Fitness enthusiasts enjoy a variety of facilities, including squash courts and a good selection of group classes at reasonable prices. The equipment and facilities are generally in good condition, providing ample space for effective workouts.
However, some reviews indicate areas for improvement. Goodlife Health Clubs Fitzroy: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Great gym. Always friendly and helpful staff and always clean. Enjoy it as my regular gym.
Thank you for your kind words! We're so glad you enjoy the gym and appreciate our friendly staff and cleanliness. We're happy to be your regular gym!
Negative experience: Enjoyed playing squash here as a casual. Then I made the mistake of agreeing to a membership they had offered 'First month free' within 10mins of court booking starting... They left it up to me to find an 18month minimum contract term hidden in the fine print. Since calling to cancel that sneaky membership within the cooling off period, then down grading to a 3 month fixed term membership, I fractured my ankle the next day during a squash game. Bad Omen? Well I've been met with excuse after excuse as to why they 'can't' cancel a 3 month membership. So disgusted by how the manager of this gym has acted since I stupidly signed on the dotted line.
Hello Sean, we are disappointed to read this and would love to look into your situation further to see if we can assist but we couldn't confirm your membership with just the first name provided in this review, do you mind please reaching out to us via Direct Message on Facebook or Instagram? Thank you.
Negative experience: Goodlife will sell you one membership plan and sign you up for another. Even after cancelling my membership iv been charged 30 dollars a week (double the agreed amount) for months.
Hello Eli, we apologise for the delay in getting back to you on this forum. We can see that a resolution appears to have been met already, but we have still passed your review onto the relevant team members to ensure your feedback is heard and to assess if there is anything further required. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to reach out to us via Direct Message on Facebook or Instagram if you'd like to discuss anything further. Thank you.
Fantastic experience: Love the gym and the sauna!

Positive experience: Good location and clean but doesn't have all the equipments you are looking for.

To support your fitness goals, we’d also like to offer you a complimentary personal training session, where we can introduce exercises that make great substitutes for any equipment you’re used to. Fantastic experience: Shoutout to Sophie, Aria and Iman for fantastic service. Couldn’t recommend the team or the gym more.

Negative experience: Goodlife Fitzroy tried to charge me an exit fee during a cooling off period for a new membership. I referred the receptionist and manager to their terms and conditions which neither of them had bothered to read. They were really dodgy in how they handled things.
Hi Louise, Thank you for getting in touch. We’re genuinely sorry to hear about your experience. We’ve shared your feedback with our team to ensure we make improvements. If you’d like to discuss this further, please feel free to contact us via social media. Thank you!
Negative experience: Thief’s, I signed a 12 month contract and they made me pay for months 12-18 as 6 of the months were during covid. I had since moved away from the area (the world doesn’t stop when in lockdown and my 12 month lease had expired). However they insisted I still owed 6 months, and they made me pay for something I couldn’t use. Pure theft and no human decency whatsoever.
Thank you for reaching out. We recognize that the COVID-19 pandemic brought unprecedented challenges and disruptions to daily life. Given that we were unable to operate for approximately eight months, we truly empathise with your situation. We’re sorry to hear that this experience caused you stress or inconvenience.
Fantastic experience: I would like to give a review on Goodlife Health Gym in Fitzroy Melbourne. I am a member at Goodlife in Perth with a membership that allows me to train at any Goodlife in Perth and Interstate. I would highly recommend the Fitzroy Goodlife gym to anyone who would like to join the Gym. I have met the Manager, and all the staff, receptionists and sales team. They are all so caring welcoming , friendly , professional and have exceptional communication skills. The music list they play is also so well chosen, it is uplifting and has a nice vibe! The gym has an amazing cleaner, very friendly and warm, he’s very thorough and the gym is always spotless and immaculately clean. All the equipment is in very good condition! As a bonus there’s a private sauna in the women’s bathroom which makes me feel more comfortable. Theirs is also a sauna and steam room in the mens which he loves. I love this gym and I am a very happy member!
Thank you so much for your fantastic review, Sonia! We're thrilled to hear about your positive experience at our club. It's wonderful to know that our team have made such a positive impression on you with their caring, welcoming, and professional attitude. We strive to maintain a clean and uplifting environment for all our members, and we're glad you appreciate our music selection and the cleanliness of our facilities. We're delighted to have you as a member and look forward to continuing to provide you with a great fitness experience. See you at the gym soon!
Fantastic experience: An always welcoming and friendly team at the reception. Not overcrowded and working equipment being always available. Well maintained facilities. All these encourage frequency of visits and persisting with a program.
Negative experience: They have a good selection of classes but this gym is SO run down. There is a broken hot tub which is boarded up with wood in the women's changing rooms. It's been there for over 8 years. Heaps of lockers are broken and hanging from their hinges. I had a membership a decade ago, then came back 8yrs later and was surprised that nothing had been changed/fixed/renovated. It's not too expensive, which makes it sort of okay... but jesus christ, it wouldn't be hard to fix it up a little. The foyer is an empty tiled room which no one spends any time in - just add some decorations.
Fantastic experience: From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed by the friendly staff who are always eager to help, answer questions and provide good encouraging advice. The equipment is in very good condition and well-maintained, providing an enjoyable workout experience regardless of background or goals. The facilities are kept clean, creating a hygienic and inviting environment. What truly sets this gym apart is the large space available to workout in and motivating atmosphere; whether you're a beginner or a seasoned fitness enthusiast. Highly recommend this gym to anyone looking for a positive and fulfilling fitness journey.
Negative experience: Treat kids bad
Negative experience: I recently joined Goodlife Fitzroy with high expectations, but unfortunately, my experience has been far from satisfactory. One major letdown was the cleanliness—or rather, the lack thereof. The equipment appeared to be in desperate need of maintenance, with visible wear and tear. The staff was rude and seemingly disinterested in addressing any of my concerns. Bur got a bunch of their irritating cold calls. Some machines were out of order, disappointing to see a fitness club of this caliber neglecting the basic needs of its members. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone seeking a quality fitness environment. There are better options available in the area that offer superior facilities, cleanliness, and customer service.
Positive experience: Desperately need to upgrade the antediluvian equipment that they Noah put on marketplace when the Ark landed on Mount Ararat.
Negative experience: The gym itself, has basically all you need, and I’m sure the classes are good too. The equipment is a bit old too, so not the most high tech, but anyway. Unfortunately I called up to cancel my membership. I knew of the cancellation cost as per my contract, however they kept trying to reel me in to try a different membership or come in for a free PT session. I understand that they probably have to do that as part of their training, but I clearly said I was not interested and just wanted to cancel my membership. I was then quoted my cancellation fee, PLUS paying for the rest of my 18-month membership. Which I said that there is nothing in the contract about me having to pay for the rest of my membership, and only the cancellation fee. But I was informed I had to pay up all that! I was then put on hold for a few minutes, then was told, oh actually you only have to pay the cancellation fee, which is $345. I told them that my cancellation fee is $295 for the type of membership I have. We were both reading the exact same contract, and I even read out what it said, and she also kept reading the same line, but saying it was $345. Again, I was put on hold, and then finally, she says ‘I’ve done some sorting out for you, and have pushed the cancellation fee down to $295 for you, how does that sound?’ Well, sounds about right as I’ve told her this the whole time. Finally able to cancel my membership. I understand perhaps she is undertrained, so not necessarily her fault. However, it caused me more stress than needed. And she didn’t apologise for stuffing me around either. Which would have been appreciated. I to be honest wouldn’t recommend this gym. You constantly get emails and text messages from them and they just don’t seem very helpful…
Fantastic experience: I like the positive atmosphere here. The staff are professional and kind.
Fantastic experience: Amazing Gym!!
Fantastic experience: Good gym, good range of equipment. The manager Dan is welcoming and well versed. Fit, strong and knowledgeable.
Fantastic experience: Great group classes with great instructors at a reasonable price, very convenient location with parking, equipment is a bit dated and free squash courts during business hours. Excellent value!
Fantastic experience: Awesome. Great vibe, nice surroundings and lovely staff.
Fantastic experience: Really good customer service by Jeet
Fantastic experience: Good value fitness centre with plenty of squash courts.
Fantastic experience: This is not my regular gym. Dropped in as I am in the area. Staff fantastic, very friendly and easy going. Lots of room and not very busy like my regular gym. Equipment needs upgrading but i still can do everything I want. Changing rooms clean with plenty of room. Steam & sauna rooms. Going back more often.
Fantastic experience: Great location with ample undercover parking. Had Luke as a PT for a little while and he set me up for success with his excellent communication, thorough explanation of how and why we do certain exercises and the constant push to do more. Just a shame it’s not a 24 hour gym
Fantastic experience: This was not my regular gym. I go to another goodlife. Walked in today and was ask nicely about a towel. I am so glad this gym is asking people to bring towel. I have been training for 21 years and I have seen enough to say everyone needs a towel... I didn't have a towel and inside of me buying a towel or not going to the gym the Manager gave me one on loan. Thank you
Fantastic experience: A good gym with all the essentials. Shame that the girls only have a steam room and not a sauna though. Lots of squash courts.
Negative experience: This is the worst gym I’ve ever joined. The staff are persistent in signing you to an overpriced membership. When cancelling a membership they continued to keep deducting for months after, to the point I had to block the gym from my bank. Even the bank knew of this gym as if to say they had blocked this business many times on other customers accounts. I can’t believe they are still running this scam, this needs to be further investigated. CALL OUT TO TRACY GRIMSHAW - A CURRENT AFFAIR!!! Please get your team on this.
Positive experience: Go there primarily to play squash, which serves the purpose. Gym Equipment is old but good . Sauna is useless. Hotter outside than in the sauna.
Positive experience: 5 good quality squash courts in good condition, flexible with time bookings too!
Fantastic experience: Julian is top tier!
Fantastic experience: I ve been using this gym more than 10 yrs. It's clean, organised with great staff
Negative experience: This gym stole money. I rang up and gave my 30 days notice but after the thirty days were up they kept charging me. I contacted them about it and they said that there was no record even though at the time, they said there was nothing else I needed to do. They then tried to get me to stay on in the gym which was obviously their plan all along, and I ended up losing out on over $60. They have also just tried to do the same to my friend but luckily I was able to tell him about it, and I have seen similar reviews that mention they have done the same to them. It’s a terrible gym anyway, would recommend ‘The Fitzroy Gym’ if you’re looking for a good one in the area.
Fantastic experience: It’s a lovely place to work out. Good facilities and location.
Fantastic experience: The staff are super friendly and very helpful! Molly you are amazing❤️
Negative experience: Gym’s opening hours are pathetic. No 24hr? Yikes. Not to mention the limited scope of opening hours on weekends mean if you work weekends you can likely forget the notion of training weekends. Plus some facilities are just seemingly never operational.
Fantastic experience: Lots of equipment. Not too busy. Plenty of training space hidden away. Good bathroom facilities incl. saunas, showers and lockers. Competitive pricing. A few squash courts if that's your thing. I haven't seen better. Beats Anytime on the variety front. Some machine equipment could probably do with a refresh soon to meet standards found at other local gyms, but is perfectly functional.
Fantastic experience: If you guys have been thinking about getting fit. Goodlife is the place to start. Friendly staff, lots of equipment and great music videos. Highly recommended.
Fantastic experience: I've been training there for about ten years or so. I followed my trainer Julian there. I've stuck with both Julian and Goodlife, and I couldn't be happier. I mainly do PT and cardio, but I've recently been doing yoga and pilates classes too. Highly recommended.
Fantastic experience: Mainly use the squash facilities, which are great. As a member I get free access during weekdays 6-4 so even a 20 min drill practice helps. Friday's from 5pm they have social squash so you get to play various people and chat during your breaks. All are welcome. I've done a spin class and Erin was very helpful to get me started. I also have used the treadmills in between squash days which are kept in good condition. Friendly staff.
Negative experience: Seems odd that all latest reviews are at the same time almost like the club incentived members to give them 5 star ratings. Product review is much better source. The PTS are not employees of the gym merely contractors paying money to work there.
Negative experience: old and run down, staff just sit on the their phones
Fantastic experience: Goodlife Fitzroy Is hands down the best gym i have trained at. Plenty of of equipment, lots of space to train, and nothing but good positive vibes. If you move to the area I would highly recommend joining this gym and trying one of group fitness instructor Erin’s classes they go off and I have got some really good results from her classes.
Fantastic experience: This gym is so lovely! The staff are so welcoming, kind and helpful. My person trainer Roo (Andrew) has made me feel so comfortable and been so helpful. I started out with no experience in the gym and continue to get better and better with Roo’s help! I really recommend him as a personal trainer he’s a lovely guy and an even better PT!
Negative experience: Lost my job during lockdown, and moved back home (interstate). Would not cancel my membership and continued to try charge me during a stressful time.
Negative experience: My membership termination survey feedback to Goodlife: At Goodlife Docklands (close to where I relocated), weights were always mixed up. Staff never sorted them, and members didn't put them back in the correct order. Fans were always turned off, and there is an apparent taboo about turning them on amongst some members. In addition, fans used to always be switched off at the power points, requiring me to dangerously stand on foam steps to switch it back on. Only until I left a one-star Google Maps review did the staff finally hang signage instructing against this practice, despite requesting this several times for several months. This was a common occurrence for other maintenance issues – broken toilets, empty hand sanitiser dispensers, malfunctioning showers, horrible filtered water taps… I visited Goodlife Fitzroy for a while, and the staff were similarly complacent. I guess you could summarise it with Goodlife staff don't seem to care much about members after they sign the dotted line (except if they're PT clients). At my former council-run gym, the idle staff would go around cleaning equipment, organising weights, and straightening everything. With Docklands, at any given moment, you'd see up to five staff standing around the customer service desk chatting, like I saw during my last visit. It's not a good look, and it makes me question what I'm paying for. It's in stark contrast with other gyms, and particularly with the new gym I have signed up to, Virgin Active.
Fantastic experience: Been going back and forth from this gym for years, and probably my favourite club. Good range of equipment, friendly and respectful members and staff. The only gym I’ve been to where dumb bells and plates are put back in the right spot and cleaned. No one hogs equipment which I’ve found at other gyms either. New layout works well
Fantastic experience: I’ve been training with Jarupa for the last few months and she’s amazing!! She’s so supportive and has helped me so much. The gym itself has a great range of equipment and machines, as well as an awesome cardio room upstairs.
Fantastic experience: Been training at goodlife for a few months now. Good facility and equipment and also very good personal trainer there I've been training with. If you need a good PT ask for Luke. Best PT I've worked with
Fantastic experience: Signing up at Goodlife for personal training was one of the best things I have ever done! Luke my trainer has helped me achieve my goals so far and I love our sessions. He makes it fun and enjoyable to train and he is very motivating and encouraging!
Fantastic experience: I have been a member of this gym for 2 years, I have been training with Julian for that time and have seen great results. There is plenty of equipment so no need to wait around. Awesome gym.
Fantastic experience: Been personal training with Luke for a couple of month, almost a year now. Always enjoy training with Luke, good knowledge and always fun. The results I have gotten have changed my body and I now also have a better quality of life.
Fantastic experience: I have been training at Goodlife for the past 10 years, for that time I have been training with Julian. I look forward everyday to training and Julian really motivates me to get the best out of myself.
Positive experience: Good gym with good people
Negative experience: Absolutely disgusting treatment when trying to cancel my membership. I cancelled months ago but I’m still being charged. The membership person there went through specific details with me and said he would change it on the form later but didn’t. I’ve emailed them 10 times and still don’t have a resolution. Worst service I’ve ever received. Fix my issue.
Negative experience: This company exploits new personal trainers by making them believe they will make easy money, when in reality, there is hardly any good leads and promotion to get you clients and you will be told you have to come in and work the floor at 6am everyday in order to run a good business, the personal trainers need to pay rent to the gym, which is $250 a week, but if you aren’t being advertised, then you won’t earn money and will have to pay them just to come to work, how do you justify that? When terminating your contract, you have to give 3 months notice, while still paying the gym rent, I was told that you have to give 90 days notice, but money was withdrawn from my account for 13 weeks instead
Negative experience: I joined the all club membership through GL Fitzroy with agreed weekly price, however I was and have been charged for higher price for three weeks. Having texted and emailed them for several time during the three weeks, I had absolutely response from anyone. And reading through the google reviews I do not think GL team care abt customers at all. Horrible experience.
Negative experience: Don't bother putting your account on hold They keep charging you, don't return calls and even after going into stop the account while I had an injury- they don't. Now considering VCAT action. The gym is ok- pity about their admin
Positive experience: coming from Perth was surprised the club not busy. Also Les Mills classes are cut back to 45 mins so miss the best tracks. Kind of sleepy atmosphere.
Negative experience: The sales representative, Michael, is a bit rude. Advertising of a free trial is misleading. Lots of equipment to target specific muscle groups at the gym, even if the equipment is dated.
Negative experience: air con never on, feel like i’m at dads
Hi Mick, we appreciate your honest review. We set a high standard for ourselves, so we are sorry to hear about your experience. We appreciate you bringing this experience to our attention. Please contact us at (03) 9915 2900 so we can work towards a resolution. We look forward to hearing from you. Take care!
Negative experience: I signed up in November 2021 on the perception that it was a 'free' trail. Michael (the employee) deceptively signed me up - sold the plan to me saying there will be no charges to my account if i cancelled within 28 days. I went to the gym for a couple of days and decided it wasnt for me and called up and cancelled. I checked my bank accounts two months later and realised i was being charged by Goodlife. When i called and spoke to the Michael again, he said it was in the contract and that there is no such thing as a free trail and then hung up on me. I was hoping it was an easy misunderstand and thought it was an easy fix...dont let the employees explain the plans to you....read the contract!
We appreciate you bringing this experience to our attention. Please contact us at (03) 9915 2900 so we can work towards a resolution. We look forward to hearing from you.
Positive experience: Great gym, fantastic staff always helpful and cool. Equipment a bit used but that’s the price of old school facilities. The staff create a great vibe. The music is 60% absolute trash but at least it’s not fitness first.
Hi Ryan. Thank you so much for reaching out regarding our facilities. We take the maintenance and operation of our equipment seriously. Please reach out to us at (03) 9915 2900 when you can so we can address this situation directly. Thank you and have a great day.
Fantastic experience: I've been going to Goodlife Fitzroy for over 10 years, I find the staff friendly and Julian my personal trainer gets good results and sessions with him make me want to get to the gym consistently. There is a great range of equipment and it's not a pretentious gym, which I like. There is also a full timetable of classes and the instructors make the classes enjoyable.
Hello Mark, thank you for the high star rating! We are always more than happy to assist you if anything else comes up. Have a great day!
Negative experience: You'll definitely want to abandoned your bank card after cancelling, they will continue to charge you for months and months after you have cancelled, without notification or invoice.
Hi Tim, thank you for taking the time to leave us your honest feedback. We appreciate you bringing this experience to our attention. Please contact us at (03) 9915 2900 so we can work towards a resolution. We look forward to hearing from you.
Negative experience: Customer Service is a foreign concept to this gym. Spent a year here, was always treated in a very standoffish way by the staff. I was even ignored by the reception desk once because the staffer on shift wanted to welcome/sign in a better looking person who came in after me. But the customer service staffer, Erin Montagna really takes the cake. If you want to finalise your contract, or resolve any issues pertaining to finance, expect Goodlife to make life as hard as possible for you. Sorted everything out over the phone, knowing the conversation was recorded? Don't worry, they'll never send you the paperwork they agreed to. Disgruntled that they're charging you after your contract has expired? Don't worry, they'll make sure you have to send them evidence of every transaction you've ever made with them in writing even though they have that data on file. Want to go over Goodlife Fitzroy's head to resolve your issues? Don't worry, they'll give you a fake number to a 'head office customer service team' that doesn't even exist anymore (sorry to the old English lady whose number that was, by the way. I didn't mean to call you four times). Erin Montagna will make sure that the money keeps coming in to Goodlife Fitzroy, no matter the cost to the (admittedly shaky) reputation of this Gym. If you want a truly sub par fitness experience and you like being talked down to by obnoxious people then Goodlife Fitzroy is an idyllic place for you.
Hi Alex, we regret to hear about this experience, but would appreciate the chance to turn your experience around. We would like to get some more details about your recent experience. We would like the opportunity to hear from you personally, please reach out to us at (03) 9915 2900 so we can discuss further. Thank you!
Fantastic experience: An excellent Goodlife Club to visit, the gym had everything I needed and plenty of space to do my own thing. easy to organize squash court use, it was a challenging sport, but worth a crack.
Hi Mark, thank you for taking the time to leave a review for us at Goodlife Health Clubs Fitzroy. We're happy you enjoyed your visit! See you during your next session
Fantastic experience: Love training here. Great vibe. PT Spencer absolute legend as well. Best trainer in area.
Hi Thomas, thank you for sharing your positive experience! Feel free to reach out to us if you need anything. Have a wonderful day.
Fantastic experience: Currently a PT here, have been for the past 10 years, have amazing clients who I look forward to waking up at 4.30am to train:)
Hi, thank you for your kind review; we are happy to pass along your comments to the team here at Goodlife Health Clubs Fitzroy! We're looking forward to your next visit with us!
Negative experience: Beware of this gym as they will happily charge your credit card even after expiry of your contract. No communication from them once they re-opened after lockdowns and started debiting my account again, although it was well past the 12 months contract. I would have expected a courtesy call or email or SMS, or at least an apology if not a refund once I alerted them to this situation. Go support another gym, avoid Goodlife thieves.
Hi Pascale, we are sorry to see this instance has prompted this review. If you could provide more information to us, we would be more than happy to try and make this situation better. Thank you for leaving feedback. Please reach out to us at (03) 9915 2900 so we may identify ways to improve your experience.
Negative experience: Usable but below average equipment and a nightmare around cancellation even within terms. Never used their classes and squash courts, so maybe they're good.
Hi Nick, we appreciate your honest review. We set a high standard for ourselves, so we are sorry to hear about your experience. We would like to have a better understanding about your experience. Please reach out to us at (03) 9915 2900 at your earliest convenience and we will do our best to resolve this with you.
Fantastic experience: Great squash facilities and friendly helpful staff
Hi Ben, thank you for the high star rating! If you ever need anything else from us, please feel free to give us a call or stop by. Have an awesome day!
Positive experience: Gym equipment is on the old side, but still great range and working well. Love that as a member, I can play Squash for free.
Hello Nelson, thank you; we appreciate your feedback! If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to reach out!
Negative experience: Management is doing everything in their power to ruin the place. Attitude towards patrons, especially the squash community is offensive. They're super keen to sell you a membership, but everyone i know who has one regrets it. As for the facilities, there's only a single drinking fountain across the whole premises, the sauna/steamroom have been "under renovation" for years, and the squash courts have nails protruding from the floor while the walls flake off.
Negative experience: Real Over the salesman’s tactics to get new member to join by harassing exisiting members every time we step foot in the building. It’s gone too far. Plz stop
Negative experience: Gym is just not looked after. Sauna and steam room has been turned off since I joined. When asked about it being repaired I was dismissed. It’s been a year and despite being sold a membership with sauna and steam room included I’ve never actually been able to use them. The gym is very out of date and many of the machines are falling apart. Metals are rusty and often the weights have no confusing numbering. It’s never clear if the numbers on the machines represent weight in kg or lbs or just arbitrary values. The staff are friendly generally but it’s clear they care more about gaining new members and not caring about existing members. I also signed up for 12 month membership as I was only going to be in the area for 12 months with work. But because of covid they extended my contract beyond the 12 months to cover the time of the closure. Which means I have been forced to pay $200 cancellation fee because they extended my contract. I had no say in this but now I’m supposedly liable to pay a cancellation fee. When i was signing up I had another gym in mind but I was persuaded by the location. I wish I would have just chose the other gym to join. It has been a fine experience dispute the above but it’s been soured as of late as I’ve come to learn they really don’t care about existing members.
Fantastic experience: This has been my daily gym for 5 years. It’s not particularly beautiful, but it’s not crowded, staff and customers are friendly, and they run good classes.
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff and great atmosphere! Love the group fitness offering!!
Fantastic experience: Lovely and complete gym and super friendly staff. Will be back for a good training. :)
Fantastic experience: A gym like no other, open up soon!
Positive experience: Equipment feel a bit old
Negative experience: Good facilities but the usual gormless millennials behind the counter. Talk slowly and ask questions before you hand over the money.
Fantastic experience: Great gym, good equipment, friendly staff.
Positive experience: No frills but lovely staff.
Negative experience: Run down. Bad for goodlife brand.
Negative experience: Not impressed, sometimes your just checking out a gym to see whether its got everything you need when you are deciding on somewhere to join cause there is so many options now, but didnt get passed day 2 because your not allowed to just go in and they started making/harassing us to pay & your not allowed to just have a free pass unless you are signing up at the end! I dont think that is inviting or makes you want to join a goodlife gym, the man was very serious and rude & kept saying that is not allowed nobody should have done that. The site should be MORE clear. & seems all that want is money. So many nicer gyms around.
Negative experience: Walking inside this gym first thing you notice is how old it is, it desperately needs a makeover / renovation. They have in the recent times painted it, but a coat of paint cannot hide the fact that this gym is old and very dirty. In the evening at approximately 7pm onwards, in the toilets you will NOT find any hand paper towels and hand soap and the bins will be overflowing with paper hand towels. It appears as though the toilets / bathrooms are only cleaned once and i assume in the morning. Lockers in the men's change rooms rarely work, and appear to NEVER have been cleaned. Sauna has been broken for awhile now whilst they " wait for quotes". In general the bathrooms are not a nice place at all. The gym equipment is old and needs replacing. There is always at least one machine that is out of order. The machines are always fixed, but it seems as though this is just a band aid solution, it will fix it but only for a short period of time before they break down again. Cardio equipment is rarely cleaned as the touch screens are often dirty. These screens also do not work all the time. It seems as though there is always something wrong each visit, whether it be a piece of equipment not working, no paper in the bathrooms, or recently the music did not work and was replaced by a portable stereo. Clocks not changed when it is daylight savings just goes to show the level of effort put in, therefore you have the wrong time on the clocks months after daylight savings has taken effect. It is obvious the management do not believe that any upkeep of the club is required, which is a shame.Like many of the other reviews on here, i once asked if i could bring a friend along, i was then transferred to a sales consultant and asked many questions in which he hoped would lead to a sale. I was then refused the pass because my friend did not live in the Fitzroy area. The sales approach is very very pushy and not appreciated nor warranted. Not to mention having to pay a fee every three months i believe that contributes to a "free" personal training session. So you are basically paying for that "free" session. When i questioned it i was told that it was in the contract and i should have read the terms and conditions. Yeah ok, i get it, but the whole approach is just sneaky and deceitful. Also the carpark always smells like urine.I could honestly go on and on with the issues / problems this gym has, but i think i have written enough already. It is such a shame that this gym doesn't receive any care and attention because it is in a great location and is a good size. Hopefully they will listen to all the reviews on here and make some MUCH needed changes.
Negative experience: Absolutely awful experience here. The staff were so incredible rude, as a collective. The change rooms were so dirty, the spa and sauna never worked. I tried to bring a friend as a guest and the poor thing was actually hassled and harassed by the sale staff before she even tried the gym. I was a customer 8 years and they have lost me by this toxic culture. I took myself and 5 friends around the corner, where it's clean, friendly and well maintained facilities. Seriously, stay very far away from this hell hole.
Negative experience: If I could give this place less than one star then I would. It's fine in terms of gym equipment, classes and facilities offered - if a bit rundown and old. What ruined it for me is their horrific sales-hungry approach. I signed up for the 5 day free trial to see what the gym was like as I was new to the area. When I visited the gym to start the trial, I was forced to sign a bundle of forms and engage in a long conversation with one of the personal trainers. This became awkward when he tried haggling deals with me in an attempt to get me to pay upfront for a full 6 month membership on the day - without even having used the gym yet! He actually succeeded in making me feel guilty for not signing up - even though I was entitled to the 5 day free pass offer! Following this initial meeting I was then hassled with constant phone calls and text messages 2 or 3 times a day for a full week. It made me so angry I didn't bother completing my five day trial and joined another local gym. My advice? Ditch the sales approach....
Positive experience: Good club with an old school feel and all the necessary equipment although the sauna has been broken for over 2 months with no fix. Very disappointing.
Fantastic experience: Great staff and great atmosphere
Positive experience: If you're looking for a gym with basic equipment and classes it's great. Its not a bad gym but their equipment is in need of an upgrade, just missing some good ones. And they definitely need to extend their hours, 6pm close on weekends is too early so PLEASE change that at least.
Negative experience: Extremely displeased with service. Pushy sales people who constantly call and text you until you sign up .. I'm talking multiple calls and texts a day until you respond... and then continue to pressure you into "additional extras" which you don't want when you agree to sign up. Ended up being charged an extra quarterly "coaching fee" and I was never offered these coaching sessions or being made aware of them. The gym refused to refund these payments to me and told me it was my responsibility to know about the sessions which I had never been told about. I would never go back and would not recommend. I was on a casual membership as I didnt want a lock in contract and still had to pay for a month extra once I cancelled. Staff were not understanding and unwilling to rectify any issues faced.
Positive experience: I’ve been going here for many years as it’s close to me and I managed to get a good membership price. But it’s not a big gym and honestly for an inner city gym they seriously need longer hours available. The classes are good , staff great and the equipment is ok. Recent update Feb 2020. The mens sauna was been broken for a good 6 months now. Upon asking many times i finally got an honest answer from the staff. The gym is looking to be sold off i.e. dont expect things to be repaired. There are always broken lockers and equipment like the rowers all need serving. My advice if you're joining new, lock in a cheap price and when its sold off demand same price remains.
Thank you so much for your review and your long standing membership, we appreciate it. We have passed on your hours feedback to our safety team. Team GL
Negative experience: The gym is what it is, staff are rude though.

Fantastic experience: Great city gym. I use the one in Fitzroy and in Docklands. Amazing yoga and Pilates classes
Oh great Martine, we are so glad you are loving Yoga & Pilates. Thank you for sharing and leaving a review for us. All the best, team GL
Fantastic experience: Massive gym, over 3 floors of equipment, facilities. Deceivingly small from the outside. Older in a few ways, but that is the Fitzroy vibe, clearly staff are doing great things to maintain it well. Gone through a new paint job. 5 squash courts too like wow. Everyone is also always smiling, and laughing so I feel comfortable when I am in the club. 10/10

Negative experience: I am new to Fitzroy area looking for a new gym. I went to this Goodlife as they advertised a 5 day free trial. When i got to the gym the guy who dealt with me was way too pushy trying to get me to sign up then and there - i kept advising him i need to talk to my partner before i signup and just want to do the 5day trial initially. He then advised me that they cannot give me the 5 day trial as I told him I went to another Goodlife 4 years ago in a different location. Then he started accusing me of "gym hopping" in the area! I would of actually signed up if they weren't so pushy and rude (the facilities are not too bad) the Goodlife management need to reassess their sales techniques as it is just plain rude and off-putting to prospective gym members. Reading the reviews below it looks like I'm not the only one who has experienced this.

Negative experience: Well, so I got this special discount in localgroupdeals, $19.95 for four weeks in the Fitzroy club. To be honest, I didn't read all the conditions (my fault), but what follows I don't think is fair at all anyway. This guy called me asking me a lot of personal questions about me: my job, if I live in an apartment or a house... He also asked me to prove somehow that I live in the area, like a bill or something like that. I forgot to bring it (the bill) so he said they couldn't let me in unless I brought my job contract or my house lease with my name on it. I showed my bank details, even I offered to show my visa (the bill wasn't enough unless there was my name on it). I am freelance and I am not in the lease of my house because, as everyone knows, there are a lot of verbal contracts when it comes to room rentals. I guess if I was Australian none of this would have happened. It's just a gym, not the White House. I just wanted to try the club and if I liked it I would have joined. All those personal requests were absolutely inappropriate. A friend of mine joined a week ago and they didn't make her go through all this. Not a way to get members. Really uncomfortable experience.
