Negative experience: It's old and dirty

Positive experience: Nice facility and had my own swim lane mid-afternoon. Staff were efficient and courteous. I don't know why people continually bang on in these reviews about discovering friendly staff. That's what they're paid to be for heavens sake. It would be more relevant to say they were surly and discourteous (which in Whyalla they weren't)!

Negative experience: Some great facilities- however it’s the only pool in Australia that if you take your snorkel and googles to swim you can’t wear them in the water - apparently the tempered glass can break.

Positive experience: This YMCA facility is an excellent resource for a Country town and for those visiting, offers the opportunity to train in some decent facilities. I used the venue for lap swimming as it was included with the Fitness Passport Membership. Pool was clean, comfortable temperature and not too busy - the lanes are really only suitable for one swimmer though. Lifeguards always on patrol and in the vicinity for safety. Didn't get a chance to utilise the spa and sauna options, but good to have those facilities available. Loads of free parking available.

Fantastic experience: A great day stop! Kids were so happy with the indoor play space and the kids pool, that we are going back again today. Lifeguards were very friendly and helpful Will come every time we have a stop in Whyalla. Thank you for a wonderful facility.

Negative experience: Pool area is small. But adequate for kids. There are 2 pools. Both indoors water slide is closed off for unknown reason. Lifeguard on duty was really cool. But there was a birthday party on so an entire pool closed. Facility appeared unclean.

Positive experience: Great facility in the regional Australia. Soft play area and pools are great for kids. Hot spa pool wasn't working during our 10 day visit. Customer service at Cafe counter was unwelcoming.

Positive experience: Great public swimming pool, would be nice to have the slide and kids fountains running more often. Maybe an increase in water temp during winter to make it more appealing. Does have gym, spa, sauna, water slide, squash court, play cafe and 3x pools (all various sizes). Great friendly service and staff. Give it a try.

Negative experience: we daily play badminton and this girl who is usually on Sunday morning always whinge about giving only one shuttle to play and we have to go 3 times just to grab another one. Please give some training to your staff and explain them we pay to play and we can have more than one shuttle at a time.

Fantastic experience: Only been in the recreation centre to have a quick look around.. quite a large place that caters for all ages.. if you like to swim to get fit or just relax and have fun with the kids this is the place to go.. basketball court, gym weights area, sauna, aerobic and excercise classes, it also has water slides .. prices didn't seem to be too high

Positive experience: I've recently used to the Rec centre pool to help heal an injury. I appreciate the size of the change room facilities, that I have space in the pool to do my exercises and the friendliness of the staff.

Fantastic experience: I'm impressed with the size, range of services, swimming spa and sauna facilities at the Whyalla Rec Centre and the reasonable cost. This facility has been operated by the Whyalla Council for many years and is currently managed by the YMCA. Staff and service is friendly and efficient. I was pleased to see the water slide operating during the school holidays as this was an expensive facility to install and the inability to use it was unfortunate. Well done to the management and staff of the centre and well done to Council for continuing to provide this excellent facility for all Whyalla residents.

Fantastic experience: Terrific facility, the gym has a laid back atmosphere and everything you need including friendly, knowledgeable staff and the pool and sauna are a great way to relax after your workout. Really good value for money especially for families. 24hr access is another good feature.

Fantastic experience: I am a member and I am trying to loose weight, so to motivate me to exercise I go swimming after my walk. The staff here are very friendly and helpful. It is so relaxing to go for a swim and let my muscles relax in the spa. I also do weights before a swim. It is good to know there are some good exercise classes I can go to if I choose to.

Positive experience: Used the gym facilities while in town. Good selection of equipment even if it is a little bit older. Enough equipment to do a decent workout for whatever you're training. $16.50 for casual entry which is a bit pricey for the equipment but that also gives you access to everything else including pool abs classes.

Fantastic experience: I have a membership and have tried most of what the facility has to offer and love the place. The staff are super friendly, welcoming and helpful. Facilities are clean, tidy, modern and bike friendly with an indoor bike rack. The group fitness sessions are well designed and there are many to choose from with times to suit all work schedules. Recent launch of MyZone fitness tracker integration has made group exercises even more fun and and informative as you can compete in real time with the group to see who's putting in the most effort and see how hard you're pushing yourself by looking at all the heart rate data displayed in real time on a TV. The pool is very large, clean and has plenty of lap swimming lanes.

Fantastic experience: Great range of facilities - gym, pool, spa sauna. The leisure pool is always lovely and warm. Even on a cold day its nice and warm.

Fantastic experience: The rec gym is great. The staff are super helpful, equipment is easy to use and other gym members are encouraging. I would recommend this gym to anyone.
