The Gold Coast Aquatic Centre in Southport is a premier destination for swimming enthusiasts and families alike. With a wide range of facilities, it offers an excellent environment for both serious swimmers and casual visitors. Users have highlighted several strengths:
- Diverse Swimming Options: The centre features multiple pools, including a large outdoor pool, an indoor heated pool, and specialized areas for children, making it ideal for both recreational swimming and fitness training.
- Family-Friendly Atmosphere: Many parents appreciate the kid-friendly facilities, with classes available for young children and a safe environment for families.
- Supportive and Friendly Staff: Numerous reviews emphasize the helpfulness and professionalism of the staff, particularly the swim instructors.
- Clean and Well-Maintained: The cleanliness of the facilities has been positively noted by many users, ensuring a pleasant experience.
However, some users have pointed out areas for improvement:
- Tight Management of Pool Availability: Several visitors expressed frustration over limited access to certain pools during scheduled events or lessons, often without adequate notice.
- Parking Costs: While some enjoy the facility, others feel that parking fees and entry costs can add up, particularly for families attending regularly.
- Noise Levels: Some patrons have found the music in outdoor areas to be excessively loud, detracting from the swimming experience.
Overall, the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre provides a unique and valuable addition to the local community, combining convenience with quality facilities for an unparalleled aquatic experience.

Gold Coast Aquatic Centre: Opinions
Negative experience: Long time members of the aquatic centre come second to casual attendees. Lifeguards are not pro active in their roles of policing lap swimming lanes over recreational exercisers !
Fantastic experience: Great place to learn to swim or enjoy a day out
Negative experience: The centre is generally very good however I had a disappointing experience yesterday. I am an occasional fitness swimmer and like to do a km in the slow lane however there was a water polo event scheduled and only one pool was available. Half of that pool was set aside for free swims (kids etc) and another lane was dedicated to the scuba group so there were only three lanes for casual training. This in itself is not a problem but it would have been nice if there had been a sign to let us know before paying to enter. I made a special point of looking for a sign as I was leaving and there wasn't one.(better still a sign at the entrance of the carpark so we could have left without paying for parking.) It was also annoying that two pools set aside for the event were left totally empty for the full time i was there. The one star is not for the venue just for this piece of poor customer relations.
Fantastic experience: Love this pool, kids love it too.
Hi Ash, We are so pleased to hear that you love the facilities at Gold Coast Aquatic Centre! We look forward to welcoming you and your family back soon.
Fantastic experience: Gym is wicked, haven’t done a class yet but they look good, trainers are helpful and fridndly that goes for all the staff. Very clean aswell
Hi Joel, Thanks for your feedback. We are so pleased to hear about your experience at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre fitness centre. We look forward to welcoming you back soon.
Fantastic experience: Very nice pool. And you'd think it would be expensive, but it wasn't. $7! Yeay!
Fantastic experience: Good place.
Fantastic experience: I've been coming here for few months now and I'm very happy with the facilities and the whole environment. The only thing I'd improve is the opening and closing time, especially over the weekend, it could open a bit earlier and stay open a bit later, but other than that, great friendly environment.
Hi Daniele, Thank you for providing your feedback. We are pleased to hear you have been enjoying the facilities at Gold Coast Aquatic Centre. We will pass on your feedback to management regarding opening hours. We look forward to welcoming you back to Gold Coast Aquatic Centre.
Negative experience: Great pool, but terrible management, confused receptionists who let anyone go there and change their children's entire schedule without the authorization of the person responsible.
Hi Alessandra, We are disappointed to hear of your recent experience at Gold Coast Aquatic Centre. If you could please contact the Learn to swim team directly so that we can further assist you - [email protected].
Negative experience: Tried taking a video of the pool to show it to my brother. Manger asked me to stop and I followed his order. Thereafter for the next 30 minutes constantly looking at me, Walking next to me, guarding the pool where I was swimming. Felt uncomfortable and left the pool.
Fantastic experience: A lot of us from the QLD scuba just across the way have joined up. Talking with Courtney you can see how friendly and how hard working she is. Hopefully one day you guys can come for a dive with us. We are just across the water. Courtney was working her typing fingers proficiently whilst being friendly with customers. Impressive.
Fantastic experience: A very good facility has an indoor heated pool for winter and evening swims for kids. The swimming areas are big and well maintained. The staff are kind and helpful. Top facility in gold coast
Positive experience: Great food Service Staff Atmosphere
Negative experience: Great pools and location... however, there is unpleasantly loud music blaring from every speaker outside (even when there are no outdoor classes) and today, when only a handful of people were trying to have a peaceful swim. Music is unecessary, waaaay too loud and distorted, I left early because of it.
Fantastic experience: Very good
Fantastic experience: Very peaceful to swim there out of busy times. As it’s an open air pool there are no chlorine odours. Being located right next to the Broadwater and in the parklands the atmosphere is excellent. Pics are of sunset there today.
Positive experience: Great pools, clean, nice
Fantastic experience: Best aquatic centre I've been to. Always a pleasure to enjoy the facilities ♀️
Fantastic experience: Excellent facility. Plenty of pool space, water clarity is great.
Positive experience: Good but not as good as the beach
Positive experience: Excellent here for the national swim team my daughter won both her rases
Fantastic experience: Brilliant service when requesting a plan to purchase. Very informative staff.
Fantastic experience: great place to go for a swim or with the kids!
Fantastic experience: The swim facilities here are excellent, particularly enjoy the 50m pool
Negative experience: Don’t bother wasting your money going here the diving boards are closed to the public because it’s to dangerious…… Your not aloud to jump into the pools and your not aloud to hold your breath in the deep pool so if you want to go into a luke warm piss filled water and not swim this place is for you. Would be better off filling a bath up and sitting in it
Fantastic experience: Very clean, friendly staff, great for a quiet swim as well asfor families
Fantastic experience: It's been a great opportunity to join with Griffith mates to witness this amazing aquatic centre. The place looks awesome and well maintained. They have pool depth from basic 1m and 3m category. Advance to 16m, 20m deep level for professionals. The centre also contain small shops inside which you get basic stuffs for swimming . Mainly this place it's not "free" we need to pay entry fee. For more check their website!!
Negative experience: Was the best public pool back in the day before the "makeover" for the Olympics. The diving boards are no longer open to the public. Its actually more annoying seeing the diving boards and having to tell the kids we cant go on them they are just for the public to look at. The cafe is expensive for mediocre food. What a let down for this place. Now it's just a over glorified public pool with nothing much exciting. A day out with the kids here isn't fun or reasonable on the wallet
Fantastic experience: I noticed a review by adv777adv that makes comments about the indoor pool being closed during certain hours . Well genius it’s closed to the public because it is a learn to swim lesson schedule which is clearly visible in signage. I see that it is you that is mentally challenged and not the staff of this centre . Some people just amaze me at just how stupid they are . Isn’t that right adv777adv ???
Fantastic experience: Very nice and clean facility with a good area for little kids to swim and splash around. Lifeguards were doing an amazing job making sure it’s safe for everyone. Highly recommend when visiting the Gold Coast
Fantastic experience: Great place, amazing staff and activities would recommend
Fantastic experience: Just wow
Fantastic experience: Very professional pools and staffs!
Fantastic experience: Huge olympic level facility. Multiple outdoor pools with different speed lanes, including a wheelchair ramp. Learn to swim pool available, indoor as well. Small shop by reception with essentials for swimming and a few snacks (swimsuits, goggles, fins, caps, water bottles etc.) Lovely staff ready to help, plenty of engaged lifeguards. Can get busy with school and community programs during after school hours, but never cramped. Changing and toilet facilities clean and big, with lots of showers. Parking free for two hours for members. Fitness centre also great, good spread of group lessons for every level and taste (yoga, stretching, weights, aerobics etc.) New and well-maintained machines, lots of options and double ups. Free weights areas with padded flooring, variety of other props to use and plenty of sanitizing wipes and bins for them next to machines. Priced as well or less then most similar level facilities, especially in a combined membership.
Fantastic experience: Baby swim classes have been incredible here, thank you so so so much!
Fantastic experience: Love this place. Awesome location, cool vibe, super clean and pools are fantastic especially deep dive pool. Little cafe is great too.
Fantastic experience: Not so crowded. Definitely loved it
Fantastic experience: Great pool and gym membership with classes included
Negative experience: Pretty lame, you pay a VERY EXPENSIVE fee and they close at whatever time they want with no warming. We got a email that this sat gym will close at 5, i got here and its closed at 4.
Fantastic experience: Great place for the kids clean and safe and no sharks
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff, awesome pools of all shapes and sizes, great layout.
Fantastic experience: Clean, helpfully staff.wished it's opening hours were a bit earlier and closed later
Negative experience: The guy at the front desk wouldn't let us use the toilets.
Fantastic experience: Great facilities, well staffed great for the whole family
Negative experience: Good gym and swimming pools but why no cash? I wanted to buy a coffee (I had the exact change) and was told card only.
Fantastic experience: My son learned to swim here, the coach is very professional. Recommended.
Fantastic experience: The center is excellent and the staff there are so professional and friendly. A lot thanks to Ms Taty, a very experienced teacher of Learn to swim program, who always got the most beautiful smile on her face.
Fantastic experience: Outstanding Learn to Swim (LTS) program with skilled instructors and professional supervisors. All staff were friendly and willing to answer any questions.
Fantastic experience: Highly recommend! Free lanes, clean and tidy showers, friendly staff.
Positive experience: Mum and I both wanted a warm hydro therapy pool for limbs exercise. We both have Arthritis, mum's is quite acute. We enjoyed the 32 degrees warm pool but as the season changed, we found 32 degrees not as warm as the shower water,! We decided to skip it for the winter as we are sensitive and catch cold easily. Warm hydrotherapy and spas do require 33 degrees to 36 degrees max.
Fantastic experience: Used my fitness passport here. The team were excellent. Nice gym and awesome pools 25 degrees
Fantastic experience: The aquatic centre received a make over for the commonwealth games in 2018 and was already a pretty good facility but now it’s very spectacular! We attended the 2023 Australian swimming championships and we really like it! They offer swimming classes for babies and children and have a good swimming program for older children and they have a good gym facility both indoor and outdoor. Just beautiful!
Negative experience: I don't understand why management decided to limit public access to the indoor pool during peak hours between 8 and 11 am and 4 to 6 pm and reserve those hours for swimming lessons even if the indoor pool is only halfway full and has lots of open space during the lessons, we still can't use them. The weather is turning chilly and rainy, but management won't free up the time. Stupid management decisions It appears that persons who make such foolish decisions are completely mentally disabled.
Fantastic experience: Clean, accessible and sufficient parking. A few more adult toilets on the upper level would be a welcomed addition in large sporting events for spectators!
Positive experience: Great facilities here and is good for competition. A little more shade for spectators would be nice. It has a good cafe/restaurant attached.
Fantastic experience: The choice of swimming pools means that there is always one where you can get a few laps in. The gym is open and spacious. On the rare occasion a piece of equipment is broken it gets fixed quickly. Great place to stay in shape.
Fantastic experience: Lovely place but diving boards never open It would be perfect Lovely coffee shop too
Fantastic experience: I take my son to the 3-6 month old swimming lessons. They are amazing, it’s my favourite day of the week. Miss Cheryl is fantastic, builds such a special rapport with all the babies and their parents. Highly recommend classes with Miss Cheryl.
Negative experience: Great facilities. That is if you can use them. Indoor heated pool available times outside of lesson hours are sometimes booked without notification before entry. Really inconvenience if you have small children needing to use the heated pool and it's not available when you have already paid entry. Poor management.
Fantastic experience: First class swimming venue. There are numerous pools for all swimming deciplines. There is an indoor and outdoor pool facility for "learn to swim" a rehabilitation. In both pools are wheelchair ramps into the water. Plenty lifeguards in each area. There is a small coffee bar and retail swimming shop at the entrance. If you are looking for a substantial meal and a drink, there is a food area at the back of the pool areas called Cafe Catalina. Showers, toilets, and lockers are available. There are floodlights across the pools. Yes, and a toddlers splash pool area too. No alcohol on the premises. Don't forget sunblock and a hat. Please check website for membership and of special events to avoid disappointment.
Fantastic experience: What a beautiful complex… best place to be on a hot coast day! Only downside parking makes the day more expensive than it needs to be!
Fantastic experience: Good swim, bathroom and change facilities always clean. Warm showers.
Negative experience: don’t even bother getting the gym pass. They close so early and they don’t even tell you… and you pay so much money for the pass and it’s so small too. There’s no point in getting this pass if you’re always busy. So disappointing
Fantastic experience: This place got place my daughter into the Olympics
Fantastic experience: Went here yesterday. Amazing pool. They have a huge 5m deep pool which was a first for me. Would definitely come here again
Fantastic experience: At least twice a week I separate a time to go swimming in this local. Warm water, kind staff. Go for it.
Fantastic experience: Clean, well staffed and maintained. Great swimming lessons for kids and adults.
Fantastic experience: My little one has just started swimming lessons within the last month Gold Coast Aquatic Center’s admin Lucy and Evie have made the transition and start up super easy. We love having a joke with Evie at the end of our lessons as she has a great sense of humour- all the front desk girls are so easy to get along with We have both private lessons and group lessons with Grace and Julie and both swim instructors are patient, knowledgeable and friendly with my little one. The facility itself is super affordable and very family friendly- in a great location if we want to grab breakky or explore the parklands in Southport. Highly recommend
Fantastic experience: Great facilities. Clean and well maintained and not tp crowded.
Positive experience: Family friendly, have more than one pool & you have the option to free swim or swim laps. Cheap entry fee & discounts for pensioners. I recommend calling up before arriving to see if there are any school swimming carnivals or sport on first. Only negative is that the diving boards are never open.
Positive experience: If you want to see fantastic blue water with a lively weekend atmosphere then visit this place. All typical features and amenities are here. Plus overall, very friendly staff. This place is cashless so bring your plastic cards. Kids will also need a spriggy card for eg.
Fantastic experience: Wonderful staff, Amazing !! My son has never had so much care and attention, he loves it and he is learning valuable skills at a fast pace. A really professional team and a really affordable price, win win ...... I love the service the gold coast Aquatic center provides to the community,
Negative experience: Showed up to swim this morning, entire 50m pool was booked out for squad training and they were only using 7 out of 10 lanes and still refused to let me swim in unused lanes. Pretty poor service
Fantastic experience: Amazing Council pools. Great value for money. Well staffed with friendly, helpful individuals. Extremely well maintained.
Negative experience: We come to Aquatic center for my son lesson ( Aquaheart )with another little kid 5 years old every week. Many time’s ago , receptionists also accepted and gave us a red or yellow papers to wear on my kids’ hand . Today, another reception ( first time I saw at reception. She looked like a public cleaner that I saw in the pool ) stopped me to take my kids inside . We are not happy with the way she did and the agreement of working of all staffs in the reception desk .
Positive experience: Decent facilities and friendly staff at the front desk, we used the indoor learn to swim pool for our 10 month old to have a splash in as our hotel had no pool! The family rooms are a bit cramped and don't have anywhere to out down dry clothing, but aside from that, a good experience.
Fantastic experience: Great pool especially outdoor when the sun comes out.kids have so much fun here. Caution notices everywhere and lifeguards really do their jobs. Staffs are friendly and parents can relax here.
Negative experience: The swimmers disrespect the disability people in the heated pool. Send the feedback to centre manager but she dont care. Pool management very poor be honest.
Fantastic experience: friendly staff ready to help and answer to all enquiries. Welcoming and quiet environment
Positive experience: No great swimming area for the kids
Fantastic experience: Great pool for an evening swim after 6:00pm.
Positive experience: Excellent pool facility but what a shame the spas are only available to elite sports, the public are just as important. I'm a disability support worker & would bring many more clients if they could use the spa. A sauna would also be great.
Fantastic experience: Enquired for learn to swim, this was the only learn to swim that I could find that offer mid week at 6pm. So happy with the girls progress and being able to do it after work. Staff are great!
Positive experience: Commenting specifically on their meeting facilities. You may want to invest in better chairs if taking bookings for full day seminars. Plastic stacking chairs just don’t cut it for a whole day. I’m here for a week and will be bringing a pillow!
Fantastic experience: We had lovely time at the heated pool, we were there for 4 hours
Fantastic experience: Went there to find out how much to join and the staff were very friendly and helpful, looking forward to going.
Fantastic experience: The staff and facilities are so welcoming. Always beautiful and clean and if you just want a hot shower it’s just $3.40
Fantastic experience: Joined as 12 month member gym, nautilas, free weights, weight lifting all top shelf pools x 4 inc heated indoor with membership free aqua , deep water running, aerobics, spin classes heaps more and mship includes free 2 hr parking staff friendly and super clean well looked after 5 star facility, free assessment and coaching suits mature age and ya see olympians training every day 10 out of 10
Fantastic experience: Adequate numbers of disability accessible shower/ Change room. It is the biggest swimming pool in Gold Coast ( I think).
Negative experience: Sorry for giving one star and this is not for place or instructor they are awesome but some of the staff at front are very very very rude and disrespect, specially tall girl from front reception actually I want to add photo and her name so she can realise how badly she is doing her job.
Fantastic experience: Great place to swim, staff are lovely
Positive experience: Very well presented. The guards keep the shenanigans to a minimum. Cleaner kept staring at us. Kind of creepy.
Fantastic experience: Great place to be for a swim in one of the pools. Clean facilities and friendly life guards (and plenty of them!). I would love to win the lotto jackpot so I can buy this pool. Lol
Negative experience: It's a rip off to get in and u have to pay $2-40 for parking I won't be going back for a while,so if a family gose there it will cost alot of $$ so ya better off getting wet n wild year pass.
Fantastic experience: The center itself is excellent! The website would benefit from having specific information about opening hours of the indoor pool separate to the outdoor ones as the only way to know at the moment whether the indoor pool is open is to call them. I have seen many dissaponted parents arrive at the door to find out that the warm indoor pool is closed. ***Edit - They now include this information and I have added their final star! Well done GCAC!
Negative experience: I completed their feedback form to tell them how I feel about having 1 public lane for lap swimming on Fridays, zero response! They continually book the place out and neglect the regular paying members on long term subscription. Jam multiple lap swimmers into 1 or 2 lanes while the junior squads have 2 or 3 swimmers to a lane !
Fantastic experience: Amazing place for swimming. Two 50m lap pools, one diving pool, one outdoor shallow training pool and one indoor pool. Charged public parking available.
Fantastic experience: Everything you could want for a well put together complex, pool setup superior to most, lanes for swimmers, pools for exercising, gym and classes to suit all.
Fantastic experience: Best place for swimming. Have indoor pool and kids play area. Lots people in summer. Better choose early morning to go.
Fantastic experience: Some great swim teachers here. Both my girls have been going for years wouldn't change
