So even if you request a pause first thing Monday morning, they’ll say the payment process has already started—even if nothing has been charged yet—and that you’ll still be billed for the whole week. To make things worse, resuming your membership also requires three days advance notice. You can’t just tap your tag at the gym and resume your sessions—everything is delayed and overly manual. Even during suspension, they still charge you $5 per week, this is for a membership with a lock-in contract! To add more, if your auto debit doesn’t go through for some reason, you are charged $14.95 additional if you are on $16.95/week membership, even if you pay the same day, which is insane. After being a loyal member for over two years, it’s extremely disappointing to be treated with such disregard. The front desk staff rarely seem willing or able to help—they’re clearly not trained to answer more complex questions. And there’s no way to speak directly with someone who actually has the authority to address or improve these flawed systems. I once emailed an address listed on their website to raise a similar issue, and it took weeks to get a response back. Overall, the lack of flexibility, transparency, and customer support is deeply disappointing for a gym that charges premium prices. I expected better.

Negative experience: TLDR: Good luck if you want to cancel lmao My mum signed up here on a 1 month membership with my 11yr old brother in early Sep 2024. We used the gym MAYBE 5 times. On 3rd Oct 2024 we went in to cancel and they told us we have to find it online so we went home and asked to cancel our membership on the website. We received a call 10 days later, asking if we wanted to upgrade to a premium membership instead of cancelling. We said no sorry we don't want to go to the gym anymore we want to cancel our membership and we understand we have to pay out the rest of the month. The girl on the phone tried to convince us again but we said no. January 2025 her account is having money go missing. GENESIS IS STILL CHARGING HER? And instead of $19.95pw we were being charged a premium price of $34.99pw! We literally never asked for this. We went in and asked if we could please be refunded whatever was taken out since the 1 month period after we had cancelled. They said we had apparently SIGNED A FORM to upgrade our membership to a 1 year plan so we can't get refunded. My mum and I were in absolute shock because we hadn't even been in the gym since September 2024 and it was now Jan 2025. We were told multiple times we would get a call to talk to someone to resolve this. No one called. The person we had to speak to only works once a week. When we finally got in contact with her she tried to pull every possible option she had to not give us our money back. Why would we have upgraded and then NEVER come back for 4 months right after we just asked to cancel? I had to get my partner to call them to sort this out as he has managed gyms and they were trying to swindle her out of a refund by saying we have no proof we didn't do that. She said she'd give us back $150 out of the ~$220 That was taken out of my mums account and if we want to get the full amount we have to wait another week so they can escalate it to their boss and we might not even get it because the higher ups might just not care at all! Apparently the girl who put through the sale was fired not long after the fraud upgrade was made lmao

Negative experience: I walked into there to wait 40mins and was attended to by someone who had no idea what she was doing. Another disappointment is when trainers look at people like they don't belong in the gym. Please be advice that first impressions matter. In the future do what matters because at this stage as am writing this you are still taking my money

Negative experience: I would give 0 stars if I could. I came and signed up for a membership to start on the 11th November with 1 month free until the 12 December. I was incorrectly told they would be getting a creche by the time the reformers classes started. When I rang to check in October a few days after I signed up I was told they wouldn't be getting one at all and I stated I wanted to cancel the membership. I was told it would be cancelled after the 7 day cooling off period once the membership became active on the 11 November. When I called to check today as emails seeking confirmation had gone unanswered I was told that the membership had not been cancelled and the the cooling off was 7 days after I signed up not 7 days after the membership starts. I explained I had asked to cancel it within the 7 days even if that was the case. Even though Australian consumer law states the period should be 7 days after membership becomes active. I was told someone would call me back immediately but no one did. I want this membership cancelled today or I will be contacting the ombudsman tomorrow afternoon. This membership was sold on a complete fabrication of a service that will not be provided and refusing to cancel it within the 7 days is bad business practice and frankly feels like a scam. Do not sign up here unless you wanted to get scammed into paying 3x as much as other gyms for a service they don't even provide. I refuse to pay $34 a week for classes I can't attend because they never got a creche. Very disappointing that lies were used as selling points and more lies are being used to prevent me from cancelling. I have tried multiple times to get a response in writing or a call back to no avail.

Fantastic experience: Great and friendly gym massive place loads of excisise equipment and friendly staff and has shower and toilet and ever hair driers and a iron to iron ya clothes

Fantastic experience: I went for a free trial session and was quite impressed. Plenty of floor space. Plenty of equipment, including multiple sets of heavier dumbbell weights. Equipment well laid out and good mirror positioning. Clean change rooms. Friendly staff. Other users seemed to have very good gym etiquette, didn't see anybody hogging equipment for ages whilst doom scrolling on their phone, which has become the norm in a lot of places.

Negative experience: This gym is just scam they overcharge money from my account. And without inform they take money to cancel membership. I don’t recommend anyone to join this gym

Negative experience: This gym has gone down hill, BIG TIME. I’ve been coming here since 2011, I’ve seen it improve heaps and then just become trash. I believe it’s under new management and frankly, there has been little to no improvements. Machines are frequently broken, they removed the dumbbells that were over 50+kg. They choose to enforce silly rules instead of crack down of people who train without a shirt on, don’t use a towel etc. You got the male urinal which is broken yet again. Once upon time Genesis used to be good, with frequent new machines every year during Christmas. This is since stopped. All the trainers and staff who used to be here for years all have left, just goes to show you the culture of the current staff and leadership. Don’t recommend at current.

Negative experience: Needs proper air-con as there is no air movement whatsoever and coukd benefit from more thorough cleaning. A lot of the equipment is old & worn out. , hasn't been updated in several years It is very spacious though & easy to get in and out & park.

Negative experience: No air conditioning Equipment broken or falling apart Spoke to staff about these issues and they was and full of excuses.

Positive experience: Recently joined after moving back down from up north and the gym is extremely close to work. Had been a Bentley member prior to my shift north, and loved the gym and people there. Belmont also became my second home for 6 weeks this year when I came down for a work course - staff in all the gyms are friendly and happy to assist my needs. The staff at Kelmscott were extremely welcoming, patient with all my questions and more than happy to assist in signing me up with a membership package that suited my needs. The gym itself is pretty good (25 year veteran so I'm fussy about where I train lol), and so far it's been a nice experience to go and train. There's plenty of equipment and variety for my needs. I definitely recommend the Genesis chain for those wanting an all round gym to train in

Positive experience: Have had to rewrite and re-mark my review as there have been some issues of late. Particularly with billing. The facility itself and the people you meet are great, though.

Positive experience: Enjoy the gym n all but don't appreciate some members going outside in car park in a Friday evening after 9 pm and kicking ball. They should ensure ones safety and your vehicle. Kicking ball for the next hour in the car park is not on...

Negative experience: i have been to this gym for over 2 years now, never had a problem but lately when i come in the young girl with red hair has had a terrible attitude and turns around and ignores me and me friends after we say hello, instead of greeting us as we walk into the gym as they usually do for everyone, had no problems with this girl so there is no explanation for her being so unprofessional, my friend tried to pay for something, and as their card declined she said “come back when you have money” gives this gym a negative unwelcoming vibe now unlike it used to be.

Negative experience: Been going to genesis for years, last 12 months have really gone down hill. Equipment is ageing and the huge influx of school kids is such a bad idea from a risk point of view. Unsupervised kids taking up equipment without moving on, getting in the way, no respect and poor attitudes towards fitness and safety. As genesis aren't the cheapest around anymore I'd suggest shopping around as I will be.

Negative experience: The gym is spacious and has ample equipment and a strong sense of community. I have been with a Genesis member for nearly (or over) ten years, with the last 7 to 8 years with the Kelmscott branch. A few upgrades were done over the period. If you intend to join, I suggest signing up for their weekly contract. I have been paying 12 months in advance and have been offered a new (increased) membership fee every year during renewal. The most recent increase is nearly $150 (2022). Members on weekly contracts are entitled to maintain the same price they initially signed up for ($9.80 per week). The current weekly fee ranges between $14.00 and 20.00. Their customer service may sometimes be hit-and-miss, but you don't need customer service when accessing a 24/7 gym.

Positive experience: [10 months ago] Great gym, has improved a lot since Tim, the new manager has come on board. He has made lots of improvements; fixed things that have needed fixing for ages, got on top of the cleanliness, organised the equipment in a more user friendly way. And get this, even the toilet paper has improved, none of this cheap stuff you put your fingers through for our club! You can tell Tim is invested in the gym, he trains every day, interacts with all the members and is doing his best to improve wherever he can. Well done! An update since my last post 10 months ago. I have downgraded it from 5* to 3* Tim, the Manager moved on about 4 months ago, and we have a new one in place. In the meantime, the maintenance appears to be slipping; - the air con units in the squat area of the gym no longer work, or have been permanently switched off, - the covers on some of the machines are showing major signs of wear, especially the leg extension machine which is now uncomfortable to use, - too many school kids, especially just after 3pm when they get out of school. Also, they regularly leave their bags all over the changing room bench, so there is nowhere to get changed, - there are never enough handles for doing cable crossovers etc, - last but not least, one of the urinals in the men's changing rooms has been cordoned off as 'Out of Action,' for around 6 months now! I have spoken to the new manager about the last point, and she said the same as Tim - that two requests to have it fixed have been passed up the line, but nothing has been done. If you see the 'Out of Order' sign, (picture attached), it would appear that they don't take it seriously! No excuses after 6 months, sorry. Good luck holding on to your new Manager, if you don't back her to get things sorted around the club!

Fantastic experience: I joined up today at the Recommendation from Will from Typhon Supplements. I walked in and Ella greeted me with a great big smile and I had no intention of actually joining today I just wanted to look for now as I already have a membership elsewhere and Ella absolutely convinced me to join then and there with her amazing customer service skills and friendly persona. You're an asset Ella to Genesis Fitness well done. She gave me a through tour of the gym and answered my multitude of questions I sprang on her, the gum itself is well priced and had a great range of classes. First impressions are spacious and good quality equipment and everything seems to be clean which is really important in this day and age. I can't wait to smash out my fitness goals with a new positive and fresh start with this great new gym!

Negative experience: They promise so many things when signing up then don't value you when your a member. Machines are often filthy and out of order. Below standard customer service. It's time to move on

Fantastic experience: It's not my closest gym, but I don't want to be any where else. I feel so comfortable and supported there. The staff are so nice and friendly and it really is a gym for every fitness level. The creche is also amazing and without there help with my clingy child I wouldn't be able to go at all! But he loves it just as much as I do. I highly recommend this gym to everyone.

Negative experience: If you sign up with the classes it’s $50 a week, then when you cancel you have to pay $200 as your final payment. Not convenient when you fall ill from morning sickness and can’t use up that last four weeks‍♀️ When was that mentioned on the sign up? Never!

Fantastic experience: Absolutely friendly and family environment. Everyone has wonderful and different personalities and you can vibe so well with it . Lots of different variety of activities you can do. I loved Zumba and I love dancing . The staff became like a family .

Negative experience: Vicky needs to be more professional. We found her to be very pushy when asking to provide 5 friends to join! When we said we don’t have 5 friends she was a bit rude like “you don’t have 5 friends??? ” Great gym and PTs are great too but service needs much improvement.

It is large and robust, and has all the necessary equipment to really challenge the body. I also really enjoy the relaxed vibe, and the other members are really friendly and encouraging.

Fantastic experience: I have just joined this gym and very surprised just how good this place is, there are plenty of machines, huge warmup/ stretching area, fitness classes, gym cafe, great change room and shower facilities, friendly helpful staff, the whole place is really clean with plenty of sanitizing wipe dispensers. I am using Calvin as a rehab PT and very satisfied with his knowledge of what my body requires, how he explains the exercises in detail and the progress I am making in such a short time. I highly recommend this gym.

Fantastic experience: I have been going to Genesis for 3 years now and it has improved so much. From getting new equipment to installing fans near the cardio (thank you Adam!!!) I enjoy coming in and doing a workout. There are so many awesome classes as well as a whole load of great equipment. Genesis also has a great vibe where you can chat to people but also can get your workout done. Its my happy place.

Fantastic experience: Over the years i have been a member of a couple of gyms but none compare to this one. It is huge inside with every workout machine imaginable on the floor. The equipment and facilities are very clean with plenty of hand sanitiser and anti bacterial wipes available. I have found the staff helpful and friendly without being pushy. The atmosphere is great and there are quite a lot of group classes to choose from. I have started the yoga class which suits all ages and abilities. (I'm 60) I think being a bigger gym means that they are a little less expensive than the others too. There is plentiful free parking which is a necessity. Very happy I joined and wish I could get here more often as I really enjoy working out with my partner.

Fantastic experience: High cleaning standards, good supply of wipes and hand sanitiser. Brilliant, age appropriate classes, with first class instructors. All staff and trainers very welcoming, professional, and competent. Large, airy venue, and great range of equipment.

I have nothing bad to say about Genesis.. the team are great.. the facility caters for all ages.. and a genuine atmosphere where you don't feel you have to compete. They have such a diverse range of activities for all age groups, from using equipment in the gym to group classes which has suited me as I’ve aged!!! Very friendly and helpful staff who DO listen to feedback. Clean and spacious.

Fantastic experience: Felt welcomed from the first day i stepped into the gym. A trainer was quickly provided to me and we were ready to go. Unfortunately due to injury I was held back from utilising the gym on a regular basis but the staff were understanding and membership was put on hold. Darren (PT) checked in regularly and then the rehab programme was personalised to how recovery was going. Equipment is well maintained and a large variety to make your workout enjoyable. COVID measures in place and a welcoming environment throughout. The 24/7 access is amazing for completing the needs of wellness outside of working hours.

Fantastic experience: I joined Genesis a few weeks ago, and am so impressed with the professionalism of the staff, the range of classes and equipment and the value. The staff clearly explain all of the options, are genuinely interested in your goals and how to help you get there. Everyone is friendly and it is the best value and most professional gym I have been involved with. I would definitely strongly recommend Genesis to anyone!

Recommend to any newbie to the gym scene especially the coaching zone, best trainers who will motivate you to be your very best and classes that will get ur blood pumping and make you feel great afterwards!

Fantastic experience: I’ve been to many gyms over the years and this is probably the best I’ve been too. It caters for all ages and levels, very clean with friendly staff. Always see staff wiping down equipment or vacuuming when not conducting PT. Highly recommend and have already done so to my mates.

Fantastic experience: My name is Jayne, I have been to a few gyms, but Genesis far outweighs the rest. The team are friendly and always available if help is needed. It is the cleanest gym I have been to and there are plenty of cleaning/anti bacterial supplies provided. The members come in all age brackets which is a good sign, and it is a happy atmosphere. It is an experience as well as a work out. There is a shop cafe attached as an added bonus.
