Negative experience: Reception staff and trainers are excellent. Unfortunately, FF Market St continues to decline. Broken urinals and mould in showers are inexcusable, as is broken hand dryer. Insufficient number of clocks. Clocks on tvs are too small and disappear when showing ads, making it impossible to time sets. Broken tvs, rowers need servicing, ... 2 December 2024 - Urinal is still blocked after 3 weeks. Clearly important matters of health and safety (and basic hygiene) are not being addressed "as quickly as possible to ensure a better experience moving forward".

Fantastic experience: While a little bit smaller than other Fitness First gyms around the CBD, the huge windows, location, and spacious yoga room more than make up for it, and there's no lack of equipment. Have found the staff to be really friendly and helpful, and would definitely recommend!

Negative experience: Recently had a man inappropriately touch himself while staring at me in change rooms at 5AM THURS 10/10/24. I have contacted gym twice about this - been over 24 hours with 0 response from manager. AVOID THIS GYM.

Positive experience: I went to fitness first platinum as a casual guest. I found the staff rude, upon entry unwilling to help and felt like they hated their jobs. Classes and equipment were average, nothing special but nothing too disappointing.

Positive experience: This gym is considered quite large in the city. It has beautiful views and modern equipment, although I think there could be more equipment. I still highly recommend it because the space is very spacious!

Negative experience: The most horrible customer experience you can ever imagine. Don’t sign up for their memberships as they specifically don’t cancel them when you inquire it and keep charging the membership fees. Your email will be left unreplied and they will refer to terms and conditions even tho you came prior in person to cancel it and they didn’t provide you all details. No customer service at all! Contacted club manager Alyna but never got any reply back. They don’t follow even on simple request to contact the members.

Negative experience: Possibly the worst Fitness First in NSW. Locker failures (which lasted months, maybe years) have been resolved by now requiring you to bring your own padlock. Work out like it's 1999! Unsympathetic and condescending lady on front desk just adds to the experience!

Fantastic experience: Great gym to go for a workout. Spacious, machines are relatively new and there is heaps of equipment. Sometimes messy during 24/7 times but completely understandable as during staffed hours is kept tidy. I would only comment on the location and space given between some machines as it could be better. Most of the times the space is a bit odd and you can clash but nothing that it can’t be fixed.

Positive experience: Great facility and location….could use a good cleaning particularly in the men’s lockers. 12/12/24 update still no improvement in the men’s locker room. Strong smell of urine and rubbish everywhere. Urinals are broken or leaking very often.

Fantastic experience: Facilities and equipment are always ordered and clean, the staff are generous and attentive to every need, and I always am made to feel that whatever I have to say is important to them. Special shout out to the receptionist Grace, who brings a much needed touch of warmth in her profession. The PTs are all very friendly and are always happy to share much needed information regarding form and fitness goals. Highly recommend this gym to anyone, beginners and veterans alike.

Positive experience: I’ve only been going for a week but I go every day. I love it. There’s so much equipment compared to my old gym and it’s really quiet after 8pm. I’ll definitely stay at least 12 months but likely much longer.

Positive experience: The bathrooms could be cleaner and updated. It's always busy, and you often have to wait for equipment, I think given their membership numbers/attendance levels, they should reconfigure the layout to make room to add more of the most popular equipment.for example, the foyer area seems a bit oversized for being so sparcely furnished. I used to attend a Goodlife gym in Robina, they sold MuscleChef meals and had a microwave and sitting area, which seemed to be a better use of the space. I have gone quite late in the evening and still end up waiting for equipment multiple times in my session, while I would rather a quicker session anyway, with the limited parking time it becomes cost prohibitive to stretch out a session too long. They have refreshed the padding on some of the equipment, which I appreciate, as it wasn't in great condition when I first started going, but while it's better now, if I were closer to an EMF gym I would probably go there, they have stunning facilities. Also, I like colder water and none of the drink stations supply chilled water, I heard room temp is better for you, but I don't care, I don't like not having an option for colder water. I don't have any reason to interact with the staff, besides a greeting when I enter, but they seem nice. I haven't noticed their trainers taking over half the equipment for one training session, which can be really annoying, so it's good that they seem respectful to other patrons. I would feel comfortable approaching the staff if I needed to.

Negative experience: 24hr access is unavailable "indefinitely" with no warning. They closed my old 24 hr gym in barangaroo, now I can't go to any 24hr location which is at all decent. If 24hr access isn't reinstated in a week I'm cancelling my membership (I've been with the gym for 10yrs) and I've talked to alot of other people who are too. Lockers have been broken for years, equipment id always broken and not fixed for a long time.

Fantastic experience: I’ve liked every minute of using their one day pass. Arthur the young man who showed me around is knowledgeable and helpful. Fitness first as a franchise, could probably consider creating a nation wide pass for those who travel around Australia. It’s now the way of most people’s lifestyle so hopefully they will have it. Please let me know when you do.. Otherwise this gym at Market st is one of the best ones I’ve visited. Clean, spacious and lots of privacy.. I loved the turbo shower in the steam room especially. On the side note: Being a place where lots of people go to de-stress, it’s understandable that majority of the reviews on here are people actually feeling upset with themselves, hence the need to complain about everything.

Negative experience: Non of the lockers have worked for 2 years now, it seems the same problem is happening in the other fitness first gyms. They keep lying and saying they will fox them, all lies don't believe them. Hygiene is getting more poor as well. They take money and won't upkeep the gyms. Don't go with them

Negative experience: After 5 years, I’ve cancelled my membership and I would recommend you don’t sign up. This is supposed to be a Platinum location but it’s not even offering working and clean amenities. 95% of the men’s lockers have been broken for more than a year and every question or complaint submitted has gone nowhere. The showers have also not been cleaned in months. Some of the showers are simply broken but most smell and look disgusting. I would consider staying if the senior management team at Fitness First communicated well and provided timelines on when renovations would happen. The local team have been left in the dark. You can see the other reviews of this gym feel the same way. This is a good location and the workout equipment is great but after a year of the local team saying “we’ve escalated this up to management and we’re hoping it will be soon”, I’ve had enough. Hopefully management will listen to the membership cancellations.

Negative experience: Reason for 2 stars: Men's showers, locker area needs a lot of work - the lockers haven't worked now for a very long time and there are random locker doors sprawled over the place. The showers aren't that clean. The gym area is great, good amount of squat racks and equipment and love that it has a sauna/steam room. Would also be great if the Sauna was fixed up a bit as the timber is loose and flakey.

Negative experience: After a long break from this club I passed by today to replace a faulty membership card, instead I was faced with ignorant and disrespect. The club not only suffer with some bad staff, it also been experiencing lockers technical issues since before the pandemic. There was maybe 5 members on the gym floor training , half of the lockers are either damaged or locked! We may need some clarity here , do members lock their personal gear there leave and go ? We really hope that this club will be looked after and that members will be at least faced with a great smile and treated with respect.

Fantastic experience: A smaller gym compared to other fitness first establishments in town but has a certain vibe to it. A member of this gym for over a year now, can not recommend it highly enough. Staff, Personal Trainers are all amazing.

Negative experience: TERRIBLE, DO NOT SIGN UP. over 12 months and the lockers not fixed, spent around 15 minutes trying every possible locker and it’s either ripped appart or missing the connecting lock, I have sent emails and never got a response. FIX THE LOCKERS/ DO NOT SIGN UP

Positive experience: Great facilities in a large open space. Four stars because the showers in the Men’s locker always need work, the place is rarely polished clean like the inner city spots, and the pool is a bit danky. Still, easy to get your workout on in and usually not too crowded.

Negative experience: Before writing this review, I sent an email to the club a week ago and have not had a response so hence my review now. I can see I'm not the first to comment about this but more than half the lockers are broken, don't lock or have doors ripped off! Is something going to be done about this? Where is the urgency of ensuring you are providing platinum services as this is surely not platinum level. And back to my email I sent last week, I'm not sure why it's so hard to communicate and respond to customers, especially when they are giving you feedback for improvement. Such poor customer service and disappointing overall.

Negative experience: Nice enough when you’re paying the gym. If you happen to have a change in circumstance, change your number or leave the country… they will let your account run up and up and then give it to debt collectors to chase down before even emailing you to settle the bill. Absolute lack of effort attempting to get in touch. Be warned.

Negative experience: The gym is ok but now we have to pay fortnight a minimum amount when you freeze the membership and if you cancel you have to paid THE 90% of all pending instalments you have. Fantastic experience: Decent gym, what you expect from FF. Plenty of squat racks, horrible music and clean/ fancy showers. Most trainers don't annoy you; they're older and more experienced. I'd join if I worked nearby and had the $$

Negative experience: I joined the gym with the intention to train at the Market Street club over the weekends. Today was my first day there and I discovered that they don’t have warm water and the steam room and sauna doesn’t work. Do they turn it all off over weekends? I will give it one more go and if there is still no warm water over weekends then I will opt-out before my free pass runs out. At my previous gym the facilities DO work over weekends. If you intend to join the gym start off with the month-to-month membership so that you can easily get out of it again if it turns out to be a bad decision.

Negative experience: Very rude staff. I was making a decision between FitnessFirst and Virgin. So tried out FF first. The staff I was in touch with was called Kate. She started with being very pushy. When I told her my experience was not great she became extremely rude and hung up my call when I request to talk to the manager. It makes sick when people are only nice to you because they want to make profit from you. When they see the chance become slim they become completely different. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Update: Copy and paste the same response to all the review without any investigation. That will not help your club.

Positive experience: Missing doors on lockers. Out of those having doors, I managed to find working locker from 4th attempt. Guys, just don't call it Platinum. Call it Cast Iron and charge accordingly.

Negative experience: Been a member for some time now. The gym recently underwent a refurbishment of the flooring which was a very nice upgrade. The gym is quite spacious and the staff are very friendly. Some of the equipment is a tad outdated but besides that the facilities are all in good order. Since last posting, for well over 6 months now the gym has been undergoing an overhaul for its lockers. What that means, is that.. They're all broken and you can't use them, for a gym that is of their 'Platinum' tier to have one of the most basic services for a gym rendered useless for half a year is completely unsatisfactory.

Positive experience: Club refurbishment is decent with new lifting platforms. Decent selection of machines and plenty of benches, however a number of dumbbells are looking very beat up and some feel very shakey and loose. Biggest personal issue is that there seems to be no enforcement of towel policies during staffed hours and all too often people won't even wipe a machine or bench down after use without a towel.

Negative experience: I tried to cancel my membership late last year and was convinced to just keep it going for free for a little while in case I did want to use it again in 2021 - which I accepted. While they did nothing wrong I am now wanting to cancel again and had to wait nearly 40 mins to get onto them again to cancel only to be told that I have not 1 but two months of payments to make to now cancel. My message is - when you want to cancel, do not fall for any "sweet deals" just cancel - you will only end up losing more money.

Negative experience: Guys please be careful Fitness First has fully charged me while my membership was frozen as I was waiting for the confirmation of my membership cancellation. Fitness First is charging me for the services that it is not providing to me (24/7). I asked to cancel my contract and in meantime that they are finalizing the cancellation process, they suggested that we freeze your membership to not be charged. However, I just noticed they are taken the money from my account. They did not respond to my email as I was following up my membership cancellation. Before that they said we will charge you 30% (due to COVID-19) extra for cancellation. I disagreed and said you are not providing the service that I am paying for and now you want to get more money? It is ridiculous. It is a shame that in such unprecedented situation, Fitness First charges the customer for the service that is not providing and even threatens for extra fees upon cancellation. very very poor customer service

Negative experience: Not enough machines, heaps of wasted space. I know there is social distancing and all but still, In my opinion they have not utilised the space they have to provide their customers with the most efficient workout machines/accessories . Most annoying was There is not enough cable machine accessories. They only have one or 2 of each handle but they have 4 cable machines. I’ve been to smaller gyms that had much better utilisation of space and provided their customers with better features and more accessories. The personal trainers have a chip on their shoulder. The gym space was a mess, plates all over the place, dumbbells not in pairs. The staff i saw did not tidy up the mess. I didn’t like it.

Negative experience: Worst customer service I’ve seen in years! Bernadette a very rude manager that caused a scene and blocked me of going to a booked class. No previous communication were sent. She cancelled the class for everyone to proof her point. When chatting to reception they were indifferent and made me sign a form. Terrible club!!

Negative experience: Moved overseas and tried to cancel my membership with Paul. Said I needed a stat dec even though I provided my flight details. Have emailed Dave Schwab multiple times over the past month to cancel my membership as the contract finished in April with NO RESPONSE. Very unprofessional. I know gyms are closed, but don't say you'll reply and 3 weeks go by without a response.

Negative experience: False advertising. This was outside today though they refused to honour the $0 start up fee.

Negative experience: Aside from 2-3 running machines usually being unplugged, fans not being turned on and the soap and shower gel being rotten it's not a bad gym.

Positive experience: Overall great gym for city dwellers and workers looking for a quick workout on their work breaks. Great fairly new equipment. They are great with the variety of equipment too. The bathroom/change room facilities are decent too and fairly clean. But I think the steam room should be separated for both male and females (its a combined one) and just not cool. Some of the PT's can get pushy though if you let them. Expect it to get busy around lunch time. Great location near darling harbour.

Negative experience: I’m so angry that I pay over $1,200 a year for a platinum membership when today there were 5 running machines, 3 bikes and 2 cable machines out of order. The bikes have had out of order signs on them for more than 3 weeks. It’s a bloody joke.

Negative experience: This is a very gay friendly gym. Which is a beautiful thing in terms of tolerance and equality however the male patrons seem to think it’s ok to proposition straight men in the bathrooms, stare at them getting changed and spend awkwardly long amounts of time naked in there for no apparent reason. This has happened to me twice at this gym now and I’ve managed to keep my cool but I think it is unfair. It is not behaviour straight men could perpetuate in the women’s bathroom is it??. I will be sticking to alternate fitness first branches going forward.

Fantastic experience: I initially went there on the recommendation of my daughter and was really impressed by the light and spacious ambience of the main workout and group session areas...Expansive views and natural light make such a positive difference to the experience,c with many gyms that are entirely closed-in and artificially lit. The location is brilliant and has perfect accessibility for pre, lunch-time or post work,work-outs. The staff I experienced were friendly, knowledgeable and willing to patiently explain new equipment and techniques. Thanks Market Street FF...Excellent!!!

Fantastic experience: Love the gym and the location. The staff are super helpful, friendly and supportive. I've been to a few of the classes here and they were awesome! Also....can't go wrong with the sauna after an epic workout!

Fantastic experience: Fitness First Market Street is one of the best Fitness First I have been to. The staff are consistently friendly and the natural sunlight that seeps into the gym creates a warm atmosphere during the day. There are large windows that provide breath taking views of the Pyrmont bridge during both morning and night. I have been training at this club for the last 12 months and have no intention of changing that anytime soon!
