Negative experience: Go to The Forum Harbourside instead - The staff are fantastic, but the facilities are pretty gross. Hold your breath if you go in the mens change rooms. The pool is almost unusable for laps as they rent it out to school groups most days and do kids parties on the weekend. Just go to Harbourside, you'll have a better session swimming laps at the ocean baths.

Negative experience: Pool great facilities I used to go to do laps.But Not really for families fun. Once I went with the kids there for them to play. Then went a second time and was told by the life guard On duty at the time children aren’t allowed to swim unless they are doing some kind of swimming lesson or squad after they took my money! Because apparently, children poo in the pool. Well, hello people we pee in the pool all the time. Newcastle needs to be a better indoor swimming facility. Both flap swimmers and families can enjoy. Year round

Negative experience: Insufficient equipment, even during quiet times there is wait times for equipment there is only 1 of. During peak times it’s horrible. There is only one assisted dip, one peck deck ect.

Fantastic experience: I am deeply grateful to the wonderful staff and a kind student at the aquatic centre for their quick and caring response when my blood sugar dropped suddenly. They went out of their way to find something for me to eat and ensured I was okay. They literally saved me from passing out. Thank you ❤️

Negative experience: swimming assessment took 30 seconds!!! and the assessment came out on the level we had in their records from 3 years ago, totally ignoring all the private lessons we had done since then! Definitely not putting the effort.

Fantastic experience: Great pool, great location.

Positive experience: it is a great beginner gym, when you’re finding yourself and what works for you and it is quite small and easy. i don’t particularly recommend if you’re an avid gym enthusiast or heavily experienced, it’s also a little crusty but it’s not top dollar. i really like it and it taught me the beginnings of the gym but if you’re experienced i do recommend maybe going somewhere else. the staff are lovely though.

Fantastic experience: I've been a member here for too long . At least 20 years Ive been mostly consistently going. Best investment ever as I am healthier and fitter than almost everyone I know my age, I've learned some great health and fitness skills and it's a great family friendly environment to visit.

Positive experience: Pool is an easy 5 though frequently very busy. Gym is ok but inadequate air conditioning with windows open on 40°C+ days. Also painted in dark greys which is rather drab. Parking can be an issue and costs extra during the day. Gym staff friendly and accommodating. Overall a good facility and definitely worth a look.

Negative experience: The pool facilities are reasonable however gym access is woeful. It's absolutely untenable to be trying to access weight racks and machines when people are sitting down at them just staring at their phones for 15-20 minutes at a time. Approaches have been made to front desk staff with no response & no improvements. This behaviour doesn't happen at West's - I recommend going there instead.

They chose to do the right thing by me instead of making some easy cash. this meant a lot and unfortunately is not common among gyms. Great job Forum and thank you.

Positive experience: The place is a bit of rabbit Warren of roads, and the sports hall is on the small side with some spectator seating that you cannot access from within the sports hall directly (you have to go outside into the corridor, towards the Cafe and up the stairs). There are no fans, air con or windows, the only relief we got was by going outside to cool down. The Cafe provided fairly good coffee and light snacks

Negative experience: I checked this gym out on a 7 day trial as I’m new to the region, live nearby, and work on campus. It’s a big site with a basketball court, some ovals, and a pretty nice 50m pool. There is also a tiny, underequipped, filthy gym. I don’t even know where to start… there are fifteen pin-loaded machines, roughly half Life Fitness and half Hammer Strength. One would think if you had so few pin-loaded machines, you’d maximise their diversity - but instead, this gym opted to duplicate them (i.e., two lat pulldown machines, two chest press machines, etc.). Instead of intelligent use of space and sorely needed additional machines, there are NINE racks, two deadlift platforms, and four bench press benches, which is something that’s not even needed in gyms four or five times as big. There are some 8 free weight benches, some free weights, half a cable machine with a few attachments. No plate machines. It is simply not possible to get a good workout here. Don’t go here if you have asthma or any respiratory issues or allergies because I have never seen so much dust. The gym is genuinely dark because the windows have clearly not been cleaned in I guess a decade. I couldn’t see through them and light couldn’t pass through them. Every flat surface was covered in thick, moist dust… and if someone turns the fans on, you’ll see it all. The vents have coagulated dust hanging from them. This gym has never been cleaned. I felt sick after twenty minutes so left to the shower to get the filth off. Was greeted by one of those communal shower rooms you see in films set in prisons in the 1990s. There are signs requesting patrons clean the shower before and after use. Don’t know why I’d be asked to clean facilities, and clearly no one else does because they were disgusting. Maybe for the exorbitant price of membership, a cleaner could be hired (or one of the three staff members standing around chatting could do it?). I felt dirtier after my shower because of clear signs of mold and fungus and general scum. There are vending machines, but don’t expect what you’d expect to see in them (e.g., preworkout RTDs, intraworkout hydration, postworkout shakes, protein bars); they are Coca-Cola vending machines. There is a cafe on-site, but don’t expect macro friendly, thoughtful food options; there are premade sandwiches and wraps like a truck-stop. Decently-equipped cardio section, though. Honestly and genuinely confused as to why the SRC or student union hasn’t demanded better conditions/equipment/facilities/amenities for this gym. Not only is it the worst University gym I’ve ever been to, it might just be the worst gym I’ve ever been to in nearly a decade of training. It is somehow also the most expensive gym I’ve ever been to. This is a gym I’d expect in my mate’s garage, but instead it’s one at absolutely top price. At this price, I’d expect to be able to work out more than four muscles. And to not be asked the clean the shower after I use it. But if you’ve ever wanted to see the junk of people you don’t know but see regularly around campus and in social and professional settings, this might be the gym for you (unless you go to the gym to work out, because then you’re out of luck). Edit: tried again. Late morning… 8/8 benches being used. 12/14 pin loaded machines used. 6/6 cables being used. 0/9 racks being used. 0/4 bench press benches being used. Clearly demonstrates that more machines and cables and fewer racks are needed. Potentially not noticed by staff because each time I’ve been here, four staff members have been on but all of them talking to female clientele and none of them paying attention to the gym

Fantastic experience: The pool facilities are good. Change rooms and bathrooms are newly refurbished. Would recommend you check the lap lane availability ahead of going as there is often classes or training in progress.

Negative experience: Came here on Sunday at 10am, 5 lanes were booked out until 1230pm by one person in each lane (for $35/hour), two lanes closed for kids swim class using 5 meters at the end of each lane, with one jam packed lane left over for everyone else. The entire pool is also cut into 25 m halves before and after work every day for squad swimming. Nice indoor pool but no point coming to train here unless you can book a lane or in class/squad here.

Negative experience: Went in for a day pass, they only do "casual passes", wasn't made clear at the start. No information, guidance, tours, waviers or anything else. Really need to clear up that process of casual visits and have a set process for everyone that comes in. Also who pays $20 for 2 hour limit of the gym! Most do $10-$20 for the day, but as I said if that's the way it is, it needs to be clear from the start. Guy at reception was helpful and nice on arrival and when leaving. Young girl was disinterested in my issue and unhelpful in solving it.

Fantastic experience: Really good. Do lessons there with the little ones. Its big and open. Plenty of room to sit poolside while you wait. Instructors are friendly and firm with instruction

Fantastic experience: Great service for entering and leaving. Cheap to enter the swimming pool, sometimes the laps are all taken up but the people swimming are also so nice and willing to share. I’ve had a few chats with all ages, (mostly my mum does the talking) but such a great community to be at to do some laps. Parking is okay Life guards are chill Overall a good place to go and get your laps in ‍♀️

Fantastic experience: I love that the forum always makes arrangements when there's other classes on so that it's still possible to get some laps in. It's a really great idea to subdivide the lanes to make it 25m for busier periods.

Negative experience: I bring my mask everyday. But today I went only to Zumba lessons. I was not going to wear my mask there(obviously). The girl at the reception was very rude and forced me to buy a mask which I haven’t even touched. I left immediately after my Zumba lesson. Are they trying to earn a profit by forcing a mask on everyone at double the retail price! Appalling!!

Fantastic experience: great place, pool very warm even in mid winter. Change room has been renovated in the swimming area and looks pretty good, but no hair dryer though. The only hair dryer available is in the change room in gym area.

All the instructors were incredible, the front reception staff always had a smile and the gym is everything I needed. There is such a good vibe and community feel, I’m really going to miss it. Special mention to Kristy, her classes were my absolute favourite! She made me laugh and I had so much fun with her. Will miss you guys so much.
