CRANK Indoor Climbing

Fantastic experience: I stopped by this climbing gym on a complete whim, and it was perfect for my first-ever climbing gym visit! Compared to what I’ve seen online, this gym looks a lot more spacious, with nice airflow, natural light, and plenty of fans. The staff member who helped me gave me an easy-to-follow safety briefing, and didn’t hover, so I felt at ease trying climbing for the first time. As I was alone I was only able to use the auto belays and free climbs, but there was such a great variety that I didn’t feel bored once, and it was quiet when I went, which was nice. I felt totally at ease trying out a new sport here, and I’ll definitely be back!

Fantastic experience: I love Crank! They have a great sense of community. The instructors are really nice and probably some of the hardest boulders in Brisbane. They also have the biggest sport climbing wall in Brisbane. Go try! If you're looking for value, then it's also worth knowing that they have a full gym too.

Positive experience: First time climbing and it was fantastic. Easy-going atmosphere. Beginner friendly and alot of fun. Before going I wasn't aware they also had a small gym area, a small ninja warrior type course, or a table tennis set up. A solid experience. Will deffs be going again.

Positive experience: Something that I couldn't get my head around is many people in there wearing their normal shoes on the wall. The same shoes that they're walking around in outside and to the bathrooms. It's a big place and there's some good climbs but compared to other climbing gyms the hygiene standard is pretty low. Everything needs a really deep clean, especially the bathrooms.

Negative experience: Good climbs, but the staff are not helpful.... they just ignored me when I needed assistance.

Fantastic experience: Great route setting, friendly staff, good gym with a kilter board. Quite literally the worst playlists I’ve ever had the displeasure of climbing to. If I hear Summer of ‘69 one more time I will unclip myself at the top of the auto belay.

Positive experience: Crank is still a great place for indoor climbing: it's spacious, has friendly staff, and offers a wide variety of ever-changing lead climbing paths of varying difficulty. However, while I used to rate the establishment 5 stars, I can't help but feel it's currently experiencing 'SHRINKFLATION.' The entry fee has increased, yet the overall value seems to be decreasing gradually. Some climbs have been removed without notification, and features that used to be available for non-members are now exclusive to members. For instance, as a non-member, I used to pay $16 for my kid to enter and we could use hang boards near the bouldering area. But despite a $2 increase to $18 after COVID pandemic, the hang boards are now only in the 'members only' area. Initially, I accepted this change, but recently, another climb—the rope net—was permanently removed without prior notice. When I asked the staff, they confirmed it was gone for good. Additionally, there are safety concerns - as some staff members don't seem to take loose pieces on climb routes too seriously. Despite notifying them, they often brush it off with a 'can't be bothered look', claiming it'll be fixed later rather than treating it as an immediate safety hazard. It pains me to write this review. My kids grew up climbing and playing in CRANK from toddlers' age. It's always a great time every time we go. We love the place and still do, but recent business practices and lack of communication have bogged down its overall quality.

Positive experience: Great birthday party overall, the kids definitely enjoyed themselves. A bit of confusion over when they could eat though because apparently if they eat too early then they miss out on all of their climbing etc. This should have been communicated better with the party planner (i.e. me).

Fantastic experience: My daughter loved this climbing gym! We came twice during our 12 day visit. The staff was super friendly and so helpful. Plenty to do for all skill levels on the walls and bouldering. Ninja Warrior and parkour as well. Highly recommend! Will definitely come again on our next visit to Australia.

Fantastic experience: Amazing indoor rock climbing facility. Staff are friendly and they have a great deal where you have unlimited access for a week. They have a range of activities you can chose; from rock climbing, ninja course and a gym. There are many rock climbing courses to chose from and the courses are changed every now and then for you to challenge!!

Fantastic experience: Great indoor rock climbing spot in Brisbane. Lots of different options to climb. Just make sure that you don’t go when there’s school Kids there because they definitely take over the place (they’re only there like once a week for like an hour or two)

Fantastic experience: Having started climbing since last November, having been member for 4 month. Visited this gym more than other places. I even get rid of playing games. Apart from the normal bouldering and top rope. I also love to attend Jinny’s Wednesday climbing technique class with friends. She’s so adorable and supportive. We also love the Yoga class on Wednesday morning. I am happy to see some of my friend are going to this gym with me. Recommend this gym to everyone.

Negative experience: Update: as of 13 January 2023, we have still not be contacted by the insurer or Crank (nearly 6 months after the event). Our twin boys have been doing the Ninja Warrior weekend sessions for the last 4 years – and loved it. Unfortunately, on 23 July 2022 one of them had an accident and broke his forearm in 3 places whilst coming off the Ninja Warrior course. His injury required surgery, within 48 hours, and the insertion of titanium pins the length of his forearm through both the radius and ulna bones. The orthopaedic surgeon suggested we contact Crank to ask for their insurer’s details, which we did. Initially the response (via text) was that they: “don’t have an accident insurance policy”. When we queried this further (via email) and asked to make a claim on Crank’s public liability insurance, we were advised that our email would be forwarded on to the insurer who will be in contact. At the same time, we were also advised by the owner that our other son (without the broken arm) would now no longer be able to attend the Saturday class. He was and still is devastated - having made friends and connections with other children in the class and no longer able to attend a program which he has been doing for nearly 4 years and loved. We have still not heard anything from the insurer, despite this being now over 2 months ago.

Fantastic experience: My two daughters learned parkour here for a year last year. They really liked the teachers and atmosphere there, even though they couldn't continue this year due to time conflicts. It is highly recommended for children to experience the parkour courses there. Once your children master certain skills, you will find that their athletic ability will improve a lot.

Fantastic experience: Very friendly staff and a great environment for a variety of ages. Heaps of walls with different difficulties, with a great sense of achievement when you conquer them. Boulder walls, pong pong, ninja course and cafe makes it a great place to spend a few hours!

Kids walls make it a great place for families whilst the more advance courses make it a great practice gym for the more skilled climber. Parkour area and a well kitted out ninja arena provide more than enough challenge for everyone. Harnesses and shoes available for hire

Positive experience: Such a fantastic opportunity for kids to have fun! A huge variety of climbing walls and activities. The auto balay ways great for the kids. The guy giving the safety and introduction talk was very difficult to hear over the music. Either the music needs to be turned down or he really should speak louder. I also think the younger guy with dark hair needs to learn to speak to customers properly. He asked us to leave the kids auto baly section for a party coming through. He was just so socially awkward about asking us to move that it came across really rude! Other than these 2 small issues, the kids had a great time.

Fantastic experience: Best place for active children, and even as a mum I had the best time climbing as well and playing tag with the kids on the obstacles course. So much fun to be had! And a very reasonable price for a family day out, hours of fun! Bonus is your exercising all at the same time

Negative experience: The team leaders especially a woman named CLARA discriminate against children with disabilities. My 11yr old son was told after attending the ninja warrior program for 2 terms - with no issues - that he cant come back until he gets assessed.. So I provided a doctors certificate stating he was ok to participate in mainstream sports. Then my doctor asked what specifically crank wanted assessed? They have not responded. Crank indoor climbing has some very unprofessional people working for them.

Fantastic experience: Really amazing rock climbing gym that's huge with a ninja warrior course, bouldering, and gym equipment as well. Staff are very friendly, better to go during the weekday daytime as it is quiet then. They have a great deal right now where if you pay for a pass you get a free one week trial unlimited use.

Fantastic experience: I have abruptly entered the world of indoor rock climbing this month and am obsessed. The staff at Crank are amazingly helpful and knowledgeable. The facilities are really good with a number of boulder and roped climbs as well as a small regular gym. They give you the free week after you first go and then a cheap month so you can easily make sure it's your thing before committing to the weekly membership. The members who frequent are also lovely and helpful. I have gone three times a week for a couple of weeks and will continue to do so.

Fantastic experience: Had a climb 2 days ago and met Alex and jess, very helpful staff. Some funky boulder problems to get stuck into with slab and over hangs, first go on the automatic zip line, had a blast. Personally ,The jewel in the crown looks like those epic sports climbs. you have to see it to believe it. Did i mention the fully equipt Ninja warrior training section.

The ninja warrior course in the middle is good fun. Just an overall great experience! Definitely my highlight for the week

Fantastic experience: My son has done a few weeks of cranks junior rock climbing program. My son wasn't interested in group sports. But he jumped at this suggestion. The trainers are relaxed but enthusiastic., and add different challenges each week for the kids to work on. As a parent, I like the atmosphere here. Smiles when you arrive and leave from the wonderful young team.
