Negative experience: ****PLEASE READ THIS IF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT GETTING A MEMBERSHIP HERE!!!!****** Let me begin by saying, I genuinely have never had a worse experience at a gym, let alone any other situation before. The moment I came in to cancel my membership, I knew the interaction was going to be bad, but I didn't know HOW bad. I walked up to reception where the owner was and said I had emailed him, and before I could finish, he said, "I get a lot of emails so just give me your name," and scoffed. He continued to tell me that I needed to pay 3 fortnights payments because there was this rule in the contract that said if I canceled, it had to be two days in advance of the next payment (even though i emailed him more than 2 days prior). So 6 weeks of payment, when I would be leaving in 2 weeks. I understand a contract is a contract, yes, but I expressed my concern and disappointment with this system, and I (as nicely as possible) asked him why he had this system set in place for his members, especially when most of them are from abroad, and he won't let you cancel your membership online unless you pay another $50 additional fee. Oh boy, this really boiled this man's blood and he took it personally. He started asking me if I knew how to read, and started passive aggressively raising his voice telling me I should go back to school and learn how to read the contract. Wow. After he made that comment, I mentioned that his system was literally set in place as a cash grab to make the most money out of his members. Upon seeing other terrible reviews, I can see that this is a universal experience. And please keep in mind, this is the OWNER. Anyways, I tell him I just want to pay and cancel my membership, and then he says all of a sudden he has a really important call and then disappears for 10 minutes. I wait, and when he finally comes out I ask him that if I put in my notice of leave now, when would be the last day I would be able to use the gym. He gets angry again and yells at me to just read the contract, and when I tell him that he should maybe calm down, he starts laughing and tells ME to calm down. He says "Go find an adult and come back. My age is your experience, so watch your tongue. If I was your age, I would be in a better place than you, be better than you, and more than you are." There is clearly a lot of deep unresolved issues this guy has with himself. I sighed and muttered to myself, "jesus christ" and this man goes "oh yeah, you believe in jesus? You're religious?" in an attempt to mock me. Like what??? He also says he could charge me TWO months instead of 2 weeks if he wanted, since he was the owner of the place and implied he could do whatever he wanted. At this point I just want to cancel my membership and go back to uni to study, and at the end he sees my phone up (because I had my calendar app up to look at dates), and he says ARE YOU RECORDING ME?? I go, no...and he says "I will SUE you if you are." I disregard this, and ask him when my last day to use this gym is, and he says today is my last day, which is just not what I said, because I was giving my notice for two weeks today but I still wanted to use it before I left. He said if I wanted to change this, I had to email him but he didn't have time for this and then he left back into his office. Amazing, I know. And this is only the terrible management side of things. If you want to talk about equipment and the facility itself, the power went out the other night during mid-workout, there are broken equipment that don't get replaced, the bathroom was out of order for a while, I saw a couple cockroaches on the leg extension machine, and on top of that, there is literally NO ONE in the gym. Like I am telling you nobody comes to this gym, and probably for a good reason. I truly do not know how this gym is still open. Save yourself the trouble and struggle and find a good gym; something I should have done. To the owner, Praveen, I still don't know how to read so I'm surprised I even wrote this review. Help a brother out and read it for me.
Negative experience: DON’t GO TO THIS GYM!! I went there last year while I was living in Sydney for 6 months and hated the gym. Really dirty, the machines are old and not safe at all. Just kept on going there because it was cheap but then ended up canceling the membership because I couldn’t handle it anymore. After 8, EIGHT MONTHS, after I cancel it, I receive an email saying that my membership was not cancelled and now Im owing a big amount of money to the gym…. I really can’t believe this and this is the worst experience that I had in a gym… Not organised at all! Better to pay a little more but at least you’re spending your money well! Never coming back again

Negative experience: New: I do not recall breaking the rules 3 times. Yes, the scale part was my fault which I stated. However, it states that I can use it in the contract. Yes, I let in a MEMBER to the gym. How am I putting other members safety at risk? If anything, the gym equipment is putting members at risk. I saw a review that said one of the cables was broken many months ago. The cable was still there and not fixed during the time I workout at the gym. Its a shame that the maturity of the staff is so poor that situations could not have been concluded with a simple conversation as adults. Old: I am an exchange student from the USA coming to Australia for a semester. I regularly went to the gym back home and wanted to continue when coming to Aus. Broadway gym was the closest gym to me so I decided to join with one of my friends. All was good until I went behind the desk after hours to use the BMI scale as the normal one was low on batteries and not working. A worker came storming out of the back room telling me I wasn’t supposed to be back there, saying that the scale was $10,000 and that I could break it and overall being very rude. However, I understand I wasn’t suppose to be back there but it says in the contract that I have access to the machine. Anyways, that incident was my fault and I understood that but It wasn’t a big deal. A while later I was going to try to hit a pr on the bench press and my friend was near the gym so I asked if he could come spot me. Yes I could have asked someone around me but it would be more fun if he was there. He was a member also. So I let him in the gym because he forgot his key fob but he was just staying to spot me and then he would leave. As I was about to start benching the same worker again came out of the back room and told me I couldn’t let my friend in (a member). I said I understood and said that he was going to leave after the spot. (my friend also goes to broadway gym regularly so the guy knew he was a member). He claimed that by letting my friend in he could get hurt and it wasn’t allowed. But if he got hurt the gym wouldn’t have to pay because he was also a member! Also thats what the guard rails are for on the bench, so you don't get hurt. He became mad that I let my friend in and had him leave and took me to the front desk. He said since I let my friend in I had to pay $250 or have my account terminated due to breaking the rules. After I decides to terminate my account I asked if I could just buy a day pass because I was already at the gym and just wanted to workout. He denied it which I guess was stupid of me for asking because of course he wouldn’t. Not a chill guy. I just wanted to workout. It wasn’t that deep of a problem. In conclusion, terrible staff, terrible equipment just went because cheap and close. No chill what so ever. Worst gym Ive ever been too and Ive been to a lot. I DO NOT RECOMMEND. GO LITERALLY ANYWHERE ELSE IF YOU ACTUALLY WANT TO WORKOUT.

Negative experience: Went for a trial after registering for one. The gentleman at the reception wanted me to provide a document which had my local address to show that I’m living nearby. My lease had expired recently and I had moved to a rolling contract. Btw, I live right across to the gym. Seeing that my contract had expired, I was denied a trial, reason being “we can’t just let anyone roaming around in the area take a trial”. So, I can have a membership if I live far away but can’t take a trial (in my case, I live right across). The only problem was due to my rolling contract, I have not been provided any rental agreement which shows a future expiry date by my leasing agent. The gentleman said “you have to be a resident nearby, otherwise what if you suddenly decide to relocate?” then why do you give membership to people who live far away? The logic seems to be flawed. Anyways, despite my best attempts to prove my residence (bank statements, etc), the gentleman seemed unwilling to even consider my case. I had planned to get a free trial and register for a membership right afterwards. Bottomline: I live right across the gym, I can’t get a free trial but I can get a membership.

Negative experience: Edited to prove I was in fact a *former* client at this gym since the manager is being petty as usual. I still stand by my review. Agree with all the commenters below - beware of this gym and its owner/ management (who clearly is a disgruntled person and lacks basic customer service and social awareness skills)

Negative experience: Very dodgy and unprofessional gym! Cancelled my gym membership as it is dirty, dark, and smells of mould and mildew. Disgusting gym- I guess that’s why it’s cheap, it is very unsanitary. When I cancelled they were rude, and refused to give me a receipt. I waited at reception for 45min and demanded a receipt, so that I have proof I paid the $81.00 cancellation fee and am provided with a date I can access the gym until. I have access until the 26th of August according to my receipt, yet today on the 11th, my key fob doesn’t work and I cannot access the gym. This is very dodgy and unprofessional practice. Stay far away from this place, people leave 5 star reviews so they can get a free drink bottle. Really this is a 0 star place- horrible! Do yourself a favour and go anywhere else.
Negative experience: ABSOLUTELY HORRIFIC EXPERIENCE. DO NOT GO HERE! I signed up to the Broadway Gym because I was on a trip to Sydney for 4 weeks and their website stated they had a minimum membership term of 4 weeks. When I went to cancel, they told me it was a 6 week minimum. I showed them their own website and they argued with me. They changed the website that night. When I sent an email with the original screenshot of the website, they rudely responded and said that they had an audio recording of me agreeing to the terms in person, which did not happen. Also, by the way, it is very much ILLEGAL in NSW to record audio without consent of all parties involved. Anyway, false advertising aside, two weeks worth of membership fees weren't enough to lose my sanity over, so I agreed to pay the full six weeks and asked them to cancel my membership as soon as possible. It has now been FOUR MONTHS and they are STILL CHARGING ME. No matter how many times I have emailed and called, they are still charging my card. Disgusting service. I'm considering taking this matter to court, but in the meantime, don't make the same mistake I did - go to literally any other gym.

Fantastic experience: Student-Friendly Environment: The gym offers a welcoming atmosphere for students. It’s clear that the management understands the needs of students and provides a supportive environment. Onboarding and Offboarding: The onboarding process was smooth and efficient, making it easy to get started. The offboarding process, when I decided to leave, was handled with professionalism and care the owner helped to exist smoothly. Facility Quality: The gym itself is well-maintained and provides a good variety of equipment. It’s a pleasant place to work out, with clean facilities and a comfortable atmosphere. Negative experience: Don't come here. They'll charge you when you leave. Old equipment。However, I overpaid a lot of money when I was cancelled, and finally I paid about $240 more. When I discussed with you why I had to pay so much more, you were very impatient, and you told me that if I didn't pay, I would be deducted all the time.

Negative experience: I'm trying to contact the gym by phone to cancel a debit on my account. I signed a 3-month plan at the gym and I haven't been using the gym for a few months and they are debiting my money from my account without me using the gym. I contacted them by phone and they hung up the phone. The service provided by the academy is terrible and I am having difficulty canceling my enrollment.

Fantastic experience: Great customer service provided by the staff. I ran into some issues with my freezing policies and the manager, Praveen, was kind enough to help me out regarding the whole issue. Overall a very good gym for students who are looking for nominal rates, and has all the equipments that you would need for a perfect workout.

Negative experience: New: He terminated my contract. When I asked on what basis he was terminating, he said I was harassing him, even though all I did was ask questions( read the old one below). It's a shame someone could go to such an extent to do this to an international student. The very staff claimed to be the owner later. Also, he didn't return the full money; as for students, it's 15 dollars per week. Actions have consequences, and his unlawful actions, too, will have (I will leave it there). Hope this review helps someone. Old: the staff is rude. I asked him to swap one of the old benches that is still in use, and which I had seen used in front of me. It's kept in the room above. It has an incline option of 15 degrees which the new benches doesn’t have in our floor. However, he rudely refused to replace it. When I inquired if I could speak to someone with higher authority, he stated that he was the highest authority there and still refused, and continuing to be rude. As said by someone before, they do offer a free bottle for reviews. Guess I won't be getting a bottle, lol.

Negative experience: I'm unable to use the gym, even after payment! Awful customer service! I've paid for a full month non-direct debit plan, and an additional 30 Dollars for a key-fob which would have been refunded. After 10 days of using the gym, I almost left the country for personal reasons, so I asked my friend (who used his card for a one-time payment) to return the fob and collect the deposit for the same. Turned out I didn't need to leave the country and wanted to use the facilities for the remaining period I had on my active membership, which would have been another 10 days, and for that I needed a new fob which I was happy to pay for and be refunded at the end as previously. The man at the reception made zero effort to help me, insisting this membership was cancelled because the fob was returned, he told me this would be in the contract but then we didn't find this point in the contract. For him to tell me that it wasn't in the contract but the refund wasn't there either. So it feels like they're making rules on the go. I asked to speak to management and I got an email to reception, which most obviously bounces back to the same person, so after a few days they said "We couldn't get in touch with the customer who actually paid. Money was released because he raised a dispute." BUT THE MONEY OF THE MEMBERSHIP WAS NEVER RETURNED TO ANYONE. Awful experience to have to go through mid holidays. Gym is below of expected level of cleanliness Always lacking paper in the toilets Many bits and bobs to be fixed Parts of the gym used as storage NOT RECOMMENDED

Negative experience: They weren't clear with the terms and conditions. After almost 1 year of been there, I feel cheated because I over pay more than expected definitely. In answer to your response: In fact my annoyance is related to the fact that I had to pay 40 dollars at the beginning for a key that I won't use anymore and the answer of the staff is: keep it. Show me in your clauses where it says I have to keep a key that I will no longer use, but beyond that, answer honestly whether keeping a key that will no longer be used makes sense. The business is round along with the additional two weeks, at $80 per dead trailer for each person who leaves is a great return. But don't worry, you will surely get rich that way.
Hi Jairo, Firstly thank you for being a member with us for 1 year. $40.54 is the fortnightly notice payment for which you can train for another 2 weeks. Notice is required to cancel a membership and cannot be cancelled on the spot. It is clearly stated in contract as well. Point 21- "21. No Commitment contract cannot be cancelled on joining day & requires a notice of one future payment in the normal billing cycle". If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to contact us.

Negative experience: Equipment is very old, plenty broken such as handles for much of the machine set ups. Quite which is nice but not surprising as to why it’s quite. Expect a battle when attempting to end you contract, on my 3rd attempt and now being hit with the ‘ this will involve a 50$ admin fee’ when no cancellation fees were advertised upon signing up

We advised you that you are on a 3 month contract and cannot cancel membership and if you cannot attend gym then will be $50 admin fee if you cancel online. Negative experience: They have many good reviews cuz you can get free gift if you leave a good review. Bad reviews are real stories! Really bad experience, a month ago, it was a monday, I came to the gym and ask for a suspension cuz I have no time to do workout at that time, and the staff said it’s too late our system almost closed, i thought that’s ok I ll back the next day. The next day i came to the gym again, the staff told me the Thursday is the due and the fee would be charged, so he can’t suspend my card immediately, suspension would start in two weeks. And now I want cancel my card, the email doesn’t work, that’s really annoying. Today I came to cancel my card they told me I have to pay next four weeks fee then I can cancel it, because I didn't cancel three days in advance. That’s really annoying. I hope this gym close as soon as possible. I waste 120 dollars on that stupid gym, 30 for suspension, 30 for the first week after the suspension, paid but can’t open the door, 60 for cancel card. Stupid policy, terrible experience, terrible gym, terrible equipment. Really sad. It’s necessary to let people know how the gym is.

Negative experience: ****If the real owner of the gym sees this review, please contact me directly. I have asked your employee to have you follow up with me, but I’m sure he will not pass that message along. I was injured when a maintenance-neglected cable machine broke at your gym**** I was a member of this gym for just over 1 year before cancelling tonight. On Friday, the 16th of August, a cable on one of the functional trainers snapped while I was using it. (Photo included) I had the weight set to only around 40% of the weight stack. I have used this exact piece of equipment at the gym for over a year at this gym, and many others like it throughout my life. Under no circumstances should these cables ever snap, this is incredibly dangerous. The other functional trainer at the gym has a cable that is severely damaged and incredibly dangerous. (I have attached photos of this as well, you be the judge) This is incredibly dangerous because the cable’s integrity is compromised and the weight stack goes up to around 50 kilograms. That day I did not see any staff present to report this machine to. Saturday/Monday I would warn anyone I saw going to this machine that it is damaged. When they’ve all seen the damage, they’ve all thanked me and avoided using it for their safety. This evening I showed the one staff member the machine and politely express my concern for the safety of the members using it. I asked him to lock it out to prevent it from being used until it can be repaired for everyone’s safety. The staff member was extremely rude to me for making this request of him. He told me he was not trained and it had to be looked at by a professional. I told him that it needs to be out of service until that time, before a member gets hurt and he very rudely told me I was being unreasonable and refused to take any action. He insisted on leaving this dangerous compromised machine in use. Have a look at the photo of the damaged cable and you be the judge. This machine is still in use at the gym at this very moment and is extremely dangerous. This staff member replied to me very rudely and condescending, just like you can see in his rebuttals to the poor reviews on this page. I pleaded with him to do the right thing and expressed that it’s even a liability issue for the business. He continued to be rude and condescending to me. I cannot believe that this is the response from a gym employee on such a major safety issue at the gym he works at. These cables do not get this damaged without months or years of neglect. Obviously this piece of equipment has not been maintained or inspected by staff for several months or maybe even years to get to this point. Given the lack of concern for member safety and the horrible way I was spoken to and treated this evening I chose to terminate my membership immediately. The employee never even asked if I was okay when I told him the machine’s cable snapped during use on Friday. I have included photos of the cable that snapped on me during routine use, as well as the functional trainer’s damaged cable that is still in use. ****I am really hoping that the owner of the gym will see this and get in contact with me ASAP regarding what happened to me on Friday at the gym.****

Negative experience: That's the first bad review I've given since I arrived in Sydney. Why? Today, I went to the gym to discuss the membership freeze with the staff. There was no one at the front desk, and when I looked inside the studio, I vaguely saw the staff member drinking water at the door, and he was facing me sideways, so I tapped on the door slightly. When I saw that he didn't respond, I thought that maybe the music was so loud so that he didn't hear it, so I tapped on the door again, my intention was just to get him to notice me, and then I went back to the front desk to wait, and I was pretty sure that the staff was standing in a position where he couldn't see the front desk. When I hit him the fourth time, he still did not move, I do not believe that a person can drink in the same position for about 2 minutes. The key thing is that the door is transparent, which makes it hard not to believe that it wasn't intentional. When I finally opened the door slightly, he immediately yelled at me to get out. I realized something was wrong and immediately closed the door and kept saying sorry. He then stormed out and told me that the room was private, and I kept saying sorry with friendly attitude But he didn't stop, asking me what I wanted to do in a very nasty way, frowning all the time, muttering, something vulgar. That's what happened. I'm sorry again for opening the door. It was definitely my fault. But I don't think it's a good idea for a gym staff member to shout to a customer to get out in an extremely rude manner. If the customer is new to Sydney and has a different cultural background, the employee comes out and kindly says Sir, this is the staff lounge, I hope you don't open it next time. If you handled it this way, solved the problem and left a good impression on the customers, then I'm sure the gym's rating would be more than a pathetic 3.8. This comment is just to share my personal experience and wish the gym good in the future. If you still think it's all my fault, okay, I accept that.
Hi Xujie Shen, Staff are allowed to drink water for 2 minutes or whenever they feel thirsty even during shift hours. As we have explained to you it is not acceptable to enter a closed door which says “private”. Also there was a sign on reception desk that says staff is away and call the number for assistance. Fantastic experience: This is a 24/7 gym with complete equipment and fair price. You can registered for membership on the official website and then walk in for key in staffed hours. The indoor environment is excellent and not crowded, making it suitable for hobbyist to train.

Fantastic experience: Have been a member of Broadway Gym since October 2022. The gym is well equipped with a variety of weighted and pinned equipment. I choose to go at a quieter time and find it easy to complete a workout without a crowd and waiting for my turn to use equipment. Chose Broadway Gym after its move to Broadway Shopping Centre after COVID lockdowns. Can highly recommend

Negative experience: Direct debit payment was taken from account despite the lockdown ordered by public health. First of all that should not happen. Email sent by the company at the time said that could redeem extra weeks at a later stage at least. Called the gym today, owner said this will not be honoured. Very dodgy business! I will be taking this issue to fair trading, like the poster below.

Negative experience: I was a member of this gym for nearly 3 years. The gym is reasonably equipped. Although it is cramped and poorly maintained, you can get a decent workout. However the management of this gym is truly a shoddy operation, in my opinion. The owner of this gym will get you to sign an unenforceable contract claiming numerous 'fees' then change it after the fact - see their website. Gym rules - like keep it tidy - will not be enforced, unless there is an opportunity to try make you buy a towel. The owner will write (anonymous) emails in a threatening tone should he ever see an opportunity to try to squeeze one of these 'fees' from a client (brave!). They will continue charging fees during covid lockdowns and will not provide reimbursement even when taken to NSW Fair Trading. Last, but not least, they will slander former members by claiming that their membership was cancelled for bad behaviour (see other reviews here - getting in now lest the same or similar occur for this review). Try USyd gym or Camperdown Fitness. Even Fernwood's better!
Fantastic experience: I highly recommend this gym. Great location, all equiptment that you need and open 24/7 for a very affordable price. The second floor is really spacious so you can stretch comfortably.
Negative experience: You'll pay more than you were expecting. Many machines old and need maintenance. Actually the worst gym I've trained at. I'd recommended Anytime or Beats gym instead
Fantastic experience: It is my local gym, very well priced and stocked with all the equipment I need for a solid workout. No pretenses here, very much an old school gym as they used to be. Staff are professional and helpful, and you don't pay for a multitude of things you don't use. Very happy there.
Negative experience: Tried to cancel my membership multiple times during the COVID-19 pandemic because I was concerned about my health. I was told by the staff that cancelling by phone or email would cost an additional $50. I asked whether they could send the form by email and I would drop it past the gym, apparently this still cost $50!! Cancelling your membership remotely during a pandemic should be made as easy as possible. This gym cares little for the health of it's members, the gym is always messy, the bathrooms and changing rooms unclean. DO NOT GET MEMBERSHIP HERE!! 0/5 stars

Negative experience: The Gym without fees.... where you need to pay fees. I came one day to become member of the gym after checking the site. In the site says very clear that you have different options available, ones more expensive than the others, but you don't pay any kind of fees in any of them. Once I come to become member there's a blonde gilr asking me which plan I want. I answer, the weekly one without fees. Then she gives me a fotocopy to fill in which it's written that the first payment is 79 dollars. I ask if this is for the first two weeks and they tell me that I need to pay for the key and that the first payment is like that. The problem is that the payment for the key is not-refundable. You pay 40 dollars for a key(when the door is open) which you can't give back. A fee. I decided then not to become member. And thanks God. Cos when I left I checked all the comments in Google. All the Covid situation, closing down without telling the members, answering their mails or giving them the money back. It can't be a coincidence that many people complain at the same time. I haven't tried the gym. Nor did I do the free trial. So I can't talk about how the gym is. It looks like an old fashioned gym. Which I like. But that is not an excuse to do fake advertising and to take the money of the people. I recommend not to become member of this gym. Doing business like this, will be closed in less than a year. And you won't see your money back

Negative experience: The owners and staff at this gym are unprofessional and lack basic customer service skills. The gym itself was not clean, not even post Covid closure in which we returned to dusty machines. Could not recommend this gym to anyone. . *EDIT* - As I cannot reply to your comment. I am not even slightly surprised you'd go as far as lying publicly about my membership status and making up stuff. Like other reviews, I too was charged during Covid and when I complained the owners and staff showed their full unprofessionalism. I ended my membership myself and have since joined a gym that has integrity. I can only hope you stop continuing with this behaviour for your own business's sake. Thank you.

You never complained once about cleanliness while you were at our gym for the past 1.5 years but have written a review after your membership was terminated for misbehaviour.
