Negative experience: My dad passed away last Tuesday, and when we contacted the gym to cancel his membership, we were told there would still be a $50 cancellation fee. This response was incredibly upsetting, especially considering my dad had been a loyal member of that gym for the past ten years. While I understand that businesses have policies in place, this wasn’t a situation where my dad simply decided to leave the gym or switch to another one—he passed away. The lack of respect and compassion in their email response was deeply hurtful. By contrast, other companies we reached out to—who also had cancellation fees, offered their condolences and waived the fees without hesitation. The experience with this gym felt cold and insensitive during an already difficult time.

Negative experience: Stay away!!! Impossible to cancel your membership!!! I sent an email on the 1st of December 2024 giving my 30 days notice to cancel my membership. It is now the 17th of December 2024 and I had still not received ANY confirmation my membership has been cancelled. I sent a follow up email on the 9th of December, 14th of December and today… STILL NO RESPONSE. I have had to resort to writing a review in hopes of receiving some sort of response to my emails. If a response isn’t received by close of business today I will unfortunately need to take it further as I am getting no where. Please learn from my mistake and go elsewhere. The lack of communication and acknowledgement is ridiculously unprofessional and unacceptable.

Negative experience: After joining the gym in June I had injuries then became unwell and had to suspend my membership several times due to health reasons. I now want to get on my rehab journey which will be slow doing PT which I had booked. But they as have me locked into reformer Pilates which I cannot do at the moment they are refusing to let me change my membership for what my needs are now they want me to pay $700+ to pay it out. They have no compassion and it’s all about revenue. Terrible customer service. Not the surge I used to love.

Fantastic experience: I joined Surge a little over a year ago and have nothing to complain about. I’ve been a member at 2 other gyms before Surge and I have to say that even though Surge is a little more expensive than other options, you get what you pay for at Surge as the equipment is regularly updated, the app is user friendly, the gym itself is big and clean, you also get a sauna and there are code lockers for you to put your stuff in (I am a bit hesitant to use them outside of staffed hours though, just in case). The reception staff at Clarkson never fail to say hello and goodbye, and if you’re regular, they get to know you. The PT staff also genuinely want what’s best for you. I have 5 weeks away coming up and Surge gives me the option to suspend my membership over that 5 weeks so I’m not paying for it. Overall, very happy with Surge Fitness.

Negative experience: Very disappointed with the customer service, couldn’t do enough for you when you sign up but completely give you the run around & lie to you when you wanna cancel your membership. Would never join a gym again after this.

Negative experience: Gym is fine. Paying 38 bucks aweek for 11mths. Signed 12 mth contract. Was subpose to do pilates . Can't use it as its allways booked out. Have to book week ahead. Not nomal!

Negative experience: Nice gym overall. So disappointed when I wanted to just “SHOW” a friend the inside of the gym and was refused even just a “peak”without paying a $20 fee or going through the introduction process when it would of taken 2 mins for a walk around. Was just pathetic and money hungry gym. Not once was I rude was just asking the right questions but it’s clear the staff don’t really know what there doing and confused on what I was asking. I didn’t ask to train her. I wanted to SHOW THE GYM.. It’s just a shame I can’t even walk my friend through trying to bring you new customers. You can’t throw prices in peoples face to join a gym if they haven’t even had a look inside especially if I’m a frequent customer and pay.

Fantastic experience: I had a few issues with transferring from one club to another and Kevin the club manager at Clarkson was amazing. He was extremely helpful and professional and sorted everything out straight away. Great customer service!

Negative experience: Gym and equipment is fine but its overpriced as hell. Their staff only care about profits. Their high and mighty attitude left a sour taste in my mouth and i am glad i left. Revo is better. Quality of equipment-wise and value-wise and atmosphere wise. Surge gets 1 star for what its worth.

Negative experience: Extremely dissatisfied with customer service of staff at this gym. Someone had stolen my tag from the pigeon hole whilst I was working out. I asked staff to look at the cameras to see who had taken it. Staff told me that she couldn’t see anyone that took it, implying that I had made it up and made me pay for a new tag. I don’t feel valued nor respected as a customer, and would not recommend this gym to anyone

Positive experience: I just joined this gym and looks great so far. Plenty of space and like the app as it tells you how busy it is. Lots of pinloaded machines but limited free floor space. Bathrooms look great with showers and a sauna. There is also a women only part if needed.

Fantastic experience: Just had their change rooms renovated and they are unreal. Massive floor with plenty of machine and benches. Depending on if you go during peak hours then it's a little busier but other then that you never really have to wait for a machine or bench, been my local for years.

Negative experience: Surge Fitness Clarkson has poor customer service, they failed to tell me about a missing payment which led to an unpaid fee that I had no idea about. They also failed to tell me about the 30 day cancellation policy when I signed up, when I went in to cancel my membership all they did was get me to fill out a few details, they told me it would be processed n a few days and I received no email letting me know that my membership was cancelled, I then called and enquired and found out they hadn't even put it through on their system. I called to pay my overdue fee which don't even know why because payment had been taken out for those weeks, I was trying to ask the receptionist questions but she kept trying to hang up on me.

Fantastic experience: Staff very helpful. Great prices and value. The gym has everything you need to lose weight, gain muscle, work on fitness and a special private area for females to workout. The sauna, toilet, showers and lockers are very clean and hand sanitizers and sprays are conveniently placed around the whole gym.

The coaches are tremendous- always creating a fun and engaging atmosphere in the group classes which pushes you beyond your limits. Fantastic experience: I spoke with Andrew about joining the club and honestly can say that he really shows passion for his role and has outstanding communication skills. He definitely knows how to make customers feel welcomed and that is very important to have. Hope Andrew gets praised for his efforts and his friendliness.

Positive experience: I've been at this Gym for all most 3 weeks not a bad gym for the equipment and sauna room in the change rooms but the environment inside feels a bit off like a wolf's den and I'm a sheep waltzing in clueless and alot of people who also train there complain non stop over silly small things to do what ever they can do to turn on you and get you kicked out of the gym . My opinion of training at this type of gym would only be best in a short term to get the knowledge from the personal trainers and experience with the equipment , or exit soon as possible and find a better gym for what your paying for .

Negative experience: I am astounded at the number of positive reviews for this gym. It is because of these that I once again agreed to join a gym. Sadly my experience has not been remotely nearly as positive. Is it that we, who see the real, not so glossy side, walk away from reality and do not take the time to post so that the other side is not heard? I am taking the time to post so that others can make a more informed decision before joining Surge Gym Clarkson. I joined in good faith—the salesperson, the same one who promised that there would never be a lock-in contract, booked a personal training session five days later, explaining that everyone was busy. I arrived for the session fifteen minutes early. I was showing professional respectfulness and courtesy. I was greeted and told to warm up, and the person will be with me shortly. Forty-five minutes later and thirty minutes after the personal trainer was scheduled to arrive, I still sat on the exercise bike waiting. I decided that something was amiss. Has the trainer gone to the wrong person? Am I invisible? I go to the front desk to enquire. The personal trainer is away. Sick? Flight back was delayed, etc.? They will call me shortly. This was Monday. By Friday, I hadn't received a call. The salesperson called to follow up. Hope? I thought. I received a vague explanation and an apology with the offer of more personal training sessions and a rebook. Okay, take two. The next session was with a new guy. Of the 60 minute session, he spent 40 minutes trying to sell me $450 worth of personal training sessions and encouraging me to sign up for them with him. In this time, I managed to say that I am interested in building my core body strength and use free weights and machines for my upper body strength. I stressed that my knees are a concern, and I did not want to pressure or stress them and asked to work around them. When we finally got to the 'personal trainer workout', he asked me to do walking lunges, squats, leg presses and leg curls. Am I completely invisible? A nothing, not, heard…? There were only five exercises in the reporter. He did not walk me through weight machines, show me a workout for core body or upper body tone/strength, or leave me with an exercise regime that I could take away and use as a basis for my membership workout. At the end of the hour, I said thank you and that I wanted to do some more training, he said that I couldn't and needed to do a 'warm down' now. I was left entirely unmotivated, and though I've tried to use the gym since, I haven't felt welcome, at home or motivated. What's more devastating is that after three months of reflection, I've asked to cancel my member ship and given the one-month notice, which was what I was told was necessary to cancel. This is the problem, at this point, even though they acknowledged that I was not given the service as described I was informed that I would need to keep paying for six months. My contract has no specified time on the written document which is what the salesman told me when joining. I have sought advice from the ACCC who have registered this complaint, and they have advised me that The Australian Consumer Law provides consumers with the right to truthful and accurate representations when buying a product or service. This means that businesses must not mislead you with statements that are incorrect or likely to give you the wrong impression. This rule applies to information that a business provides you in any medium, including when talking to a sales representative, on packaging, in online shopping forums or social media. The Australian Consumer Law also allows you to cancel a contract without penalty if: • the seller misrepresented the products, services, terms or conditions • a service does not meet a consumer guarantee

Fantastic experience: Surge Clarkson...my gym! If you’re looking for the gym to go to, go to surge! In my opinion it’s the best gym by far when compared to the rest. Everyone, from the top of the ladder namely Liam and Paul, right down to the members are the most fantastic bunch of people that a person could hope for. We must not however forget the middle men and ladies who are responsible for keeping surge in running order and whose efforts make surge the very best! I myself have in the past and currently still am receiving the best professional advice and help that I possibly could especially seeing as I only have 1 leg! The managers, personal trainers and receptionists and all personnel all the way to the cleaning staff are all exceptionally wonderful people. My gym is a happy gym! I will never ever leave if I can help it. I recently moved further away and that has not even stopped me from returning to my gym! So ladies and gents, if you want to utilise a good gym, Surge is the way to go... you won’t be disappointed! Make sure you see Zac at reception for a free pass

Positive experience: The equipment was very good quality, PTs and the service was good. The gym equipments has the start middle/ high range you can choose for every machine can changes the angles. That was cool that not alot of gyms have. They could do with fixing up the water fountain or installing another one. Apart from that. Clarkson and Wanneroo are very good. Cheers guys

Fantastic experience: Surge Clarkson is my second home sometimes I feel like it’s my first home the gym it self is great no matter what day or time you are in there you will always manage to speak or see someone that will motivate you to shift your a.ss into gear. I have been lucky enough to build some really good friendships and muscle at this gym whilst loosing body fat and stresses. All staff members at surge are great. The personal trainers and knowledgeable, friendly and motivating, the ladies at the crèche are fantastic, group fitness instructors are very enthusiastic, friendly and always full of energy ready to get everyone up and moving. The ladies and guys at front desk are always welcoming and learn your name very quickly. The gym is very clean and has a sauna . I will easily say that surge deserves more then five stars ⭐️. Great facility offering a great range of equipment, a wide variety of group fitness classes including SCONNECT classes, backed my Myzone technology. Warm friendly staff including well experienced instructors and personal trainers. Really love the sauna, cycle and women studios. Fantastic experience: Ever since joining surge I have felt like I have been apart of a family. All of the PTs are absolute legends and their knowledge far exceeds my expectations. The admin team are always super friendly and welcoming. The gym itself what can I say. The equipment is awesome with their strive machines allowing 3 types of weight distribution and there is always plenty of benches or areas to do free weights. I don't attend the classes but I always see them going off throughout the day packed out and pumping. I have made friends with other gym goers as chatting to people is also easy here. I started off not knowing if I would enjoy it but now I can safely say it is my most favourite part to my day. Highly recommended for new comers and seasoned trainers.

Fantastic experience: I am an Author of the well-known Survivor story- In the blink of an eye-Reborn (Petercoghlan.com) I just had to review this awesome place, its my Gym but I've seen many on my Rehabilitation road from coma. What makes me choose Surge Clarkson was the quality machines called STRIVE. STRIVE EQUIPMENT allowed me to have a fighting chance at life again, I did need afew sessions with their personal trainers to understand just how to get the best out of these machines, then I was off! Fantastic experience: While going to Surge at Clarkson, I was able to work out in a professional environment with also a section only for women to train in. It was an excellent facility with modern equipment. I’d like to personally thank Jakeb for being my PT and being respectful and catering to my training needs. Fantastic experience: I couldn't be happier training at Surge and couldn't recommend the gym high enough! The fitness club has everything you could want and need from a ladies only section to saunas! The trainers are nothing but enthusiastic and helpful. They go above and beyond to assist in whatever you may need. I've trained at a number of gyms and I've never felt as comfortable or confident as I do at Surge! Would recommend this gym ten times over! Fantastic experience: An excellent Gym, with a large gym floor, a new cycle studio with amazing Virtual riding sessions when a live class is not running. A large studio for group fitness classes and a separate ladies only gym. PT sessions available at additional cost. Change room facilities are excellent, with secure lockers, clean showers and sauna as well. Friendly staff at front reception, who always welcome and acknowledge you on entry and exit. Surge Fitness caters for everyone and is open 24/7.

Negative experience: Absolute joke of a fitness business. Don't even bother reading the terms and conditions as they are known to change without notice. I've met real estate agents and used car salesmen more honest than this lot.

Positive experience: Nice clean gym. Facilities are fresh and new. Equipment is up to date. Nice amount of room for a range of workouts. Highly recomend the creche facilities too.

Positive experience: One of the larger, well maintained and clean gyms NoR. Now they have another gym in Jindalee that is much bigger.

The PT are great listeners to what your after in your body and they help you reach your goals.There equipment is very well looked after and clean. They have child minding which my daughter loves. It's just a great gym around

Positive experience: Solid set up. I train either at night or early morning. Always quiet enough for me to access the deadlift platforms, a rack or a bench press. Most members use a towel. There is a lack of hygiene products at times for me to ensure my station is clean before and after use. Weights are a bit of a mess, plates everywhere and never tidy at all, though that's generally not a problem. Friendly gym members and after a while familiar faces say hi. I don't train during staffed hours. the sign up process was seamless by Andrew. Edit Sept 2022. Noticeable regression in member etiquette the past 12 months or so. Usual cheap gym behaviour - weights all over the place, no towels (often same culprits), leaving bars/machines loaded etc. Surge used to be very good at creating positive member etiquette.

Fantastic experience: Gym is very spacious and staff members are kind and welcoming. Dylan was very helpful, induction of the facility was very quick and straight forward.

Fantastic experience: Good, spacious facility with good options for what suits you and some high tech cardio machines. Zach was pretty upfront and convincing and the gym seems to have a friendly vibe.

Fantastic experience: I have been a member with Surge for years. I took a short break due to moving out of the area but happy to say I’ve joined back up again. Signing up and getting started again was easy with the help of Dylan. I also found Jo at the front counter very helpful.. she’s always bubbly and very welcoming :)

Fantastic experience: Been a member of Surge for around 5 years now. Reception staff always have a chat, instructors are on the ball especially Charlotte Ludik and Sam McLaren. Rarely use PT but Kyle is fab. Even the cleaner says hi at 5am! Very pleased with the shower and toilet facilities being upgraded too, very smart. And am enjoying the early classes at 5.45am now. Main area improvements last year are great for creating my own mini circuit. Used creche for a few years too always clean and good care for littlies. Thanks!
