Negative experience: I’m a member of a this gym, great gym and nice staff. They got a ‘no towel - no workout’ policy. Yet no men in the gym is using a towel, some brings a towel but leaves it on a the floor, it’s never in use. Big announcement every 30 min with ‘no towel - no workout’ message, yet no one listens. The staff doesn’t care, the gym doesn’t care. So all is left is filthy sweaty machines ruining the enjoyment of everyone else’s workout. What a shame

Negative experience: 20/9/24 update to the 'Response from owner' below. I had already contacted Crunch Aus Head Office, and I assume in keeping with company policy, received no response. On the advice of the 'Response from owner' I then email help@ below. 17/9/24 to Crunch Help email: "I've contacted Crunch Head Office and also heard nothing back, as per the Google Review response, I am emailing yet again." 18/9/24 Crunch Help email response: "Hi Julian, How are you doing today? To freeze your membership, we need to have a completed freeze form and the $15 fee paid. Our manager, Izzy, had mentioned the importance of coming into the club to finalize this, which may have been missed. I’m really sorry for any confusion this might have caused. Since the form and fee haven’t been processed, we’re not able to apply a credit at this time. 18/9/24 Response email to Crunch Help: 1 I sent an email requesting this 2 I was overseas for 7 weeks, so obviously couldn’t come into the club 3 Izzy advised me I should have been sent a form to fill in, but I never received anything from Crunch 4 Crunch has been charging me for a service I haven’t been using, so why can’t you take the $15 fee for doing nothing out of that? So in summary, are you stating that Crunch doesn’t have the ability to read an email and act on it? Crunch response: Hi Julian, How are you doing today? To freeze your membership, we need to have a completed freeze form and the $15 fee paid. Our manager, Izzy, had mentioned the importance of coming into the club to finalize this, which may have been missed. Contract paragraph here, which does not state I have to physically come into the club, as previously advised multiple times. I’m really sorry for any confusion this might have caused. My response: There is also nothing in that provision which states I have to physically come into the club, so in essence, Crunch has failed to provide me with the freeze form. On so it goes on, with Crunch 'Help' doing everything possible to avoid applying a credit, for which they failed to provide me with the Freeze form they keep referring to and stating I have to physically come into the club, when their own contract contains nothing to this affect in it. Original Review Below Terrible customer service, for a very simple request. I requested Crunch to freeze my membership whilst overseas. They ignored this request twice and the third time they said they can't do it via email or phone and I had to come into the physical reception. I reminded them that I was overseas and therefore this was not possible. Ignored multiple times again, and then returned to Melbourne and went to see the staff, after doing this three times and each time being told "It's definitely going to get sorted out", I am now in the process of going through an official third party for compensation.

Negative experience: Crunch have been skimming my debit card for $20-65 for months. I have emailed and called them. The do not respond and continue to skim random amounts. Furthermore; I prepaid in full, a 18 month membership. I used my membership twice and soon after I injured my shoulder and was not able to utilise my membership. My recovery was over 12 months and I totally forgot about my membership. Although I had not been in since about week 1, at no point did they contact me to see if I was ok or to see if I would like my membership suspended. When I called them about this, they promised to revert to me however; they have not. The corporate and management side of this business is it's let down and they do not deserve your money.

Negative experience: The temperature at Mentone Crunch is always way too hot to the point that I feel ill. My partner and I are considering leaving for this reason.

Negative experience: The change rooms here always smell like fecal matter. All gym weights are in pounds because they are an Anerican company. PT’s that work here are loud and obnoxious. Wait for machines is long as the gym has too many members. Members are allowed to walk around in there dirty socks. Staff are uninterested immature and cannot take the slightest amount of feedback whatsoever. Last summer the air conditioner did not work for 2 months. Crunch fitness imposes harsh unreasonable rules on injured members regarding the freezing of an account for a minimum of 3 months, they will not allow a member to re-activate membership before said 3 month period is over. Managers care more about their fragile staff then paying customers. **additional response*** As you can see in the reply comments from crunch management they are trying to make out i am a staff abuser, this manager has manufactured said abuse, it is not abuse to complain to staff when you are not getting minimum service. Crunch, you are a pack of liars, i have hard evidence of your poor service, where is your evidence of said abuse? Supply evidence that i am an abusive customer or remove said SLANDEROUS COMMENTS. It is not abusive to tell somebody that their customer service skills are not up to scratch. Run your gym like professionals, not like PETULANT CHILDREN!

Positive experience: My partner took me to his gym for the free pass at the end of the month. I loved being able to explore the gym he uses, and it was a nice setup with all the equipment. The staff members at the front were friendly people.

Fantastic experience: Very recently we relocated from Sydney and while I was in Sydney I was an active member of Fitness First!! I was quite concerned whether I will get a similar high standard , great service similar to Fitness first in Mentone too!! I was so fortunate. It was just the luck of the draw I found this , awesome Fitness place. It is none other than Crunch Fitness in Mentone. The team members are nice and bubbly.More over friendly too. Great service from almost all the staff. I love & adore the classes over there but my personal” THEvBEST “ is the one on Saturday & 11.00’am the Zumba class. I feel I am in a night club. The music, the moves and the rotating colours of the light system in it makes me feel that I am on heaven on earth!! I was heart broken as I didn’t see that lady instructor last week!! She is beyond BEST!! I couldn’t get her name properly, I think she is BEATA!! If I am wrong pls rectify the name. Thanks. Above all big shout out to ANDY & JEREMY for their brilliant customer service !! My husband too ended up joining as Jeremy did a marvellous service where my hubby couldn’t say no!! Negative experience: This is a detailed account of the conversation and series of events that took place between Crunch and myself regarding the cancellation of my membership.It appears that a third party manages the payments, and Crunch management does not have direct control over these matters. Here is the sequence of events: In October, I suspended my membership due to experiencing health issues. In December, I traveled abroad. In January, I received a call regarding membership reactivation. I informed them that I was not in the country and requested an online cancellation form due to my health condition and absence from the country. The form WAS NOT sent to me, however, my suspension was extended by three months. On March 21st, I received a message stating that a payment had been attempted on my account but was denied. Noone called me or notified me of this before it occurred. I contacted Crunch on March 22nd and was informed that I had to visit the facility in person to cancel my membership. Alternatively, I could send a medical referral from my doctor. On March 22nd, I sent the medical referral but did not receive the cancellation form. Finally, on April 2nd, I visited Crunch Mentone again, but I was still not given the cancellation form. Instead, I was informed that I needed to settle outstanding charges which were charged while I was not using the gym. When I refused to make the payment, I was denied the cancellation form and told that the charges would continue to be applied to my card (although I informed them that my card had already been cancelled). I suggested keeping the dispute open and escalating the matter to the government if necessary, but my request for cancellation was not accepted.

Negative experience: Airconditioning has been broken all summer - too hot to work out! They keep saying they will fix it however nothing is being done, fees charged as usual, no compensation or reduced fees offered to existing members - not good enough!

Negative experience: The gym and facilities are quite good. Found that the front desk was fantastic at showing me the ropes for a first-time person at the gym. But the frustration I do have is that the gym is too hot. Found that when I would go there, there was a struggle to continue my work out and get to the end because of the humidity.

Negative experience: Overall well equipped and friendly staff. However, they really need to look at how the group classes interact with regular members. The HIT class monopolises multiple areas of the gym (i.e. rather than focusing on one room) which means, if you are into serious training, access to and executing a circuit around items like battle ropes or sleds is compromised. If a class is running it should only use one of the areas of the gym; this is also suboptimal for member safety as tired class participants are trudging past people trying to do their own workouts. Not sure if I'll continue my membership.

Fantastic experience: As far as my workouts are concern, I’m satisfied since the equipments I need are more than sufficient. Classes I join are very tough but beneficial. Though sometimes there are staff who just don’t care when you enter the gym. I hope I could be more acquainted with what is really benefiting me considering I have a summit membership.

Fantastic experience: In July 2022 I plucked up the courage to send an email to Crunch Mentone to enquire about their services. Promptly I received a call from the very professional and personable Issy who gladly suggested that I come in and have a tour. That tour was life changing when Andy took me around, explained everything, was friendly and professional and understood how daunting this was for me. Andy will forever be my super hero, he is an absolute asset to Crunch fitness Mentone. He was professional and didn't upsell anything but simply encouraged me just to make a start. Its been over a year and we have loved the journey. Issy is an excellent leader, her high expectations with her team and ensuring that the operation runs well has been consistent and impressive. The front counter staff are friendly, helpful and always welcoming. The Zumba classes are just brilliant, the instructors are exceptional, a special shout out to Mary-Anne, Beata and Alicia. And of course my PT, Alana, she is phenomenal. Alana is always well prepared, the programs she has written for me has been intentional and with much thought. Her investment into my health and fitness has been life changing for me. But most of all she believes in me, encourages me and has challenged me in every session. I cannot believe how much I have learnt and how much more I can do now. Alana and I have so much fun at every session even though I work very very hard with her. Alana is kind, caring, professional and exceptionally good at what she does. I have gone from never doing any exercise at 51 years of age to now understanding the importance of the need to exercise and to quote Alana, 'consistency is key'. Thank you Alana and the wider Crunch Fitness staff for doing an excellent job. I highly recommend anybody who is nervous to join, do it, you will not regret it. And its never too late. Fantastic experience: From day 1 of the initial tour with Andy and subsequent training sessions and classes, we've yet to have a negative experience. The staff are consistently friendly and helpful. The amount of equipment available is vast and provides so many alternative options, especially when the gym gets busy. The classes are incredible and I am inspired to perspire to greatness at every visit. A special shout-out to PT Alana! She is just incredible, and amazing person who challenges and pushes one to new heights but encourages you along the way! Izzy and her team, espeially Seb, Jeremy, Blake, Mia and Mali are brilliant who always welcomes me with a smile and sincere hello.

Negative experience: DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM!!!!!! Haven't been a member for a year, thought about singing up and went onto the website. Negative experience: My Crunch Fitness experience left me deeply disappointed, frustrated, and disillusioned. Hidden charges and a lack of transparency made canceling my membership due to a foot injury challenging. Unfortunately, cancellation via email, phone, or the app wasn't an option. Communication breakdowns arose from these hidden charges and lack of cancellation avenues. Despite assurances, I was charged for the following month, including an annual fee, within three months of joining. This disregard for my situation resulted in a waste of my time and resources. While trainers like Milan shine, poor customer support and billing systems taint the experience. A strong word of caution to potential members.

Positive experience: I enjoyed my free trial at crunch fitness. I was appalled about the patrons not cleaning the machines after using them, with little enforcement by the staff. The gym is absolutely massive, with a vast range of machines and spaces. From what I saw some machines could do with having multiple due to their popularity. As for the staff, there was a woman who served alongside Andy that was very rude both over the phone and in person. She didn't feel welcoming and looked like she hated her job. Past reviews talking about cancellations being difficult but it was very straightforward and looks like they have increased flexibility.

Positive experience: It's very hot inside, and I've found that some of the trainers running classes can't always help if you don't know how to do a particular exercise.

Negative experience: Equipment is good. Instructors are nice. During joining they won't mention hidden charges like the annual maintenance fee. You have to pay one month of excess at the time of joining. There is no option of hold which is the worst thing. If you are unable to go for example two months and ask for hold they will say, there won't be any options of holding the membership and if you want to terminate they won't return the one month excess amount which was paid at the time of joining.

Negative experience: I will never return to this gym. Tried to put my membership on hold as I was due to give birth and needed a couple of months to recover and was told I would need to cancel and rejoin. This is the only gym I have ever been to where freezing a membership is not an option. They need to update their policies and be more inclusive.

Positive experience: Big gym with lots of machines, free weights, racks, benches etc. Also an outdoor workout area. There are classes but I don't go for those. I usually go in the mornings between 10 and 12 and there's no problem with waiting to do what I want to do. Some machines are sometimes out of action but generally get repaired pretty promptly. Change rooms are fine. Was told there was one free "gym tour" by personal trainer as part of signup, and I applied for this, but was never contacted about it. Eventually got the hang of things myself. Suits me fine, for a reasonable price.

Negative experience: BEWARE of their dodgy practices when you want to freeze your membership. I was informed I could put a hold on my membership until further notice as I've been waiting on surgery - which has been postponed numerous times due to Covid etc. Fast forward 6 months from the time I had this convo - the fortnightly fee starts coming out of my account again without warning (no phone calls, texts or emails). I have now been informed that I can cancel my membership but will not be getting a refund on what's been withdrawn. I was fully intending to go back to Crunch after I'd had my operation in June - no chance that will be happening now. Customer service is not their strong point either. Disgraceful! Will follow up with their admin/head office and if I don't have any luck getting a refund will take it to the Office of Fair Trading. So many comments on here regarding their contracts & issues with cancelling memberships .......... surely it needs to be investigated further.

Negative experience: Lucky to get 1 star. Issue with renewal at old price as per sms offer from them. Three months later same sms and offer. Manager was to call to discuss but didn't. Called again on offer expiry date and told it was discussed internally and decision is $200 extra and won't budge. I'm not happy they won't honor the offer but really cranky the 'manager' didn't call to discuss. Terrible customer service.

Negative experience: Read all previous reviews about trying to cancel before you decide to join, it was an absolute nightmare. I was able to sign up online so unsure why I had to go in to cancel, especially since I had moved away from the area. A reassessment of processes wouldn’t hurt.

Positive experience: I read some of the recent reviews and they seem very harsh! I have been a member for a couple of years. I paid upfront for 12 months and they extended it for all the lockdowns, without asking! With upfront payment you do save, but you need to be committed also. My membership terminates when my yearly contract finishes, unlike those who pay weekly. Most of the complaints I read seem to be about cancellation, or refunds. Filling out a form to cancel in person seems to be ridiculous. My son did have that problem also. As for the gym itself, it is massive, with a good selection of equipment and classes. Generally it’s clean, but some members are not. Leaving their rubbish in the changing room and some of the cardio pockets. The showers have tiny fleas also. I go when it’s off peak when it’s rarely overcrowded. Unlike some of the other complaints about peak hour. My only gripe is members who hog equipment and look at their phone, or worse still leave a towel on there while they use something else! Then rush back and say they are using it! The only time management contacts me is when it’s time for renewal. They never leave a message, but I know what they want. If it was closer to home I would probably keep going, but with fuel prices up and traffic heavy, the decision to keep going is harder.

Positive experience: I am really split in my rating as I did find the front counter staff, personal trainers and general vibe of this gym amazing, but last year I cancelled my membership as I was moving interstate, and they continued to charge my bank account. I sent Crunch Mentone an email in regards to this matter which was escalated, but I never received my refund after numerous emails, and phone calls. I am really disappointed I never received my refund. Thankfully it was a small amount, but that is not the point. If I am not receiving my refund after multiple attempts in contacting them about the situation, how many more customers are you not refunding? Not good.

Negative experience: Took my 15 year old son in to club and asked if he's ok to train here as he is not 16 for another 4 months. The manager Mark said absolutely he can and gave us a tour and was happy to sign us up and take my card details and charge that, but two days later when we turn up for his first session, Mark tells us ... BIG PROBLEM!!! Your son cant train hear unless he's 16. My son was shattered! Poor communication as he is the manger and should be all over these policies and certainly not wait until he comes in to train to tell him it's a NO GO ... really poor management on their behalf ... NOT HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Negative experience: Bought a membership that I was not able to use. Tried cancelling several times over 18 months however was told to come in person to cancel (45 min drive from my new address). This was not feasible given I don’t have a car. Crunch should offer cancellation emails or over-the-phone instead as this is can be viewed as discrimination against people who cannot physically come in themselves. The person on the phone was helpful and sorted out this issue for me.

Negative experience: Crunch charged for Melbourne lockdown 4.0. When this was questioned I advised it was “a Business decision”. Ironically I have not been a member since April 2020 but they continued to charge me. DO NOT give direct debit authority. If you must join this gym, pay up front. Sadly, with all the inept staff and high turnover, it is near impossible and incredibly time consuming to get back the money they steal from your account.

Positive experience: American gym thats adapted here. Most Weights are labelled in pounds. Lots of Equipment for all grades of fitness. Can be busy at peak hours. NOT a 24 H gym. Small Outdoor workout area. Lots of fees that are not clear when joining so clarify with reception to avoid surprises. Reception is usually approachable and help out.

Negative experience: Horrifying experience. After breaking my back in a car accident, I had called up the gym to notify them of what happened and to cancel my membership. Not only did they not cancel my membership, but it was only when I called to rejoin did I discover this. The manager was the rudest person I have ever spoken to, with zero sympathy for the situation, and equally demanding that I pay the outstanding dues. I have never been so disgusted in my life.

Positive experience: A huge gym with spacious outdoor turf area even, I come to use regularly with 'Bring A friend' and my friend gets free entry and access. Great value for money with the daily group classes. I switched to this gym because of the great variety of group fitness classes, in particular the Barre and Yoga- The instructors here are absolutely amazing and friendly! My other local gym unfortunately catered for an older demographic so had an earlier closing time, and classes would be frequently cancelled or the times changed with little to no notice, which didn't suit me as a working parent. I love the Recovery room hydro-massage chairs. However there are frequent maintenance issues with these. A few other areas of improvements would be the changeroom lockers because they don't have locks.Although the changeroom is quiet impressive itself as its always tidy, showers wellstocked with liquid soap and there is private cubicle for women for changing. Also, spin bikes are very basic, don't have digital displays even for resistance and calorie stats, and the session is limited to half hour. Upside is that the class sizes are small so there is always a bike avail! The gym can get quite busy as there are a lot of young working class and uni students here. There is ample parking, with cafe and supermarket next door ...which makes going to this gym a great location to squeeze in a daily workout !
