Stirling Leisure Centre - Leisurepark Balga: Opinions
Fantastic experience: I signed up for a membership There the staff There was super friendly and helpful the customer service was excellent
Negative experience: Please read entire review. I am a disability carer and since January 2023 I have been taking a blind client here. When I first took on this client, I had a "buddy" shift with another carer to show me the needs of my client and how to care for him. Because he is blind, I was told by the carer to generally only put him on the treadmill and exercise bike, presumably because he can hold on to something. During this buddy shift, the carer did his own workout while the client was in the gym and encouraged me to do a workout while I am there with the client, since we are in the gym for around 2 hours and later use the pool for around 1 hour. My client, while on the treadmill, naturally holds onto the hand grips and is also tied to the emergency cord that instantly stops the treadmill if the user falls too far behind on the treadmill. For the first 10 or 15 minutes or so, I am on a treadmill next to him and then afterward I do my own workout and occasionally return to check on him and ask if he wants water and also to move to the exercise bike. My client's footing/balance is adequate enough to walk unassisted and does not leave the treadmill unless instructed to by me. I had done this without issue from January to late February until one day I was approached by a staff member and was told I could not do my own workout while my client was there and that I would have to be close to him to ensure his safety. I asked to speak to the manager. I told him about the emergency cord and the fact that he holds onto the handles, but was given the same response. He said that I would need to constantly be observing my client so that if any accident would occur, I would be able to assist him quicker. I thought this was strange as I had not been told this 6 or 7 weeks ago when I started and I have already taken safety precautions for my client and there is nothing more I can do to prevent accidents from occurring. While in the bathroom with my client, I overheard a person talking to the manager, complaining that I was not giving my client enough attention. After exiting the bathroom, I saw that this person was another gym user. It occurred to me that there probably wasn't a rule against what I was doing and that the manager wanted to keep this customer happy. I thought about the situation and while still not fully agreeing, I understood the point of view of the gym manager. I took the feedback onboard and the next time I was there and decided to move the gym chair/bench (the ones with wheels on it) right next to my client's treadmill so that if any incident were to occur, I could respond quickly. I am roughly the same distance to my client as I would be if I was on a treadmill next to him. However, I was approached by gym staff again and was told that I would still need to be on a treadmill next to my client the entire time. I saw this as very strange and unreasonable and did not comply with their request. The manager was again called and again, did not budge on his position. However this time he said the gym chair/bench (put in an upright position) was a trip hazard. I extended my arms to show that there was enough room for people to walk around me, but he ignored it and continued with his request. I was told that the 7 seconds or so that I spent to bring weights to the chair was unacceptable and unsafe for my client. I was baffled. I was also told that the gym chair was not supposed to be there despite that it was only about 2.5 metres from all the others. I asked to see their policy regarding this but instead was told that I could be shown the safety hazard policy. Since he was not willing to accept my compromise of doing my workout very close to the client, he called security to escort me and my client out. I was left with no choice but to leave. Awful.
Fantastic experience: Love this place. Friendly staff and clients. Everytime is a good time that makes you feel great. Gym 25m heated main pool and extra walm exercise pool. Fairly priced great value.
Positive experience: Good
Fantastic experience: A amazing place
Positive experience: Kid-friendly pool. Most lanes are reserved, and the space is not particularly spacious for adults.
Positive experience: Kid-friendly pool. Most lanes are reserved, and the space is not particularly spacious for adults.
Negative experience: Poor management After playing the kids with 3 tyre bike for 2 hours, they realized that it is unsafe. No sucrity or receptionist stopped us at the door. This is not the first time happened here but this first time I am reporting it. Similar incident happened in the past as well. When I tried to challenge about the rule, person I.mposing the rule was just laughing at me as I am joker at BALGA LEISURE.
Negative experience: Dirty change rooms, 2 accessable change rooms showers have only cold water or not working, no shower curtains or mirrors.
Fantastic experience: A very warm and welcoming place. The gym is very modern and the atmosphere is very accepting of whatever level of fitness you are at. Membership includes access to pool. Absolutely will utilise the pool also once my cardiovascular improves a bit. 55/smoker and not been physically active for 10+ years, a challenge is ahead of me. I feel motivated because the atmosphere is so welcoming...
Negative experience: Not impressed. Decided to do laps early first thing Sunday morning and just ten laps into my usual, I get asked to give up the use of my lane because in minutes the guy will be giving swimming lessons. Really disappointed why I had to give up my exercise. No signs up anywhere to say the lane was reserved for swimming lessons. Unprofessional and exceptionally rude. They should have used the common area to give swimming lessons where there's less people. Not kick someone out of their lane for no good reason
Negative experience: Trusted this place with my 3 year old son while I used the gym, my son came home telling me emma from the Creche called him lazy , Overheard a few other comments she made to kids too that I wasn’t happy with, avoid Creche with all costs , my son was terrified and begged me not to bring him back and he’s never felt that way in adult Creche or school facility
Negative experience: Need to accept new payment methods other than direct debit
Fantastic experience: Great place and kids just love this place.
Fantastic experience: Fab facilities:)
Positive experience: Overall facilities are good and gym is good enough for off-peak times . 1-star less due to suffocation in swimming pool and ventilation isn’t good enough for oxygen. I have been to other Stirling leisure swimming pools but Balga one really has issue with air flow inside it. It also smells a bit due to it!!
Positive experience: Very busy leisure centre, pools are not adequate size to support the influxes of people coming here as Perth has had a massive population growth. The hydrotherapy pools are very small for the number of people seeking the service stirling offers. I thought the therapy pool would be a lot better than what is there. The main/lane pools are not enough to support all the classes there from personal swimming lessons for school children.
Positive experience: Go here for badminton the courts and old but still good and there's seating for spectators. Also affordable $35 for 2hrs
Positive experience: Leisure 25m Pool was good, temp comfortable, change rooms look bit worn but were OK. Staff was lovely. Nice to see lockers available too.
Positive experience: The swimming pool had a nice layout, but unfortunately, the pool areas weren't very clean. Also, a few women were a bit rude, which affected the overall experience. It's important for the pool management to address cleanliness and ensure a friendly atmosphere for visitors
Negative experience: The girl in the front desk was very aggressive this morning stopping us that i tagged my wife's electronic key thing, instead of my son's for his swimming lessons. Aggressively talking to me like she caught criminals. Rude, not exeptable. We pay her wages and we also paid for the swimming lessons.
Fantastic experience: Stirling Lesure Center
Negative experience: Not even worth one star! Extremely rude with nonesense requests. They have no manner and trianing is a must for them.
Fantastic experience: Great gym and pool. Highly recommended
Negative experience: Rudeness and impolite admin team with new management. Unfortunately never been like this. Great pool and always been great, but I don’t know what is going on with new team.
Fantastic experience: Lifeguard helped me not to drown
Fantastic experience: Nice pool for the kids, not too crowded all the time. Wish City of Stirling gives us more passes though
Fantastic experience: Great pool for the entire family. I'll go there 3-4 time a week to swim or to the gym. The kids have their swimming lesson once a week and can access to the pool anytime with their pass. The membership fees are low. Between $50 and $66 per month per person.
Positive experience: Great place for the kids. Not huge, but well priced.
Fantastic experience: My kids loved it.
Fantastic experience: Very good place to swim around
Negative experience: Swimming lessons is good, but the showers in the ladies are so weak it’s freezing in winter and very hard to wash the shampoo and conditioner out of your hair. They need upgrading.
Fantastic experience: I like this pool and complex. Great facilities and nice group of people. I go regularly maybe 5 to 6 times s week.
Negative experience: Couple small pools and nothing else no cafe or anything charge $12.50 for myself and 4 year old son can go to Craigie pool for $6.50 for both of us pool twice the size cafe ect
Fantastic experience: The staff here and amazing. My toddler attends the crèche while I work out at the gym and the best thing about it, it’s free with your membership. I absolutely appreciate this facility, it’s played a massive part of my fitness journey.
Fantastic experience: The hot tub was really good and the pool was very well.
Positive experience: I thoroughly enjoyed my time in the hydro pool
Positive experience: fantastic for the hydrotherapy except for the ramp has stairs in it
Negative experience: Good place only thing is the “lifeguards” attention/ awareness and care is horrific. At one point there was only 1 visible and even then she was hidden away in la la land. Currently there’s two chatting, ones back is turned away from the people, not even paying attention to what’s going on, and the here’s another few having a good laugh behind the window in the office. This is absolutely shocking. Yes it’s a smaller pool but it only takes seconds. I hope they see this review and make some changes.
Positive experience: great swim
Negative experience: rude workers
Fantastic experience: Please to anjoy and relax friendly people
Fantastic experience: Nice place for kids to swim in hot weather
Negative experience: I will rate this 0 because there is no privacy when changing
Positive experience: Pool renew, remake, refurbishment us happening 'for several months'
Fantastic experience: Great place for entertainment. Staff are very friendly
Fantastic experience: Fantastic staff very friendly and helpful even after my surgery a young girl helped me with my hair
Negative experience: The complex needs serious maintenance. Leaking front entrance, roof leaks into the main basketball court, which is a major hazard if people are playing.
Fantastic experience: Loved the lazy river and spa. And indoor swimming area. Good shower facilities.
Fantastic experience: The kids love coming here and love the outdoor water play area. The new shade sails are brilliant!!
Positive experience: It has a gym and heated pool it's a great little centre
Fantastic experience: Lovely pool and leisure facilities - clean and well maintained. Spoilt to have this nearby!
Positive experience: Go here for swimming, love our teacher Nicole! It's not too busy where we go for lessons easy to get around.
Positive experience: Lovely staff and very helpful, the pools are very clean, however the toilets are disgusting. No cafe in pool area.
Fantastic experience: I have been member for many years and I have been very happy with the service, classes, trainers, price of the membership and what this complex offers. Definetly 5 stars
Positive experience: Most staff are nice except for a few. Good pool and cheap for families.
Fantastic experience: Love coming here. Excellent facilities and the staf are ever so helpful. Victor set me a structured exercise that is showing good results and benefit to my health.
Fantastic experience: It was really helpful. Got to know the right postures. Really liked the techniques. Victor was really motivational person. Guided in right direction. Thanks Victor nice to meet you.
Fantastic experience: Highly recommend the adult learn how to swim course for anyone wishing to learn.Amazing staff and trainers, very helpful and supportive. 5 stars all the way!!
Negative experience: The place have a potential to be a good fitness centre, however, the customer service of some of the staff is very poor and rather offensive. Some staff they deal with you like you are using their own personal sport facility and they close the pool half hour before the closing time and some they have quite rude and offensive behavior... but this only apply to some and not all staff member... but enough to make you feel negative about the whole facility and consider cancelling your membership. improvement required to make this place a pleasent experience.
Fantastic experience: We’ve been going to the Balga Leisure Centre for 15 years. The staff are always friendly and helpful. Recently Victor at the gym devised a program for me which has definitely improved my well being I highly recommend Balga Leisure Centre for good value
Fantastic experience: Being an ole fella and well into retirement went there to get ready with some review lessons for beach swimming this summer before I get into the waves. The reception staff were very friendly and welcoming. The coach, a great young guy who obviously enjoys his work. I couldn't ask for more.
Positive experience: i used to go here when i was younger for swimming lessons. never made it past level 4 but i have fond memories of getting pythons and hot chips at the little cafe they used to have. unsure if its still there. went there a couple years back and it was closed, got a hotchoc from the vending machine thingy and there was a bunch of moths or something in it. still have good memories of the place though :)
Negative experience: HI ALL having a lovely day are we WELLL GUESS WHAT!?!?!?!. FRANKLY I have never BEEN more APPALLED by a business. customer service was terrible my Sonny Henry Bartholomew the third enjoy ice cream from simmos, HE got his head STUCK IN THE elevator for 3-5 business HOURS. VERY distasteful
Negative experience: Went there today and staff at counter was so rude and unfriendly.
Positive experience: Always plenty of space to swim .
Positive experience: Lovley sport centre my kids taking vac swim in this centre.
Positive experience: Any chance of opening the gym at 5am so the trades people of the world can use the gym in the morning before work....?
Negative experience: The Indian ladies such a joke. Rude, cranky and mocking when i was the first time do the swimming here.
Fantastic experience: I play badminton on sundays and have used the pool a couple of times. Good hygenic center with clean facilities.
Positive experience: Nice little pool.... reasonably priced....lazy river is good...no cafe so bring your own snacks and drinks
Negative experience: Cleaning of the tiled tables and chairs area is non existent. I came here for 2 weeks for vacswim and in that time the same maccas pickle mess was squashed into the tiles. And you wonder why people stopped going here...
Negative experience: Was denied from walking on the tradmill as I had no towel. I understand they have a policy. But I wouldnt be sweating on any gym equipment and they have spray and wipes thay I always use. Unreasonable.
Negative experience: The culture at balga leisure centre regarding people with disabilities and the elderly is poor. They give zero priority to the people that historically need the most help and are vulnerable. My client with a disability needs to get his exercise in the hydro therapy pool due to his condition, it needs to be done at a specific time as medications will leave him incapacitated after, similar situations as other elderly and injured patrons. For the past couple years, balga leisure centre runs kids swimming classes at the same time taking up 2/3 lanes, leaving 1 lane for up to 20 adults to get their activity done. Any complaints has fallen on deaf ears both in person or in writing on their website.
Positive experience: My daughter was very scared of water, but now she loves swimming bcoz of sharon... My lo just adores her. Now as we cannot go during weekdays we have different instructor he is good too. Overall love this place for swimming.
Fantastic experience: I joined Stirling Leisure Centre Balga recently. The staff very polite and cordial. I got the Gym walkthrough and workout routine designed by Victor, gym trainer. He is very patient to understand concerns and design the workout as per needs. He patiently explains all exercise again and again to get it better form.
Fantastic experience: I joined Balga Rec recently. I cannot thank enough to my personal trainer Victor. Victor is an amazing trainer he explained the fitness program with the best suited for me. I understand and easily followed him. He has a great knowledge and understanding of people. Thank you Victor you made fitness si much fun.

Fantastic experience: Fantastic staff and great recreation centre for our family. The kids have their swimming lessons here and my wife and I love laps or the gym. A good mix of equipment and positive fellow goers. It is great to feel welcome not just by staff but by our neighbours.

Positive experience: Nice little pool.... reasonably priced....lazy river is good...no cafe so bring your own snacks and drinks
Positive experience: My daughter was very scared of water, but now she loves swimming bcoz of sharon... My lo just adores her. Now as we cannot go during weekdays we have different instructor he is good too. Overall love this place for swimming.
Fantastic experience: It was great has a few pools change room cafe
Fantastic experience: My local gym and kids swimming pool. But some times during school holidays or swim lessons get crowded.
Positive experience: Had a lovely swim here on Sunday, the lifeguards were super nice and the price to get in was great! Would love to see some more things in the outdoor section of the pool area, maybe some shade and lounge chairs near the grass :)
Positive experience: Good
Fantastic experience: Good staff
Positive experience: Hydro pool is cold compared to other pools
Positive experience: Water is cold in swimming pool but gym is good enough for me
Negative experience: Been trying to call the number listed numerous amounts of time. Not sure if the number is broken or the reception staff are inadequate. Not even a voice message service is applicable. Don’t bother trying to call.
Positive experience: Its ok. Only problem is the cafe is closed so you cant buy any food or coffee while you are there
Positive experience: A good facility with a nice 25 m pool and solid group fitness schedule.
Positive experience: Good little pools needs some shade in the out door bit, swim classes are great
Fantastic experience: Great little community leasure centre. Family friendly and not overly busy for getting a swimming lane for laps.
Positive experience: Very good gym and pools, but unfortunately no spa/sauna/steam room
