BlocHaus Bouldering Fyshwick | Canberra: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Great bouldering place. Very friendly. Loads of routes at all levels.
Negative experience: Use to be a member here but got racially profiled by the manager at Fyshwick, alot of people have gotten banned here for no real reason so be careful not to speak here because you are not valued. Aside from the terrible management of an international brand, who don't care about their hot headed management team in Canberra, even after receiving numerous complaints at their head office, the other climbers are really friendly as you would expect from all climbing gyms, I just hope they don't get too scared to actually enjoy their time there incase they get banned. If you want to visit just do a day pass. Please note, I haven't been treated unfairly in any other blochause, just Canberra.

Fantastic experience: i love thjs place
Thank you for your kind review! Hope to see you in-haus soon!
Fantastic experience: Had an absolute blast! Definitely recommend, even as a beginner. There's a good variety, and its surprisingly easy to learn! Looking forward to going back soon!
Thank you for your review, Mikaela! We're so glad you had a great time in-haus! Hope to see you around the haus soon!
Positive experience: Good bouldering session, with good problems in an open area. Varied settings with mix of old and new school problems. + : extensive climbing area (don’t miss the walls hidden on the left). Easy problems (red, purple) have good settings - : lack of intermediate/hard problems (yellow/white). Having an harder range would be great to entertain v8+ climbers.
Thanks so much visiting & for your feedback. We're stoked you had a good session! If you haven't been already, check our out Mitchell gym – we have even more climbs, steeper wall angles & a kilter board! Hope to see you in-haus again soon.
Negative experience: not the best in my view too many trades
Hello! Thanks for leaving a review. We're always looking to make BlocHaus better. Could you please let us know a bit more information about your experience?
Negative experience: If you like sets that teach you technical skills in an approachable manner, with logical grading, be prepared to be highly disappointed. Sets have little thought put into how to use technique, the holds are very worn with very little grip especially on the volumes. For such a marketed gym with a hip presence I was so disappointed in the quality of the climbing here.
hey Sonia, thanks for taking the time to leave us a review & offer feedback on your visit. providing thoughtful, fun & grade-appropriate challenges is a core value of our team & we're proud to have been a part of many customer's climbing journey thus far. we're sorry to hear this wasn't necessarily reflected on your first visit. we're always striving to be boulder & better & are happy to pass your thoughts onto our team. our stripping & detail crew consistently work to maintain the cleanliness of the holds as part of regular duties. additionally, we supply brushes & free liquid chalk to help keep our boulders clean & the friction high! please feel free to chat to any of our friendly crew next time you're in. we hope that you'll visit the haus again & that you find more climbs up your alley
Positive experience: Friendly helpful staff. Our kids had a great time. Plenty of variety in the route setting.
Thanks for your review, Levi! We're so glad your kids had a great time We'd love to know what we can do to make it a 5-star visit for you next time? Always looking to be boulder & better!
Fantastic experience: Great climbing gym
Thank you, Jack!
Fantastic experience: Fantastic facilities. Lovely staff. Excellent coffee!
Thank you Jack! We're so happy you enjoyed our Haus & our coffee. We hope to see you again soon!
Fantastic experience: Nice place for a first bouldering experience! But also if you are an experienced person. The staff is super nice. Access for a day with shoe rental is 31 AUD. There is also a slack line. There are showers in the place with shower gel and shampoo available. Definitely a nice place to come to in Canberra!
Thank you, Luis! We're stoked to hear you had a good time in haus! Hope to see you again soon
Fantastic experience: Truly an iconic Canberra establishment. A visit to Canberra is not complete without a visit to blochaus! You go for a climb, you laugh with your friends, you balance on the slack line, you grab a bite and a beer at Capitol next door- It’s a canon event & the perfect weekend vibe.
Fantastic experience: Great place to climb, very friendly and laid back. All the patrons are very respectful of each other.
Thank you for the kind review, Andrew! We hope to have you in haus again soon.
Fantastic experience: Great experience at Bloc Haus. Awesome upstairs training area. I liked that they had an all ages section of the gym as well as a 12 and above section. They also have showers upstairs which was particularly handy as it was pretty humid on the day I visited. Thanks Bloc Haus!
Thank you for visiting Brooke! We're so happy you had a great experience in-haus. We hope to see you again soon!
Fantastic experience: Place is great with awesome climbs. Similar to Blcohaus sydney. inclusive and great event nights to meet new friends and community
Thank you for the kind words, David! We love our BH community!
Fantastic experience: What a gym! Blochaus fosters an incredible sense of community which has been invaluable since moving to Canberra. I come for the climbing and end up staying for the coffee :)

Thanks so much for the kind review Orla! We're glad you enjoyed our coffee & climbs. Hope to see you in-haus again soon.
Fantastic experience: What is there not to love about BlocHaus Canberra. Really unique climbing on offer and a great place for the public servants of Canberra to come together! No idea how they continue to keep the gym so clean!
Thank you very much Phoebe! We're stoked to hear you enjoy our Haus!
Fantastic experience: This is a fantastic boulder gym and a great company. The team at Blochaus have been positive change makers since day one. ♥️
Thank you Alexander We appreciate your kind words!
Fantastic experience: Only had a pleasure of a few climbs here while travelling through but always had a great time in the gym. and the coffee! too good.
Thank you David – so glad you had a good time & also enjoyed our coffee! We hope to see you back in-haus again one day soon!
Fantastic experience: such a great gym, as a beginner-mid level climber, i find the climbs in my grade to be challenging and exciting. i love when gyms don’t just set for the advanced ppl! it’s also got such a lovely and welcoming vibe (and i low key want that poster wall at home). bonus points for the ice latte cups and friendly staff! pictured: me attempting (and failing) my first black climb
Thanks so much for the lovely review Lilli We're stoked to hear you found the climbs exciting & challenging – we aim to have a broad range of climbs so anyone, at any level, is able to have a fun time! We hope you can visit us again soon!
Fantastic experience: I'm at the start of my climbing journey and the climbs here are by far the most approachable and motivating I've encountered. The staff are all incredible and it's such a diverse and inclusive space! I came here with a group of friends and we had so much fun trying out some of the harder level climbs and playing around the family haus! Very well maintained and the friendliest environment... will be back !!!
Thank you so much Ava We're stoked that you & your friends had a fun time in-haus! It brings us joy to hear that you found our climbs approachable & motivating, as well as the environment friendly & inclusive! Thank you for taking the time to leave this lovely review & we hope to have you visit again soon!
Negative experience: Pretty average.
Fantastic experience: I've been four times now and am going back today! Super good exercise and helps me get over my fear of heights
thanks for the kind review, Moss! we're glad to hear bouldering is helping you overcome your fear of heights! hope to see you in-haus soon!
Fantastic experience: Appreciate the lack of children.
Fantastic experience: Love Blochaus! Great vibes, staff very helpful
thanks for the kind review Cameron! we're stoked to hear you enjoyed your time in Haus — see you again soon!
Fantastic experience: Literally the best!
thanks for the kind words Michael!
Negative experience: They keep changing the rules so now my daughter can't go for another 4 years. She loved this place when she was 4, had her 5th birthday here, then they changed the rules to 6+ so we waited another year but now changed again to 10+ unless it's during normal work hours (before 5pm weekdays only). Ridiculous considering they have a massive kids only area. We won't be back.
Hi Edgar! We’re sorry to hear about your disappointment & will take on your feedback. Our haus rules have been in place since last December & have remained unchanged for a more structured & safe experience for everyone who visits our gym. Week nights & weekends are our busiest times in-haus & we find that it is a higher risk to kids under 10 who may not have the awareness & ability to navigate a full haus. In saying this, we make exceptions for kids who have participated in a kids program or have prior bouldering experience & demonstrated safe bouldering etiquette. Our kids programs include a gym membership & shoe hire for kids to make the most of their developing skills outside of the regular access hours. If you’d like to seek an exemption for your child or would like to discuss further, please reach out to us: [email protected] Update (March 2024): Hello Edgar! I wanted to update you on a recent change to our visiting hours at BlocHaus Fyshwick. Kids aged 5 & up are able to climb weekdays before 5pm & now anytime on the weekend!
Fantastic experience: Love this place. Inclusive and friendly. Great place to climb, get fit, learn things and chill.
Thank you for the kind review, Jason! Hope to see you in-haus again soon!
Fantastic experience: A very large and well set bouldering space. A good range of mid grade climbs. Standard pricing.
Thank you, David! We're so glad you enjoy our boulders & space!
Fantastic experience: I thoroughly enjoy the time that I spend at Blochaus. Whilst I live at least 20mins away, the drive is well worth it to be welcomed into and encouraged in such a safe and exciting place. Blochaus makes bouldering easy and accessible, lowering barriers to climbing for all climbers whilst being fair and considerate of everyones experiences. The staff have always been very friendly to me, often asking about my favourite problems or how my day has been. They also make very good coffee, redbrick beans are 10/10 and they don't charge extra for plant-based milks, woohoo! I particularly like the community nights which run monthly and are available to everyone, welcoming groups of climbers who might traditionally find it scary or daunting to climb by themselves. SheBoulders hosted nights are not one to be missed at BlocHaus!
Chelsea! We're so happy to hear that you enjoy your time in-haus It's always a joy having you visit!
Negative experience: Come on team! No kids after 5pm or on the weekend without an exemption? No managers ever around to give out an exemption. I've been here 3 times during the week/end and never a manager about. I look at some of the "adults" at this gym and not only could my sons out climb them, indoor or outdoors, but they are also better versed in climbing gym etiquette. OMG, why even bother to have a family section in this gym? When did the Canberra gym climbing scene become so discriminating of kids, even when supervised by parents? Gym climbing holds need a bit of a clean and the newbs need to stop sitting on the mats. I almost fell over one climber coming off a yellow. This place is more about the policy than the climbing.
Hey Luke! Though we understand your disappointment, our Haus rules are in place for a structured & safe experience for everyone who visits our gym. Week nights & weekends are our busiest times in-haus & we find that it is a higher risk to kids under 10 who may not have the awareness & ability to navigate a full haus. We make exceptions for kids who have participated in a kids program or have prior bouldering experience & demonstrated safe bouldering etiquette. Our Kids programs include a gym membership & shoe hire for kids to make the most of their developing skills outside of our regular access hours. If you’d like to seek an exemption for your child, please reach out to us prior to your visit as we are unable to give on the spot exemptions: [email protected] Update (March 2024): Hey Luke! I wanted to update you on a recent change to our visiting hours at BlocHaus Fyshwick. Kids aged 5 & up are able to climb weekdays before 5pm & now anytime on the weekend!
Negative experience: My son started climbing at 2 and a half and loved Blockhaus. We're back in Canberra visiting family and coming for a climb was high on the to do list. But the new rules mean he can only watch, very disappointing. We won't be coming back even once he is deemed eligible to climb. Glad we now live interstate
Hi Rogan! Our FamilyHaus rules changed late last year in order to create a more structured & safe bouldering experience for everyone. Though we understand your disappointment, we have learnt that while we can reasonably expect older kids to have the awareness & ability to follow Haus rules, younger kids naturally want to play & have difficulty understanding fall zones & restricted areas. In saying this, if you were to reach out to us in advance about your visit we would be able to consider exceptions depending on the circumstance.
Fantastic experience: Something for every level, and always something new! I’ve been coming here each week for about a year. I can honestly say this is the only indoor physical activity thing that has kept my attention for that long. The staff are always lovely, and people climbing are friendly and supportive. I always feel good here, regardless of the day I’ve had. They re-set routes 3 times a week, so there’s pretty much always something new to try. I started out as a total beginner, so if that’s you then rest assured there’s plenty to keep you entertained while you build up strength. I’ve improved slowly and the mix of routes is great for that gradual progression. I’ve been to other climbing gyms and learned you can’t take this for granted! I notice there are a lot of really negative reviews lately about changes to the rules around kids in the centre. I’ve been at this place 2 or 3 times a week every week for the past 12 months. On the basis of what I’ve seen, I’m really glad they’ve tightened up the kids’ rules. I’ve seen some really scary near-misses involving loosely supervised kids, and had to stop some kids myself from doing random dangerous stuff (for their own and others’ safety). The owners and staff will be seeing the same stuff and they can’t just ignore that. I’ve also seen some younger kids doing great things (safely) in the adults area, so they’re obviously flexible if you can show your kid can operate safely. Parents, your particular kid might not be the problem, but trust me when I say those new rules are there for rational reasons. I have seen things I can’t unsee!
Thank you very much for your thoughtful review! We're so happy that you enjoy our Haus, climbs & vibes! We really appreciate you sharing what you love most about our space, as well as your empathetic & considerate reflection on our kids rule changes. We hope to see you in-haus soon!
Negative experience: Upon eagerly arriving at Blochaus with my nine and a half-year-old, our excitement quickly turned to sheer dismay when we were met with the devastating news that he wasn’t allowed to climb as he was to young,(having to be 10 and over)The heartbreak we experienced was akin to discovering a treasure chest only to have it vanish before our eyes! It’s absolutely imperative that Blochaus takes immediate action to enhance the clarity of their landing page regarding age restrictions. The disappointment we endured could have been likened to a cosmic collision of disappointment galaxies, creating a black hole of shattered hopes!
Hi Adam! Thank you for taking the time to leave a review & share your feedback. We’re very sorry for the disappointment experienced by you and your son. We are committed to continuously improving our communication & will be updating our landing page to have more information soon! Until then, please refer to our Kids page on our website for all of our FamilyHaus info (including age restrictions & supervision ratios) We hope to see you & your son in-haus soon – under 10s are able to climb on weekdays before 5pm! If your son is a keen climber, we encourage you to have a look at our kids programs as they come with a membership & greater access hours for the duration of the course. If you have any questions – please reach out to us at [email protected] Update (March 2024): Hello Adam! I wanted to update you on a recent change to our visiting hours at BlocHaus Fyshwick. Kids aged 5 & up are able to climb weekdays before 5pm & now anytime on the weekend!
Fantastic experience: Awesome venue. Staff are awesome and it's so relaxed and comfortable environment. Great for different skills and ages!!
Thanks so much for you lovely review, Jason! Hope to see you in-haus again soon!
Fantastic experience: Good vibes
Thank you for your kind review, Ayesha! ☺️
Fantastic experience: I basically live there
thanks for the 5 stars, Bohomouse! we love that you feel at home in-haus! hope to see you soon!
Negative experience: It's not worth the visit if you have little ones. Our 10 year old is an experienced climber and had to stay in the kids section, which he was bored with after 15min or so. So sat watching everyone else climb - Yes, we did read the info on the website for kids climbing. A lot of the holds also need a good clean as they were extremely slippery, shiny, and caked in chalk residue. We are members of a chain of bouldering gyms and expected similar rules at this gym, but it was the complete opposite.
Hi Hope! We appreciate your feedback regarding our FamilyHaus. Our rules are in place for a more structured & safe experience for everyone who visits our gym. Our FamilyHaus walls & climbs are cleaned & reset approximately 3 times per month, which means a new wall almost every week! The climbs are tailored for little ones & there are over 40 climbs of all difficulties to enjoy. As mentioned on our website, kids under 12 are able to apply for special access to our main gym if they have prior bouldering experience & have demonstrated safe bouldering etiquette! If you have any questions or want to talk to us about an exemption please reach out to us at [email protected]
Negative experience: Avoid if you have children and want a fun easy place to take them. This is not a place to take kids anymore unfortunately, as they have introduced a bunch of new dumb rules. 1:1 ratio and if your kid is under 6 they can just watch, if your kid is 6-9 you have to climb with the child. If you have 2 kids in the age group? You going to need two adults willing and able to climb. Also kids aren't allowed on the weekend? Familyhaus? Should be called Sadhaus
hi Justin, though we understand your disappointment in our rule changes, they are in place for a more structured & safe experience for, not only kids, but everyone who visits our gym. we encourage you to have a look at our kids programs, as we make exceptions for kids who have participated in them or have prior bouldering experience & have demonstrated safe bouldering etiquette. weekends are our busiest days in-haus & we find that it is a higher risk to kids under 10 who may not have the awareness & ability to safely navigate a full haus. in saying that, kids 10 & up are able to climb on weekends! if you have any questions or would like to discuss this further – please get in touch with us at [email protected]
Negative experience: The managers who clearly don't want kids coming here any more have now decided to enforce a 1:1 ratio of parents to kids. That's right, if you have more than 1 child, or are a single parent, they will only allow 1 child to climb. Conveniently mentioned when you walk in the door and not on the phone. Wish I could zero star this thing, and unable to properly review due to google terms of conditions around acceptable language, so 1 star it is. Update: after speaking to others who have been to BlocHaus since December last year it looks like the enforcement of the ratio depends on what staff member you get on what day. Well done. Seriously, if you don't want kids coming just ban them up front, don't make up safety stories (because you need 1:1 parent:child so you can belay them obviously - safety first!). Looks like I'm joining the increasing list of parents who won't come here again because it shouldn't take two parents taking coordinated leave from work just to take two kids. Who I really feel for in this are single parent families who are now effectively banned from attending unless they can convince a random over 18 off the street to come with them.
Hi David, Though we understand your frustrations, we do not appreciate or tolerate harassment & name calling under any circumstances (as per your original review) Our FamilyHaus information is widely available on our socials, website & in-haus & has been since late last year. as seen in the information flyer you posted, our 1:1 radio applies only to children 6-9 years of age. kids aged 10-11 & 12-15 have more flexible supervision ratios (1:4 & 1:6) Our counter crew do their best to navigate these rules while also being empathetic & reasonable – some days the Haus is busy & exceptions simply cannot be made. we love to have kids in-haus, however our priority is a safe experience for everyone who visits. We do make exceptions for kids who have participated in one of our kids program or have prior bouldering experience & have demonstrated safe bouldering etiquette. if you’d like to discuss this further – please get in touch with us at [email protected]
Negative experience: Rang in advance to see if we need to book in on a sunday with 5 kids and was told it was fine - just show up. Only to show up and be told no kids under 12 on the weekends including school holiday weekends. So disappointing, we have taken our kids there so many times and its a great facility but this new rule means we can't go back.
hi Megan! thank you for your feedback – we’re very sorry for the miscommunication from our end! our FamilyHaus rules changed late last year in order to create a more structured & safe bouldering experience for everyone. though we understand that this change limits the amount of time children under 10 can spend in the gym, we do make exceptions for kids who have participated in a kids program or have prior bouldering experience & have demonstrated safe bouldering etiquette we offer kids programs which utilise our FamilyHaus during the school term! these programs include a gym membership & shoe hire for kids to make the most of their developing skills. if you’d like to apply for special access or have any other questions, please get in touch with our manager at [email protected] — we’d be happy to speak to you more about this!
Fantastic experience: The friendliest staff and great boulder problems
Thanks so much for your lovely review, Agnes! Hope to see you in-haus again soon!
Fantastic experience: Great place for bouldering, tho need to pick your time you go as it is often after work very busy.
Thank you Arthur – we're so glad you enjoyed bouldering here!
Fantastic experience: Blokhaus is so good. Staff are friendly and accommodating. The problems are interesting, and the family Haus section is a great inclusion. I witnessed a large child being unsupervised by his parent routinely climb under and over other children on the wall, and this same child then fell onto their toddler relative who was jumping on the mat. I get that little kids will behave like this, however I totally understand why many climbing gyms exclude young children.
Thanks so much for the thoughtful review, Tim! We try & keep our climbs interesting! We recently changed our supervision ratios to make our Haus safer for all climbers. We hope our friendly crew can help next time you see anything concerning.
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff, great experience and reasonable price ($23 adults and $7 shoe hire). Blochaus has climbing walls for all different levels, ages and sizes. Toilets, coffee and gym also available at location. Dogs welcome. Overall blochaus is a friendly fun place to exercise and challenge yourself. Only gripe is with the membership monthly free friend entry which is calculated every 30 days instead of one per calendar month.
Thank you for your review Stephen! We're grateful you had a great experience in-haus & appreciate your feedback regarding the memberships!
Fantastic experience: Great climbing gym! Very good for entry level and intermediate climbers and the highest grade will provide a great challenge for experienced climbers. The gym has a nice upstairs training area with a spray wall, moonboard and campus board. The atmosphere is great. The staff are supper friendly and welcoming. The gym is incredibly supportive of all people from all walks of life. They offer special groups such as the climbing qt's and the affinity initiative. Great for kids as well with the special section devoted to kid's climbing.
Thanks so much! We really appreciate your kind review Narayan! Hope to see you in-haus again soon!
Fantastic experience: It was so fun thank you
We're glad you had a fun time in-Haus! Hope to see you again soon!
Negative experience: Great facilities, great vibe, great staff, great coffee… but no longer family friendly. They built a special section called Family Haus, complete with a slide. But now it seems they have change their target customer base as kids are essentially no longer welcome. It’s not enough to claim safety as the sole reason because my 4 year old understands the safety rules. Unfortunately this has ruled me and my partner out of coming as he’s no longer allowed to visit. Disappointing.
hey moose! thanks for reaching out – we’re grateful you’ve enjoyed our vibes, staff & coffee! our FamilyHaus rules have changed in order to create a more structured & safe bouldering experience for everyone. if you & your partner would like to come & climb together, this may still be possible by applying for special consideration we’d be happy to speak to you more about this – please get in touch with our manager at [email protected] & we can give you a buzz! Update (March 2024) Hi Moose! I wanted to update you on a recent change to our visiting hours at BlocHaus Fyshwick. Kids aged 5 & up are able to climb weekdays before 5pm & now anytime on the weekend!
Fantastic experience: I've only been bouldering for about 2 months but I have been to bouldering places in Australia and the US and this gym has always been at the top of my list for dynamic and enjoyable climbs, inclusivity, staff, and cleanliness. The decision to use coloured holds as the grading system instead of 'V-Grade' tags is a great decision as it doesn't let someone get hung up on the 'real' grades of the climbs (although you can estimate what they would be), and also makes the routes more readable from a distance. Great for beginners and pros, and everyone in between. The memberships can get pricey but it all depends on your perspective on what you want to get out of it. Would recommend to everyone!
Thanks so much for your review Andrew! We really appreciate the kind words!
Fantastic experience: Really good gym. You have friendly, helpful and kind staff. The way you run your social media is awesome, frequent reset sectors, it is all communicated and documented very well. Once when my friend fell and hurt herself, your team did a great job of looking after her. Thank you!
hey Ben! thank you for the kind review! we're so glad to hear you enjoyed your time in the Haus & will pass your feedback onto our wonderful crew! we hope your friend is doing better & we see you both around again soon
Negative experience: When blochaus first opened it was a very family friendly space with some rope climbs and a dedicated kids area. Then they expanded into a family section, leaving kids out of the majority of the gym. Kids cost almost the same as adults but can't even use most of the gym. Now they've restricted ages, made supervision ratios such that a parent can't even take more than one child over 6, and restricted times that kids are in the gyms. I have some keen climber kids who have been doing weekly lessons elsewhere since kindy. Unfortunately we won't be visiting blochaus again. Edit - I have read the response below and looked at the options for kids programs. They are close to double the price we pay for the kids do weekly lessons at a different gym. The other gym also lets them climb for free outside lesson times, making blochaus seem even more expensive. Unfortunately this response misses the mark for me, not being inclusive for average families looking for an active activity.
hey Carrie! our FamilyHaus rules are in place so that kids & parents can share climbing, play & problem-solving in a safe, dedicated space at BlocHaus. these new rules prioritise safety for climbers big & small & we are doing our best to make these new rules as fair & consistent as possible for the many families that access our space. on our family haus page, you can find some info on greater access for kids that have participated in our kids programs & meet the criteria for safe use of the gym — please have a look & get in touch if you have any further questions. Update (March 2024): Hello Carrie! I want to update you on a recent change to our visiting hours at BlocHaus Fyshwick. Kids aged 5 & up are able to climb weekdays before 5pm & now anytime on the weekend! Our supervision ratios have also changed since your last visit, please check out our website for all the details – https://cbr.blochaus.com.au/family-haus/
Fantastic experience: Awesome spot to spend a few hours!
thanks for your kind review chris!
Fantastic experience: Probably the best bouldering gym in Canberra
we're very chuffed you think so — thanks for the kind review Christopher!
Fantastic experience: The inclusive and friendly vibe make this a special place to be, it's really well set up too.
Thanks for the lovely review, Nara! We love seeing you in-haus!
Fantastic experience: I go twice a week its great fun and amazing for fitness 10/10
thank you Jade! we appreciate your kind words
Fantastic experience: Lost a few pounds since last climb. This place might be easier when lighter but also fun and rewarding. Makes me want to stay fit. Good vibe when we all came. Will return once again
thanks for taking the time to leave us a review John! we're glad to hear you enjoyed your time in Haus — see you again soon!
Fantastic experience: Fun bouldering experience. The liquid chalk dispensers are much appreciated
thanks for the kind words David! see you in the Haus again soon!
Fantastic experience: Fantastic for people of all ages!!!! Great coffee, music and lovely staff
Hey Naomi, We super happy to hear everyone had a great time. See you again soon.
Fantastic experience: I had one gripe before about there being no grading, but the staff member who replied pointed out they had a moon wall. Plus they just turned an entire wall into slab, 10/10 would send again. ... If you are ever out of ideas... Add more crack
Hey James, thanks for your feedback! Our colour system is in place to open the door to everyone being able to try a wide range of boulders & leaving room for the nuance of individual experiences on the wall. If you’re interested in benchmarking your climbing & exploring grades, we’d recommend the moon board or spray wall upstairs! We’re glad to hear you enjoy our fresh resets & we hope they feed your progression & fun for Haus visits to come.
Fantastic experience: Great place - my kids loved it!
Thanks for your review John. See you & the kids again soon!
Positive experience: Nice venue and staff but the setting is very average. Setters could learn something from the urban climb crew.
Hey Matt thanks for your feedback! We are glad to hear you enjoyed our facilities & our hard working staff. We love what the crew at Urban Climb do, but are proud of our setting philosophy & team here at CBR — they're a friendly bunch & we're sure they'd love to answer any questions you might have next time you're in
Fantastic experience: Visiting from out of town. This was a great gym. Friendly staff, great boulder setting, really good training area with weights, campus boards, moon board, spray wall. I had a good workout.
Thanks for your review. We're glad to hear you had a great time testing out the Haus facilities, see you again soon.
Positive experience: Cool place. Kids love it very much (they are 7 and 5 years old). Good place for the parents too, there's cafe, toilet, table bench to sit down.
Hi there! Thanks for your feedback, we’re glad to hear the whole family had fun visiting us. See you again soon.
Negative experience: The worst signage I've ever seen. Lovely staff. Great interior. The three missing stars are signage and design.
hey Aaron! we're sorry to hear you were let down by the signage at BlocHaus CBR we take a lot of pride in our Haus & are always looking for ways to improve — we'd love to know more about how we could've facilitated a better experience for you, please reach out! team CBR [email protected]
Negative experience: Not a great crew on the reception this morning. We (customers) get it, work isn't great and shame you have to work on the weekend - but you still need to keep it together and do your job professionally. Pretty rude little man behind the counter this morning and his negative energy was rubbing off on the others. As a customer you shouldn't have to grin and bear it while having an average interaction with some dude who doesn't want to be there, just to hand over your money and then get on with your training. Cheers PS noted the unusual response from the owners below, a bit disturbing and confirms the bad vibe experienced at Blochaus the other weekend. Sorry your staff were having such a bad day the other weekend, but equally I don't like dealing with rude people (staff) on a Saturday in a supposedly inclusive and welcoming place - note I was very polite and friendly, but you do get a review. If your staff are rude to customers, you will have to expect to get a negative review - reviews are the great part of the inclusive, open and diverse community :). The Blochaus the other weekend was not a welcoming place - so here's your review. Your best option is to take it on board and learn. I would suggest how about you teach your staff to treat the paying, friendly customers with respect as a start. Best of luck. Cheers :)
Hey Patrick, our team had a particularly tough day over the weekend as our system went down & they were working to make sure everyone had as smooth & safe a visit as possible. It’s important to us that our crew are treated with respect whether it be in person or how they are referred to online. We’d be happy to speak to you more about this, but unfortunately cannot find you in our system. You are welcome to get in touch with our manager at [email protected]
Negative experience: Today, I was keen to give few entrances to my friend from my account. I request this at the bar. The guy didn't want to spend few minutes to sort me out and he was so rude and arrogant to my friend and me and told us to come back another day. We definitely didn't like his behaviour at all. After this episode, I am going to have a membership at the Duncun's gym where the staff is more friendly and professional.
Hey Edward, thank you for your feedback, our crew are always here to help & we’re sorry to hear your experience in Haus didn't meet our usual standards. We’d love to follow up on your request, we couldn't find you in our system unfortunately. Please feel free to shoot our team an email, we’re happy to help & hope we’ll see you in the Haus again soon. team CBR [email protected]
Positive experience: Still a fun place to go for a while, but since the changes to family Haus it's definitely lost a lot of appeal for us. Its still fun, but ages under ten now being so heavily restricted as to be practically unwelcome isn't great. It's a shame for us, as it's a fun sport, even if we do suck at it. If you don't have young kids the community seems friendly and the facility and sport are both good... So would definitely recommend it, if that's you.
Hello John! Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback! We're sorry to hear the changes to FamilyHaus have impacted you. Week nights & weekends are our busiest times in-haus & we find that it is a higher risk to kids under 10 who may not have the awareness & ability to navigate a full haus. In saying this, we have pathways for kids under 10 to climb outside of regular hours. We make exceptions for kids who have participated in a kids program or have prior bouldering experience & demonstrated safe bouldering etiquette. Our kids programs include a gym membership & shoe hire for kids to make the most of their developing skills outside of the regular access hours We're glad you still have fun in-haus despite the changes & we hope to see you all again soon – the best thing about bouldering is that you don't have to be the best at it to have a good time together! Please reach out to us at [email protected] if you have any questions or would like to discuss anything further. Update (March 2024): Hello John! I want to update you on a recent change to our visiting hours at BlocHaus Fyshwick. Kids aged 5 & up are able to climb weekdays before 5pm & now anytime on the weekend!
Fantastic experience: Best climbing gym on the east coast I have been to so far! Can't wait to come back! So much space and well set up. The climbs are
wow Georgina! We're super glad you enjoyed your time in the Haus as much as we do, see you again soon.
Fantastic experience: Solid gym, really well set out and wicked climbs. Can't wait to visit again soon. Newphews, niece and sister loved their first time as well. Any chance of expanding west side???
Thanks for your feedback. We love seeing new faces having fun in the gym. Keep an eye on our social media for any possible expansions. We hope to see you all in Haus again soon.
Fantastic experience: Great place. Highly recommend for a boulder and burger later at capital brewing.
Thanks JP we're glad you had a great time in the Haus. Boulders, burgers & beer what more could you want.
Fantastic experience: Awesome helpful and friendly staff a great layout with lots of challenges. Loved our visit.
Glad to hear you had great time! we look forward to seeing you again soon.
Fantastic experience: Without Glen's help, I may well be lost wandering around the outskirts of Canberra to this day! He is Canberra's sweetest man and I will fight anyone who disagrees! Also! The route-setting was absolutely bangin'!
We're so glad Glen could lead you safely to the Haus! He's a real gem! We hope to see you back in Canberra to enjoy the climbs & company sometime soon!
Positive experience: First timers, will be going again. Just would be nice to have a wider walkthrough between the mats as it's a squeeze to get past people standing around
Thanks for the feedback Elizabeth. We're glad you had a great first time and look forward to seeing you again soon.
Fantastic experience: Great place to wear out the kids.
Fantastic experience: Great climbing.
Fantastic experience: Thank you.
Negative experience: Really disappointed - as I have just moved to Canberra and with one of my passions being bouldering, I visited this specific bouldering gym on a recommendation. I was underwhelmed with the service received when I walked in the door to enquire about joining up for a 6 or 12 month membership. The facilities looked clean and extremely enjoyable. However due to the lack of customer service and disinterest from the staff member at the counter I’ll be looking for a different gym. It goes to show that you can have the best equipment but if you don’t have the customer service to compliment said equipment you could miss out on new customers.
Hey Rhys! Welcome to town & thank you for your feedback — we're sorry your experience in Haus didn't meet our usual standards We'd love to find out more about your visit & see how we can improve for next time, please feel free to reach out to the team at [email protected] We hope you can give bouldering at BlocHaus another chance, looking forward to hearing from you soon. Team CBR
Fantastic experience: Excellent facility, very nice and helpful staff, and well priced. Plus, it's got a great kids part suitable for about 3-4+. Excellent
Hi Callum, thanks for the review! We're glad you had a great time and we hope to see you again soon.
Fantastic experience: Great afternoon
Thanks for the feedback Teresa! Hope to see you in the Haus again soon
Positive experience: Great place to bring the kids for a day out rock climbing.
Thanks for your kind review L! We're glad to hear you & the kids enjoyed your time in Haus. If there's anything we can do to make your next visit a 5-star one, we'd love to know! Always striving to be boulder & better
Fantastic experience: Good area for kids and grown ups
Fantastic experience: Absolutely fantastic experience! Couldn't be any better. The best gym I have been ever! I should give it 10 stars If I can. The only thing you guys can improve maybe is to open another gym in north Canberra, for example Mitchell, i know there is another rock climbing place in Mitchell, but you guys are absolutely doing much better bouldering than them!!!! btw, I have to give 12/10 for their service, lovely staff there, nice and patient. 2 More scores are given to their good coffee, and pet-friendly counter.
Hey Qinger! Thank you for your very kind review! We're chuffed to say that you are in luck because we will indeed have a gym opening in Mitchell in the near future! Keep an eye on our social media for more updates, we hope to see you in the Haus again soon!
Positive experience: The gym itself is great, it does what it needs to do and I have no issues there The check-in is mind numbing. You sign in then line up to pay. Move in to the 21st century guys.
Hi Luke, we’re glad to hear you enjoyed the facilities & sorry to hear your check-in experience wasn’t satisfactory. For future visits, please head straight to the counter to check-in & pay! The tablet signs-in are for first-time visitors to sign their waivers & member check-ins only. we hope your next visit goes a little more smoothly. :)
Positive experience: Great place, great staff but it is so stinking hot and sweaty. More fans or AC please
Fantastic experience: Awesome bouldering place in Canberra. Super friendly staff, good pricing, and very well set up, including a cafe. Very chilled place to enjoy a fun activity.
Hi Cameron, Thanks for the great review. We're glad you had great time. See you again soon!
Fantastic experience: Only just heard of this place but wish I had sooner. Took my 2 children here and they had so much fun. I love the vibe of the place and that the space is so open and bright and the kids section is separated from the adults. The kids sections was very well designed having a slide at the top.
Thanks Gloria! We're glad the kids had a great time in the Family Haus. We look forward to seeing you all again soon.
Fantastic experience: A great experience for my child. Large facility and a section for all levels and ages.
Fantastic experience: welcoming of all!! and queer friendly ️️⚧️
Thanks Nicola! We love seeing everyone have great time in the Haus. We hope to see you again soon.
Fantastic experience: Amazing place, nice problems, huge areas with diferent levels to suit everyone, showers, classes to improve climbing, strenght, yoga!friendly helpful staff

Positive experience: Nice place to take children in wet cold weather.
Thanks for your review Irene! we're chuffed to hear you & your kids enjoyed your time in Haus, please let us know if there's anything we can do to make your next visit a 5-star one. Hope to see you again soon! ⭐️
Fantastic experience: Amazing place having just got my membership I've been going almost everyday and absolutely loving it.
Glad to hear you’re enjoying the space Harry!
Fantastic experience: After climbing at a few other places, I've noticed that the staff and management here take a lot of effort to cater for a large range of climbers and they have almost doubled in size. They climbs are colour coded to make it easy to pick something at your level. They change the climbs one-by-one every few weeks. This helps make sure the rocks don't get to smooth and keeps people coming back to try the new climbs. They get creative with some of them and it can be fun trying to figure some out. They have bottles of what must be hand sanitiser and chalk for people to use. The general upkeep is good with replacement and maintenance. It's a fun place to go with either kids or friends.
Thanks for the great review Michael. We do our best!
Fantastic experience: Blochaus is great, staff are friendly, other patrons are friendly, climbs are fun and unique and definitely worth the money. Even when the place is busy it's not hard to find a spot or squeeze in with others. Only criticism I have is that the blues seem a little bit too hard. If you've done any climbing at all they're no problem but when I took my absolute beginner friends they struggled a lot and were put off a bit by the high barrier to entry. I love the uniqueness and the effort that goes into making even the beginner climbs unique and fun but it wouldn't hurt to have a jug ladder or two in plain sight so beginners can get comfortable on the wall.
Hey Hayden, thanks for such a great review! We really value our new climbers and appreciate your feedback on the introductory climbs at our Haus. We'll pass this on to our setters! Thanks for letting us know, we look forward you having you over again soon.
Fantastic experience: Clim
Fantastic experience: Good place to hang out
Thanks Sean!
Fantastic experience: Awesome! A lot of fun.
We’re glad you had a good time Roderick. We think it’s fun too!
Fantastic experience: Lots of fun. Bit busy. Definitely helps to be with someone who knows what they are doing but the staff are super helpful.
Thanks Jo! We do our best.
