Negative experience: The cycle room air con hasn’t been working months and the portable air con units they have installed rather than fixing don’t make any difference to the room when they are set at 22 degrees, turned on when the class starts and there are nearly 40 sweaty people working out. I feel so dehydrated after which makes me wonder is there an obligation by fitness first to check the temperature for the safety of the members. The staff has said it will be fixed but not able to say when. The air con was broken last summer which resulted in them cancelling classes until it was fix because it was a health hazard, does that mean the cycle classes will be cancelled again this summer? Numerous complaints have been made to the front desk to pass onto management and via email to fitness first head office (including the instructors) and still no change.

Negative experience: Rusty, old, wrecked machines and not enough grips for cables. Tbh never coming again, it feels a 100 years old equipment, if you want to get a heavy infection from rusty equipment come to this one.

Fantastic experience: Always tidy with great equipment and atmosphere, plus friendly staff and trainers. They also have a pool and saunas. I really enjoy coming here to exercise. You can even grab a great coffee or healthy lunch right next to reception with Mrs. Clair.

Positive experience: 1 star reviews are a bit over the top. Big gym, good range of stuff, is a bit rusty. It's fine, but yea you need a padlock. Edit: after going a few times had to bump it up to 4 stars.

Negative experience: I totally regret that I registered there, the changing rooms are completely dirty, greasy, broken, the equipment in the gym is all rusty and it's definitely not clean. I wish I could just cancel without any fees. I don't recommend anyone to this gym

Negative experience: This gym is trash. equipment is old and rusted, feels like a sauna with little to no air ventilation or air conditioning and got kicked out for wearing crocs with no prior warning after going there for 2 years. Choose any other gym on the northern beaches or any other fitness first branch and you will have a better experience.

Positive experience: Worst part of visiting this club is they’ve abandoned lockers that are locked by your card and adopted a padlock system that requires you to bring a padlock (or purchase from reception for $15). Having to carry a padlock on top of a card is a frustrating thing to have to account for, especially as this is applied at some clubs, but not all? There is no mention of that anywhere on the website, in fact the FAQs that refer to lockers just reference the smartcard system. A decent amount of equipment, but it’s a mix of old and new. But I think FF has been too liberal with their classification of clubs as ‘Platinum’. It’s a club. It doesn’t deserve a platinum rating.

Negative experience: Been going to gyms all around the Northern Beaches and beyond for 10+ years, and this is easily the worst gym i've been too. Every piece of equipment is rusted (can't use the excuse of being near a beach, its all indoors and should have adequate filtration etc), the place is humid all the time, all the rubber boards were heavily used so it's easy to trip. Overall such a bad gym, not sure why it's designated 'Platinum', if we're going by a metal rating, i'd go 'rusted iron'. Go to any other gym in the area, they'd all literally be better in every regard other than 24/hr. A home gym would be better...easily. If you're reading this, don't make this your home gym, you will regret it.

Negative experience: I had emailed and called this gym 65 weeks ago to cancel as I moved interstate. I never went to this gym again and when I found out the was still charged for it, the Manager Dan refused to even do some kind of goodwill gesture …don’t trust them …they only care about you when you sign up then you are a forgotten customer….

Negative experience: Happy to charge for ‘platinum’ memberships, but maintenance and general repairs is off the cards. Rusty, poorly functioning machines appear to have last seen grease or lube at date of manufacturers. Mould and fungus in bathrooms and steam room etc.

Negative experience: Worse Air-conditioning ever, specially at night, it's truly the worst. Incredible hot and filled with humidity from the swimming pool down below...not mentioned the chlorine smell filling up your lungs when you are trying to breath, definitely very harmful for your body. All the equipment it's very rusty and old, quite embarrassing to be called Platinum and paying Top Premium Price membership. A total Rip Off!

Negative experience: Used to be a great gym but the facilities are now so poor and dirty :( Equipment is old and falling apart on every level from the pool equipment to the machines on first floor. The floorboards on the studio for classes is so filthy that you wouldn’t want to put your mat on it

Negative experience: This is the worst gym I have ever been. Most of the equipment is corroded and rusty. The changing room is dirty, leftovers everywhere, I have been there yesterday and not willing to go there anymore. Since I have a 18 month membership, I need to pay a fee to cancel my membership. Never thought that the conditions would be that dramatic.

Negative experience: Mens changing room is in one of the worst states I’ve ever seen in a gym. 75-80% of the lockers are broken, the toilets are always in a terrible state, & some of the showers are broken. The equipment is also rusting & aging, particularly the barbells & kettle bells. Only train here out of convenience during work.

Negative experience: After 10+ years I have to say Fitness First (Dee Why) standards have dropped dramatically. Effectively they're running the gym into the ground with no real maintenance. The mens change rooms which probably has a couple of hundred lockers is now down to 20 that actually work. Complaints about the locker doors started over a year ago and yet just yesterday the response from the desk is "we are next in line after Chatswood - just keep trying different doors" ... it feels like they will ignore all these issues affecting their customers until the lease ends on the premise - sad situation. On rainy days, you will find several buckets on the gym floor catching leaks - that sums it up well.

Negative experience: So sad. This was a fantastic vibrant Fitness Club for years. Sadly it is being run down now. Broken doors off lockers, dirty, old equipment, little or no maintenance. Lots of staff and long time members have left. I loved this place for 20 odd years but it is in decay. Very sad.

Negative experience: Decent facilities, got a year membership, after 4 attempts to cancel it and many phone calls they just kept charging me every month when they said membership was cancelled. Even though I had them send me emails confirming no more further charges going to happen. Yesterday was charged again since early June that the cancellation took place.

Negative experience: The bathrooms are full of mould, this is the Dee Why club. There are weights all over the floor, one of my staff members who I pay for has nearly fallen twice and gone head first into a weights machine. The manger is sooo rude, I just can't understand why they have put a person like this in charge of a gym.

Negative experience: No communication or appreciating for current customers. Froze my account with a medical certificate due to a miscarrage and then complications with following pregnancy. Without notifiying me they unfroze my account and started charging me. When my Credit card expired they then forwarded me to a DebitSuccess Company where I emailed and Called several times to resolve. I was either never replied to, was on hold for over an hour before giving up or just forwarded onto another dead-end. Need lots of help on their communication. Its a trap, once they get you as a member they just want your money and don't care about you,

Positive experience: Anita, who looks after the front desk has the best customer service I have seen anywhere. Trish who manages the creche knows every child by name and has decades of experience with kids. It is worth it, just to know my child is in safe hands. Swimming pool and sauna room lovely to have during the winter.

Negative experience: Been coming here for years and as of last year been noticing not much interest in maintaining the amenities and the gym area. The gym mats are pulled out of place and are a trip hazard. none of the staff have bothered to try and sort this out. The steam room works when it want to and the door has been broken for at least 6 months and still to this day not fixed. The showers are filthy with broken / loose taps with the hot water not working on occasions and low water pressure. They sent me an email saying that they will be increasing their prices but since the price increase nothing has been done to address these problems. I have now ended my membership and will be going elsewhere. There are better options out there which are cheaper, convenient and offer a better all round service.

Positive experience: Steam room is a joke faulty or timer is set by a joker. Can be sitting there for ages with no steam then you give up get changed then realise it’s back on now. Personally I think they are Jewish with the timer. Not what you’d expect from a platinum gym. Wasting my time which I pay for. Would never join.

Negative experience: Would not do the right thing for my daughter when she came to cancel. No notification to her about the approaching end of her 12 month contract yet just keep taking fortnightly payments. Work with your customers - not against them. She’s gone to Crunch now. Cleaner, newer equipment, friendlier staff and a no lock-in contract.

Positive experience: Really interesting gym - more like a little community with all the shops - cafe, hairdresser, beautician etc. The pool is brilliant for learning to swim. Not so good if you want to do laps. Kinda over run with folks walking, learning to swim and General chaos. Perhaps it’s more calm during the week?

Negative experience: So how do we start? The lady at the counter was very lovely! Which was the best part of the experience! Lisa I think! Top notch! Keep her please no matter what! So when I enter to the locker room at 18.30, it was dirty, the floor was wet! First thing I do when I get up to the weight room, top up my water bottler, do people actually clean the fountain? It has not been done for months... Is it a platinum gym at all? All the material is old! Looks like the old equipment has been kept and we have just changed the paints... half of it is new which you exited from a platinum and half is old and rusty! Are people in charge of organising the weight at all? You cannot find anything! Soo much mess. This mess is probable done by all the people not using towel which is not clean at all! Leaving their nice and sweaty traces on benches... maybe it is time to educate your customers... By the way the wifi is not working for some reasons.... The icing on the cake was the steam room... have you been in, if you are not sick and your noise breathes fresh air then just open the door and it should be enough... it is disgusting... really!!! Anyway I was very disappointed because I could not even take a shower... it was tooo much for me. I think it is time to close this place for a deep cleaning because hygiene does it for you...

Negative experience: Came here with the intention of signing up. Had been to virgin active and thought it was a bit expensive so came here thinking it would be more convenient and affordable. Inside was dark and kind of musty smelling. Not a lot of variety in terms of classes (about the same amount as a much smaller gym I used to go to). The gym was teeming with teenagers with not a lot of machines, felt very loud & claustrophobic. Locker rooms looked quite outdated and cramped. Had a girl shove past me whilst walking around. That told me everything I needed to know about the clientele here. However, I was willing to overlook that given the gym’s location and convenience. Interacting with the staff member trying to push me to sign up was the nail in the musty coffin of this gym. I was guilt tripped and patronised for asking about the types of classes available and wanting a few days to think it over. Not only did membership cost $28 a week for 12 months plus an $85 joining fee (I know many people who are members of this gym and they pay nowhere as much), they kept stressing how it was a premium gym (which it was anything but) and kept trying to sell me PT sessions. The next morning I went straight to virgin active and signed up for 12 months on the spot. Sure it’s more expensive, but it is actually worthy of being called a premium gym with the amount of facilities and classes available, the staff are so nice and I have had an amazing time so far. If you are looking for a gym membership, please shop around!

Fantastic experience: Gym has a good vibe. Pool is a plus and the fact that is 24/7 is really handy. I recommend Matt Wellington as a personal trainer. His sessions are dynamic and keep on challenging me. He is supportive and taught me effective exercises that I can do it on my own.

Fantastic experience: I’ve trained at many FF gyms and this gym is one of my favourites. Good machines, plenty of racks for squats, deadlifts etc. the pool is a good addition for the gym. The steam room is awesome, although some manners form meme era would be nice but hey that’s pretty standard across most gyms.

Negative experience: There is always sand in this pool, most visitors don’t care about pool rules, I saw an Asian woman jumping into the water in her dress! Yes! Summer dress! Thank you that without shoes... most visitors don’t put swim caps on despite the special announcement. Also all the time you will have to face with someone’s hair in the water. Most people don’t wear thongs and jump with dirty feet it seems ( floors there are far away from shining). Despite it is a sport pool some parents and not only take balls with them to play disturbing other swimmers. This is amazing! Children: I understand that FF wants more money but you never know how many lines will be occupied by kids because official schedule almost never(!!) meet the reality! After all, you will always see quite adult boys in the change room. They will run around you without underwear and sometimes even staring at you with interest)) some boys are over 6 and 7 years old! Meanwhile there are private cabins which are never used by parents with boys over 6 years old ( yes, at this age children know the difference between women and men but who cares)))) This swimming pool looks like children one! Plus very dirty* It is always full of children! And this is just a half of their mess! I have never ever seen anything like this in other countries.

Negative experience: A great temple to the impersonal and money hungry empire of the modern fitness industry, a team of incompetent and overpaid bobbleheads who have no training or understanding of customer service or customer focus. I'd rather be an anaemic diabetic than give any money to the bloodthirsty shills who run this joint. 2 'free visits' is all it took before I was signed up twice for their mailing list, calling list, texting list and on the second visit I was told by a 'Jarrad' who clearly took an extra dose of testosterone that morning that it was not 'normal' to be given a 5 visit free trial, despite having a card said otherwise and that I needed to fork out not just to be able to visit the gym for the rest of my 'trial' but also if I wanted to visit after hours?! The facilities are otherwise acceptable, I've seen worse from other franchise gyms in terms of etiquette and facilities, I'd probably give it 6/10 if it were a private gym that didn't have such intentionally laborious jargon all throughout their terms and contracts with the very clear and overstated goal to make as much money from you possible without you being able to do anything about it. Edit: be wary of the other reviews, especially if they have only reviewed this joint. I'd hazard a guess they have financial connections to this establishment.

Fantastic experience: Great gym with friendly staff. Had a personal training session with Matt Wellington. I'm new to the gym and Matt was very helpful in explaining the set out and taking the time to assess my fitness and create a workout suitable. He has helped put a plan in place to get me where I want to be in the future

Negative experience: Sales staff and team members unprepared, do not listen to the customer, misrepresent information, do not know how to solve anything, only deceive efficiency. When I went to close my contract within the specified time, I was fined. I lost time and money accepting mistakes and not employees solution. I do not recommend

Fantastic experience: Fitness First, Dee Why is well laid out, always clean and tidy and equipment is mostly returned to stations by other members. Staff are friendly and approachable. My personal trainer is Matt Wellington. Matt is friendly and approachable. Matt is polite, punctual and offers the right level of advice, support and encouragement. I would highly recommend Fitness First, Dee Why and Matt Wellington as a personal trainer.

Fantastic experience: Great friendly gym and had two great PT sessions with Matt. He understood what I wanted to work on and really tailored and focused my exercises on this, which will definitely help me work towards my fitness goals.

Fantastic experience: I recently had 2 personal training sessions with Matt, who I could highly recommend to anyone. 3 yrs ago I had a herniated disc, which still bulges now. This year I am determined to compete in triathlons again, so my main goal is to strengthen my core, back and glutes. Matt knew just what I needed and he gave me exercises which targeted these areas, whilst not affecting my lower back. Brilliant trainer, you won't be disappointed.

Negative experience: I had really bad experience in trying to cancel my membership at fitness first.The staff are very non negotiable, saying several times that I m the responsable for the contract time. They ve suggested me to transfer to someone, but its also very hard coz there r so many conditions applied to this. Dont make it so hard guys, is really bad, and not gonna retain clients to your business. Very disappointed. I refuse myself to transfer my current membership. I just have bad things to say about this gym

Fantastic experience: Great gym! Amazingly friendly and helpful staff. Matt has been amazing in helping me regain lost fitness post injury. His advice and constant checking in has kept me motivated and achieving the goals that I have set.

Fantastic experience: Amazing PT Dan helped me achieve my goals in just 3 months I lost 15 kgs. Training with Dan regularly gives me the motivation to workout harder and push myself to the maximum without injury. Dan is so warm and friendly, it makes every training session fun and enjoyable. Dan also knows how to mix my training up and keep it exciting and new. I look forward to the next PT session every time.

Fantastic experience: Matt is a killer trainer in the best possible way. He's joined me on my journey to quitting smoking and undoing years of neglect. I've only had two sessions with him and with his advice on food I have already shed 2kg. Looking forward to what results six months to a year will bring with Matt.
