Negative experience: Outdated equipment that always breaks down, takes weeks to get fixed. Sauna is out of order frequently but they are happy to put rates up without informing you in advance. Toilets often blocked and not flushing, locker doors falling off or locker locks not working. The list can just go on and on…..

Negative experience: Worst experience I have ever had with any fitness place here.. Around July this year I tried to cancel my subscription and they ended up still charging me for it along with other extra charges and after calling them for 30+ times over a span of 3 months and emailing, even getting in contact with the regional manager who also did not reply to my email, I still have not gotten my money back. They keep saying its a third party thing and its out of their control but why should I be the one to bear the damages? Also they will tell you that they will call you with updates but they never do...

Negative experience: While being a member for year gym was ok had all machines wanted, weights and cardio. Outdated equipment and a lot of things broken either not fixed or took months to fix usually cable machines. My main issue is I told them in person 2 weeks before I left the state to cancel membership and 3 months later they are still charging, I've emailed and rang 6 times now trying to solves this each time someone says it has to be the manager we've emailed him you'll get your money refunded but again nothing happens no calls no email from the manager payments still coming out, worst experience I've ever had trying to leave a gym. Join the seals gym in Maroubra or snap fitness! Not worth it

Fantastic experience: I'm gonna make this review super simple. Gym is great has a lot to offer. Sauna ace. Classes they have to offer are brill. But none of that stuff would be enough to motivate me to take the time out to write a review. I am writing this review for one reason. Tark - What a guy. I visited this gym on my first day landing in Aus from the UK. He gave me the full tour. He interpersonal skills, communication, friendly nature, professionalism made me feel so welcomed to the gym and Australia. He is great and asset to the team. If you're considering joining the gym I would recommend you do, but more importantly get him to show you around! Thanks again Tark!

Negative experience: I have been a member for nearly 3 years. I moved to Singapore in August. Called to cancel my membership before leaving told all good. Have been charged like clockwork ever since. Have made 6 calls, went in person when I was back in Sydney for a week, multiple emails. Still charged as of Nov 7th. Absolutely ridiculous, borderline scam.

Negative experience: Worst experience trying to cancel my subscription since August, I’ve got very sick and then an important surgery in my brain, I can’t train ,I showed all the documents before surgery . They just hold for couple of weeks the account and then renew without my consent when I requested clearly the cancellation because of the sickness . I’ve been spoken with 5 people already and nobody give any answers and any refund .

Negative experience: Don't come to this service. Facilities are old, out of wipes during peak hours. And extremely arbitrary interpretation when you have problem with their contract. When you want to quit or end, they will try to interpret everything totally in favor of themselves. I cancelled it before the minimal period, but was still required to pay for 30 days notice. Here is the contract term: If your contract is designated as an ‘ongoing membership’ on the front page, you acknowledge that unless you provide notice of termination of your membership prior to the end of the minimum period, your membership fees will continue to be deducted until you give us 30 days notice of your intent to end your membership (or 14 days notice if you are a member based in Australian Capital Territory and/or South Australia). Don't come.

Negative experience: Poorly maintained this is one of the worst gyms in Sydney. The staff always friendly shower area never cleaned properly toilets often dirty equipment yrs obsolete

Negative experience: The best gym in maroubra, every single piece of equipment is a precious artifact with 100 years of history, the number of popular machines is amazing, some of them even have two, while snap has 4, which creates a huge waste. Some people would use just one machine for more than half an hour, but they were trying to avoid injuries caused by others using the machine, they were so educated and compassionate! In order to prevent people from going to the gym after a day of hard labor and avoid health damage caused by late-night exercise, so this gym is only open until nine o'clock on weekdays, and in order to spend more time with their families, it is open until seven o'clock in the evening on weekends, which is really touching! Personal trainers are particularly enthusiastic, who can believe that in Australia there are still actively selling classes of personal trainers, do not buy not stop, must help everyone to achieve the best fitness results, touching to tears! The bottom line is that this gym, although the equipment is old and few in number closes early, is exceptionally expensive and is the highest charging gym in the area, highlighting the strong financial resources once you join. We love fitness first so much! Wish it closes soon!

Negative experience: The entire gym is dusty and dirty: common areas, toilet etc. Poor maintenance on the equipment, some falling a part and some frequently out of order. Nobody, absolutely no soul there clean their equipment after they finish. You have to carry wet wipes to clean before and after you use the machines if you don’t want to lay down on other people’s sweat. No one unload their weight from equipment. And nobody cares - otherwise at least the “personal trainers” with Fitness First T-shirt would do it, right? But no… you just have to unload the whole thing before setting up your own weights. Lack of accessories. You need to pay the gym plus buy and bring your own barbell / hip thrust pads - because they don’t have it. I’ve never seen this in my life. The only good thing is the yoga class on Saturday morning, but the schedule is just not well managed. One class finishes at the exact same time that the next one starts. You are still folding your mat to leave your relaxed class and people run inside and rush to take your place. Can’t you just put a 10min break? This is probably the worst Fitness First in Sydney, and with so many complaints about the same stuff I really don’t understand why no action is being taken.

Negative experience: Ongoing maintenance issue. There is a dedicated yoga and Pilates studio. It is in need of electrical maintenance and has been for about 9 weeks. The lighting in there is super bright and unsuitable for yoga and relaxation classes. A couple of weeks to get something repaired is reasonable, but more than two months??? Woeful. UPDATE - two weeks later? Still not fixed!!!

Negative experience: Cancelled my membership 5 months ago, and they continued to charge me after confirming they had cancelled. Refused to answer any emails or refund my monies. This was also after being a member for over 10 years.

Negative experience: DO NOT JOIN ANY FITNESS FIRST!!! I don't know what has happened over the years but the majority of the Fitness First gyms have gone far downhill in customer service, quality and maintenance of equipment and communication with members' queries. No communication, called multiple times and no one ever answers. Gym equipment in need of a massive overhaul as well. Not recommended.

Negative experience: Minimum maintenance possible, broken equipments since 2023. Steam room dirty, showers disgusting.
Negative experience: Terrible narcissistic culture in this gym. People will set up cameras and film you while you are working out to put on their personal social media. Staff don’t seem to care about the privacy of people in the gym. In addition to this there is a lot of dropping weights and unnecessary yelling.
Negative experience: Do not use this Maroubra Fitness First gym. Team members there don’t care even if you were member for over 15 years. They just want your money only provide very bad service. Use Snap fitness. Any other fitness gym but avoid at any cost Fitness First MAROUBRA. Always dirty , broken machines , leaking roofs , if you want to cancel the gym membership you would still have to pay to the gym for 30 days even though I have 14 years long membership with them. I’m getting every one I know to cancel their membership. AVOID AVOID AVOID

Fantastic experience: Great to back after 8 months off after major ankle surgery. Nick is the best physio and operates out of FF, made sure I was safe and back walking, hiking and gyming ASAP.

I was a member of this gym for over a year and there were many things that I could point out wrong; constantly broken and old equipment, dirty, bad management. although the staff that worked there were very friendly the management was not, I was told I would not be charge another TWO WEEKS after I canceled as there was only going to be one day over lap but they charged me anyway. again not due to the staff as they were new (the person that was dealing with me) but the management should make sure the staff know the polices! I also had my head phones stolen, I came back after one hour of realising I had left them there and I had basically no help from anyone. the staff said no one handed them in and I even saw them looking through the lost and found box. I asked on three different occasions were they found and I got a no. when a friend of mine, who knew one of the staff members there asked, they were in behind the reception desk! I don't know what the motive was but they were expensive head phones and I think it was so bad of them to lie and say they didn't have them when they did, they had a duty of care to give us back our stuff if they have them!! I've also had a lot of friends belonging being stolen from this gym! be careful!

Positive experience: This is now my local and there's a great community vibe here. It's not a fancy gym but has everything you need, plenty of space and the staff make you feel welcome (shout out to James, Murray, Rado and co). Peak times are early morning and evening but there's always space and equipment so you're not waiting too long between sets.

Negative experience: In general fitnessfirst is way too expensive. They increased their pause membership prices( from $4 to $5) and they need 1 month notice on membership cancellation. Although their instructors for classes are amazing,I just dont think I'll keep the membership once I come back from my holiday.

Negative experience: Told me my account was on freeze, took $287 while I was told I couldn’t come back to the gym. Tried to contact the manager who has been ignoring all calls - extremely deceiving considering I was with this gym for more than 5 years, absolutely outraged by how they stole from me.
Positive experience: When I was paying for the contract, I was offered for two personal sessions with a trainer for 39 bucks. I had to cancel one of them before and I could hardly find the club's phone, I was told at the reception that the session would be cancelled. She says ok. As it turned out my PT was unaware of the cancellation and I was charged for the session. And the second session was 30 minutes in time, 10 of which was training, and 20 was empty chatter and selling training. Noone send me money back. Also I didn’t get my membership card 2 months and leave my locker unsecured. Only one thing what really makes me happy is yoga class.
Negative experience: Great gym staff, location, parking. Equipment poorly maintained. Same ongoing issues with broken equipment worn out rubbers, cables bolts. Poorly maintained drink fountains. Change the filters decalcify the nozzles! Staff are great. All the ongoing issues coolant leaks from ceiling worn floors and other concerns are a top down problem from fitness first. Not the staffs fault. Fitness first should be auditing their gyms. These issues becoming a safety risk for members and cause over crowding.
Fantastic experience: Came back after 2 years due to the pandemic to find the place refreshed, spick and span.Happy to be back and start a gym workout instead of working out at home or at the park.The ladies at the reception were cheerful and helpful as always.

Fantastic experience: i want to let people know about the fantastic physiotherapist, Nick, that works at F.F. Maroubra Junction. i was sent to him by Ben from H.K. podiatry, maroubra junction,who is also fantastic. these 2 men have changed my life. i have suffered years of excruciating pain to,the point of wanting to be in a wheelchair, due to ill fitting orthotics and exercises that didnt help. now, i am almost pain free. i highly recommend both these wonderful healers.
Negative experience: Customer service is pretty bad… signed up for membership 6 weeks ago still no card (despite asking 3 times a week when I go in) and refuse to give an interim card so I can use the lockers ? Went to bond street in the city instantly recieved a card and bag and much better service overall. Fitness first is great just not in maroubra… facilities are reasonable but gym is dirty and lots equipment in poor condition. Recommend fitness first in other locales
Fantastic experience: Easy parking and nice gym
Negative experience: It took them over 2 months and a lot of effort from my end to cancel my membership (as they wouldn't let me suspend). In the mean time they have been charging my expired bank card, for membership I should not have been paying. To try and sort out the issue, I have tried calling the 1300 number 11 times in the past few months without success, each time it makes me hold for a while before hanging up on me. I also tried going in person and they referred me away again. Now they are referring me to the DEBT COLLECTORS! Way to treat a loyal member of many years.

Negative experience: The front desk staff and manger need customer service training immediately. You have double standards for asking people to wear masks. If you are going to ask people to wear masks when entering the gym at least do it to everyone and not just some of the people you chose to do it. Also wear masks yourself you hypocrites.

Negative experience: They did not cancel my membership when I asked (2 months prior to membership ending) and now I have to pay for their mistake. I tried contacting them through lockdown and nobody was there to sort it out for me. The worst customer experience ever, poor service.
Negative experience: I have never been to a gym with more arrogant and stuck up staff and management. Do yourself a favour and join any other gym. The staff and managers act as if they are doing you a favour letting you train there. If other fitness firsts are the same I can't see how they will stay in business nor should they.

Positive experience: Improved but at times a lack courtesy for not hogging machines - manners or proper upbringing ! More prevalent of this behavior from the so called rough locals as opposed to the new crowd that comes in - staff are better now.
Positive experience: Nicer environment compared to the city clubs. Only problem in my opinion is the lights after they got changed a while ago. They're now a bit too bright. Feels like I'm working out in an office room

Fantastic experience: This fitness first club has such a great community vibe. The club is setup well and has great equipment. Classes are awesome. I highly recommend the HIIT classes.
Fantastic experience: A fairly large gym with lots of equipment. Lots of wipe dispensers were installed for Covid and the place was managed quite well. Parking is downstairs in the shopping centre.

Fantastic experience: Fitness First Maroubra is great - huge gym, friendly staff and great facilities. Looks like a lot of the negative reviews are about contracts which is a head office issue - the Maroubra team have been great in my experience
