Golds Gym Fyshwick

Negative experience: Insanely hot temperatures inside, regularly exceeding 25degrees and on occasion 30degrees; cardio room that’s effectively unusable for this reason. Management that seems to care more about money than members health and safety. Equipment that’s old; plate stacks that catch and jam on cable machines if you use heavier selections. Dumbbell racks that are better suited to a museum with rust gathering on them. Broken mirrors held together with tape. Broken TV screens. Vending machines with a grand total option selection of 3 or 4 choices. Toilets that stink of stale urine. I would advise anyone AGAINST joining until management change their priorities.

Negative experience: Was a member for a couple months, noticed they were double charging me, called multiple times to try get it rectified and the money refunded and each time just got the run around or was promised they’d fix it only for nothing to happen. Poor service and dodgy business practices.

Positive experience: Good gym great prices however they're incredibly slow at restocking the wipes for cleaning equipment, at this stage it's nearing on 2 months with nothing to wipe down equipment.

Fantastic experience: The best place to train in Canberra. Over the last year, Lee and his team have done so much to the place - it looks fantastic. A locally owned gym, they care about the cleanliness, the upkeep of machines and they take feedback. You'll see Lee the owner working out in his own gym too, always great to see! The addition of new areas and equipment (old school Dumbbell rack) is fantastic as there is plenty of spaces to workout - it doesn't feel croweded or busy. Get into Gold's and sign up - you defintely won't regret it.

Fantastic experience: Plenty of equipment, usually two or more of each machine. Never too busy. All weights are in lbs but other than that a 5/5 gym

Negative experience: A worst experience with communication. Never respond to calls and emails for member cancellation

Positive experience: Not a bad little gym. Plenty of the right equipment, a little bit cramped in places but you can still get your workout done during busy times.

Fantastic experience: With the change of ownership recently there has been significant improvements within the gym and lots of exciting things to come. New equipment purchased and the floor layout changed to benefit us. We have a fantastic group of women that attend regularly and support and encourage each other. The new classes that Lee and Tash teach are great, challenging us to new and different levels of fitness. The atmosphere in the gym has changed for the good and I feel more comfortable and confident now to go and do my own things out on the floor. I really look forward to my mornings at the gym. Fantastic experience: I had an incredibly rewarding experience during my first boxing class with Lee today. His dedication to ensuring my enjoyment while simultaneously pushing me to give my absolute best was truly remarkable. Lee is absolutely perfect for his role, and his impact on transforming lives is truly inspiring. I wholeheartedly encourage more individuals to sign up for his boxing class, as the experience is truly worth the effort and sweat. I eagerly anticipate attending more classes with Lee in the future.

Negative experience: Since the change in management the gym has had some nice upgrades and changes but still lacks in a lot of other aspects. The gym floor is moderately well kept at best, weights everywhere and equipment placing is so cramped together. The toilets are at least cleaned now on a more regular basis but at the most inconvenient times. Bathroom closed off for cleaning at afternoon peak hour with line of people waiting to use the disabled one to change or do business. Pricing for memberships are just as competitive as any other like Club Lime, Anytime fitness. Lucky to have gotten a good deal and have a cheaper rate weekly for my membership only to be harassed over the phone if my auto payment was declined. The music at the gym is ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. Not only is it too loud at sometimes the music choice is repeated every single day and the worst part if having to look up at the tv screens in the gym area to explicit music videos of women half naked and twerking. Overall only worth a lucky deal of cheaper pricing and convenience for myself. Below average gym at best.

Negative experience: Extremely poor customer service. I've sent 2 emails and made 2 phone calls to cancel my membership using the methods outlined in their contract yet im still being direct debited.

Fantastic experience: Great gym, well priced with very kind and helpful staff. Has more various and better quality equipment then most Club Limes and Anytimes in Canberra. Wasn't very busy at all when I went and would 100% reccomend it to anyone who doesn't have trouble getting out there to train.

Negative experience: I have been requesting to cancel my membership for several months as i've been unable to use the gym due to myself and my children having a DVO against my former husband who is also a member. I contacted the owners to ask what accommodation's they could make for myself and my children to use the facilities safely and was told that now could be made. I was then contacted by a staff member who told me that I could pay a fee of $250 to cancel my membership, when I pointed out that they were essentially fining me for experiencing domestic violence I did not get a reply. Today I got a email informing me that they were sending me to debt collection for not paying for a service I was unable to use. I'd definitely recommend training at Gold's if you enjoy training in a unsafe environment full of 'supplement' users....

Negative experience: Honestly, great gym. Beautiful facility. Small toilets and showers, but that’s alright. The staff are really friendly. But cancelling is a nightmare. Can’t cancel online, can’t cancel over the phone, “please send an email with your name and we’ll cancel it for you”. Yeah cool, that was in December. It’s now July the following year and I’m getting emails from them saying my account is overdue. Turns out I’ve paid over $600 in membership that I don’t use with money I can’t afford to lose. Really unprofessional way to look after people. In fact, when I got back on track, I was gonna rejoin but definitely won’t anymore.

Negative experience: Gym itself is good, but this must be the only gym I have ever been involved with that has no cancellation policy/clause in regards to moving/relocation (when they are unable to provide services as there is no Golds in that location). Well, there is, at their discretion, which means there's really not. So, I either have to continue paying for a gym I cannot physically use for another three months, or pay $250 to terminate now... which is more than what it'd cost me to let it just run its course. If you're ADF, I'd recommend you look elsewhere.

Negative experience: So to briefly sum up my experience with Gold's gym Fyshwick, it was not pleasant at all to say the least. I cancelled my membership on the 16th of march 2020 due to the circumstances of Covid-19 and the bush fires as I was still being charged whilst the entirety of the gym was closed off to members access. 20+ emails (that were left unread) of me trying to cancel my membership along with the accumulation of $500 odd dollars of over-due fees (due to not getting a response from management) I was finally met with a response from Emily on the 8th of September (6 Months later since my initial cancellation!!!) stating that my membership was resolved and that my account "had" been closed and that no more payments were due. As apparently the "debit company" that they were with at the time failed to close my account after I paid the cancellation fee?! Now moving on from that circumstance 3 days ago I was met with a nice email stating that I was referred to an debt collection agency apparently stating that I owe just over $200 worth of overdue fees? Two days later I called up (11 times to be exact) to finally be met by a pleasant girl who actually took initiative in resolving the manner. However, she simply stated that she we will give me a call back to speak about the matters. I am hoping that some managerial skills can be shown finally after being neglected and screwed around for a year. I will follow this review up to notify potential future customers if things do not work out pleasantly to let them know exactly what they are getting themselves into. To sum this up: I was not met with due care and skill at all. Experienced poor management beyond belief and was met horrible communication skills.

Negative experience: Absolutely useless in regards to communication & customer service. I cancelled my gym membership several months ago which was simple enough & was never notified of any outstanding amounts at the time. I've just received a letter from a debt collection agency for $115 for apparently outstanding amounts. I have not received any emails, calls, texts or anything at all telling me I had anything outstanding. My account details haven't changed & I haven't seen any attempts by them to retrieve the money. If I owe it I'm happy to pay it but to receive a letter from a debt collector as my first communication is annoying beyond belief. In addition to the pattern of awful service I emailed & Facebook the staff several times with no response asking whether the 8 week challenge was still taking place during the lock down or if the $159 I paid to participate would be refunded due to cancellation? No word, no response no nothing. I wrote it off & decided to cancel & now to receive this is infuriating. I would not recommend this gym for any new customers & any existing customers should think twice before joining. Go to club lime Fyshwick, the process is simple, automated with no fuss, no wonder they're dominating.

Negative experience: I would NOT recommend this gym. The customer service is poor and they do not address customers complaints. They debit you without explanation and then try to say that the transactions are not showing up on their system. The gym should improve their problematic customer service and keep track of where their customers money is going, they should also send their customers a copy of their contract in a prompt manner. I am not normally one to write a review, but I would not recommend this gym at all.

Negative experience: I would not recommend this gym at all. Once they lock you in to an ongoing contract, there is a lack of customer service and support. Makayla fails to escalate matters to the General Manager and management as requested multiple times including poor complaints handling processes where they don't address all your concerns and cherry pick what to address. Despite confirmations of suspensions, they continue to debit you unlawfully and you have to continue to follow up with no resolution in writing. In summary, would not recommend.

Positive experience: Big gym with amazing staff and a smoothie bar. The power racks have reduced to 4 but have placed a 3 cell rig in the centre of the floor. There is a large cardio area upstairs with lots of cardio equipment, a large range both weight stack and plate loaded machines. There are also 2 rooms set up for a variety of classes in the mornings and evenings which can be used outside of classes also.

Fantastic experience: Good range of equipment, good layout, showers toilets change rooms good, its a large floor layout kinda industrial get-the-job-done gym. If you want a more visually "softer" gym it's best to look elsewhere ( Anytime Fitness in Fyswick springs to mind) staff are approachable and most (95%) of the other customers are everyday folks. Just FYI, I'm an older dude who expected a more man only kind of gym, but the ratio is 60 - 40 and the girls on the whole go just as hard as the guys, and I have yet to see any problems with a good strong female presence, quite the opposite, it makes some of the clowns behave themselves.

Negative experience: Would be a good gym if edicate and general gym cleanliness were maintained and or enforced . 95% of the time the gym floor is littered with unused weights and equipment not to mention most machines left loaded with plates and not wiped down after use . The workers / PT seem more enamoured with posting on social media then working or actually improving the culture of disrespect the majority of the members have for the gym and other members . I have complained to the gym numerous times and nothing has changed . Its not the employees fault that these things happen but it would be pleasing to see members held accountable for treating the gym in this disgusting and disrespectful way . Suspension ? fines ? Or even just pulling someone aside ? Might be time to find a new gym as this one seems to care more about social media and selling shirts then having a reputation of a good solid clean well managed gym .

Fantastic experience: I was impressed from the time I walked into the gym to have a look. Mikayla was amazing. She was so helpful and I was impressed when she took time to show me around and answer all my questions. The gym is so well layed out and I was very impressed by the equipment and space. Such a positive vibe. Really excited to be training here to achieve my own personal fitness goals. Would highly recommend to my friends.

Fantastic experience: The moment I walked into Gold's Gym in Fyshwick I found the manager and all of the personal trainers very friendly and helpful. I took a quick 5 minute tour of the gym and I knew immediately I was going to sign up. Gold's has the best equipment, plenty of space to exercise, numerous classes to choose from and the proven track record of getting people fit for the last 40 years. I really enjoy my workouts at Gold's and would highly recommend anyone to join as the staff at Gold's know how to deal with all cliental ranging from the novice to the experts in the fitness industry. Fantastic experience: Huge Gym, great equipment, friendly staff, people and atmosphere. I've been training here under the new owners since August 2017. Really like it and I definitely feel I get my moneys worth with all the equipment and room to train in. I've never had to wait for equipment, which is great with trying to get your workout in during a lunch break, for example. There are 6+ full cage squat racks, 3 with full lifting platforms, for Deadlifts and Olympic style lifting. Rogue fitness bumper plates 5kg to 20kg. Full range of dumbbells benches, Machines and all the accessory equipment like kettle bells, medicine balls, etc. Full range of cardio equipment, bikes, treadmills, step machines, mountain climber machines. The best gym, would never consider any other gym in Canberra after going here.
