Willoughby Leisure Centre: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Willoughby Leisure Centre is a great gym for a workout.
Negative experience: I had a call today to ask about the bookings. The staff named Robin is extremely impatient and hang up my phone while I still have questions to ask.
Negative experience: There is a lady who works here who is so incredibly rude and it is disgusting to see how she acts towards others. She yells and talks down at the younger basketball kids for practically anything - including but not limited to: harmlessly bouncing the ball in the corridor while they were not allowed into the court area (which usually isn’t the case even when a class is running, so this was odd we weren’t allowed in. And surprise surprised, it was the first time i’ve ever seen this woman), and for them “standing too close” to her while she was moving the hoops up to a higher settings. Mind you, the kids were nowhere near here, not distracting her or bothering her from doing the task - simply watching her adjust it from a fair distance away. That’s when she said “GO AWAY - MOVE!” and I think she also told them to get lost. After that she proceeded to roll her eyes and scoff. It is DISGUSTING seeing someone employed here with absolutely zero customer service skills and not to mention, ZERO respect for the customers. I witnessed someone ask her (very politely) if she potentially had a ball pump so he could pump up the game ball. Again, she rudely takes the ball from him, not saying anything, rolls her eyes and scoffs. An absolute joke of an employee and I truly wish to not run into her again. Very very poor etiquette coming from the only staff member on shift. An absolute joke that this person is still employed here. I wish I knew her name because I would absolutely be naming and shaming! It’s clear to see she doesn’t enjoy being here, so I’m not sure what good it’s doing for anyone keeping her around!
Dear IzzyWe’re really sorry to hear about your experience. To assist us with following up on this request, can you please email [email protected] with more information, including the day and time the incident occurred?
Positive experience: Refs stand at half court and call fouls. Pay a HUGE rego fee to see other games with two refs. one old guy in particular was very hostile to a bunch of 13 year Olds playing their first game even threatening to tech a young kid for making a mistake due to not knowing the junior rules. When he was reminded it's not the nbl and to ease up on both teams ("are you playing football or basketball?!" He then asked ,putting down a child who hip passed a few times in a row) he decided to stop the game and take a parent to task for defending a child on the opposition. That's how bad his manner to these young gents was. To make matters worse when that parent politely told the court manager his concerns regarding the refs conduct and maybe putting a young ref on for the young kids might be a better fit especially in their first game I overheard him continually been shut down and dismissed by the little man that manages the courts who did nothing but defend the rude dinosaur that just "reffed" the game. A great facility with terrible refs and management. Go find a PCYC or something elsewhere. They also won't overcharge you for the pleasure. What a joke. Management of the basketball comps and courts needs to change. No respect for players or parents. A terrible first game for a lot of these kids. Thanks for ruining that experience. Edit: sorry WLC have posted to NSBA and updated rating to reflect facility.
Hi Abbey, we are sorry to hear about your experience. The Willoughby Leisure Centre does not manage/organise these competitions, we provide space for hire to different organisations. I believe the organisation to contact about your experience, would be the Northern Suburbs Basketball Association. Please feel free to contact us for any further information by emailing [email protected].
Negative experience: Very rude pool staff

Negative experience: Small gym with Extremely dated equipment The treadmill has iPhone 4 connection
Positive experience: Range of facilities available here. Indoor and outdoor basketball courts, netball courts, swimming pool. Plenty of parking and parks nearby.
Negative experience: The spa and sauna is closed because of covid, Why not keep it open until it closes for new renovations, I hope the new facilities includes a separate spa and sauna like now and has good jets like this had, currently got to go all the way to Manly aquatic centre. Check the new build plans......there is a new aquatic centre at Zetland and they don't have spa or sauna...Big mistake
Positive experience: Great place for recreational activities. Fantastic parking, great accommodation, even clean bathrooms! (touchwood) However, all services require payment so be wary of that.
Fantastic experience: This is a wonderful place to both have a relaxing swim or a fast swim squad training. They have a beginner’s swimming program for kids who are just starting to learn how to swim, but also a swim squad (Willoughby Swim Club) for those who are competing in a higher level standard. Cafeteria’s coffee was really nice, originally from Toby Estate. They have a play area and diving blocks, a 25m pool are also included. Outside, there’s a netball field while inside there’s a multipurpose field both may be used for Badminton, Basketball and more.
Hi Lily,Thank you for your feedback, I'm glad you enjoy visiting the facility.

Positive experience: Great place to exercise and swim. The prices are slightly inflated though.
Positive experience: We have been members for many years. There is a nice 25 metre pool and separate children's pools, a big spa, sauna, well equipped gym, indoor courts, cafe, and outside netball courts next door. There are great swim schools at the pool, which have taught our kids from when they were learning to swim. There is also a creche, as well as the Blend Cafe inside, where you can grab a coffee or something to eat whilst you wait. It will be a shame when the pool is closed for renovations at the end of November 2022. However, we are looking forward to the new, modern, expanded facility that will be built in its place.
Hi Matthew,Thank you for your feedback.
Fantastic experience: Great place to participate in fitness activities. Gym staff are most helpful & fitness program is very rewarding. Also participate in Spin classes which are testing with a high standard of bike equipment. Yoga sessions with Instructor Yuen provide an intensive session with a wide variety of positions
Hi Brian,Thank you for your review. Glad to hear you are making good use of our Member Care program and group fitness classes.
Positive experience: The kids pool is a bit small, not much fun.
Hi Leon,Thank you for your feedback. The Major Pool Hall Upgrade planned for 2022, aims to deliver greater amenity to all user groups, including children and families.
Negative experience: Staff extremely rude towards children and people around the pool. Witnessed a staff member yell in a boys face for taking the wrong exit.
Hi Mitch,Thank you for your feedback. We welcome you to contact us on (02) 9958 5799 and provide further information on what occurred, so we can address the issue.
Negative experience: Became a full member to use the pool, my mistake, it is usually booked out to clubs or classes so cannot get a swim unless it is at odd hours through the day.
Hi Roger,Thank you for your feedback. Usage of the pool was especially restricted during the COVID-19 Pandemic peak. We have now reduced restrictions to allow higher use. There is also significant demand for pool space from several user groups and businesses. The Major Pool Hall Upgrade planned for 2022, aims to deliver greater amenity to all user groups.
Fantastic experience: Friendly staff and great facility for kids. 2 pools and a slide. Also a jumping castle on weekends for over fives
Hi Ken,Thank you for your feedback.
Positive experience: For a public pool, this is one of the cleaner ones. Always two or so staff roaming around for safety. Has a nice cafe/seating area upon entry which makes hot food and drinks. Easy parking outside too with plenty of spaces.
Hi Rebecca,Thank you for your feedback.
Fantastic experience: The Wiiloughby Leisure Centre is located in Small Street, Willoughby. It is very close to Hallstrom Park and the Incinerator Café. The centre has many sporting facilities such as a gym, swimming pool, basketball and netball courts. The centre is also adjacent to the Flat Rock Baseball Diamond Oval. Certainly if you want to get fit and keep fit, this is the place to go. The centre conducts swim classes and there’s a health club with various gym equipment. Small Street can get very busy especially on Saturday during the netball and soccer season. There is plenty of outside free parking but this does get challenged during the netball season.
Fantastic experience: Amazing place. Very good facilities and helplful people.
Hi Robert,Thank you for your feedback.

Fantastic experience: great pool
Fantastic experience: Fantastic place. Great staff.
Hi Emma,Thank you for your feedback.
Negative experience: Rude lady at the counter was purposely being difficult and sarcastic. She was very unhappy when we asked if the third child discount was available and started making sarcastic and unprofessional comments.
Hi A T,Thank you for your feedback. Sorry about the experience you had. We welcome you to contact us on (02) 9958 5799 and provide further information on what occurred, so we can address the issue
Positive experience: Awesome indoor courts , good pool , kids area could be better . Kids area is always closed
Fantastic experience: Very clean pool and facilities. I have been to other public pools in the area, and this is by far the cleanest of the lot. If cleanliness of the pool matters to you, this is by far the cleanest. Keep up the good work guys.

Positive experience: Grate and cheap as well not too busy and awesome front desk very helpful and positive... The guards around the pool are to intrusive and over the top and too demanding, needed of a younger staff. But 4 gym/chill and spa is the best in the area
Fantastic experience: The duty manager Sam was very professional.
Negative experience: The manager (Sam) is the single most rude, inexperienced, arrogant and disrespectful person one can expect.
Hi Arshia,Thank you for your feedback. Sorry about the experience you had. This staff member no longer works at Willoughby Leisure Centre. We welcome you to contact us on (02) 9958 5799 if you have any further feedback.
Positive experience: Good facilities including basketball courts. Parking just about sufficient. Great coffee place nearby.
Positive experience: I came to Willoughby Leisure Centre weekly for a number of months as a lap swimmer. I cannot comment on the gym or the swim school. I’ve been a swimmer for a significant portion of my life so I’ve been to many pools. This is around average. There are both positives and negatives to this pool. The lifeguards are generally friendly and do their jobs of managing the lanes (such as preventing people playing in the fast lanes). The lane availability was satisfactory, although never a lane to myself, but I imagine it would be busy at other times. I usually came at 6.30am on a weekday morning; most of the pool was for lap swimming with only two lanes for squads. The facility is very old and could do with an upgrade especially the change rooms.

Fantastic experience: Great swimming lessons for little ones. We also enjoy the cafe! It's a good morning out.
Fantastic experience: Great facilities and amazing pools at low price plus there is two futsal court near the entrance all very new and there is a lot of parking spaces
Fantastic experience: Great sporting venue
Positive experience: My son (8) goes to swimming lessons here for last two years and our experience has been very good so far.. Even am taking my adult swimming lessons here and for adults it really depends on the instructor... My current instructor is very senior and experienced and very systematic and professional teaching..far better than all the previous ones, who weren't that effective...shower facilities were good.. But currently is under renovations and hence bit of a hassle..
Fantastic experience: Excellent experience and great value.
Positive experience: Awesome spot for swimming and exercise
Positive experience: Very good shower
Positive experience: Good facilities including basketball courts. Parking just about sufficient. Great coffee place nearby.
Fantastic experience: awesome facilities and great approachable staff
Positive experience: good swimming class structure
Positive experience: Pretty comprehensive sports facilities
Positive experience: Good swimming pool. And realky enjoy the spa
Negative experience: Only one lane available for laps. They only cater for squad and swim lessons. No room for lap swimmers.
Hi Tim,Thank you for your feedback. There is significant demand for pool space from several user groups and businesses. The Major Pool Hall Upgrade planned for 2022, aims to deliver greater amenity to all user groups.
Fantastic experience: Used to come here when I was in high school for the pool. Remember I loved it. Recently returned to watch my neice play netball and discovered how very big the area is - with so many courta. Over 40?
Fantastic experience: Great place to enjoy Swimming
Fantastic experience: Great place to enjoy Swimming
Negative experience: For a $12 entrance fee for casual basketball, it is certainly no worth it. Courts aren't well maintained and are often very slippery, and you can be kicked off the courts frequently for badminton. Whist the lighting and rings are quite good, it doesn't make up for the $12 an hour causal fee. Buses are almost impossible to catch. Better if going to NSBA for $5 with much better courts or another local court.
Thank you for your feedback. Since your review, the court surface finish and maintenance has changed. Casual basketball is now run in sessions, so there is no risk of being kicked off the courts during your session. The current fee for casual basketball has been reduced to $10 per person.
Positive experience: They have 8 Badminton courts and plenty of parking. Court surface well maintain but sometime can be dusty due to basketball player from outdoor courts. The highlight windows cause some issue (glare) for Badminton players during evening sessions.
Fantastic experience: I'm there every Monday. Lots of parking, friendly staff
Fantastic experience: Great facilities with low prices
Fantastic experience: I love the sauna and spa
