Fantastic experience: Fitness First Hornsby is my local gym of many years, it has excellent facilities and a very welcoming and friendly atmosphere. The staff are always helpful and accommodating, ensuring you feel comfortable and supported. A special shoutout to Graeme, the Manager, who goes above and beyond to make us all feel valued and looked after. Negative experience: I decided to use the sauna here, but my experience was marred by two very loud patrons who wouldn't stop talking, despite the clear signs indicating that this is a space for relaxation and quiet. It was impossible to unwind with their constant chatter. One of them reacted rudely when politely asked to keep it down and even reported the issue to the front desk, where the staff unfortunately seemed to overlook their behavior. I really wish I had checked the reviews beforehand; this has been a thoroughly disappointing and frustrating experience.

Fantastic experience: I have been coming to this gym for almost twenty years. There are classes, experienced personal trainers, many fitness equipment, I can use the sauna and steam bath, and there are familiar faces everywhere.

Negative experience: Too many people, equipment always occupied, people don’t clean after themselves and the change room is very dirty. Front reception is also inpatient. lots of broken equipment too.

Negative experience: Poor Sauna Management at Fitness First Hornsby As a member of Fitness First for almost 10 years, I’m extremely disappointed with the management of the sauna at Hornsby Club. Despite a sign clearly stating it’s a relaxing zone and asking members to keep voices low, this rule is constantly ignored. People talk loudly, and when politely reminded, they become even louder and harass those trying to follow the rules. Fitness First, please enforce these rules to give members confidence in choosing your gym. Posting a sign isn’t enough—proper management is needed to ensure the sauna remains a relaxing space. Ignoring this issue will only harm member confidence. I raised this complaint two weeks ago, and no one has gotten back to me yet. It's disappointing that the gym treats customer complaints as if they don't matter. Please address this issue promptly

Negative experience: They always turned the sauna and steam room few hours before the stuff leave. We pay membership to use the whole facility, however, doesn’t feel worth it. Plus you will need to bring your own paddle lock here…but that’s fine, we are unhappy that we never able to use sauna!! Come on can’t they set up a time for sauna automatically turned off by midnight then?

Negative experience: I've used many fitness first gyms around Sydney. Checked out the reviews as I just recently moved up here so thought I'd see for myself. The bathrooms are absolutely disgusting! I've been a couple of times there now and still they are filthy with hair everywhere. Went into the sauna today and it stunk of sweat n body odour. The whole place stinks. Whoever is in charge needs to pick their game up & do something about it. By far it is the worst one I've been too. So disappointing.

Negative experience: Its really smelly club, you get noticed at the moment you step in the club. Even worse, Air condition is not working for last 2 weeks and no one knows when its going to be fixed! Awful service!

Positive experience: Visited just the once back in 2023 but it wasn't as nice as Willoughby so decided not to keep my membership after moving to the area.

Negative experience: I signed up for a 12-month contract but it wasn’t disclosed to me that the contract would automatically renew. To cancel, I had to provide 30 days' notice, during which I would still be charged. When I signed up I specifically asked if the contract would auto-renew and was told it wouldn't. Even after my 30-day notice period, I continued to be charged weekly for 6 months, with Fitness First claiming there was "nothing they could do." A similar issue happened to a friend, who was charged for 4 months after cancelling her contract, despite receiving written confirmation that her account had been closed. It feels like a total scam and money grab. I wouldn’t recommend Fitness First unless you're prepared to pay for much longer than expected and be met with "there's nothing we can do, sorry."

Negative experience: A decent gym but keep moving things around, like a stack of weights right in the middle of a walk way, blocking it which is a concern in case of fire or emergency.

Negative experience: I've been going to Fitness First in Hornsby for a few years now, while it is far from the worst gym in the area. There are still so many ways it could be easily improved. Much of the equipment isn't properly maintained, grips are broken, benches have the outer layer peeling off, some the cable machines don't feel properly lubricated and have a jerky motion, and quite often there are machines out of service. As others have said, it does not smell nice in the gym, probably due to bad airflow and I often go around turning the fans on when I start my workout. The internet service is horrible in the majority of the gym, due to being on the ground floor of the Westfield carpark. While this isn't a fault of the gym, I feel like an easy solution would be to offer free wifi to gym-goers. Doesn't have to be fast, just enough to load webpages or stream music. They've been getting the walls repainted the past week, which is nice, however I think I speak for most people when I say that money could've been more effectively spent elsewhere. Assuming it was several thousand dollars for the paint job, that would easily cover wifi throughout the gym, or properly maintained machines. Again, not the worst gym in the area, but it's disappointing that this is the best we in the Hornsby area have to choose from. If someone were to open a decent, large size gym, with a large variety of properly maintained machines, I can guarantee everyone in the area would flock to it, however for now this is all we have to choose from. The staff have always been friendly and helpful, it's just the venue and the equipment that needs some love.

Negative experience: UPDATE: if I thought the girls were rude at the gym, the new manager Graeme is even worse. Before he even spoke to me about what had happened, he ran straight to the girls and came back to me and said to me "If you want to have a LENGTHY chat at the front desk next time, speak to the girls on the break" I never went up to the front desk to chat to the girls! I went up to mention how rude they were. This guy was the most defensive ego driven guy I have ever met. He says that the old manager was terrible and that he was hired to make the place a better place. How can someone who doesn't want to hear out a complaint yet makes excuses for how rude his staff are. I guess the apple doesn't fall to far from the tree. He also told me that he didn't involved in personal matters, yet runs and tells a girl PERSONAL things from me without actually knowing ANY CONTEXT!!!! this guy is a joke. ANYWAY! I then asked to speak to his manager, which I never have received a call back. He was also so quick and happy to cancel my membership, as he has no desire to fix the gym. Disappointed that I had to leave Fitness First after 7 years due to how badly handled this small complaint was. Graeme, do better mate. You are the worst manager I have ever spoke to in my life and that's saying something..... as you said "good luck on your fitness journey" well mate, wish I could say the same to you "I have been going to this gym for over a year now and it used to be great. In the last few months the management has changed and a lot of new staff. The female staff members and the personal trainers have very mean girl energy and are extremely rude. I have started to get ignored when I come in and leave the gym, which I was always greeted. Even the personal trainers used to say hi now I just get up and down looks. Today I went to the front desk to mention this to one of the girls and it happens to be one of the personal trainers sister. I then was speaking to the new starter who happened to be an old friend and we were chatting at the front desk, when all of a sudden the girls sister goes “girls” to tell us to stop talking, what right does this girl have to tell ME to stop speaking when I do not work there!! I am a customer and I was having a chat to one of the only nice staff members there. I am honestly so annoyed and upset about this. I feel so awkward walking around the gym now, with not only having men staring and harassing me on the occasion to having rude stares from girls who work there. I have been a FF member since 2017 and have never in my life experienced such a horrible place. Especially that the place is an absolute mess, no paper towels in the bathrooms and never any free machines."

Negative experience: This gym is oversubscribed with very little regard for cleanliness, maintenance or basic hygiene! Unless you’re keen to wait extended periods for the privilege of using outdated equipment in a gym with poor ventilation, sub standard facilities, and management who don’t even care if you use a towel or not I would simply not bother!

Negative experience: The place stinks. As in smells awful. Most of the lockers are broken. There is mould in the change rooms. I wouldn't dream of using the sauna, steam room, or shower again. The risk of getting warts and ring worms is too high. It is also very crowded.

Negative experience: You need to change the address to simply Muriel Street. You are NOT at 10 Muriel Street, which is on the opposite side of the street. You are causing delivery issues to the real 10 Muriel Street as couriers see Fitness First in Google Maps as number 10, which it categorically is not. A complaint will also be made to Google over this misleading information, which may result in the listings being removed if not corrected.

Negative experience: I was quick to my interest after witnessing the bullying culture from the girls at the front desk. This was an upsetting first impression. A taller woman with brown hair, another blonde woman & Marta actively took turns mocking another staff member whilst she was absent from the club. Once they were done with their impressions was when they attended to me. Marta & I spoke and I had mentioned I was at Crunch. She was reluctant to ask if I knew this particular staff member, to which I responded yes. At this stage, it seemed I was her enemy lmao. I attempted to call the club manager to disclose this matter confidentially. I was unable to reach the manager as Marta had let me know he was in a meeting (I found out later that this was a lie) furthermore being told along the lines of “what ever you’ll need to tell the manager will go through me". It seems she refused my requests to avoid management involvement. As a former club manager myself, I'd be embarrassed in my staff if they acted such a way. Do better, Marta.

Negative experience: I’ve been going to gyms all over Sydney for the last seventeen years and this has got to be one of the most disgusting gyms. Hornsby FF is poorly ventilated with the air con not working at times. That’s not the only thing that doesn’t work, good luck trying to find a locking locker in the change room. The equipment usually stays broken for a while and the team are entirely not interested in anything but themselves. The etiquette in the gym matches the atmosphere with an over crowded environment with individuals never re-racking weights. Poor effort guys , avoid this gym if you can. And good look trying to quit the gym. Fitness first are horrendous at admin and will most likely screw up your accounts. End of rant
Negative experience: Terrible place with everything
Positive experience: I’m an ex-member of this gym. I didn’t love the gym layout, vibe and smell. It was gloomy and didn’t inspire me to come back. What I did love however and the only reason I’d sign up again would be the Body Jam classes by Michael. Each time I was amazed, Michael runs a top tier dance class. Michael has such a special talent in dancing, teaching and bringing the energy and positive vibes. I always looked forward to the classes and left so happy. I wish he did classes elsewhere!
Negative experience: Has turned into a dungeon, dark and worn. Musty” and “stale” which are the most accurate descriptors of what mold smells like. Surprised people still go to that gym

Negative experience: Beware keep your contracts, i specificly signed for 1 year coz I was leaving interstate. They avoided my phone calls and charged me 6 months over! The state of the gym isn't good it smells And needs more ventilation.

Negative experience: Men’s locker room is filthy, lockers are broken, gym stinks, machines are age old and most importantly management is irresponsive. Their fees is same as any good gym in the city though.
Negative experience: FIX THE LOCKERS!! Two thirds of the lockers are broken, nowhere to secure your valuables when it is even a little bit busy. The dumbbells are deteriorating, pieces of rubber falling off them when being used. Got a piece in my eye a couple of weeks ago!! Showers have mould all over the ceilings. Half of the back row of treadmills don’t work. Great example of a company that is happy to take your money and spend the bare minimum on customers basic needs.
Negative experience: The air quality is disgusting. My son needed to cancel membership because it is making him sick, they still want to try to gouge a cancelation fee.
Positive experience: It's long overdue for a facelift, especially the locker rooms. I don't know about the ladies, but the men's locker room and showers are really tired. Vinyl covering on some of the equipment seats is cracked and worn.
Negative experience: Pretty average gym. Couldn’t locate wipes for the equipment. Significant number of locker out of action, with signs up that they’re preparing to switch to a padlock system. Add in that they didn’t have any towels to hire, and haven’t for some time apparently. I personally feel that any effort to maintain a welcoming atmosphere in the clubs, or the assets themselves, has been falling off. It’s visiting clubs like this that make me wonder how long FF will continue to operate, though with how busy it was perhaps that end is still a while off. But it’ll be a painful ride down a quality drop off
Negative experience: Good equipment, but is the worst smelling gym with 90% of lockers broken.
Negative experience: Big gym but only have one spinning bike working. Other bulky bikes are not for spinning. Raised concern with the staff but got ignored.
Negative experience: For months now, 80% of the lockers can’t lock, nothing is getting done. Don’t know what they are waiting for.

Negative experience: Dirty, overcrowded gym. Stinky sauna. Besides you have to keep paying for 30 days if you want to cancel your membership - nobody ever warned me.
Negative experience: Unfortunately, the gym is very oversubscribed for its size. I tend to visit at very low peak times as I live just 2 minutes walk from the gym and can cherry-pick my visits. Even so, I get access to the single large cable pull machine perhaps 1 in 5 visits, and of three smaller cable machines, perhaps 1in 3 visits. Other machines are also crowded. Secondary issues of oversubscription are that machines are frequently out of order, and hygiene is mediocre (being your own wipes!). On the plus side, the classes are frequent, varied and well run, and staff do their best, given the challenges. Update: I just requested that the auto renew of my account be cancelled. I attend the gym during the 'quiet times' (very early morning, pre and post lunch, etc) and for last month have rarely been able to achieve my workout plan. The place is totally over subscribed, and the mood souring. Given there are alternative gyms nearby, I'll be switching as soon as my contact is up. Update 2. Given crowding and the fact cable machines do not have complete sets of handles, it is not uncommon for people to request to take ones you are using for your sets. Tonight, a group of boys simply took handles I was using in my set while I was grabbing water. It was clear I was still using them. So I had to cut my set 20min short. The toxic nature of the gym due to lack of space, equipment and hygiene is getting worse. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.
Fantastic experience: I love coming in on a Sunday morning for my session and seeing the lovely smile of Seth! He’s always so cheerful and helps motivate me for my session

Positive experience: 24/7 hours but the past 2 month has been closed in the morning twice already.
Negative experience: Don't be silly , don't sign any contract with this company and don't make headache for yourself. A completely unreliable and thieving company. I had a contract for two years. I used it for a while. After a while, I stopped using it because of the dark interior and lack of cleaning. I requested to stop but they told me you should be paid until the end of the contract. ended 8 months ago but after 8 months from two weeks before they started again withdrew money from my account. No email no contact nothing just withdrawal imagine they do for many previous customers and make a huge profit for company!!! I called They just passed me too each other .just say oh really I’m sorry its come from head office we let them know. this business is just stealing from other people's pockets really really untreated company.
Negative experience: Community is great - early mornings users are easy to workout around and friendly. Equipment is generally ok, but broken gear takes a while to get fixed. The problem happens when you cancel your membership! 5 weeks after cancelling ... so after their 30 days cancellation lag ... I had to spend over an hour on the phone to explain why my cancellation (documented in a series of email) was real and they really needed to stop charging me! Finally we were all agreed, I had cancelled and there would be no more fees. Then two weeks later they take more! Kindest thing to say is they are incompetent ... great pity that the staff team let down the place and the community that uses it! My plan had been to rejoin after the 6 months I need to have off ... but after the experience of dealing with the staff over a cancellation .... there is no way!
Fantastic experience: Just had my first PT session. My PT, Peter was so helpful, respectful and patient with me. Excellent customer service. Already looking forward to my next session next week.

Negative experience: Don't join this gym if you work a 9-5 job. Sure the equipment is nice, but it doesn't matter if you don't get to use it. The gym is packed during peak hours (unsurprisingly), but it's frustrating when it's the only time you can come to the gym and there's no space for you, or you have to wait 10-30 minutes for a machine or rack to open up. If you're the type to talk to strangers then you can shoot your shot and ask to share an area between reps with someone, but I wouldn't call this a silver lining as it's dependent on the community and not the gym itself. I'm leaving for a smaller gym as soon as I can.

Positive experience: Decent gym with a variety of equipment available for use. Sauna is nice too.

Negative experience: I called and mailed Fitness First to cancel my membership as I am in MacGregor ACT and the only fitness first is in Canberra which is a long way from MacGregor. I didn't get reply about my mail and neither my membership is being cancelled.
Negative experience: One of the worst fitness providers ever seen in my life … once you become member they been greedy stealing money from you.. if you go through death path of you life also they wont consider canceling you membership neither they will say they can cancel it so keep deducting money from your accounts… can anyone let me know whether i do have any organisation to sue against them … my condition is i had the premature critical condition baby and no family members to look after so the reason i moved to my relatives place where no any fitness provider around… even in this worst condition they are not canceling my account….
Negative experience: I am not sure if anyone cares about the problems of clients for this branch!!!! I just had a tour and ended up with another gym but still been charged with this branch!!!!! I have contacted the gym, explained and was supposed to refund by last week. Haven't heard back from them. Poor customer service, I wouldn't trust to give my bank account details to this gym!!!!!!!
Negative experience: Well equipped gym but has very poor ventilation, which leads to a constant stench of sweat. Difficult to have a proper workout with that level of stench.

Positive experience: This branch could do with extra ventilation and a deep clean. I was greeted with a strong stench of sweat and God knows what on my first visit. The stench cannot be escaped and the place is filled with it. Surely I am not the only one who is aware of this stench.
Negative experience: This is an organization where the left hand does not know what the right one is doing. My wife and I stopped going to Fitness First when the June 2021 COVID19 Lockdown started. They froze our fortnightly pre paid membership fees which were to be allocated to future use. We ended up cancelling both our memberships earlier this year. This was confirmed by them by email and also that they will refund our unused membership fees. Instead of giving us a refund, they have taken more money out of our bank account, and are still making more attempts to do so. Their debt collectors are relentlessly chasing my wife for membership fees incurred after their cancellation email was sent. My wife contacted Fitness First several times to sort this out, and all she gets is empty promises. This is absolutely shameful and it should stop, and should not have happened in the first place.

Negative experience: I joined the club in Dec and decided to go with the 3 months contract, I was surprised that after 3 months when I called them to make sure my contract is over I was told that a 28 days notice period was required, they charged me for another 4 weeks after my contract ended. not transparent, not fair.
Negative experience: Terrible communication. They just want your money. Yet another fitness first Hornsby customer leaving and going to F45 ( highly recommend F45)
Fantastic experience: This fitness first has a great atmosphere. All the staff are super friendly and the PTs always give me a wave or a good morning, even if I haven't done a PT session with them. They just know me from how long I've been going and see me around all the time. I love the body pump class instructors as they are fun and motivational, even though I usually do my own weight training sessions. Friendliest staff I've encountered at a gym always there to help. Facilities are always clean and well looked after/monitored by staff.
Fantastic experience: Great gym. I've previously held platinum membership and attended Market, Oxford and Bond St gyms in the past but FF Hornsby is perfect for a suburban setting. The gym has a good selection of machines, nice open floor space and good sized classrooms. The biggest benefit however is cheap 24/7 access.

Positive experience: The size of the gym compared to others which are located in shopping centers is fairy large. I visited the gym during COVID time so I believe it would be more crowded normally. The equipment were new and plenty to use. Change room can be cleaner.

Positive experience: I joined Fitness First earlier this year (leaving another brand). I signed via the Hornsby gym. Grace was friendly and professional in the signing up process, she answered all my questions and made me feel comfortable about my switch to Fitness First. As for the gym, it has everything you need. Being a busy gym, sometimes it can get a little messy or not as clean as I would like, which is the only thing that prevented me from giving a full 5 stars.
Negative experience: I''m moving to different state and wanted to cancel my membership. I reach out my local FF Hornsby, but they were not authorized to do so - - - - what they said and pass me another mail address. I sent mail to mention address about my membership cancellation but didn't recieve any response from them. Then i called and had a chat with them and again they ask me to go to my local FF. And when i went there, they did cancel my membership with few charges but without any confirmation or any mail regarding my membership. To cancel my membership they put me into maze game. Not professional at all. Never gonna have a contract base membership wit Fitness First. Thank You

Negative experience: Pretty disappointed to see that F45 members are still allowed to train out the front of their tenancy but the same consideration cannot be afforded to Fitness First Hornsby Members. It’s not fair and I will be cancelling my membership with Fitness First.

Fantastic experience: Clean and nice facilities. Warm and knowledgable instructors in the group class. Friendly and personable environment. I think this is my favourite FF branch (I've been to pennant hills and nth syd ones as well)
