Positive experience: I used to work here over 10yrs ago and the mens sauna and steam room have not had an upgrade in any way since - a refurbish would go along way to improving the gym (or even just shut down the mens sauna and steam room and use the women’s and have a mixed sauna liked a lot of other gyms do). Aside from that, the gym has all the equipment you need but some of the machines and gym equipment adjacent to the cardio equipment probably need to be moved around as do the fans so people can properly use the machines without bumping in to other people and equipment. Further, the leaking holes in the roof on the free weights floor have been leaking in the same places since I worked there over 10yrs ago - surely these should have been fixed by now. Reception staff are always pleasant. If you address these things gym would be 5stars!

Negative experience: Okay gym with a good variety of equipment but poorly maintained and changing rooms / showers need a major upgrade. Also major issues with overall cleanliness. Their membership approach / team are the real let down - signed up for a free pass online and ended up having to sign up to a trial for 7 days to access the gym. Thought it was okay and then realised actually the gym is not for me. This is when the fun began… it became a complete nightmare to cancel - the reception team were dishonest telling me I could cancel online, impossible to get hold of anybody by phone, then they disputed that I’d asked to cancel. I begrudgingly stayed through the cancellation period which was 7 weeks in total (not rolling four weeks cancellation) and then they continued to chase me for money with aggressive phone calls and constant emails. Finally resolved after chasing again and reminding them of the agreed final payment date but frankly the worst membership experience I’ve had.

Negative experience: Not sure which recent natural disaster can explain how busted this gym looks and feels - more stained, broken and missing ceiling tiles appear each week (why even have a ceiling?!), buckets for leaks and overall poorly maintained grime pit. Can’t see the ‘platinum’ through the inch of dust…

Positive experience: It's an okay gym, but it is dirty, the machines are always broken and the reception staff have said hello to me maybe 4 times in the 2 years I have been going there.

Negative experience: Lacklustre maintenance, gym is dirty and is packed making it hard to workout. It is hard to engage with staff to get machines fixed.

Positive experience: They don’t have a towel hire service here so if you’re a visitor to town either bring a hotel one (weird) or they want you to buy a Fitness First one for $13 (thanks but nah).

Negative experience: Probably a nice facility, but I didn’t get the chance to find out. I signed up for a free trial and received a call shortly after to discuss the details and the location. When I arrived, I was told I couldn’t use the free trial because I would only be here for two weeks. And she offered me a day pass at $32.
Fantastic experience: A very safe gym for women as the community is very diverse and accepting. People are considerate of each other and the staff are welcoming and helpful
Negative experience: Nasty scammers, reported multiple times. Stay away if you don’t want to get robbed. I am taking legal action to get them to stop taking money from my account after ending 30 days (!) cancellation period even though i have never step a foot in their gym and was a single carer for my partner during the time. My emails are being absolutely ignored. Used to be Fitness First member for years in Gold Coast. Wonderful treatment guys

Fantastic experience: Highly recommend: Excellent full service well maintained gym. Great staff, experienced Personal Trainers, all the free weights equipment you’ll need, cardio section upstairs, steam room, sauna, swimming pool downstairs and a towel service. There is also physiotherapists separate from the gym but located within.
Positive experience: Very crowded. Equipment is pretty old. Only 3 very mediocre squat racks. All the pull up bars are fat gripped for some reason. Good luck using any dumbbells. Only opens at 6am?? Sauna is decent, outdoor area is nice. Vibe is not great. Avoid if possible

Negative experience: This is supposedly a Platinum gym. They charge us like it is. It is also one of the m9st crowded gyms I have been to. They needed some repairs, so they shut-down the entire free weight for an entire saturday. I would have expected the work to be done when the gym is closed or at the very leas, send members an email warning them

Negative experience: This has to be the worst gym in Australia , not only the reception staff and management extremely disrespectful as well as unprofessional but the personal trainers are also extremely ignorant despite the fact there are more then 5 personal trainers working at any time and there are so many gym patrons also trying to use the equipment at the same time it defiantly has to be the most distracting as well unnerving place to train for both beginners as well those who are advanced such myself. Negative experience: This is probably the worst of the FF gyms…many broken and old machines. Dirty bathrooms and almost ALWAYS a leak somewhere in the roof. Far cry from a platinum facility!
Negative experience: Why do FF allow the desk staff to sit playing on their phones all day? If they actually walked around and checked for broken equipment, and made sure people actually use towels, and put their weights back it might be half-decent gym.

Fantastic experience: Friendly gym with lots of equipment options to choose from. It does get very busy at peak times but if you come with a plan A and a plan B workout option you will always find a routine.

Negative experience: The worst customer service. Been coming here for years front desk always on their personal phone or only talking to each other never greet or farewell customers front desk staff are absolutely rude. What’s the point of paying them if they can’t do the bare minimum. PT’s never make the effort to build a community with the locals unless you’re paying them for training. For the fee’s we pay it’s a joke.

Fantastic experience: I come to Sydney for about 3-4 months every (Sydney) summer. Have been using FF for 3 years (as has my wife). She likes the classes, I like the machines. Staff is friendly and there is a nice vibe from trainers and other regulars I have come to know. Good selection of machines. Unsure why people said it was dirty; to me it looks clean. Very competitive with my Manhattan gym.
Negative experience: Pros: Near public transport? Cons: Staff, Gym, and everything else. Horrible Gym, extremely dirty, and very rude staff, particularly one named Matt. Have been overcharged several times, almost impossible to get anyone over the phone. They honestly do not care, and you can tell that the staff would rather be anywhere else but there. A 1 star Motel Gym would be a better experience than this.

Negative experience: I had a good time at the gym with nice people. But it is the dirtiest gym I’ve ever seen in my life. I don’t know if they ever cleaned anything before. They charged for 10 days during worldpride 150 Aud which is 100€ and stop towel service and cleaning as well. There is a camera in the sauna room and the sauna it self is very old dirty wood. Some machines never worked. The locations great but the locker room and everything needs to be cleaned!

Fantastic experience: I have been coming to this gym during my sabbatical year in Sydney and I have absolutely loved it. The gym and the equipment are great, lots of space to do different exercises but the best thing about this gym is the staff and their good vibes. Melisa and Richard from reception are so lovely and friendly, always with a smile on their faces. All the personal trainers are amazing and they really help to get you motivated, special mention to Rob (both of them), Jase, Rafa, Phil, Tullio and Perry. Thank you so much guys, I am going to miss you all, training at this gym has been amazing, keep up the good work!

Positive experience: It's a decent gym. Good layout, plenty of room, and good variety of well maintained equipment. The negatives for me are 1. Water leaks when it rains 2. Some of the speaker placements above the treadmills blast directly into your ear...too loud, not healthy.

Negative experience: "Platinum" is a bit of an exaggeration. It's ok - great location - decent range of equipment and weights. Customer service can be really awesome - some really nice staff - with a few exceptions from the ones who ignore everyone. Forget ever trying to leave a comment or feedback - the 'manager' doesn't do anything - as the staff will happily tell you. As usual with Fitness First - they don't like spending $ on maintenance or cleaning - the changing rooms are usually kinda disgusting.

Fantastic experience: I came up from Melbourne to do some extended business and the team at Fitness First were fantastic in organising a competitive rate, mindful of my need to go back to Melbourne at some stage. I loved the gym itself, as it was usually busy and gave you a great feeling working out in that large group environment. The trainers were always helpful, the staff were friendly and provided great service. A few months ago I had a knee injury which forced me to put my membership on hold and recently I had to cancel because my knee injury wasn't improving. Again the crew were great and managing my membership on hold, and eventually cancelled was done quickly and simply. Nothing but high praise from me. Well done to FF Darlinghurst. 5 stars.

Positive experience: Ok gym but have given 3 stars just for the fact fitness first has left parts of the ceiling off for more than a year now with water dripping into buckets. I just don’t get how this is an issue. Your daily staff would see it and regional managers would see it on occasional trips in - yet still nothing changes. If you’re blaming the landlord fix it yourself and sue them for repair costs. If you’re going to leave it then you’d have to basically offer $10 a week gym memberships to put up with this + the annoying taps in the bathroom basins. Won’t return, have found a new gym.
Positive experience: Whilst the gym is well overdue for a refit & upgrade, & some of the equipment issues can take a essively long time to be repaired, the highlight for me are the staff which are always helpful, pleasant & do what they can with what they have.
Negative experience: Shockingly bad. Machines broken, buildings falling apart, steam room broken, sauna is about 25degrees (not an exaggeration) and no water nearby to heat it up not to mention it is full always and you basically have to sit on the floor. Staff is useless and are unable, unwilling or both to answer simple questions about fitness and health. Go somewhere else unless you like being overcrowded and waiting for your turn to use a dumbbell.. kings cross FF not much better btw
Negative experience: The lack of attention and cleanliness at this gym beggars belief. The showers are falling apart and filthy, the change rooms stink. The roof is leaking. There's equipment that's out of order. I am shocked how little care is taken here. Gross.

Positive experience: It used to be a good gym. There is no maintenance on the machine, it is frequent to find screws from machine on the floor. There are plenty of dumbells, barbells and accessories on the floor all over the gym. Some of the lockers are not working and some are han. There are leaks from the ceiling for month with buckets to collect water. You are welcome by nice and caring receptionist though.

Negative experience: (Removing the covid elements) Since reopening: - place is not clean in the slightest. Surfaces might be, but beyond that, filthy - showers have mould everywhere - no towel, no train? Definitely isn’t enforced Edit: this place is getting dirtier and dirtier. Surprised the whole ceiling hasn’t collapsed either with the 20 buckets collecting water round the place (I know we’ve had bad rain, but the buckets have been a thing for years) Edit: ignoring the filth, mould and general uncleanliness. The staff here have gotten so rude (minus the girl with blond hair and the Colombian girl who are always great , forget her name), it used to be incredibly friendly and welcoming. The Persian lady and the young brunette Aussie girl who are usually on together on weekends spend more time gossiping and being rude to members than anything. Sort it out. Edit: did a free trial at virgin, ten times better. Will we ever get new equipment or clean showers? Edit: still not sure why we all pay so much for terrible facilities, some new photos attached. Some tips (1) bathrooms need a complete deep clean, not the light touch quarterly clean that happens, there is mould everywhere that needs removed (2) easy one, clean the wall of hair and fluff at the entrance (3) fix the leaks and ceilings, feels like we are in an office lock from the 80s (4) have your staff do rounds so the showers actually have soap (most don’t by the time I get there), stop the bins (and buckets) from overflowing, and feel the wipes up (5) stop lumping random equipment where it fits, think where it would logically go lol Edit: close this place for a couple of days and clean and replace EVERYTHING. When I complain to management, they say they’ll let their cleaners know. This isn’t a normal cleaning fix, you need to fix the 10+ years of mould and terrible maintenance. Leaving 1st June for City Gym or Virgin if no improvement. Edit: I’ve seen better conditions at a park gym. Edit: decided to call back in and see if anything has changed. Equipment is being replaced more, bar that, HORRENDOUS. Surprised the ceiling hasn’t fully collapsed. Buckets everywhere. Mould everywhere.
Negative experience: Just walked in the gym to check on joining. Not a staff member in sight. No one checking my Covid vaccination certificate or if I had signed in. Had a few people stare at me as I wandered around and I think a p.t looked at me but never asked if I was ok. Just lost a membership
Positive experience: Seeing as all other fitness firsts have bumper plates and have received the upgrades with the rebrand 3 years ago, do you think you'll ever get around to removing the 40 bikes and putting in some cages etc. As a whole the fitness first brand is great and the staff at this particular gym are super friendly. The rating is more of a reflection on equipment compared to others within the brand. Jack

Fantastic experience: Very friendly staff. I was in Sydney on a two day visit. The gym at my hotel was closed for renovation. I googled and found a FF close by. I simply applied online and they sent me a guest pass. And viola I was allowed to use the gym. Very helpful staff.
Positive experience: Platinum, but don't provide 24 hours access, the open hours are shorter compared to the other fitnessfirst gym locations. No swimming pool either. It would be more fair if it stays as a regular club in the fitbess first club chain.
Negative experience: The worst hygiene and maintenance that I’ve ever seen at a gym. Steps were taken to notify management 3 times but never acted on. I’ve also never seen a cleaner visit, particularly the shower. Pretty poor especially during a pandemic.

Fantastic experience: This is by far the best fitness First branch I've been to in Sydney, with great and friendly staff, and spacious work out areas. Shoutout to Rafael and JoJo (I think) the Sunday staff who always project energy and smiling faces, no matter how busy they are, I hope my good word for them reaches their head office and managers. Always a positive environment.
Negative experience: I'm impressed with the lack of attention and service from the management. There is always a broken machine, and it last in this stage for weeks and weeks. Electric hazards and water liking is the day by day issue in this gym... I barely see the management taking care of the problems. Unbelievable how the reception staff works soo close to a water liking area where everyone can see the electric connections and cables getting wet. (I have reported this issues to Sydney Council) The water taps are always disgusting and full of mould. A clear example.. the squad machine is broken for five weeks, I have asked the staff, and they said that is no answer from the manager. The reception staff is always helpful and friendly tho.

Fantastic experience: Fitness First Darlinghurst is a great gym that is well managed and hires a great team. Admin staff are very friendly and helpful. PTs are also great and are considerate of the other members (they don't dominate whole areas or multiple machines at once). Last Friday I went to the Latin Dance choreography session that was ran to raise money for a Mardi Gras related charity. What a great event. Rafael (the class leader) was really good. Hopefully they bring that class back permanently so I can attend it.

Negative experience: Air conditioning never works during the summer, so you basically work up a sweat without actually working out. Friendly staff.
Positive experience: The main thing that puts me off this gym is the social etiquette and peak hour conditions. Most gyms I've been to in the past have a more friendly social culture to all, not selective. I keep seeing strange social behaviour without a considering how the person on the other end feels. My workout should be just as important as everyone else's. Peak hours the gym is crowded and it's hard to get a good workout in. I've noticed people tend not to wipe the equipment during peak hours, which is concerning too. The staff are friendly and the PTs have a positive attitude. The equipment is regularly wiped down by staff to help maintain a safe environment for all. The layout of the gym is good for a workout, but it could be bigger for Sydney standards.
Negative experience: The gym itself is nice but for a gym stating it is covid safe, is obviously not when the thickness of the dust in the toilets is yet to dwindle... I highly recommend either getting some new cleaners, or some more. Bathrooms need a good scrub in and out of cubicles.

Positive experience: Getting up the stairs to enter the gym is half the workout, so don’t recommend doing a big leg session and then attempting to leave Decent size but gets extremely busy and packed. Usual issue of weights and plates being everywhere that plagues every gym. Showers are really good as are the body wash and shampoo that is available.

Fantastic experience: I'm giving this gym 5 stars only for Ocho, he's the best trainer. After the girl on the reception was uncooperative when I asked to get my bioscore test done, Ocho offered to do it for me, then he helped me a lot by giving me advice and training based on my goals, he's an excellent trainer and has great customer empathy. Thank you so much Ocho!

Positive experience: It's a very well stocked gym, equipment is new with a wide range. I had a bad experience when using some equipment a PT who worked there just unloaded my weights infront of me and continued to push me away. As an avid gym user ive never felt so unconfortable.
Fantastic experience: Great Gym- Staff are super helpful and pleasant! I asked PT Alberino Izzo whilst he was in between clients for some pointers on my lifting technique and he was so helpful and took the time to help me which I am very greatful for - thank you!
Negative experience: I like the equipment - probably one of the best stocked gyms. But, what is it with the number of people that don’t use towels. Sweat everywhere. It’s like it’s encouraged to not use a towel. Management do not care. Very unhygienic. Disgusting, guys.

Fantastic experience: Fitness First Darlinghurst is so spacious and lovely. The staff were really helpful and the facilities so clean. I will definitely go back.
