Eltham Leisure Centre

Negative experience: Unfortunately, my experience here has declined significantly over time. Membership prices continue to rise, while the quality of service and facilities has gone down. I was a long-term member, but after repeated negative experiences, I decided to cancel. Much of the gym equipment is outdated and frequently out of order. The sauna and steam room are 90% of the time unhygienic, with people going straight from them into the pool, which is quite off-putting. The floors are also consistently dirty, and lifeguards often appear disengaged and inattentive. A particularly disappointing experience was when my bag was stolen. Rather than offering support or assistance, staff focused on questioning whether I was a member and why my bag wasn’t locked, which is called VICTIM BLAMING Overall, the facility is below average for the price. At $52 per fortnight, I would rather spend my money somewhere that prioritises cleanliness, safety, and respectful customer service, including being greeted with a smile and hello. It’s also time for Carmel and a few of the other ladies to retire, or look into work that doesn’t involve dealing with other human beings. They obviously are in the wrong field.

Negative experience: I've been a member at this gym for 9 years now and enough is enough. Zero machines have been replaced in this time, zero upgrades, equipment constantly out of order, handles falling appart, unstable benches, AC not working through the heat of summer, now most of the aleady overcrowded free weight section is closed off for an extended period of time... all for $52 a fortnight. Multiple complaints over the last few years with ZERO action taken. Other gyms part of the aligned leisure group have had all equipment updated, gym upgrades, but not Eltham..

Negative experience: I'd previously given this a 5 star review as the staff and equipment was so good. Over the last 6 weeks however the state of the place has become a safety hazard and absolutely nothing is being done about it. Areas have been cut off with tape as the floor is coming up, this means reduced exercise areas. Now, the roof is starting to fail with blatant safety hazards as the ceiling tiles are literally hanging above equipment. The physios are doing what they can but the centre need to do something about it and fast. What is my membership actually paying for if you can't keep the gym up to a basic standard of safety? I have had to write this here as your Nillumbik website contact form is also broken which isn't a surprise. You need to do something about this before someone is injured. Paying members also deserve a safe environment to exercise in.

Negative experience: 42 degrees and no AC for $25 a week. P.s no abductor/adductor, calf raise, pec deck, hip thrust. Should I mention how they level the benches?

Fantastic experience: After a long day running our renovation business, visiting Eltham Leisure Centre was a good way to unwind. The centre felt clean and well managed. The facilities were easy to use and well maintained. The atmosphere helped us relax and reset after work. Staff were friendly and helpful. A solid place to switch off and recharge.

Positive experience: Great spacious gym. Very busy so you often have to wait for popular equipment. 24 hour access to the gym for members. The pool area and change rooms are modern and clean.

Positive experience: Service could've been better, canteen was rude and workers hassling me for my gym band even after I have scanned in. I've heard rumours about workers at this place from my brother and others that are quite frankly frightening, but since i've never met Gary and my experiences have been simply average, it can get 3 stars.

Fantastic experience: i pay around 40$ a week for swimming lessons and my kid has not only learnt how to swim but how to fight other children in water too! she won the underwater boxing match for her school last week with flying colours, thank you so much.

Negative experience: Disappointed with the swimming lessons for our kids. Started off well but then our instructor left and the replacement was not good.

Fantastic experience: Good pool, sauna, and therapy pool

Negative experience: The place has a lot of potential but there is work to be done. The older staff are often indifferent and not particularly efficient at the front desk. The pool area and the change rooms aren’t cleaned enough considering the amount of people who use the facility it should be cleaned constantly. The gym needs more room perhaps move the offices out of there and extend the space. More equipment needed to justify the price of membership.

Positive experience: Good gym… great pool… great staff, but overly expensive and guaranteed appalling music, just like 99% of other gyms out there.

Fantastic experience: I did the aqua exercise class at Eltham leisure centre with Amy as the instructor. The centre is lovely, clean and seems to be a great asset to the community. Amy was the most amazing instructor I've ever experienced! She was energetic, fun and full of smiles through the entire class. I have never worked so hard in an aqua class and enjoyed every second of it at the same time. I look foward to visiting the area again, even if it mainly to do an aqua class with Amy.

Positive experience: Swimming classes are fine, my daughter enjoys the class as well as the play in the water afterwards. Showers are not the best, sometimes water is cold. Good place in overall.

The warm water was perfect for swimming, and the staff were incredibly helpful, particularly when assisting me with their pool wheelchair. The disability facilities were well-designed and accessible, making it easy for me to get into the water. It was a fantastic experience, and I'm so grateful for the opportunity to swim and enjoy the pool.

Positive experience: Eltham Leisure Centre is a fantastic spot for my son's basketball games. The parking is generally a breeze, making it easy to get in and out. The courts are pretty well maintained, providing a good playing experience. Overall, it's a convenient and well-kept venue for sports. Highly recommend!

Negative experience: Beware of hidden cancellations cost. Was told had to pay 14 days notice period upon cancellation of membership of kids swimming lesson, even when the lesson is not planned to be held at all due to fall in public holiday. Someone should report to ACCC

Positive experience: Pros & con. Three indoor pools. The lap pool is 28⁰5, the kids pool is 32⁰ and the warm water pool is a wonderful 33⁰ and is big enough for laps. It's mostly people paddling around though. There's also a strong waterfall in the kids pool which is great for a shoulder massage. They provide a hairdryer in the main bathroom and several change rooms for families. The Aqua class is SO LOUD! The instructor is belting rock music to a group of white hairs first thing in the morning. I chatted with them afterwards. They love the social element and the class, but they find the volume pretty stressful. The volume takes over the entire centre, including the kids pool. Weird for a fitness instructor to not be able to 'read the room'. $9 for full access to the three pools, saunas and spas. Free parking and loads of it. All the walls are glass with eucalyptus trees all around it. It's really beautiful. The sun streams into the warm pool in the morning

Fantastic experience: A great facility to enjoy with friends and family. Swimming lessons for adults are available as well and that is a plus point. Highly recommended.

Negative experience: we have 2 kids doing lessons here, its about $40 per week for both, I though I might do a few laps instead of sitting waiting kids to do their lesson which goes for 30min, but I’ve been told to pay another $9, I dont think its very fair, seems wrong to me, Ive been to other centres that allow family access when subscribing to kids lessons

Fantastic experience: A lovely leisure centre. It has charm and character, unlike others that feel cold and sterile this centre is warm and inviting. I do not swim so can’t comment on the pool but the dry facilities are great. Recently installed new cardio gear which is top quality. Gym floor well equipped. Full class timetable. Good instructors. Big carpark.

Positive experience: Good facilities, everything you need. Friendly staff. Main Pool Toilets /showers could be better and the phone is sometimes not answered, I have to call multiple times to get through, as there appears to not be enough people at reception.

Positive experience: Pool is grimy, the tiles are filthy dirty as are the hallways leading to the change room. Lifeguards more interested in talking to each other than actually doing their job.

Negative experience: My aqua class was cancelled again today. Not by a message to my home, but by standing ready in the pool with a class full of people and no instructor turning up. This happens 1 class out of 4.

Negative experience: Always too busy, tried three times last week on three different times of the day. Every machine taken, all the parking full, yoga class was full too. Couldn't do anything.

Negative experience: Pool on the weekend shuts at 7:30pm due to not wanting to pay staff. Meaning, they wont get my membership anymore.

Negative experience: Once a well run center, going downhill. It’s Saturday arvo, the kids pool section got closed because they only have one lifeguard. There were 3 staff members at the reception chit-chatting. The gym is overly busy around the clock, the yoga mats are super dirty and never cleaned (torn and cracked in places). It seems they have handed over the center to rookies! Will start lookin’ for alternatives.

Positive experience: Lovely pool facilities. Just a little surprised that people are allowed to use their mobile phone in the spa. It wasn’t relaxing having someone in the spa with their phone to their face, the camera pointing at everyone in the spa.. I went in to the change rooms and the same thing happened, a staff member was using their mobile whilst people were getting changed.. probably should think about having a policy/rule about this. It’s quite uncomfortable..

Positive experience: Spa is OK, mainly jets, not many bubbles. Men's change rooms and showers average...

Negative experience: Be aware that you cannot use the warm water pool whenever you want. The Aqua/rehab classes use most of the pool area. They could divide the pool into two sections easily using the red ropes, one could be used for public one and one for the classes. But they refused to do so. Their answer was almost “go somewhere else if you don’t like this facility”. This means you have to check their calendar. This is not fair as when you pay for a service you should be able to use it during its opening period. In addition, the pool is too dirty. I got skin infection two times. This doesn’t surprise me as many people come into the pool with regular cloths, not the swimming ones, without taking a shower. As an example, on most of Sunday afternoons, some people come into the pool after playing basketball in the centre’s court with basketball cloths. You feel that they are washing themselves in the pool!!! None of the staff ask them to follow the pool rules. To Kathryn’s response: The facilities “must” be available for “public” in its working hours. I didn’t pay to use the facilities ”sometimes”. I was not the only unsatisfied customer, FYI. There were more than 20 people packed in a small area of the pool, the too shallow section, waiting for the 2 hour aqua class to be finished. This is not a surprise for me that I don’t see the same faces for a long time. People are not trees, they can find better service somewhere else. You can easily divide the pool into two sections, one for the classes and activities and one for the public use using a rope as a divider. Like what you do for the swimming lessons. This is done in almost all of other similar facilities. Hope this is not difficult to understand. However, I cannot see any willing to keep “all” of the customers happy by following a simple rule.Regarding the hygienic issues, you don’t need me. You just need to check the pools regularly to see the problems. Finally, my only intention is to make the new proposed customer aware of what is going in this place. The current ones are fully aware and as I have spoken to many of them, they are agreed with me.

Fantastic experience: Our kids take swim lessons at Eltham Leisure center. The place is so clean. The amenities are great with all the different options of pools, sauna, hot tub, etc. It's so open and airy

Positive experience: We usually go to Watermarc but decided to come to ELC thinking we might get a pool membership closer to home. My partner and I tried the warm water pool/spa. The pool was fine, a little chilly after half an hour but I noticed a lot of scum/body grease collecting around the water level of the pool. Also, everything is white, tiles, walls, roof. The kids pool looks so sad :(

AS I NOTICED STAFF DON'T CARE AND CANNOT BE BOTHERED. PEOPLE PLEASE TAKE PHUKING SHOWER BEFORE ENTERING WATER FACILITIES, YOU ARE NOT THAT CLEAN AS YOU THINK YOU ARE. LETS RESPECT EACH OTHER SINCE WE LIVE IN CIVILISED COUNTRY so far!!!!

Positive experience: I am a member and I love this place but the sections in the gym is mostly occupied by the trainers who are either training themselves or somebody else. Evening is the worst time to go.

Positive experience: The Steam Room stops working for half an hour or more each time and that’s been going on since they reopened. They have to “reset the engine” and it takes almost an hour to reheat. Complained many times but they don’t seem to care to fix.

Fantastic experience: A great place for our kids swimming lessons, as well as a hydrotherapy pool and gym there are also other sections for smaller children. Although the staff are often busy we are always greeted with a smile and friendly service.

Fantastic experience: Staff helpful. Ladies toilets need an upgrade. No toilet rolls or hand towel wipes. This is a regular occurrence. Aqua Instructor's are great.

Positive experience: Facility, gym and swimming looks great, but it was my first time doing casual shooting at basketball and I won’t lie I was kind of crossed out. Had to kill 2 spiders that crawled on my court. And there were water leaks near the front door. But I had a good time other wise. And I give yous credit cause you’re the only facility nearby that opens up early for casual shooting from 5:30am. Which I am thankful for since other stadiums open at 9. Will definitely come back, but I do recommend the basketball courts to be cleaned

Negative experience: For the pas 2 years every Monday from 2pm the warm watter pool was great, coming with my disabled client ( autistic who has a very strict routine). But for the past 6 weeks the time we are coming has become unpleasant. The watter aerobics has been sooo loud the teacher not very nice to anyone trying to enjoy the pool. ( telling that they are loud... ) it was such a joke, grown-up adults told of like kids. Today one of the usuals wanted to stand in the deeper end of the pool and got told off. He wasnt interupting or being in the way of anyone. We all pay to use the facilities. Very desapointing. Mondays 2 pm stay away from the pools especialy if you have a rehab program to do in the warm watter pool, and if you are sensitive to loud noise.

Fantastic experience: We saw chelsea at the reception, she was very patient, took us for a walk around the place and showed us the premises, answered every single question we threw at her. Both my wife and I were really happy with her customer service and we ended up signing up. Thank you again!!!! Cheers

Negative experience: Gym leaves a lot to be desired. Plenty of cardio equipment but next to nothing for weight training (and what is there is not great or new). For example, 2 squat racks, 1 leg press etc is not enough for off peak times let alone busy times.

Positive experience: My daughter was having the swimming lesson on Sunday. After 2 or 3 lessons, they always sent me messages that no teacher was on duty and then they asked us to stop the lesson after 5 lessons been canceled. We suppose have 5 makeup lessons but they said to me my daughter doesn’t have any makeup lesson and I sent the email to them as the receptionist suggested, still no one reply me after 2weeks. Called swimming lesson department, no one pick the phone. Not good experience All fixed now after Talking with them in the office. I would say the environment is good. Will stay keep lessons here.

Positive experience: Great pools for kids, not too stuffy inside considering it is an indoor pool, and MUCH quieter than WaterMarc on the busy/hot summer days. Kids absolutely love coming here to swim and so do we. Front desk service also very good even when busy.

Positive experience: I don't think the signage was adequate for the pool as I dived in at the wrong end and ended up sustaining permanent damage. Eltham Leisure Centre is yet to comment.

Negative experience: SorryJust full of rude & obnoxious Eltham folk....Don't go if your a Blue-collar worker , looking to relax the bones in a steam room/ Warm water/ or Hot showers☹️. Unless you like looking UP peoples nostrils.

Negative experience: Didn't comply with Covid health orders on the occasions I attended the gym. Mask orders were in place when I attended during 2021, before and after the big lockdown. You were exempt only if puffing or for medical reasons. There'd be 20-25 others and no or one other was wearing a mask. The rest could be doing mat work or a low-intensity group session with no mask on, nor have one hanging under their chin or sticking out of a pocket. The ones who'd been puffing didn't put it on when they stopped. Customers would walk in the gym and take it off. The Covid marshall there told me he'd been instructed that mask compliance was a matter for the police. And this is a place devoted to improving health and fitness.

Positive experience: Great facility for aqua aerobics. All instructors very talented and give a great workout for those that want to"put in"'. Well priced classes.

Negative experience: Just wanted to share my terrible experience. I bought a chicken club sandwich on Saturday afternoon and then had to to spend the night in hospital because you don’t know how much pain I was in. The worst food poisoning I’ve ever had in my life Food poisoning is no joke!

Fantastic experience: I became a member as the price is competitive to other centres, the amount of Aqua arobic classes and the dedication of the instructors and the staff with a welcoming atmosphere throughout

Fantastic experience: ready stressfree swim today. Luke guards doing their job. Will never return to Mill Park again except to get a refund. Eltham you are my other hidden gem. If I xould give you 10 stars I would.

Positive experience: Completely rebuilt a few years ago, facilities are top-notch. Tiny and a little sad outdoors water play area, and the lack of a 50m pool are the only notable downsides. Kids wanting water slides are also out of luck and are better off heading to nearby Watermarc in Greensborough. For everyone else, this is a beautiful, functional local pool.

Fantastic experience: 2 years ago I had a low rating feedback for Eltham leisure Center for a bad experience that I had back then. Now, I decided to edit my feedback to a 5 star because of the great service I have received over last 2 years. From service desk (Jack ) to teachers (Keisha, James, Sophie ….) they are all helpful and professional . I take swimming lessons and come across a-few very good teachers above all was Collin. He is a very thoughtful teacher that his lessons are engaging and useful. He paces the class just right so you feel challenged but not overwhelmed. He is very patient with everyone in class always encouraging his students. I have learned so much in my classes with Colin. I would highly recommend him.

Positive experience: I took my primary school aged kids to play in the swimming pool on a winter afternoon. At ten my daughter looked the oldest in the “kids” pool. The swim play area was nice but small with not a huge amount to do. The pool was packed whilst the teaching area (mini lap lanes) was completely in use. The baby pool was empty at this time. My kids really enjoyed the water cannon and played with in together with other children. They also loved the wall between the fun and teaching pools embedded water jets running on full blast - that I tried out too ( )! The main pool was cold. There was a therapy pool banned to youngsters Excepting a few highlights the pool is best for people going for a swimming lesson or some serious laps. It’s not a centre designed for much general fun or water play. We normally go to outdoor pools so my views might be biased.

Positive experience: I use the gym floor. It’s always clean, I like the high ceiling, air conditioning is really good. The pool is also good, usually busy but mostly kids pool, not many people on adults pool. However The equipments are not the best, there are only two squat racks which is so annoying in busy hours, you must wait for ages! Sometimes the personal trainers occupy one for an entire hour, they don’t even use it all the time!! I can’t believe it, while other people are waiting to do their workouts! Also, There’s no abduction machine, Which is again so annoying, it’s a very useful and timesaver equipment. Bathroom are not clean usually, I see mold on the toilets. The floor in the locker room is too slippery, both my husband and myself had slipped there.

Fantastic experience: I used to go here years ago. Now its all done up, except for the pool area. Gym has great facilities but I am yet to try it.
