York Cove Hotel

Positive experience: The room wasn't too clean, especially the toilet. We were promised an included continental breakfast that we're still waiting for. When we were trying to contact reception prior to our arrival no one was available to take our call and despite numerous messages being left no one contacted us. Overall a bit disappointing.

Fantastic experience: There's a fantastic Gym at this location that is quite new and practical. Hotel guests have access to it for free, otherwise it's a $20 per week membership. With good quality equipment for every body and muscle group, it's easily the best Gym in George Town, with a great community of regulars. Definitely recommend if you value fitness!

Negative experience: For any guests wanting to stay here, be warned. The bathroom was cold as the two small heat lamps were not enough to heat a huge bathroom, ironically with only 1 vanity. The spa bath did not work, which was one of the reasons we booked this place. The entire bedroom room shook during high winds during the night, yes, I kid you not, it literally felt like going through a mini earthquake during the night which made it impossible to sleep, perhaps an engineer is required. Their is also too much light coming into the bedroom from outside as blinds aren't blockout. No coffee machine, just basic instant coffee like a motel in the 90's. To make matters worse and more ridiculous, their coffee machine/breakfast facilities downstairs don't open until 12pm it's a hotel with a coffee machine! The restaurant at night was also pathetic and very expensive. Food was tasteless, service needs training on the menu and menu didn't match the plate (further review on restaurant's google review page). A nice shout out to the cleaning lady in the morning, who appeared to be the most genuine in terms of customer service while mopping the restaurant. Unfortunately, I will not be back.

Negative experience: Food was terrible, 5 different meals and none were hot, only JUST warm and bland and not cooked well. Sorry but being truthful

Negative experience: We came down from Queensland for the weekend for a family celebration and decided to have lunch at this hotel. Unfortunately amongst the 8 in our party, my mother in law's pizza was the only decent dish. My wife ordered the scotch fillet steak, cooked medium. With a $45 price tag she was expecting some beautiful Tasmanian produce. BUT........What was served was a very thin "minute" steak that was stone cold and basically not cooked at all. The fat on the sides of it was still white and not cooked. The inside was raw. And as she demonstrated to the 2 young ladies who were serving, by holding the jug of mushroom sauce upside down, the sauce was pretty much solid and stuck to the jug. Nothing fell out! The plate was returned to the kitchen uneaten, and after a while was replaced with a new plate of exactly the same thin, "minute" steak, although this was a new piece and was cooked properly this time. But, after a few mouthfuls my wife found a black hair under the edge of her steak and couldn't stomach eating anymore of it. The mushroom sauce was now runny in the jug (no doubt microwaved, as we did hear a bell), and curdled and unappetising. Such a shame, and a waste of food. Amongst the other dishes on our table, the 2 steak sandwiches were tough and very hard to eat. The chicken burger had pineapple in it, when we specificially asked for no pineapple. And the squid rings were fried so dark brown they were almost burnt. We were given a discount for my wife's steak, and ended up paying $30 for it instead of $45. Anywhere else would've made it free of charge. Sorry, but we wouldn't recommend the restaurant at York Cove Hotel at all and will go elsewhere next time.

Fantastic experience: Our meal at the Cove was delicious. We had a family gathering there, and they catered for 14 with ease. All meals came out together and were hot. Reasonably priced. We will be back.

Fantastic experience: Went there for dinner and are going there again tonight. Had the seafood tower between us last time, unsure what we'll have Tonight but highly recommend them.

Negative experience: Attended the grand opening tonight Wasn't worth the money. Very overpriced for what you get. Considering it was booked out, they seemed totally unprepared. Our order was incorrect and the menu apparently was incorrect with some dishes. We had ask for aircon to be put on as it was so hot inside. Outside was lovely except for the same song being on repeat!. Success is in details!

Fantastic experience: Luxury all the way. Beautiful location, we caught fish right of the front. What a view and the furnishings are luxurious. Lol, through in my cooking and a nice bottle of wine.......the view is fantastic

Negative experience: The place seems derelict. The restaurant is closed. The grounds are not looked after, and the mariner facilities are very poor , not maintained. Both the power and water have been turned off.

Positive experience: Prime position, magic views but is tired & in urgent need of lots of maintenance.

Negative experience: It’s waste of time trying to get in here because they won’t answer any calls. I have been trying for a day and a half. Don’t even return any calls. This is very disappointing to say the least. Terrible business.

Negative experience: Upon arrival the glass sliding door did not open fully which resulted in running into it. People in wheelchairs or with walkers would not have been able to get in. Upon being shown our room, the staircase leading up to our room smelt like sewage! Next, we noticed dirty dishes in the sink. The furniture was stained and the white leather chairs needed a good clean as they were brown. After running the bath to enjoy a spa, the spa did not work! Furthermore the remote to the TV in the bedroom only turned the TV on and then could not change channels which left us watching abc with fireman Sam and Playschool! Upon check out, we could not get into the reception area, we walked all around the outside of the building to a notice on the front door saying they were closed!! No mention of this upon check in the day before! Not happy at all with the stay, sad to see how run down this once nice place was. Will not be back!!

Positive experience: My wife and I stayed overnight for a birthday celebration- the restaurant and service was great and the accommodation (while comfortable) was a little dated and I was a little bemused at the lack of a doona cover ( oversight maybe) my brother and partner ( in one of the more expensive rooms) was kept awake by the hotel dryer going all night

Positive experience: Great location and vista, excellent service, stylish and comfortable. We ate at the Crazy Duck restaurant and while the fish & chips meal was quite nice with a generous salad and tasty tartare the "low & slow cooked pork jowl" was extraordinarily forgettable such that the cook ( no chef would have served it ) should have been so ashamed at the result that it should have been listed 'unavailable '. It was dry, tough and lacked any real flavour. In what is ostensibly a 4-star establishment, this meal only rated as an amateur's attempt at low & slow cuisine style. Unlikely to eat here again. Yes, we told a staff member of the issue which was not followed up. Such a shame as Georgetown must surely benefit from a place like this.

Fantastic experience: We finished our trip in this small country town after driving around Tassie with hiking/ camping. After camped in Bay of Fires and some serious walking, this place was a godsend. The 1 bedroom apt is huge, the bathroom is massive, the balcony over looks the NYE fireworks <3 The staff are friendly. The room's clean, neat, comfortable and just the place we needed to cleanse and relax. A restaurant is just within meters, and it offers decent meals too. The only downside is... the pool is not available and it's not up to the cleaning standard.

Fantastic experience: stayed new years eve entertainment was awesome manger and staff were great, food was very nice drinks were a bit pricey but other then that great room will be back again...

Negative experience: Restaurant and waiting service was very good - very friendly staff and food was good. Our room was very disappointing - basic amenities missing, power points in bathroom and bedside did not work, had to get rid of cigarette buts left on outside table and had to clean surfaces. Pool was not cleaned and poolside area had not been cleaned for a long time - very disappointed.

Positive experience: Big spacious rooms a plus. Blinds let too much morning sunlight in, so forget about sleeping in. Tv's very outdated. Coffee cups big enough for about 2 sips. Split systems in each room were convenient.

Negative experience: Really disappointed in the York cove hotel. I tried calling the hotel multiple times to book and left a message. I never received a call back. I then proceeded to book online and booked a lovely delux apartment for my elderly grandparents, when they arrived they were given a basement room with multiple flights of stairs and doors just to get there. Really disappointed as I wouldn’t have booked if I had have known that was their only room left and if their customer service was better this should have been clearly communicated but they don’t seem to know how to answer their phones. Do not book here. The communication and customer service is very poor.

Would have been a great veranda to soak up the sun and view if the wind hadn't been so strong. Would stay here again but for more than 1 night next time!

Negative experience: I recently dined at the York cove and had a very poor experience. The food was ok but the atmosphere was lacking. There seems to be new management that has taken over. Very long wait times especially at the bar we had to wait for almost 30mins to be served for drinks although they were well staffed. My mother came in the other week with her friend one of the staff ladies offered to take their umbrellas aside for them. When they were ready to leave they couldn't find their umbrellas to then be told that the umbrellas had been accidently thrown in the bin. Customer care is definitely lacking. Miss the previous owner and staff. The business is going down hill to me.

Positive experience: Had lunch and couldn't complain about the food but as for the service - well after the main coarse all three of us were left sitting there! Nothing cleaned up on the table (we had to stack the dishes for the waitress ourselves), we weren't asked if we would like more wine, there was no offer or menu given out for sweets, and then to top it off when one of us went up to see why, the waitress was too busy on the phone to even make a gesture that she would be with us shortly but then the ultimate insult came when the waitress finally did come out to see if we would like sweets and we made a comment that "we thought she had forgotten us", she said we have been very busy. Yeah right, the restaurant was lucky to even be quarter full, what happens when it is full!

Negative experience: So very disappointing. Turn up and our room has no view and no TV to watch the tennis and not even told this at reception. I'm not sure what the cleaners actually clean, the only reason we knew they had been was the bed had been made, the rest of the room hadn't changed for the few days we were there. We did have breakfast one morning where the chef (backpacker) got the order wrong and overcooked everything. On top of that we had blackouts and a tiger snake by the pool that a worker beating it to death infront of guests. No never again, I would rather stay in a tent.

Negative experience: They knew they were full. They knew that breakfast would be busy. They told us that due to the hotel being busy, there would be an hour wait on food. Question is, why didn't they put more staff on to deal with the peek in trade? Disappointing

Positive experience: Beautiful facilities. Quiet night as I was the only one there for dinner. Beautiful food. Great service. Good location. Great view. I have stayed at the apartments previously and they are 5 star. It's a touch of class in a rural town location. Very underutilised.

Negative experience: Came for lunch as the sign outside stated lunch available from 11AM. At 11:15AM we arrived and were told lunch was not available but we could order breakfast. We sat down and waited 20 minutes before someone took our order... In a restaurant with only one other occupied table. Then again, about half of those tables were occupied by dirty dishes. The single breakfast meal we ordered took another 25 minutes to arrive and the waitress brought two of the same meal and informed us 'the kitchen is actually closed, sorry, you can probably have the second one on the house'. As though it was our fault that we were allowed to order while the kitchen was closed. Okay... The drinks we ordered with breakfast never arrived and eventually we just got up and left. What an experience.
