City of Mandurah MARC

Negative experience: I went to MARC today with my little sister and I said we were both students and I was asked to prove it, which I did, and my sister, who did not have her student card on her, was charged an adult entry! The receptionist was short and sharp and I feel that this adult entry fee for my younger sister, who is finishing school for the year, was completely unjust. She is 16 years old for goodness sake. I hope that MARC receptionists shift their attitudes and look at the people rather than the cards if they want more regular customers.

Negative experience: Whatever you do, DO NOT choose this gym!! Dirty, equipment is old and always breaking down (ripped seating) and management are council employees who get paid for being incompetent. My advice is to move on..there are much better Gym's in this location.

Negative experience: What an excellent centre Your cafe let's you down Slow service Wouldn't want to purchase anything on a busy day

Negative experience: The MARC should be a fantastic facility, however so many bungled repairs and renovations over the past decade stop it from reaching its potential. The failure of planning to remove the 1970’s style floating boom and replace with a sectioned boom wall as modern pools have left us with a slow and difficult change between 1x50m and 2x 25m configurations. Management have then leant too far towards 2x25m config with only around 14 hours per week where a 50m lap poop is available to use. The regular out of action list for other items such as spa and sauna is terrifying.

Fantastic experience: My review is mainly about the Marc Cafe. We can't praise it enough! Much of the food is home-made and the soups (chicken noodle especially), vegetarian quiches, and salads are much appreciated and very yummy. Compliments to the chef! The staff go above and beyond and are a real pleasure to deal with being very helpful and assistive at all times in spite of being really busy. Friendly fast efficient service with a smile and not just in the cafe, this praise applies to all the staff encountered especially around the pool areas. Thank you so much and God bless you all.

Fantastic experience: Can not recommend, rhianna, ksenia and dale enough if your looking for a PT. They all have different strengths and really show you through forms and adapt to your needs with continuous check ins. They have a great handle on anatomy and injury recovery. Their personal approach and care is above and beyond.

Positive experience: Everything at the Marc is good a part from the cafe the cafes food is not cooked that well and the food is a lot of money but everything else is all good

Negative experience: A few good things to say about this place, but far more cons than pros… my son loves the pool, and this place has a pool, so that is a pro. As the cons, the last time we went swimming, the lifeguard wouldn’t allow me to go down the slide with my baby, which is fine, but the rules aren’t posted anywhere, and she was not terribly civil, she just said no, no when I walked up, and said I couldn’t go down the slide with him. I asked how old he had to be to go down the slide by himself, and she said that was up to me. so I asked, three years old? Four years old? She again just said it was up to me. This is ridiculous and unsafe, as my baby is now just 14 months old and would obviously drown if I sent him down the slide by himself. Nowhere are the slide rules posted, there are no age or height requirements listed anywhere. There is a sign that says not to poo in the pool, but there are no signs that dictate safety around water or near the pirate ship children’s area. We called the aquatic center and spoke to manager told us that she was sure there were rules regarding age and height for going down the side, but she didn’t know what they were. Previously, we have been able to go down the slide, holding the baby, and I’m fine if the rules have changed or are now being enforced, but I wish people could actually tell us what the rules are! Only a psychopath would decide that it was OK to send their infant down the slide by themselves, but apparently that would be, according to the lifeguard at the slide a few weeks ago, just fine, it’s up to me! On top of this, I was not able to easily find a way to withdraw my child from swimming lessons through navigating on the website, and we have just been charged a non-refundable large sum of money that we cannot afford even though we have not shown up to any lessons this term and he has aged out of and graduated from the class he is apparently enrolled in. Unacceptable, really heartbreaking that a community center treats local patrons with such disrespect.

Fantastic experience: I have joined MARC as you can use swimming pools, got to the gym play an assortment of games, eg Basket ball, badminton, Squash, pickleball an more. You can do yoga, an strengthen courses an heaps of different courses for all ages. Everything in one place.

Positive experience: Well run with v good equipment and activities

Negative experience: MARC and Mandurah council, it’s clearly not on your list of priorities to provide the local public with this facility… it sucks, big time! Everyone waited YEARS for the roof to get repaired inside. As soon as it’s repaired you close the other inside pool including the kids playground, forcing everyone to brush shoulders in the one average pool you have open. This includes the elderly, young children, people with disabilities of all ages, large groups of swimming lessons of all ages and also the random people just wanting a quick dip. Spa and sauna are also closed for maintenance, very prolonged and ongoing maintenance it would seem.. You did all of the above with NO NOTICE to the public via your website or any other way. The receptionists don’t even mention it when you pay full price at the counter and are clearly there for kids activities. Terrible service. So, we waited out the school holidays and decided that after all the previous time wasting drives to MARC and seeing the disappointment on the kids faces that we would call first to see what’s available and we’re told only the outside pool is open.., It is raining heavily with a storm on the way so thanks but no thanks, clowns. Do the whole town a favour and just shut THE WHOLE decrepit facility down for a year and fix everything at once so it can be used in its entirety, instead of charging the public for facilities that we can’t even use! You’re a joke.

Negative experience: Don’t waste your time, go somewhere else Roof is leaking water even after being fixed, the leak has returned and the pool is closed once again, now theres leaks in the basketball courts too. 1 lightning strike 30kms away and the whole place is closed including indoor pools sauna/spa Lifeguards have said most electricals aren’t earthed.

Negative experience: Very disappointed with the cafe. Have just been down to enjoy a game of squash with my daughters, as a treat I bought them chips with gravy each. Given portions half the size of what they were previously (which were $5) and now costing $5.30. I had to double check we had not been served incorrectly. Was told this was right. Facilities here are great but the cafe is very overpriced for portion size. Will not be buying again.

Negative experience: Please note the waterslide playground indoors is closed. Nothing on website stating as such. Also nothing inside saying that either Super glad we mentioned that we wanted to go on the slide before paying

Positive experience: Plenty of parking, but still gets busy on weekends. Shame that outdoor pool always has lane ropes, which I believe discourages playing groups and favours the VERY few lap swimmers! This was at 1030am on a Sunday.

Positive experience: Usually a great place to visit but with the main pool not being used due to the roof it makes it very crowded. There is quite a long walk to get into thw pool which is hard for disabled and mobility challenged.

Positive experience: Pretty busy and when we went there the pool section inside was closed. But it looks nice and probably will be opened again soon. Kids area is great fun for them.

Fantastic experience: I am taking the time to write this review because I am honestly blown away by how fantastic my experience here has been. The staff are all consistently friendly, welcoming and kind - a particular shout out to Helena who taught my kids swimming and did a wonderful job, and also the absolutely incredibly caring staff at the crèche. The cafe is brilliant value, the crèche setup with how you pay, how it works etc. is the best I’ve seen. We have spent hours in the indoor pool and my kids just love it. A massive thank you to all who work here, and wishing you a very merry Christmas.

Positive experience: Have been attending, with some breaks, for a few years now. Was taking the aquarobics classes several times a week, which I hugely enjoyed. It was great exercise for those not necessarily fit for full gym work on dry land. Personally, with previous back surgeries and hip replacement, I find it a great way to keep mobile. Covid closed it for a while, obviously, then I had a knee op and now another hip replacement recently. In the meantime, they had an issue with part of the roof collapsing and to my knowledge have yet to find a contractor to complete the work at a not exhorbitant price so that section of the pools is now closed off, a shame but they are doing what they can to cope, aquarobics now moved to outside pool. The centre offers a lot besides water sports, with netball, exercise classes squash courts etc. Coffee and snack shop as well, and a lot of groups have coffee and socialise after classes. At these times, they need more than one girl making coffee. That's a staff issue and also I find the new staff, after reopening are not as nice as the previous staff members who always had a smile and greeting on arrival. Before my recent return to the pool for rehab, etc, after surgery, I called into the centre to check on what was available in the pool area as I was aware of the roof issue. The lady I spoke with was quite "abrupt" in her manner, not a smile to be seen, as if I were inconveniencing her with my enquiry. My recent visits have been met with efficient but not pleasant service, not a smile or greeting to be seen, just "next" or "what can we do for you today" but not pleasantly, by rote. It is still a great centre, I usually use weekdays only to avoid busy weekends when more children and families are in attendance. It will be great when it is fully reopened, but that might be some time off yet.

Fantastic experience: Came down this afternoon to MARC, the staff were lovely. Enjoyed the indoor and outdoor pools plus the spa. The toilet and shower amenities were nice and clean as well.

Negative experience: It is a good and fun place for kids but unfortunately the staff at the reception are always in a bad mood, always in a hurry even when they have no customer. Sorry to say that but they need a better attitude.

Positive experience: Kids like the pools indoor and all not too deep for them with a pirate ship.

Negative experience: Pay a membership and its just a waste of money because there is never any lanes to swim in!

Negative experience: Priority always given to basketball esp weekend where other indoor sports ie volleyball & badminton will be sideline. I don't understand it.

Positive experience: I found it well run, staff friendly and pool guards were vigilant in their duties. To bad about the inside pool being closed for another 16 months due to roof damage. That's what happens when low grade tradesmen do the job.

Two big popls, a sauna/spa for adults and kids playground and water area. Theres also a creche here as well! Winning!

Positive experience: This is a good place for the kids. Not the best to do rehab work with people who are movement impaired. IT WAS VERY BUSY on the Saturday morning that we visited. It quietened down after swimming lessons had finished. The fact that it is still awaiting renovations to some of their area doesn't help. It is great to see it so busy. The staff are great despite what is happening with the renovations. A good mix of young and old to reflect their customer base. Not like some centres that are mainly kids.

Fantastic experience: Two top Coody teams clashed and oh boy!!! What an exciting game it was with both teams giving more than 100% however the girls succumbed and the boys carried the throne of 20 consecutive wins....awesome game boys and girls whoop whoop

Negative experience: Health and Safety is not a priority. I had a fall on the 10 March 2021. The entrance gate to the gym has been defect for many months. They are using the glass gate that normally is the exit, or disability entrance, they are using now for going in and out. The gate opens in both directions. There is no sensor that prevents the gate from moving if you cross, there are no warning signs, there is no beeping when it closes. I was going to the spin class and went through the gate that was open. The gate closed behind me and I got caught with the edge of the glass and my shoes and I had a fall on the knees. The left knee got the full impact. I wrote a report and Liz Walker that is working at Marc, witness the accident. Then came first aid, Karin brought a big suitcase and a bag of frozen peas. I wrote the report, Karin was unable to do much, they should put a brace around my knee. I decided that I wanted to go the spin class and I was afraid that my knee will become stiff, but soon I realized that I had something serious as I was unable to put any wait on it. I tried to extend the leg and wait for my husband to finish the class. On the next day, I went to the doctor and I was sent to do x-rays. In my way to the x-rays we stopped at Marc and talked to Alison, the supervisor. There was NO report of the accident, and nothing was in place to prevent another accident. Alison, very reluctant to help, she was non-plus, she did not even want to know much about my comments. She was looking for the report that she was unable to find. After the short visit, I had my x-rays done and I was sent to the hospital, due to a small knee fracture. Now I have to wear a splint and next week I will have to go to Rockingham to the bone hospital. Nobody at Marc has contacted me to for a follow up. **** It is a very dangerous place because there is no much awareness of risks. I have pointed out that the room 2 with the bikes are a hazard. That people put mats between bikes, that the coaches are pushing the bikes causing a lot of strain at the back. I made aware of the hazard and I will keep fighting so that Marc and his employees become more aware of the dangers and hazards that are in place. This time I will go public if I need, because this behavior and lack of awareness is unacceptable.

Positive experience: The outdoor pool is open and heated so it is still nice to swim in even on a cold day. Now it's summer the outside pool is getting busy. Hopefully they will fix the indoor pool roof soon.

Fantastic experience: Great facility, pools are heated, clean and well monitored. Outdoor pool is awesome and perfect all year round. Plenty of change facilities,showers and toilets. Gym and sports facilities are first class. Food, drinks and coffee all available.
