The Gungahlin Leisure Centre is a multi-activity regional community hub located in Gungahlin, ACT. The Centre is home to a 50m indoor swimming pool, learn to swim pool and toddler splash park, a state-of-the-art lifestyle gym, group fitness facilities, a cafe and more! With a range of programs from group fitness classes to swim lessons there is something to suit the whole community. Gungahlin Leisure Centre caters to all ages and abilities. Negative experience: Since the sale of the complex to Belgravia, things have gone downhill. The toilets and change areas are filthy, with stall doors hanging off their hinges, excrement smeared on the walls, and the smell!! I hesitated leaving this review as the instructors and life guards are second to none, but today the kids pool temperature has been reduced. My little ones both left their lessons with blue lips! If you’re thinking of taking up swimming lessons, perhaps head to a pool that isn’t owned by this shady business.

Negative experience: Bad customer services. They were.charging even after the cancellation. They agreed.to refund $185, but so far not received the amount in my account. No response to my phone calls or emails. Teenagers are running the club, not able to provide the assistance.

Negative experience: Swimming instructors are professional and friendly. However administration is hopeless. I recently wanted to cancel a swimming class membership. Called multiple times and the phone could not go through. Messages them online, was told someone will call back however they never call back. Went to the counter multiple times and got different answers every time. Submitted a cancellation request online following their process on 2 August. On 9 August, the reception confirmed cancellation. On 12 September the reception told me it is still pending. Why is it so hard to cancel a membership? Only join their swimming class if you have time to deal with the administration disaster. P.S They even charge for classes when a swimming class is on a public holiday and they don't run the class. This has happened 2 times in a year.

Negative experience: I was so disappointed last night with the Swimming services, Manager walks clueless and has no professionalism , I had been chasing them for my son's class for last 4 weeks , Manager always ends up the conversation by advising they will call you back but never calls and has no empathy that Parent is upset about the class for the child. In the middle of the conversation she walked stating I have a class to attend, the trainer was inhumane who asked my 5 year old child to step out of the pool when I was resolving the swimming lessons with the Manager. Pathetic management, lack of communication.

Negative experience: The showers and change areas are distingustingly filthy. Two locks are broken on two doors and shelving (ridiculous little narrow) have been knocked off and no lo ger exisit. Only two showers have them. Hook on door doesn't hold a bag. Very bad throughout. No power point to plug in a hair dryer. What more can I say except ZERO. Sinks are blocked with long black hair. And I mean blocked. Seriously won't go back there again. Place needs an overhaul. Use of some disinfectant wouldnt go astray either!!!

Negative experience: We have been customers for over 1.5 years; over this time, we have seen deterioration, especially in the last four months. Let me give you some examples: The changing rooms are not clean, we have asked three times to clean poo that was on a wall (disgusting that someone would do that, even worse that the centre does not clean it after three notices). See picture below. There are various parts where they have let go of the place, like bathrooms, where things are broken, dirty, toilets do not have toilet paper and neither a roll holder! See other pictures. In terms of the actual service, the staff on the floor are good. The problem is the management, as they lack professionalism. For example, it’s so hard to change the time of a class. The staff says that they need to check with management and then suggest calling later. A phone line is a default number that does not go to the actual centre, and they further delay the process. Completely amateur service. We hope they improve over the coming week or we will move elsewhere.

Positive experience: Pool is good with exception of the changing the length of the lap pool all the time. At times there will be several people sharing lanes of lap pool, but staff will not address the two elderly gents who take up a whole lane every morning just talking. Why they aren’t encouraged to utilise the other pool is perplexing. The shower / toilet need refreshing and given a good clean. There’s been dried snot on the wall near one of their staff doors / lockers for months. Cleaning in general can improve. Front desk staff are always super friendly and helpful. Staff took 5 days to refill soap dispenser in a showers. Some will sit for a couple days with empty soap dispensers. Overall it’s pretty ok - they just need to spend money on a refresh and cleaning.

Fantastic experience: We change pools for our sons swimming from belconnen to here. And omg this pool is so much better. It is hands done best swimming lessons with the staff just amazing. The kids also get proper award medals as they advance and the quality of the pool center is amazing. Best pool for young kids

Negative experience: Great modern pool and facilities, but the 50m pool is rarely available at 50m. It seems convenience over customer satisfaction matters. What's the point of having a 50m pool is it's nearly always subdivided. Sadly this is now true of a lot of suburban pools.

Negative experience: Ridiculous ever since they changed management. The manegers are ridiculous no wonder the management is disgusting. Service is poor as, waste of time talking to them, have no respect for customers especially when they’re at fault.

Negative experience: Since changing hands from YMCA to Belgravia, the service here is garbage. All phone calls go to a call centre who can't help you with payments, change classes or anything useful to do with the swim school so you are forced to go into the centre for any help. The swim instructors are great but everything else sucks.

Negative experience: If you apply for membership, they will be very happy to assist you and the membership will start immediately. But if you want to cancel it, I'm very sorry, you can't do it on the APP where you can join as a member. You need to send an email to the designated email address, and it will take up to four weeks to process. During these four weeks, fees will still be forcibly deducted. And if you are a beginner swimmer, it is not recommended because too many swimming lessons occupy the lanes.

Negative experience: Since Belgravia took over the management of the Gungahlin Leisure Centre, including Fitness Memberships, there have been some changes to the cancellation/suspensions policies of these memberships. There are also some sections of the previous cancellation suspension policies that are now being more strictly enforced. As I was planning a 3 month trip away in our caravan, I discussed my options with the reception staff at Gungahlin Leisure Centre. Although it was very disappointing I was left with no option but to cancel my membership. The staff informed me that to do this, I would need to give 30 days notice and it needed to be done in writing and sent to an email address that they gave me. Approximately 6 weeks before our planned departure date, I emailed them and requested my membership be cancelled on a defined date. I also asked that they notify me that this had been done. After a week and a half, I had heard nothing so rang. I was informed that they couldn’t find the email but that it would be done that day and I would be notified. I still heard nothing back. So, I rang the next day (I was becoming concerned because it was now only about 32-33 days before I needed the cancellation to be effective). I spoke to someone who identified herself as the manager. She told me that my membership cancellation was pending and the cancellation would be effective the next week. I explained that this was not what I asked for, that the date I had requested was still a month away and that I wanted to come to classes for the next month. To say that she was disinterested was an understatement. She kept telling me the cancellation would be effective the next week. In the end, I gave up discussing it with her because she was determined to cancel my membership the following week. When I got off the phone, I was really upset. I could not and still (2 weeks later) cannot understand how my membership could mean so little to them that they would cancel it a month earlier than I had requested. When I first decided that I would have to cancel my membership, I fully intended to rejoin when I returned from our caravan trip. However, given that Belgravia has made it very clear that they do not want me as a member, I will be taking my business elsewhere.

Negative experience: Great for experience with multiple swimming lessons at the same time with three children. So much quicker with the scan in fob check in system too. Revising my review down from 5 stars to 2, primarily due to the ever changing staff in swimming lessons for children, there is absolutely no continuity which is a challenge for one of our children.

Negative experience: After changing management from end of 2023, quality of service has degraded. Each week having a new instructor for my kid causing no learning or improvement. Looks they are unable retain teachers. After several complaints no improvement.. there are other minor concerns as well.

Negative experience: Useless management (Belgravia leisure )!!! I have been trying to reach out to their management numerous times for last 2 months. Front desk staff always say management will call us but to date I haven't been contacted. On 8/1/2024, I went in to book my kids to the same spots as they were booked last year. The frontdesk boy wrongly booked a different timeslot to my kids despite I told him day of the week, time and teachers names my kids were getting lessons. My mistake was I didn't checked the bookings until 15th Jan when the classes week actually started. Since then I have been trying to reach out to the management just to make sure when there is availability I should get the priority spot for my kids as it was centre's mistake, but all in vain. I have now no other option but to leave this review. Totally disappointed now. For the swimming teachers, they are all awesome and give 100%. thanks to them for their efforts. Missing YMCA management.

Positive experience: Friendly staff, great facilities and classes - ordinarily I would rate the centre higher. Sadly my car was hit early this morning, while parked between 5:26am and 6:10am, resulting in significant damage. Whilst the two staff members on the desk (Nick and a young lady) were very caring and concerned, the manager on duty around 10am, couldn't be bothered coming out of her office, to speak to me or help me. The CTV camera, apparently, only shows the main door entry, not carpark. Very disappointed in level of managerial customer care and the safety of our vehicles and people in car park, due to no visual monitoring and recording. Edit - that ended up being an $800 workout.

Negative experience: We really really like this venue and the pools are really nice. The staff are friendly, but it seems like they could never be certain about the things you require unless it’s simple check in and out. Many times you ask two different people working there. You get two different answers. I would say better train them before putting them out at the front desk.

Negative experience: Not as good as it looks online, only area for primary aged kids is one lousy lane on the larger pool. Splash play is only for 5 years and under. Which was not working for some time. It needs to be fixed too, not all working properly. Staff were rude upon arrival and life guards seem to hate their lives, more gossip than work. (For over an hour) If I didn’t drive an hour and a half from my small rural town just for my kids to enjoy these pools, I would have left immediately after my first interaction with staff. There’s no cafe hours listed on the site which would be incredibly helpful. They aren’t open the whole time we had been there. Also, the fact myself and my elderly relative had to pay entry when we aren’t swimming is a joke. I won’t be coming back. There is not enough bins, none near the seated area. Their bathrooms and change rooms are revolting, soap dispensers in both the showers and at the sinks not working.

Positive experience: Pool itself is good. They do cut the 50m lane down to 25m whenever im there. The toilets are the biggest issue. They smell worse than some of the public bathrooms I’ve been in. The shower stalls are partially broken and don’t look like they have been cleaned regularly.

Negative experience: Horrible experience with new management, no website working, no email working, cannot book makeup classes, cannot get refund for makeup classes and no makeup classes carry forward to new management and new management don't know anything, useless staff working there, they don't know when the Christmas shutdown period is, is there any other swimming centre here!

Fantastic experience: YMCA run this centre well. Been using this centre for about 5 months. Change rooms are always clean. Gym is small but we'll equipped, and I rarely have to wait for a machine. Pool water is always crystal clear, and there are separate pools for kids, adults and lap swimmers . Lifeguards are attentive, and when standing together are always back to back to watch their assigned pool.

Fantastic experience: Lovely staffs! Some are rude, but I might have caught them on their bad day. 50m pool is their highlight. However, need to check their fortnightly/weekly pool schedule. Not all lanes are available at all times. If my current gym didn’t have a dodgy membership contract, I would take the pool membership in a heartbeat. Currently sticking to 3 days a week and waiting for my gym membership to expire. Also, if you are planning on slow recreational swimming opt for the 25m pool. Those complaining about heating on the 50m indoor pool needs to realise that its an olympic size pool, takes a lot to heat up and people are usually swimming at a good pace. Ain’t nobody tryina get a heat stroke. However, staffs really need to get their mojo on and tell people off with poor shared lane etiquettes. If you are swimming on the right don’t switch to left for the second lap it’s annoying. You don’t need to know how to flip turn to stick to your side.

Negative experience: Nice instructors , but showers and toilets are very dirty and need more maintenance. It’s not feasible to have one family room for such a huge facility. It’s a shame for a centre belongs to YMCA and have such a horrible facilities especially after spending millions on the main pool. Management need to consider frequent cleaning and maintenance otherwise it might end up with a health risk issue .

Negative experience: Be aware that it costs $8.30 to watch your child play water polo at this venue. A water polo match is 20 minutes. This cost is not disclosed on the website. This centre is run by an organisation that purports to run services for children yet it chooses to render kids sports prohibitively expensive.

Fantastic experience: We love spending time in the pool, as those of you with kids would know, they can't get enough. Great facilities with showers and an olympic size pool. An all in one including a gym as well, weekly visits for us.

Negative experience: Absolutely disgusting, the floors, showers, bathrooms and change rooms are the worst I have ever seen. It always smells like urination, and I feel the centre is not properly taken care of by the managers. I have spoken to several lifeguards, swim teachers, and front desk people and they all seem like they hate working there. On the plus side the cafe has great food I definitely won’t be coming back here again. It is just so poorly managed it’s not even the workers faults. It’s all on the manages.

Fantastic experience: I would highly recommend the Leisure Centre! The gym facilities are clean and well ventilated. The gym space isn't huge compared to some larger gyms but it has every piece of equipment you need. The best part is that unlike some of the larger main stream gyms in the area, the gym space was never overly packed which can certainly be intimidating to some especially starting on your health & fitness journey. It's great to see young teens being guided around the space and some older mature people also working out (sometimes on their own or in groups). Speaks volumes about the centre being a safe space for the whole community to better their health and well being. We have also made use of the swim facilities which the kids love. Especially the heated kids pool that starts shallow and slowly gets deeper, my 1 & 4 yr old love being able to go as deep as they like and splash around at the depth they are comfortable at. The staff manning the desk are always friendly and helpful! Thanks Leisure Centre for the overall great service!

Negative experience: Swimming coaches are good but the rest of the staff, including lifeguards and the centre manager are quite rude and entitled, not very helpful to customers at all. We have been going for 2 years since it's the nearest swimming pool to our house and unfortunately we have had several instances where the staff simply don't listen to people, They just make you feel like they are doing you a favour. Unfortunately the Y manages most of the leisure centres in the ACT so customers are kind of hostage and left without choice. One instance I had a lifeguard tell me that I am not responsible looking after my children. She yelled at me in front of my children and other customers. I was speechless, couldn't believe what I was hearing. To have a complete stranger judge me as a mother, that's just unacceptable no matter the circumstances. It goes without saying my children are well looked after, safe and sound. Anyways, simply awful experiences here. Even my 5 year old has asked to me: mum, why are they so mean?

Fantastic experience: Always a enjoyable swim at the Gungahlin leisure centre, a bit quite and calm to swim weekday during winter. Heated pool is nice, the small children’s splash pool is heated but the children’s splash area is not heated (but required a button push to turn the cycle on, also equipped with an emergency stop button). New addition of two blue large picnic tables inside the pool area next to the glass wall at the entry to the pool past the cafe. Positive experience: Pool was great. Change rooms could do with some upgrading. More hooks to hang clothing, towel etc up off the floor while taking a shower.

Negative experience: Barely have any space for public swimming. The big pool is taking forever to fix. And worst of all they still want people to pay the same price for their membership when there is practically no lane open for members most of the time.

Thanks so much for your positive review Jack! Although swim schools are an important part of our offer, our policy is to leave at least 100m available for public lap swimming at all times (2 lanes when the pool is set at 50m, 4 lanes when 25m). We hope to have you back soon!

Negative experience: Husband cancelled his membership months ago but the fortnightly payments keeps getting taken out Months later. Have rung to sort it out twice. Still no change. Reported to ACCC and got an email from YMCA that they will cancel the membership and payments. Months later and we are still getting billed!!!! So we have now just blocked them with our bank.

Fantastic experience: Kudos to the young man on duty at the reception today ( 3/08/2022) at around 3pm , his name is Luke . I had to suspend my membership for about a month due to health reasons and Luke was absolutely polite , helpful and understanding getting it done for me immediately. He had a most pleasant disposition all along , something that many young people lack nowadays. Keep it up and well done

Fantastic experience: Great leisure centre, located in Gungahlin, close to all shops. 50m pool with wading pool for the younger kids. Has a small Water Splash area. There is a great grassed outdoor area which is great in the warmer weather, and an area for Kids Birthday parties. There is also an inflatable water park there on occasions. The gymnasium is small but has all the equipment for a full workout. There is also a Cafe for that caffeine fix. Overall its a great place for all the family

Negative experience: Extremely frustrated with the staff on phone after being with them For 1.5 hour to change the Swim lesson time. Called in the morning and lady said my preferred slot is available but she won't be able to book me in because I don't have a mobile app. She said she will transfer me to Gungahlin centre and then disconnected. Called again Lady said the slot is available but she can't book me in and have noted down for the gumgahlin staff and I will receive a call back. Meanwhile she will reserve the spot for us. Called at 4:30 pm with a fear that I might lose the spot, Called and Lady said it's no more available. Such a disgusting service provided for being with them since last 4 years. They do not value customers time and effort A Frustrated Customer

Fantastic experience: Exercise and leisure pool, toddler pool and water splash area are open. Clean shower/toilet facilities. My daughter enjoyed her 7th birthday party there recently. Friendly staff. Hopefully 50m pool will reopen next year.

Negative experience: Used to be good pool but very poor service now, big pool still closed but price did not change, have to pay extra if parent need to go inside to wait for their kid even they don’t swim ($2.50 per person just to get inside) wth. Better go to belconnen swimming ( bigger, better service, more fun for kids)

Negative experience: Very unfriendly front desk, very rude. Large pool is still closed. Extremely frustrating. I really didn’t like the expression of an instructor when my daughter got in to the class, she said “Oh my gosh! We all are here today” I was surprised do they expect we pay regularly with direct debit and don’t turn up!

Positive experience: Went there the first time today with my little boy. As I didn’t know about the booking procedure I was pleasantly surprised by the guy at the front desk that he made an exception as it was not at capacity and let us in. The facilities were ok with family change rooms etc. and the water was pretty warm so just right for going there with little kids. In terms of crowds I think it’s important that you come as early as possible as it gets busy quickly and with the 50m lap pool closed I believe the crowds will be crazy on a rainy day.

Negative experience: Very poor customer service and no information was provided for booking as the bigger pool is shut. We went to book for a general swim but was advised to do it via website. We booked in for 7am session and paid for it. As we went for the swim session we were refused as they said pool is fully booked for swimming classes until 1pm after entering into the pool area, the staff at the front desk didn’t even mention about it while checking in. We went back to the front desk to check whether we can swim or not. They said they can’t refund but can change the dates also adding to this they said this is happening from a long time. What does that mean to me? We went a day before for the information of booking in for general swim session and no one mentioned about these changes, we were told to do it online that’s it. This is soo frustrating as they can’t except people to know about their changes without providing the correct information. The staff at the front desk had no accountability neither a good customer service she was like oh I don’t know what other staff have told you or what they said to us. We were like are you freaking kidding me that’s your staff and you guys don’t have a communication in between about these information. This means that every staff has different information and can’t rely on one’s information. The staff is like we can’t refund I can just change the dates. She was not sorry about it at all. Very unprofessional. They either need to train their staff with correct information or need to provide information on their website while booking. They only want money and no customer satisfaction by charging us full money. I would have given 0 star if google let’s me too they don’t even deserve a single star with their service. They definitely need to improve their service and provide correct information.

Negative experience: Very disappointing, after resuming classes after COVID shutdown and and a different teacher every week, we finally had a teacher who advised they were not qualified. Classes don't have structure ( change depending on day/ teacher and its almost always an introductory lesson )and class sizes are too big-8 parents and 8 toddlers we were shoulder to shoulder on the wall. I would not recommend, its better value to pay entry and teach the kids yourself.

Negative experience: Very disappointing, swimming classes are a joke (for kids) cannot organise anything at that place. Re booking a spot for your child when goes up in a class to find out. You have to rearrange all kids to fit in the one time slot. And experienced other times with scheduling over 6 months of being there 3 kids enough was enough change rooms were consistently wet. Life guards more worried about playing with there hair and putting in a ponytail . Than keeping a eye on what they are paid to do. Never going back again!!!!!

Fantastic experience: Excellent centre, very clean amenities. If you are on a DSP payment you can get in for free. Best time to go is in the afternoon around 2:30pm

Fantastic experience: My son and I are looking forward to return to training and lessons here. We love and enjoy the experience. 10/10 rating for the staff, . 10/10 rating for opening hours.Unfortunately the state of the facility is a 3/10. I know this is not the fault of the staff. They're fantastic. Let's put the blame where it belongs: The piglets who don't clean up after themselves when they use public facilities and the clowns that previously damaged the 50m pool earlier in the year! Futhermore, due to the Covid situation, can the senior management kindly engage the services of pool tilers outside of Victoria to fix the 50m pool ASAP. Let's get that 50m pool fixed so I can start losing those Covid Kilos!
